Call me old fashioned but I don't much like the idea/fanon/concept of the Doctors "real" name being anything except the Doctor/Doctor Who. As I understand it, a renegade time lord takes a weird pretentious title as a name as a way of symbolically separating themselves from Gallifrey and therefore abandoning their birth name or any name their fellows would have known them by (in other words. The transgenderism of it all). Maybe the Doctors birth name is something we are or aren't meant to know about but it doesn't matter because. That's their deadname and it doesn't make any real difference.

#i simply refuse to believe the master or any other fellow would call the doctor “theta”#or any variation thereupon. they respect them too much for that. their name is DOCTOR WHO #this is more of my gripe with fandom than with steven moffat cause like.#moffats whole gimmick was setting up the doctors name to be this dark terrible earth shattering secret and then having missy say #“by the way his real name is Doctor Who” like yeah that tracks #who the FUCK is theta sigma #doctor who #the doctor #susan only knew them as “grandfather” and the name Doctor Foreman was coined by Ian Chesterton #obviously the doctor didnt vibe with that one but they still didnt willingly take on the name “doctor” for a long while #i do like that bit in the war machines where the machine continuously refers to him as “doctor who”#like yeah bitch he is defined by his unknowableness
