So let’s talk about Midnights. . . . by Taylor Swift if you’ve been under a rock for 48h.
I understand a lot of people love it and that’s great, I’m happy for you. I truly am.
Here’s to all the rest of us Swifties that don’t entirely vibe with this one that much.
Firstly to anyone that will hate on me saying that i came along Folklore/ Evermore era and thought that those were the vibes. I’ve been here since Red. And 1989 & Rep are some of my fav albums. So don’t @ me
I am however a synth (for Taylor) hater. And here’s why.
Taylor is known for her gut wrenching lyrical masterpieces and no matter how many styles of music she changes, that is the factor that will always remain as a constant . That’s her trademark. And i love it. She paints these complex pictures and worlds with so little words that you never imagined possible before.
Synth sound on the other hand *to me* is more party/ rave/ getting lost in sound; made for the sake of the sound with not *as* complex lyric focused intent. Some of the biggest synth-pop songs are
Bulletproof by La Roux
Sweet Dreams are made of this by Eurythmics
Lights by Ellie Golding
Dancing on my own by Robyn
and so on. They are not bad songs. They’re some of the best there are!! But personally i don’t feel like Taylor’s style of song writing fits in the synth world that is so focused on parties and raves and disappearing in the sound of the song rather than finding yourself in its lyrics. I do like some of the songs like Anti-Hero or Paris but the majority feel so overly edited that her voice gets lost and it doesn’t even sound like her anymore and it just makes me sad :/
So I am hoping that there will be some acoustic covers of the rest or at least some. Because i love the lyrics in them so much but especially on some songs the over synthesised editing entirely just takes me out of the enjoyment. It feels like those animation moments where you’re daydreaming and suddenly the dream cracks like glass and shatters all around you and you’re left there in the real life situation you were trying to fantasises out of.
So to all of us Swifties that love Taylor but not the Midnights sound. Here’s hoping. And to the rest that enjoy the sound, I’m happy for you and I hope you have the best time with it ^^
P.S.: I am mad about Snow on the Beach and the fact that you can’t even hear LDR. Like wtf happened there okay?! That is all.

25 lessons that I learnt at 24 (+5 more)
I’m not here to tell you to love yourself. It’s cliche, obvious and overstated, and I definitely did not fully accomplish it.
So let’s share some real lessons:
Don’t be a hater, read the whole post
Stop caring about what other people think
Pizza is not a food group or a substitute for therapy
The scale is not malfunctioning- you’ve gained weight
5 years from now, all the people who said this wouldn’t matter will be wrong
Jesus did not die on the cross for you to let people treat you like a doormat
Stop walking a mile in other people’s shoes. Now you’re tired and your feet hurt, and you have no energy left to walk in your own
Wear the damn crop top
Going to the cinema alone is so underrated. I’m sorry for all the people I pitied, y’all were on to something.
LDR are not for needy people. Or insecure people. Or people who will miss their bf every other minute.
Everyone doesn’t have to be your friend. Happy acquaintances are okay. Cordial flatmates are fine too.
No amount of positive wall quotes can substitute for picking up the garbage on your floor
Don’t trust the consultant. Don’t do it. Be professional, but everyone is not your friend. Stop being so naive.
Stop following her on Instagram
“Jesus be a fence” is a mood, a vibe, and the phrase of the year. Because I needed complete protection from all the nonsense that happened during this year
Do not steal scrub shoes and hide them and adopt them and put your name on them and then lose them.
People steal stethoscopes. Wth
Real friendships are not confined to space or time. - It’s easier for them anyway, I’m the one up at 4AM when they’re watching tv at 11PM -
Don’t be lazy. Uber will swallow your money. But comfort is key, so just budget for it.
Your data never runs out, get the smaller package (thanks giffgaff)
Find a man. Get a man. You’ll need someone to hold your purse at 85.
They’re popular, they’re inspirational, don’t get caught in the tide, their words are also rubbish. Don’t be gullible.
Don’t get so “woke” that you become an insomniac. Ignorance can be genuine bliss
Your heart has been pumping for 2 and a half decades. It’s withstood idiots and assholes . It can withstand mild hypertension. I still eat too many crisps🤷🏽‍♀️
Frozen food is safe food. Don’t eat at a British carvery.
BONUS 5!!
Pray before you tell your parents that you squandered their money by deciding not to do STEP 1
Tell the truth. But everyone doesn’t require every single detail.
Morning playlists are best curated several times a month. You don’t want to wake up annoyed and stay annoyed when it’s your 24th time hearing “Bodak Yellow”
Pay attention to your money while it disappears. It’s still going to disappear but at least you can feel like you’re part of the experience.
Ignore the haters. Take the panadol. You don’t have time for extra pain when you need to study. If your liver can deal with tequila and vodka, it can handle ibuprofen.
Mic Drop!
