Cutie Reviews: Doki Doki Sept 18
Hi guys, here’s the (possibly) long-awaited Doki Doki September review that I probably should have done earlier this past week or two... or three. It kind of got put off, plus I got a new game and a new book I was excited about, and there was a hospital-related incident and some back pains...
Anyway I don’t have much else to say right now so we’ll just get right into it!
This months theme: First Day of School
As the weather gets cooler and we return from our summer vacations, we have to get back into the swing of things. This month’s theme is “Shin-gakki” or First Day of School. This crate is full of items to make school, or the workplace for those out of school, cute and fun!
For this month the Suteki Crate focuses on several practical Sanrio based character goods, namely My Melody, Sumikko Gurashi, and Jinbesan. I approve!
(As usual I forgot the picture until I started writing this.)
I love the adorable pen pouch and memo pen, what about you guys? :3
(Also as a side note, in the comic for the month we’re introduced to a new boy character, Hibiki Shinosuke, who finds out first-hand why Tomomi is avoided in class. He’s really funny, so I hope we see more of him~)
Sumikko Gurashi Pen Case
Our first item is this slim and adorably designed pen/pencil/other small stationery item case. It features the Sumikko Gurashi trying various school clubs, besides the tennis one I got there is also soccer, volleyball, soft ball, music, and basketball.
Besides the music one, I’m pretty happy I got this one because I like tennis. But they all would have been really cute, so I wouldn't have been disappointed either way.
These are also double sided, providing 100% cuteness on both sides!
It’s also made to be discrete while safely snuggling the inner-contents; which means you could probably also use this on a daily basis if you didn’t attend school anymore or was going out for the day. They are on the small side so there are a handful of items that probably won’t fit, but there is also a variety of items that will.
I pretty much use it and the one I got last year (or maybe the year before?) to hold all the pens and pencils I get from these boxes!
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I really like these x3 not only are they cute, but they are functional, well-made, and I like how they’re sleek and slim with a very smooth cloth fabric, rather than bulky and hard, which were the types of cases I had growing up when I attended school.
They were plastic which made them hard and fragile, and they got dirty fairly easy (but to be fair that was sometimes my fault), but I usually made them last until the school year ended. They came in handy due to their bigger size (I could fit some of everything school related in one) and I always had tons of coloring options, and I always found a pink one to buy each year... but I’m pretty sure my middle school self would have preferred these.
Jinbesan Folder
(Sorry the pics are kind of wonky, that’s what happens to a folder that’s been bent for a long period of time.)
Our next item is this large, colorful Jinbesan folder- which is pretty vital for pretty much everyone, no matter the grade. I know I had multiple each year, one for each subject like any other person.
There was a few different designs this was available in, and this one is also double-sided:
(Keep in mind it’s a lot brighter in person than in this picture)
Again, I’m pretty sure I would have loved to use these when I was younger; not that I don’t now though :P but I do have papers I can use it for now so it’s not like it’s going to go to waste... I just need to fix it’s bendiness first.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
This folder material is like a very sleek plastic (maybe vinyl? I don’t really know terms for these things >3<), so I like knowing that if it gets dirty then in theory it should be an easy clean. Prior to me opening the box it was already bent, but staying in the box so long didn’t help it, but that’s my own fault and I’m sure with enough weight I can flatten it again. At least this material can’t tear like paper folders.
Aggretsuko Plush Charm
Who doesn’t love Retsuko? She’s become extremely popular as of late, and as the booklet points out, it’s can be really easy to relate to her sometimes when dealing with school and work (it also helps if you like metal, I enjoy it a bit myself).
This is a plush charm that was available in either form, the cutesy work Retsuko and the released death metal one. I hope I don’t get hate over this, but I actually prefer her normal cutesy appearance; but I can still be appreciative over this one too.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
It’s very soft and squishy, I’m really impressed that as small as this charm is (It’s smaller than most mug in terms of height) it has a lot of perfectly stitched quality. There’s no quality issues, even the little hair tufts on the ears feel soft and silky. The ball chain is also pretty nice too.
My Melody Onigiri Maker
Whether you make your own lunch or someone else does it, or if you just want a snack, it’s nice to have a cutesy element in some shape or form to make it feel all the more special~
This comes in 4 pieces to make the perfect My Melody onigiri (rice ball), as well as drawn and written details to help make it on the packaging; although it isn’t that hard to figure out just looking at it either.
Now as much as I love rice and try to test out food-based gadgets we get, I wasn’t able to do that with this one. I didn’t have the “supplies” and with the hectic things going on, I wasn’t really doing much in the kitchen lately. But I have seen several youtube videos about items like this so I recommend going there if you want to see more.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Whether I tested this out or not, I wouldn’t have had very much to say about it. You’ve seen one rice shaper you’ve seen them all, and I have tested previous ones I got and haven’t had any problems (besides the broken one I got like two years ago that they were supposed to be replace and never did).
I love cutesy looking food, even if they can take a bit more time to make, but food always seems to taste better when it’s personally worked on; it also helps to make picky-eaters a tiny bit less-picky :P if you like eating rice and would like to try these out, you can find a variety of them on Amazon.
Amuse Pen
You can’t have a school themed box without a writing utensil of some type. So here we are, at our last item. An adorable pastel pen featuring the popular brand Amuse and it’s original characters.
It’s a bit hard to see here, but I got Alpacasso x3 which is the reason I like this brand, since I always had a soft spot for llama and alpaca- I like that they’re so popular now because I can enjoy them more frequently!
Anyway, each pen comes in it’s own themed color, with matching colored ink. It also has a wonderful and relaxing scent, it smells exactly like an eraser I got in a prior school themed box. But I still can’t identify the scent more than being a light sweet fruit with a hint of baby powder or cotton candy.
It smells really good, trust me.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The pen quality is good, a tiny bit spotty but I think that was my fault for writing on the box rather than paper. Again it’s scented, and it has pretty sky blue ink, so I’m not sure it would be test or signature necessary friendly, but it’d be perfect for everything else!
Oh, also it isn’t a gel pen or fine tip, like what I usually prefer. But you know, I still really like it :3 I don’t have too many colored ink pens (unless you buy a really expensive pen or multi-ink ones, all we normally have are black, red, dark blue, and sometimes dark green) so I get excited when I can add to my collection.
In fact I pretty much stopped buying pens and stationery items from here because I get so many from these boxes.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 5 out of 5. I’m a teeny-tiny bit bugged by the folder, but that can easily be fixed so I’m not going to blame the box on that. I wasn’t amazed by the items or anything, but I liked them and I love getting to add to my pens and kitchen gadgets. They’re perfect for the time of year they were released and are very practical, so I completely approve!
Quality/Price - 5 out of 5. I’ll admit on terms of price I’m not sure where the box stands this month. The quality was excellent with each and every item, and because of them all being licensed I know that would probably make them costly depending on location. The problem with that is that where I live (and I’m sure in several other states/towns) school products are very cheap when school starts, and even throughout the year. So as much as I prefer cute items to plain ones... I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to spend triple times the amount just for a couple of them when I could use the same money to buy a lot of basic items. But to be fair I don’t know the prices of these things, it’s entirely possible they aren’t as expensive as I think.
Theme: 5 out of 5. Like last months, it’s extremely obvious even without the book. Every September they do a school themed box, but I like the consistency and I’m sure the other subscribers appreciate it too.
Total Rank: 15 out of 15 Cuties. When I first started this I wasn’t too sure how I felt about this box, it kind of gave me vibes from the previous one, where I enjoyed the items but I didn’t feel any sort of inspiration. I assume it stems from often getting “schoolish“ items in my other boxes, but at the same time I liked the concept of getting one box dedicated just to them. Plus I adore practicality considering how much gets spent on these and they have been doing pretty well with that!
♥ Cutie Scale ♥
1. Sumikko Gurashi Case - Again pastels and designs, but just looking at it makes me feel happy x3
2. Amuse Pen - I love it’s pale pastels and colorful design... but the clippy part of the pen’s top that you attach it to things with kind of blocks the image a teensy bit, which is kind of annoying to me.
3. Jinbesan Folder - I love how it has two alternate designs and is so smooth and translucent. Any time I see something Jinbesan related, I really want to hug it. I feel so warm and comforted looking at it~
4. My Melody Onigiri Maker - As much as I love cute pinkness, that’s all there really is going for it.
5. Aggretsuko Plush - ...It’s probably really obvious right?
Alrighty, that will be doing it with another review :3 I hope you found it enjoyable (I’d say informative but lets be real it isn’t), and because I didn’t get my April Gacha Gacha box yet, I will be moving on to our October boxes! I’m so excited, not only was October my birthday month, but it features spooky-kawaii items for Halloween~
Until next time, stay cute!

Oh To Be a Barton (Chapter Eight)
@justgrits
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clint hadn't moved from his spot in two days. Natasha had to force him to clean up from the mission, but that's all she got out of him. He had refused to eat or sleep. Clint wanted to be there for when Emily finally woke up. The past two days had been long and tiring. Clint was worried that Emily would never wake up and that he’d never get the chance to tell his sister just how much she meant to him.
Clint hated how small she looked in the big hospital bed. He and everyone else tend to forget that his sister was only nine. Her huge vocabulary and even bigger brain made her seem to be older than what she really was. Most times it felt like he was arguing with a mini adult.
Emily's left leg was broken. Her fibula snapped right in half. The doctors had to screw a metal plate into the bone to help hold it into place as it healed. She had several cuts and bruises scattered across her body from the shattered glass. The doctors had told Clint that they removed over two dozen shattered pieces of glass from her face and arms. She had a concussion and a small fracture to her skull. They had to put her into an induced coma so the skull fracture would heal faster.
Clint's hand was wrapped in his sister's as he lay snuggled up next to her. Sleep didn't come for him, but he felt relaxed and energized just being next to her. The only times Clint ever got out of the bed was when he had to use the bathroom or when the nurses came in to check on her vitals. Natasha and Fury both had tried getting him to eat, but Clint couldn’t stomach the food. The smell and thought of it made him even more nauseous.
At the sound of a soft knock, Clint looked up to see Natasha. She was dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and one of his hoodies. Her hair was pulled back away from her face making her long even younger. She gave him a soft smile before leaning up against the door. Clint sat up a little straighter in the bed.
"You need out of this room." Nat stated.
"I don't want to leave her alone." Clint's voice was rough as he spoke.
"I figured, that's why I brought backup." Nat told him.
A figure stepped in behind Nat. Coulson gave the oldest Barton a soft smile. He was holding a small plastic bag of snacks and drinks with a stack of magazines tucked under one of his arms. He looked tired and older than usual. Today, Coulson was dressed down in a pair of jeans and a simple t-shirt.
"Let me take care of the kid for awhile." He said.
Clint glanced down at his sister.
"If she wakes up you'll be the first one I call." Coulson reassured the boy.
"Come on Clint. Let me treat you to lunch." Nat said.
"I don't want to go far." Clint told her.
"I was thinking of hitting up Subway. It's right across the street." Natasha replied.
"Alright, I'll go." Clint gave in.
Coulson patted Clint on the back as the boy walked past him. Clint waited until he saw Coulson seated next to his sister. Acting as if his sister wasn’t in a coma, Coulson began filling Emily in on the drama she was missing at the training center. He launched right in with a story on why Piper punched one of the students in the face for accidentally stepping on her foot.
Natasha laced her hand with Clint and gave his hand a small squeeze. He glanced down at their laced hands and then back up at her face. She gave him a soft smile before tugging him out of the room. Clint walked with Natasha to the elevator. They rode down to the main level and then Natasha led them down to the main doors. The nurses waved to the teens as the pair walked out. The duo quickly crossed the street over to Subway.
After making the subs, the pair sat in the corner booth eating quietly. Natasha watched her best friend quietly eat his sandwich. They may have only known each other for several weeks, but Natasha knew him better than anyone else. She knew what made the boy twitch. Natasha also understood that right now Clint was beating himself up over Emily.
"This isn't your fault, Clint." Natasha finally broke the silence.
Clint froze.
"Don't try denying it. I know you." Natasha quickly added.
Clint sighed.
"I shouldn't have pushed her. She wasn't happy there." Clint said.
"Clint, Emily isn't going to blame you. If she really didn't want to do the mission she could have thrown one of her famous tantrums and Fury would have let her out. Emily did this for you and for Coulson." Natasha told him.
"I don't want her to hate me, Nat, I didn't protect her like I promised her I would." Clint replied.
"You've done an amazing job taking care of Emily, Clint. You're just a kid yourself taking care of another kid. Emily is brilliant and kind. She has good morals and can defend herself. She's that way because you had faith in her and loved her." Natasha said.
Clint wiped at his eyes. Natasha laced her hand with his larger one. Clint played with her fingers as he willed himself to calm down and stop crying. Natasha leaned forward to caress his cheek with the back of her hand.
"Trust me, Clint, it's going to be okay." Natasha whispered.
Clint nodded. “Will you go to the hospital gift shop with me?”
“Of course, I will.” Natasha said.
“I want to get Emily some flowers to freshen up her room.” Clint explained as they got up to throw away their things.
“She’ll like that.” Natasha smiled.
Walking hand in hand, the pair walked back to the hospital. Natasha left Clint to choose the perfect bouquet of flowers for his sister. She trailed around the shop looking for something that she could buy for Emily. After a few minutes of searching, Natasha found the perfect gift and plucked it from the shelf. Nat met up with Clint at the register. The bouquet of flowers were huge and perfect. The sunflowers were bright yellow and the white daisies popped against the yellow.
Natasha purchased her small gift and Clint gave her a sad smile. His sister loved penguins. They were her favorite animals. The plush penguin was the size of Nat’s palm and had a small purple bow tie wrapped around his neck. The pair headed back up to the ICU ward to give their gifts to Emily and release Coulson from his duty.
As they waited for the elevator, Clint and Natasha both were surprised to see Director Fury and Bruce Banner step off the elevator. Clint glared at the Director before shaking Banner’s hand.
“What are you doing here, Banner?” Natasha asked.
“I asked the Doctor to come.” Fury answered.
“Clint, I’d like to have a talk with you.” Banner said.
“I was just going to go and see Emily.” Clint replied.
“Please, I won’t take up much of your time.” Banner said.
“Go on Clint. I’ll take these up to Emily.” Natasha said, taking the bouquet.
Clint gave over the flowers even though he didn’t want to. Whatever Banner wanted to talk about could wait. All Clint wanted to do was go up stairs and check on his sister, but Banner looked uncomfortable being in such a public place. Clint decided to just get it done and over with so he could send Banner on his way and he could be back up with Emily. Natasha and Fury disappeared in the elevator. Banner led Clint towards the hospital garden.
“The Doctors say that your sister is making good progress.” Banner said.
“Yeah, if she’d just wake up we could go home.” Clint said.
“About that. What have you been thinking about doing once Emily is out of the hospital and on her way to healing?” Banner asked.
Clint shrugged his shoulders. “I haven’t put much thought into it.”
“Do you like working with Shield?” Banner asked.
“It’s been the best several weeks of my life.” Clint answered.
“Could you see yourself doing this full time? For life?” Banner asked.
“I could, but I have to put Emily first.” Clint replied.
“What if there was a way for you to stay with Shields knowing that your sister was being taken care of in a safe place?” Banner asked him.
“I’m not going to send my sister off to a foster home.” Clint snarled.
“Relax. That isn’t what I said. Answer my question.” Banner said.
“If Emily had somebody I trusted to take care of her and she was going to be safe then I’d let her go.” Clint answered.
“Would you be okay with your sister traveling the world?” Banner wondered.
Clint sighed. “I don’t know? I guess, as long as she was safe.”
“Would you be satisfied knowing that your sister was being raised by somebody else?” Banner asked.
“What are you getting at?” Clint replied.
Banner chuckled at the boy’s impatience. “I would like to have custody of your sister.”
Clint’s eyes widened. “Seriously? Wouldn’t that hinder your on the run plan?”
“It would put a slight hitch into some of the areas I would hide at, but I’d like to take your sister with me. We’d be off Shields radars and I could keep her safe and well.” Banner explained.
“Will she be safe around you?” Clint asked with a raise of his eyebrows.
“I can’t tell you that I have 100% control, but I can promise you that she will be safe around me.” Banner answered.
“My sister can be a difficult person to deal with. She’s stubborn and can be pretty mean sometimes even though she doesn’t mean it. Emily’s an extremely picky eater and has food allergies. Her anxiety runs high and she tends to worry a lot. She’s also really fucking smart and that can make her really annoying sometimes.” Clint explained.
Bruce laughed. “Your sister sounds like a typical kid.”
Clint stopped laughing. “She’s all I have left, you know.”
“I’m not taking your sister away from you, Clint. I’m just trying to give her a somewhat normal life.” Banner told him.
“Can I visit her?” Clint asked sheepishly.
“Of course you can. She’s still your sister.” Banner answered.
“I should tell you no.” Clint said. “Emily’s always been my responsibility. I’ve never let anybody else take care of her. It’s always been us. She’s more than just my sister. She’s like my kid.”
“But?” Banner said.
“But, I have to do what's best for us.” Clint said.
“I know that you love your sister and want to give her what is best, but you’re just a kid. You need to start putting yourself first. Grow up a little and have a stable job and get yourself a home. When you’re ready to settle down then you can come back and get Emily.” Banner said.
“You swear you’ll take care of her?” Clint asked.
“Like as if she were my own child.” Banner replied.
Clint nodded. “Okay.”
Banner hooked an arm around the teen’s neck and pulled him in. The pair slowly walked back towards the hospital. Banner told Clint all of the places that he wants to go to. Clint even told Banner some of the locations that Emily had once dreamed about visiting and that Banner should add some of those locations to his list. The pair talked and shared ideas all the way back up to Emily’s room.
Clint was stunned into silence when he saw his sister sitting up in bed with a large smile on his face. He gravitated away from Banner and over to his sister. Coulson and Natasha moved out of the way as Clint fell face first into his sister’s shoulder. Both Barton siblings began crying as soon as Clint wrapped his arms around his younger sibling. Coulson directed the others out of the room giving the siblings a few minutes to themselves.
“I never thought you were going to wake up.” Clint admitted.
“You know me. I enjoy having a dramatic entrance.” Emily teased.
Clint sat back to look down at her. She wiped away his tears and he pressed several kisses to her face. Emily let out a small laugh as Clint doted on her. Clint adjusted so he was lying next to her. Gently, he wrapped his arms around her and held onto her tightly. Emily sighed as she settled in against her brother.
“I’m sorry, Emily.” Clint said.
“Why are you apologizing? It should be me.” Emily asked.
“What are you talking about? You have no reason to apologize.” Clint told her.
“I screwed up and got hurt.” Emily answered.
Clint shook his head. “No way. If anyone is to blame for messing up that’s me. I never should have allowed you to go on that mission.” Clint explained.
“I thought that we were okay, you know? You pulled me out of the van and we were running. I could hear our chopper coming. All I wanted was to go home.” Emily said.
“I’m sorry that this happened to you.” Clint apologized again.
“I don’t want to do this anymore Clint, but I don’t want to make you quit. I can see how happy you’ve been since becoming a part of Shields.” Emily said.
“Don’t you worry, okay? I have this all figured out.” Clint said.
Emily looked up at her brother. “You do?”
“Of course I do. Do you trust me?” Clint asked.
“No matter how mad I get at you I will always trust you.” Emily replied.
“Then let’s worry about getting you cleared from the hospital and then we can talk.” Clint told her.
Emily furrowed her brows. “What are you hiding from me?”
Clint sighed. “I’m not hiding anything, Emily. I’m going to tell you, but I want you out of this place first.”
“Okay, Clint, okay.” Emily sighed.
“I love you, kid.” Clint said, kissing her forehead.
“Love you too.” Emily said as she leaned back against the bed.
Emily wanted to ask him a bunch more questions, but she could see the guilt stricken look on his face. Emily dropped the subject for now. She let Clint call for the doctors. Even though Emily wanted answers she wanted out of the hospital even more. For now she’d let her brother and his secrets hide for now.
The topic was left alone once Natasha came back in the room with Coulson, Fury and Doctor Banner. Coulson gave her a gentle hug before Natasha kissed her several times on the face. Fury said nothing to her as he watched her carefully. Coulson introduced Doctor Banner to the young girl. Emily was delighted to finally meet the Doctor since he was one of her role models.
The pair easily slid into conversation about science causing Natasha to roll her eyes and Clint to groan. Their conversation didn’t stop when the nurses and doctors came in to check Emily’s vitals. Clint could see how enamored his sister already was with the older man. Him sending her away was going to break her heart, but Clint knew that this match was a perfect one. That these two were going to be perfect for one another and that in the end his sister was going to be okay.
