i'm serious about this.
both hinata and naruto are, by circumstances entirely out of their control, part of the system imprisoning neji and kurama. both hinata and naruto struggle to understand neji and kurama's feelings about their situation bc the hyuuga clan bs and the concept of jinchuuriki is treated as normal by everyone around them. both hinata and naruto want neji and kurama to be less nasty to them but neither of them (bc they are twelve-year-old children) really gets that there's a much larger problem than one individual's temper problems.
both neji and kurama lash out at hinata and naruto, who don't deserve it bc there's not much either of them can do but who are also the only safe targets/only target at all for that anger. hinata and naruto's mere existences are actively harming neji and kurama, but there's not really anything any of them can do about that.
i guess what i'm saying is that the reveal that kurama a) had never once initiated an attack on konoha of his own free will (something that both hashirama and minato were fully aware of), and b) was fully sentient with as many thoughts and feelings as anyone else, should've both caused a much greater impact on the other characters, especially neji.
i would've loved to see neji relating to kurama. i would have loved to see someone acknowledge how fucked up both their situations are. i would have loved to have a moment where we learn that kurama related to neji as well - maybe have him mention it was fucked up that his chakra was used for naruto to beat someone in the same position as him.
the branch family and the bijuu deserved their freedom
honestly naru//hina could've worked if a) kishimoto cared about hinata's character at all, and b) if the similarities between naruto's relationship with kurama and hinata's with neji had ever been explored even a little bit
