Hello Brenana!! ( am new to cosplay and a friend recommended you to me for cosplay stuff :D (btw your cosplays for marinettte and adrien are super cool, I love them 💖) Do you have any recommendations for where you can get colored contacts??
Ahh thank you, you and your friend are so kind! ❤ ❤ ❤ And that’s awesome that you’re starting to cosplay, I hope you have a really fun time with it!
I don’t really cosplay anymore so I’m not particularly up-to-date on where people are getting contacts now, but I can still give you some recommendations from when I was more active!
(Just a little disclaimer that you should get your eyes checked by a professional before wearing colored contacts. Not everyone’s eyes can safely wear contacts and if you do end up wearing colored contacts, it’s important you get your proper prescription so you don’t hurt your eyes.)
There are a ton of different places to order contacts from, here are some of the ones that I’d been using (but there are lots of others out there):
HoneyColor (they have lots of specialty contacts and also sell contacts specific for people with astigmatism which is neat although more expensive than their non-astigmatism lenses)
Lens Village (a few years ago they got some really horrible reviews but then bounced back so if you ask a cosplayer who used them in like 2017 vs 2019 you’ll get wildly different opinions on them)
candylens (they have a “shows up on dark eyes” filter for shopping that I really appreciated. They have specialty lenses and lenses that glow under UV light which is cool)
ohmykitty4u (they have sclera contacts and specialty Halloween costume lenses and also lenses that glow under UV light which is, again, cool)
colouredcontacts (unfortunately if you have a prescription that’s different in each eye you have to buy two sets of contacts which is frustrating :/ so I didn’t buy from here but I’ve heard good things from my peers who have symmetrical eye prescriptions)
Important to note: All of the websites above are third party sellers so how good a set of colored contacts is varies widely and is highly dependent on the specific brand and set of lenses you’re buying. It’s so important to find reviews of the specific contact lenses you’re getting, finding reviews of the company as a whole isn’t going to be super helpful outside of how good their customer service is and what their shipping times are like. It also helps if you can find a customer photo of someone with your eye color wearing those specific lenses (I have really dark brown eyes so photos of lenses that show up well on someone with, for example, light blue eyes don’t mean much to me)
If you’re looking for really natural colored contacts, there are expensive options like Solótica, lens.me (seller of the Solótica brand among others), and Desio. I’ve never used them but they’re definitely the best looking and generally seen as safer and more comfortable. There are also brands like Air Optix Colors, FreshLook ColorBlends, and Dailies Colors which are a lot more subtle (they don’t really show up on my eyes) but are medical quality contacts that are trusted by most optometrists.
Personally, I would stay away from ttdeye and uniqso since they’ve done some pretty racist things in the past and I just don’t want to support them financially when there are so many other options out there, but you’ll find a lot of cosplayers still recommend them.
Sorry for how long this got, I hope it was at least a bit helpful!
