my favourite part of Orwell’s writing is when he described anime glasses flashing in 1945
#IT'S A JOKE i am aware it's a deliberate visual shorthand#hell Hoya is a Japanese company#also fun fact: i explain AR to customers by saying that it helps avoid the anime-glasses-flash effect#because i have had people ask if it ‘isn't gonna look ugly on photos’#and i was like bitch it's the only thing that's gonna make your eyes visible at all on photos most of the time#also a thing that happens often:#[customer points at one of the posters in the store] ‘so is the model on that photo wearing one of those lenses’#me: ‘...ma'am the model is not wearing any lenses. they take the lenses out for photoshoots. to avoid reflections...’#optician mantra number 1: anti-reflection anti-glare anti-fog and anti-scratch treatments REDUCE the above effect#not eliminate them#optician mantra number 2: shatter-proof and break-proof does NOT exist#anything can be broken by a sufficiently resourceful and determined toddler
