oh hey btw mark z. danielewski the author of house of leaves is coming to my school in a week or two and we get to ask him questions so like if you have any questions for him let me know and i'll try to convey them to him for you like a spirit medium

going to bother you about the Rytleo BUT who between them initiates kisses more often and what does affection between them usually look like.

Would you believe me if I said Rytlock.

I see Rytlock to be a man of action that struggles with conveying feeling/emotion verbally, even in more personal relationships. And between the two of them has always been the more physically affectionate one, specifically in private. Rytlock so extremely loyal to the people he cares about and has a softer side he just doesn't publicly show because its reserved for very specific dynamics.

Meanwhile Leo had never experienced a long term relationship and even made it a point to avoid them, so I think physical romantic intimacy was outside of his wheelhouse, and Rytlock was fine initiating that sort of contact. It makes me feel insane knowing that despite their history of being intimate for 6 Years before they officially get together they never actually kissed, Leo is the one to kiss him first. It's a big moment for the two of them that cements them officially entering a long-term a relationship with each other.

(I have Thoughts on the implications of legion charr deciding to choose mates in a society where its very uncommon. But that gets a little off topic.)

Anyway!

In terms of like, "Love Languages"/ how affection looks for them, I see Rytlock as prioritizing Physical Touch and Acts of service. He respects Leo deeply, and there has always been a bit of gentleness thats granted to him, I also think between the two of them hes able to shed a certain demeanor of expectation, so I think doing small things like sharpening his sword for him, having their armor prepared for the next day, bringing a meal back for him. In physical touch this is more generalized but I think they have a little night ritual where Rytlock will usually groom him bc it makes Leo go to sleep easier <- gripping my chair abt this. Rytlock being the big spoon is a privilege Leo gives him and only him. This also sorta changes in HoT/Ls3 Leo is often the one caring a bit more for Rytlock as he adjusts to being a revenant with Leo doing his best to help him where he can.

I see Leo leaning towards "Quality time' and "acts of service/words of affirmation"

Leo is the one to pull them both out of the constant whirlwind of events to take a break or at the very least taking a mission thats just the two of them. Rytlock tends to tunnel vision and bulldoze ahead on things that he kinda needs Leo to grab him by the ear sometimes and break that for a bit. Smthn smthn Leo is 80% of his impulse control. And doing small things for the other extends to Leo as well. Leo is also the more verbally affectionate/playful of the two of them and is more willing to initiate physical affection "publicly " as long as theyre away from the Citadel or yknow things that would require them to be more professional ofc. Theres a moment later in the story I can pinpoint where Leo does something that very clearly shows theyre together and half the group is like HUH and the other half is looking at them like ermmmm yeah thats been a thing for years (it hasnt. Kinda.)

I will say I think the thing I imagine them doing the most is the big cat head/neck rubs, its just such an endearing cat behavior and sooo sweet to me.

my other idea suggestion would be angst. She and Joe grew up together as children, they became sweethearts, but when Joe transferred to LSU, he decided to break up with her because the relationship would get in the way of their careers, he as a player and she as a chef. She was devastated by the breakup, made the drastic decision to move country and deleted all social media so she would no longer have contact with anyone. She moved to Italy, where she specialized in cooking and quickly became one of the best chefs in the world. world, she opened restaurants in several countries and would finally open branches in her country, and the first city would be Athens, Ohio. Joe went to the opening with his parents and teammates, he had no idea that she was the owner of the restaurant. When she meets her again, he is distraught, and is even more devastated when he discovers that she is married to an Italian billionaire and has had two children. In those years, Joe regretted it and never got over the breakup, he had quick affairs and romances, he tried to replace her in his heart and failed, but now she realizes that she lost her true love.

I’m going to answer to this one since I do love the idea to this more! I do love the idea of them being together and then breaking up so I will definitely take that idea but I will probably change some things if that’s okay but thank you so much for sending in this idea!!!

Why is Jinn only allowed to answer 3 questions every century? She's based on genies, so shouldn't it be 3 answers per person?

It'd be way better for dramatic stakes and give incredibly interesting insight for the characters. Imagine Ruby asking about Summer or Yang demanding to know why Raven abandoned them. Or Blake wondering if there was a way to convince Adam that peace with humans is possible. Weiss asking how she can take the company back from her father and make things better

There's so much potential with a relic of knowledge but, ironically, no one knows how to use it. Yeehaw I guess

did anyone else ever find it odd how easily zeus offered percy godhood? and how it almost seemed like he secretly wanted percy to accept? well i did, and after thinking long and hard about it…

i don’t think percy understood what turning down godhood really meant

demigods do tasks for the gods because they don’t have to follow any rules. they aren’t controlled by anyone or anything. demigods are a strange hybrid - not god, not human. they are in between the laws of immortal and mortal. they are not supposed to exist. yet they do, which is what makes them so extraordinary.

percy is crazy powerful. of course, there’s the aspect of raw power. he has domain over air (storms/hurricanes), land (earthquakes and volcanic eruptions), and sea (monster waves, tsunamis, floods, basically anything that involves water.) he can control bodily fluids. he has super strength (with one hand, he held up an unconscious annabeth who was being pulled down by both arachne AND the forces of tartarus). he has super speed (he moves faster than bullets in TTC). no matter how badly you hurt him, he automatically heals and regenerates the second he touches water (an ability no other demigod has). he’s an extraordinary swordsman. very skilled in combat and warfare. he��s smart, and thinks of plans quickly. but he also has a great deal of social/poltcial power… i mean, he’s a leader and hero to both the greek and roman camps. if he says “attack,” all demigods, greek or roman, attack. no question. do you have any idea how threatening that is to the olympians? he’s also best friends and has an empathy link with the lord of the wild, which basically means all of nature is by his side too, including all land creatures. he’s also prince of horses, which means pegasi too (both of which are extremely useful in battle). and of course all sea creatures, including the mythical ones like krakens and leviathans. not to mention many of the gods really like him. hermes, hephaestus, athena, aphrodite, and dionysis have all gone out of their way to help him. artemis holds him in high regard, especially since he saved her. apollo literally considers him his friend! and poseidon - his dad, the god who is the biggest threat to zeus - is fiercely protective of him and cares about him a great deal. many minor gods also like him because he demanded them to be given more respect and for their kids to be welcomed at the camps.

percy unknowingly has more power, both physical and social/political, than anyone should ever have. he may have absolutely no idea, but it must scare the living daylights out of zeus. by accepting zeus’s offer to become a god, percy would have submitted himself to the control of zeus. zeus would be his king and ruler. zeus would then have complete control over him.

but percy said no. therefore, percy remains out of zeus’s control.

percy had no idea what he was doing. but thank the gods he made that choice. thank the gods he’s an incredible person. thank the gods percy jackson has no desire for power, because he has more of it than anyone should ever be able to have.
