Sometimes I feel like people are allergic to any sort of nuance and complexity when it comes to the characters. They either see them as completely evil, without any nuance whatsoever, and every single action from them as evil and bad as if everything is always so black and white and people are only one way, or then they see them as these perfect people who never do any wrong and try to explain away their faults and mistakes and shortcomings.
I am not saying you cannot dislike characters or that These or Those actions are redeemable, that doing a few things makes a person good etc. but the lack of nuance is frustrating me. I think it makes the characters much less interesting and less compelling to only reduce them to "completely evil person who never did anything good" or "perfect person who never did anything wrong". I've just seen a lot of oversimplification of these very nuanced, conplex characters.
People either go "yes, this character acted in a questionable way, but none of it was bad bc This and That, they did NOTHING wrong!!" or "omg they never did anything good and every action of theirs was an evil one". Like... You are allowed to have things be complicated, you are allowed to see the complexities It makes the characters interesting!!
