I have been lucky to shoot some of the world's biggest female pop stars, they always leave me in awe… CASE #10~Joan Jett This was one of my first shoots at the beginning of the end of my Assistant career. It was a legendary session for me at least.. First it was Joan, a personal hero that I had seen live many times thru-out my youth. She even came to my house, a punk rock party house called “Club Mayhem” in Tempe AZ in the 80’s for an after a show to party. ( I didn’t bring it up at the shoot) Pure punk she is…. Joan walked in the front door of Industria studio NYC all by herself, coming through the front door at the same time as legendary photographer Steven Meisel and a gaggle of super models, Nomi, Linda..etc. were arriving...Joan was smoking a big blunt, walked right up to reception and in her ruff rock voice, “I’m looking for joey CuTiCE,,,” Meisel looked incredulous. I rushed to Joan to introduce myself, and whisked her off to the stage. The studio managers who’s office was right next to my stage kept complaining about the weed smell, ( it had filled the entire complex with pundgent skunk smoke) I was not going to tell Joan she could not smoke, fuck them. That leads to the “MAGIC JOAN JETT JOINT'' story, Joan offered myself and the 6 person crew to smoke after the session, we all took a puff or two, hugs and kisses and Joan was on her way. We were all so totally stoned, really really stoned, couldn’t move stoned. We realized when She left there was half smoked blunt on the make-up table. I took it home and the next day I got 4 other people stoned, but still there was a bit left that got 4-5 other people completely high later that week. Joan smoked at least one and half blunts all by herself!!!
