That sounds like cochineal insects.
[ID: Left picture is of a fallen cactus paddle. Several white fuzzy insects cover its surface. Some red splotches are visible, presumably from the insects.
Right picture is a close up of a woody cactus stem. It shows the texture and creases visible with some more insects visible. END ID]
I was having a weird day (overstimulated) until I saw this cactus outside of a bbq place. I thought it was cool at least haha
I thought for a moment that the cactus paddle was bloody but I think it's actually from those bugs. I don't know what kind of bugs that is though, so don't ask

¿Cuáles son las plantas y rocas nacionales de los reinos?
(Translated with Google Translator)
"What are the national plants and rocks of the kingdoms?"
----
That's a very good question! I had to think about this one for a while. I don't know enough about geology to talk about national rocks, but I do know a little about plants.
Here are the most fitting plants I can think of for each kingdom...
Folkvar: Houseleek (thrives in cold, hard to kill)
Matuzu: Matuzan Lily (represents romance and fertility)
Lamai: Flytrap (unassuming yet dangerous)
Yerim-Mor: Optunia (symbolizes hope and endurance)
Zareen: Dandelion (symbolizes adaptability)
Evangeline: Wheat (staple crop, symbolizes Evangeline as the world's "breadbasket")
Mogdir: Candleroot (staple crop, symbolizes magic)
Etios: Grapevine (symbolizes satyr wine, a popular Etiosi export)
Damijana: Lotus (symbolizes intelligence and rising above poor conditions)
Seelie: Rose (beautiful yet thorny)
Unseelie: Bleeding Heart (symbolizes grief and gore)
Alliance: Kelp (staple crop, symbolizes rapid growth)

thanks for the tag, @teejaystumbles! I'm alive believe it or not :)
Rules: Tag 10 (or less) people you want to get to know better
relationship status: as those in my server know, I am for the first time in my life Not Single. The Girlfriend is why I haven't been writing as much, LOL. (I'm very happy)
favourite colour: green! with purple coming in close second! But always, always, green my beloved
song stuck in my head: Right now it's DEAN's "come over," and Shocking Blue's "Venus."
three favourite foods: I am a sucker for mac n' cheese, and cheese, and olives. Yeah.
last song I listened to: "Back in Town" by Tuxedo
dream trip: I will admit, I've been enthralled by the Mongolian Plains for years and years. I'd love to go out into them, on horseback, and just be out in the middle of nowhere with all that empty space, in the six feet of space between heaven and earth and something like that... Admittedly, I am from the Appalachian regions. I should probably visit Ohio or another flat, empty state before romanticizing Mongolia.
last thing(s) i googled: "native pennsylvania cactus" There is, in fact, a cactus species native to PA. It's Optunia humifusa, the Eastern prickly pear cactus. It has edible fruit, and looks like this:

The only one I am very sure of is #5, the cactus. Optunia engelmannii, otherwise known as Hairy Roger.
I had a nice one for a long time before it fell victim to a long bout of depression xD and I 110% bought it because of the name. Congratulations on your hairy roger!
[Image description: Six different photos of assorted succulent plants in pots. I am unsure what species. End description.]
Hey plant & gardening tumblr, I need some help! I was given all of these succulents as gifts, and while I've been managing to keep them alive okay, I don't actually know what species they are. I have a couple ideas, but I could use some help narrowing it down. I want to give them proper care for their individual needs!

Eastern Prickly Pear
Optunia Humifusa
Take a look at this ridiculous native cactus to New England. We all think of cactus being only exclusive to arid hot desert environments, but I guess we are all wrong. I for one was surprised to see this growing at the Arnold Arboretum. The stems, or pads, can grow to 2-7 inches long, and about 1.5-5 inches wide, in zones 4-9. It enjoys loamy, sandy soils, with full sun (of course, its a cactus)
The reason these plants can be okay in New England is that they have an antifreeze chemical in their cells that prevents freezing, even in sub zero temperatures. They do in fact flower, so they are a nice addition to a garden landscape if placed correctly.
In terms of building material, I can’t think of a worse plant. This plant would get a negative score if I could. It earns a 1 out of 10.
This plant is certainly captivating, especially how it looks. I would give this one a 7 our of 10 for beauty, not the most stunning plant, but definitely unique. It sure was a surprise to see this in New England.
Bark: (1-3) 2
Leaves: (1-4) 2
Landscape uniqueness: (1-3) 3
Total: 7
