India Smartphone Market Declined by 10% in 2022 to 144 Million Units
According to the International Data Corporation's (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, the India smartphone market exited 2022 with 144 million shipments (the lowest since 2019), with a 10% decline YoY (year-over-year). 4Q22 declined 27% YoY as shipments fell to 30 million units. Despite multiple price discounts and channel schemes, high inventory levels after Diwali restricted new shipments. Dwindling consumer demand due to high inflation remained a challenge throughout the year despite the improved supply situation. The ASP (average selling price) hit a record US$224, rising 18% YoY in 2022. "The entry-level segment (sub-US$150) shrank to 46% of the market, down from 54% a year ago. The dearth of new launches in this critical mass segment was a barrier for new smartphone users, thus limiting the overall market's growth," said Upasana Joshi, Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India. Key Highlights for 2022: Shipments to online channels dropped by 6% YoY, though with a record-high share of 53%. The offline channel declined by 15% YoY. 50 million 5G smartphones were shipped during the year with an ASP of US$395 in 2022, down from US$431 in 2021. With more affordable 5G launches expected in 2023, 5G devices should account for around 60% of shipments in 2023. The share of MediaTek and Qualcomm-based smartphones dropped while UNISOC's share doubled to 14%, with significant volumes coming from realme and Samsung in the entry-level 4G segment. The mid-premium and premium price segments of US$300-500 and US$500+ grew 20% and 55%, respectively, while the sub-US$300 segment declined by 15%. In the premium segment of US$500+, Apple maintained its lead with a 60% share (iPhone 13 being the 3rd most shipped device in 2022), followed by Samsung with a 21% share. 201 million mobile phones were shipped in 2022, clocking a 12% annual decline. Feature phone shipments stood at 57 million, a drop of 18% YoY. Samsung, Xiaomi and Transsion were the leading companies in the total mobile phone market. 4Q22 Top 5 Smartphone Vendor Highlights Xiaomi maintained its lead but faced high inventory during 4Q22. It had a tough year, with a lean entry-level portfolio and continued dependency on the online channel for the majority of its shipments. Samsung stood at a close second with a diversified portfolio across price bands and channels: the Galaxy A series in the offline channel, the M and F series in the online channel, and the Galaxy S/Flip/Fold in the premium segment. There were price cuts after Diwali to ease inventory. Samsung continued to lead the 5G segment. vivo stood at the third position, with well-managed inventories. Despite being an offline-heavy brand, it managed a significant play in the very important online channel with aggressive shipments of its T series and iQOO brand through 2022. It regularly ensured sufficient channel partner schemes, price cuts, and stock clearance. OPPO climbed to the fourth slot in 4Q22. The affordable A series accounted for the majority of volume, along with a focus on the F and Reno series. OPPO also launched its online-exclusive K series in 2022 to ensure its omnichannel presence. realme slipped to the fifth slot in 4Q22 as new shipments fell, owing to high inventory from the previous quarter. realme continued to be an online-heavy brand with the majority of volumes from its C series plus affordable 5G models towards the end of the year. Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Devices Research, IDC, said, "We should expect a rather difficult and elongated recovery for the smartphone market, as worries around rising prices and excess inventories will remain a concern through at least the first half of 2023. Vendors and channel partners need to rethink their plans for their entry-level portfolios, driving 5G device affordability with attractive trade-in programs and financing schemes." Oppo phones Review
The Chinese Oppo Electronics Corporation was registered in 2004. Today, the company produces premium consumer electronics, as a division of BBK Electronics. Founded in 1995, BBK Electronics LTD is one of the largest manufacturers of consumer electronics in China. Moreover, BBK Electronics also owns Vivo Communication Technology Co. Ltd, Realme and OnePlus. Today, the share of Oppo and Vivo companies reaches 9% and 8% of the global market. Thus, their total share reaches 17%. For comparison, the share of the leading Samsug is also 17%. According to the results of the third quarter of 2019, Oppo and Vivo were included in the list of the most profitable companies along with Samsung, Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi. Formally, they compete with each other. But in fact, companies are focused on different markets. In particular, Oppo is active in America, Europe and India, and Vivo mainly works in the Chinese market.
Introduction
As a technology company, Oppo actively uses innovative solutions. Find X recently beautifully illustrated this trend. As known, in 2017, Apple engineers were among the first to implement cutout in the iPhone X, trying to create a frameless smartphone. This solution successfully eliminated the problem of front-facing camera placement in a frameless design, freeing up space for additional pixels. Unfortunately, many experts criticized its aesthetics despite the real increase in the screen surface. As a result, in 2018, Oppo optimized this solution by proposing Find X with a retractable camera in the upper part of the case.
When starting the camera app, the hidden module automatically rises within 0.5 seconds. Moreover, it also contains a rear-facing camera. Perhaps in the future, this solution will be able to compete successfully with cutout design. Today, Oppo produce phones in their A series, RENO series, Find series, F Series, N series and R series. However, the company does not very strictly follow its own classification. For example, according to many experts, F15 is a global version of the Oppo A91 introduced in December in China.
Oppo A5s
Series A includes mid-budget smartphones. In April 2019, Oppo launched the A5s.
The model uses a 6.2-inch InCell IPS display (92% sRGB and 68% AdobeRGB) with 720 x1 520 resolution (271 ppi density), 8-core Helio P35 (4 x Cortex-A53, 2.3 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A53 , 1.8 GHz) chipset with PowerVR GE8320, RAM 2/3/4 GB and 32/64GB Storage. As known, in 2018 Xiaomi first installed Helio P35 on Mi Play. In fact, it replaced the not-so-popular Helio P30. According to the company, today it produces P35, P60, P70 and P90 using the 12nm FinFET (fin field-effect transistor) process technology from TSMC, which provides a significant reduction in energy consumption. In addition, the company offers CorePilot technology to optimize energy consumption. Additionally, the P35 supports AI functionality. In addition, the smartphone has an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0, and double camera system (13MP + 2MP with f/2.2 and f/2.4).
Oppo A8 and Oppo A91
In December, in China, the company introduced two more models of this series, including the A91 and A8.
The Oppo A8 uses a 6.5-inch IPS display with 1600 x 720 resolution (270 ppi density), an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35, triple camera system (12 MP, f/1.8, wide, PDAF + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5",1.75µm, macro camera + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5", 1.75µm, depth sensor) and 8 MP, f/2.0 selfie camera, 4GB RAM, 128 GB storage, a fingerprint scanner and a 4230 mAh battery. In addition, it supports 2 SIM cards. The Oppo A91 has a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with 2400 x 1080 resolution (408 ppi density), 12nm 8-core Mediatek Helio P70 (ARM big.LITTLE architecture - 4 x Cortex A73, 2.1 GHz + 4 x Cortex A53 , 2.0 GHz) chipset with Mali-G72 MP4 GPU, four camera system (48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm, (wide) 1/2.0", 0.8µm, PDAF + 8 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/4.0 ", 1.12µm + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5", 1.75µm (dedicated macro camera) + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5", 1.75µm, depth sensor) and 16 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide), 1/3.1", 1.0µm selfie camera, 8GB RAM, 128 GB storage, fingerprint (under display, optical), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and Li-Po 4025 mAh battery. The cost of A5s and A8 varies in the range of $ 150-170. The price of A91 reaches almost $ 300 in China.
F Series
The models in this series use the innovative AI SelfieTune integrated face recognition technology. The company first used it in an Oppo F5. Oppo F7 (Selfie Expert) uses the second generation of AI SelfieTune 2.0. In particular, it recognizes and optimizes 296 reference points on the face, which exceeds the first version by 20%. In 2019, the company introduced the Oppo F11 and Oppo F11 Pro.
Both models work under Android 9.0 Pie. They use a 6.5-inch LTPS IPS LCD display with 2340 x 1080 resolution (397 ppi), an 8-core Mediatek Helio P70 and dual camera system (48MP + 5MP). But the F11 Pro uses a motorized pop-up 16MP front camera that automatically rises above the panel.
The F11 selfie camera does not have this feature.
Oppo K Series
In 2018 the company introduced the first Oppo K1 smartphone, and in 2019 - Oppo K3 and Oppo K5. Both models support DC Dimming technology, which reduces the flickering the AMOLED displays due to low PWM. As known, DC Dimming eliminates flicker, reducing eye strain, but can distort color reproduction. In fact, Oppo K3 is an improved version of last year's K1.
The model uses a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2340 resolution (394 ppi density), 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core (2 x Kryo 360 Gold (Cortex-A75), 2.2 GHz + 6 x Kryo 360 Silver (Cortex-A55) , 1.7 GHz) with Adreno 616, 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, 16MP f/1.7 + 2MP f/2.4 (dual main camera) and built-in 16MP retractable selfie camera with f/2.0, 3765 mAh battery, has a fingerprint scanner, supports 2 SIM cards, SlowMotion and VOOC 3.0 flash charge. High performance, efficient throttling (algorithm to protect the processor from overheating by skipping work cycles), high battery life, DC Dimming and wide color coverage are pros of this model. Unfortunately, the model does not have an NFC module (Near field communication) and a microSD slot. Model costs $ 350-400. The Oppo K5 targets the Indian market and costs about $ 100 less.
The model uses a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2340 resolution (402 ppi density), the newer 7nm 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G (2 x Kryo 470 Gold (Cortex-A76), 2.2 GHz + 6 x Kryo 470 Silver (Cortex- A55), 1.8 GHz) with Adreno 618, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, four camera system (64MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP) with autofocus and OIS, 32MP selfie camera, Li-Po 4000 mAh battery. Of course, it has a set of traditional sensors.
Oppo Reno
The company is positioning Oppo Reno as a sub-brand, with high hopes for it. Oppo Reno and Reno 10x Zoom were the first models of the new series.
In terms of price and specs, the Reno 10x Zoom competes with the Huawei P30 Pro. Smartphones work under Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6 interface. Like K3, Oppo Reno uses a 10nm 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 (2 x Kryo 360 Gold (Cortex-A75), 2.2 GHz + 6 x Kryo 360 Silver (Cortex-A55), 1.7 GHz) with Adreno 616. But Reno 10x Zoom has a more powerful 7nm 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 550 (1x Kryo 485, 2.84 GHz + 3 x Kryo 485, 2.42 GHz + 4 x Kryo 485, 1.78 GHz). Oppo Reno uses a dual camera system (Sony IMX586 48MP sensor with f/1.7 and OIS, and an 8MP sensor with f/2.2) and a built-in 16MP retractable selfie camera without flash. This design many often call shark fin. But Reno 10 x Zoom has an additional periscope telephoto lens with a 10x hybrid zoom. Moreover, its resolution reaches 13 MP vs 8 MP in the Huawei P30 Pro. Oppo Reno uses a 6.4-inch FullHD+ AMOLED display with 2340 x 1080 resolution (402 ppi), with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and support for DCI-P3 standard. In general, the list of its pros includes a design with shark fin, a good display, fast VOOC 3.0 charging and a fairly high shooting quality. The Reno 10x Zoom has a 6.6-inch display (387 ppi density) with similar specifications. Today, its price varies in the range of $ 600-700 (6GB RAM, 128GB storage / 8GB RAM, 256GB storage). Of course, 6.6-inch display and an excellent telephoto lens with a 10x hybrid zoom are its main pros.
Oppo Reno2, Reno2 F и Reno2 Z
Of course, they all have pop-up selfie cameras to provide edge-to-edge displays.
All models use almost identical frameless AMOLED capacitive touchscreens which is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 technology. Reno 2 and Reno 2 F have 6.5-inch screens with 1080 x 2400 (401 ppi) and 1080 x 2340 (394 ppi) resolutions, respectively, and Reno 2 Z have a 6.53-inch screen with 1080 x 2340 resolution (395 ppi). All phones use the traditional four camera system.
But their systems differ slightly in modules. For example, Reno2 received a 13MP telephoto lens.
The Reno2 F and Reno2 Z cameras are almost identical.
But models have different chipsets. In particular, Reno2 uses an 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G (2 x Kryo 470 Gold, 2.2 GHz + 6 x Kryo 470 Silver, 1.8 GHz) with an Adreno 618 GPU, Oppo Reno2 F - 12nm Mediatek Helio P70 (4 x Cortex-A73, 2.1 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A53, 2.0 GHz) with Mali-G72 MP3, Reno2 Z - 12nm Mediatek Helio P90 (2 x Cortex-A75, 2.2 GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55, 2.0 GHz) with PowerVR GM9446. Of course, Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G performance is higher compared to Mediatek, but Helio P70 and P90 are also very powerful chipsets. All models have 8 GB of RAM, VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 function and 4000 mAh Li-Po battery. PROS - good 6.5-inch screen with Gorilla Glass 6; - 8GB RAM; - 13MP telefoto lens and Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G in Reno2; - shark fin; - Dolby Atmos sound. Cons - no NFC module in Reno2 F and Reno2 Z; - no wireless charging.
Oppo Reno Ace
In October 2019, Oppo released inexpensive flagship Reno Ace.
The novelty supports SuperVOOC Fast Charge 2.0 technology of high-speed charging power of 65 watts, which provides charging 4000 mAh battery in only 30 minutes. In addition, the model uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus. This SoC integrates a fast 'Prime Core' that clocks up to 2.96 GHz (up from 2.84 GHz in the 855), three further fast ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores, which can reach up to 2.42 GHz, four power-saving ARM Cortex- A55 cores that clock up to a maximum of 1.8 GHz, and Adreno 640 GPU. Of course, today 855 Plus is the most powerful chipset in this segment. Moreover, the Adreno 640 delivers a 15% increase in productivity. In addition, the model uses a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 resolution (405 ppi density), 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, four camera system (48MP + 13MP + 8MP + 2MP) with autofocus and OIS and 16MP selfie camera. Of course, the model has a full range of traditional sensors and options, including ColorOS, dual SIM support and fast charging. Its estimated price varies around $ 450. Considering the 6.5-inch AMOLED screen, a camera with 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, Snapdragon 855 Plus and SuperVOOC Fast Charge 2.0, the model claims to be BestSeller in the segment of inexpensive flagships.
Oppo Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro
In 2020, Oppo released Reno 3 with MediaTek 5G SoC and Reno 3 Pro with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G & 5G Connectivity.
Both models work under running under Android 10 + ColorOS 7. OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G uses a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with 2400 x 1080 resolution (402 ppi density) with support for 90 Hz refresh rate and 97% coverage of NTSC standard, four camera system (48MP Sony IMX586, f/1.7 + 8MP f/2.2, 116 ° + 13MP f/2.4 + 2MP f/2.4) and 32MP (f/2.4) selfie camera, RAM 8/12GB and 128/256 storage. Given its cost of up to $ 500, the model has excellent chances of success.
Conclusion
Innovative focus, including shark fin and SuperVOOC Fast Charge 2.0, high-level components and affordable prices provide good prospects for Oppo phones. Today many consumers make a choice in favor of this brand when buying a smartphone. In addition, the company can gain a foothold in the segment of inexpensive flagships with the help of its very promising Oppo Reno series. The video offers the announcement of the new Oppo F15 Pro. Samsung Galaxy A71 Launched in India, WhatsApp Group Invite Links Indexed by Google, and Other News This Week
Samsung Galaxy A71 launch in India on Wednesday was certainly the biggest news of the week, with the South Korean electronics giant quietly bringing its latest mid-range smartphone to the country with nary a teaser. Another significant India launch this week was the LG W10 Alpha, the latest budget smartphone from the brand after unveiling the W-series in the country last year. LG also unveiled new K-series smartphones globally this week. The past 7 days also saw Xiaomi cut the price of the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India, after raising the price of the Redmi Note 8 the week before. Samsung Galaxy A71 arrives in India
The Samsung Galaxy A71 was unveiled globally late last year alongside the Galaxy A51, which made its way to India earlier this year. As we mentioned, Samsung made the Galaxy A71 India launch announcement without any teasers leading up to it, though plenty of rumours had tipped its arrival int the interim.
Featuring an Infinity-O Display and a quad rear camera setup, the latest mid-range offering from Samsung takes on the OnePlus 7, Oppo Reno, Redmi K20 Pro, and the Vivo V17 Pro at its price point of Rs. 29,999. It has been launched in a single 8GB+128GB variant in the country. The Samsung Galaxy A71 will go on sale in India from Monday, February 24 via both offline and online channels.
Specifications of the dual-SIM Galaxy A71 model that’s been launched include Android 10 (with Samsung’s One UI 2.0 skin atop), a massive 6.7-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 730 SoC, 8GB of RAM, a quad rear camera setup (64-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensor), and a 32-megapixel front camera.
Other specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A71 include 128GB of inbuilt storage (expandable via microSD card), the standard bunch of connectivity options including a USB Type-C port, the expected set of sensors including an in-display fingerprint sensor, as well as a large 4,500mAh battery featuring 25W fast charge support. Samsung is also touting some ‘make in India’ features, including new visual cards in the messaging app, multilingual typing, the Finder discovery tool, Smart Crop for quick and easy screenshots.
LG W10 Alpha budget smartphone launched in India

Redmi Note 8 Pro price in India cut
As you’d probably recall, Xiaomi hiked prices of the Redmi Note 8 in India earlier this month, citing coronavirus impacts on its supply chain. This week, it cut prices of the Redmi Note 8 Pro in India. Only the base model of the popular Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone has received a reduction in price, with other variants continuing to be sold at their earlier prices.
The base model of the Redmi Note 8 Pro features 6GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage, and it is now priced at Rs. 13,999 in India, which is a Rs. 1,000 price drop over its previous price of Rs. 14,999. To recall, the Redmi Note 8 Pro was launched in India back in October, and this actually represents the first reduction in price in the country since.
The other two Redmi Note 8 Pro variants available in the country, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage – are still available at their launch prices of Rs. 15,999 and Rs. 17,999, correspondingly.
Itel Vision 1 launch
Transsion Holdings is a big name in the offline market in the country, and its many brands take on giants like Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo in the budget segment. Priced at just Rs. 5,499, the Itel Vision 1 also comes bundled with Jio benefits as well as a Bluetooth headset worth Rs. 799 for buyers. Tecno Camon 15 series launch
One of Transsion Holdings’ other brands in India, Tecno this week launched two budget smartphones in the country – the Tecno Camon 15 and Tecno Camon 15 Pro – featuring quad rear camera setups. Amongst other claims, the company says the Tecno Camon 15 is the most affordable hole-punch display phone in the country – priced at Rs. 9,999. WhatsApp group invites indexed by Google
Earlier this week, it was spotted that Google was indexing private group invites of WhatsApp. While the vulnerability of private invite links has long been known, the easy accessibility via a simple Google search caused some controversy. While both WhatsApp and Google gave statements about this being expected behaviour, the links disappeared from simple searches soon after.
Group invite links provide access to anyone possessing them, and thus WhatsApp has long warned users to not to share such links in public forums. But the fact they were readily indexed by Google is the real issue, with commentators quick to point out the links could have been hidden from search engine crawling. You can read all about the issue in our comprehensive coverage.
NPCI’s abolishment of UPI interchange and PSP fees
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) this week announced it will revise both the UPI interchange fees and payment service provider (PSP) fees to zero for all domestic UPI merchant transactions, and this would be done retrospectively from January 1, 2020, effective until April 30 this year. The NPCI notified the changes in a circular. The move comes after the abolishment of the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR).
While there are benefits to be derived from the move, it also hits revenues of the burgeoning digital payments market in India, which has globally-backed providers like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Amazon Pay. Each of these players of invested heavily to grab a share of the growing UPI ecosystem. For now, it’s uncertain how the fees collected since January 1 will be recovered by the government.
Google’s withdrawal from free Wi-Fi service, and other telecom news this week
The week past had several significant headlines in the field of telecom, with the biggest perhaps being Google’s announcement of winding down the Google Station free Wi-Fi service. The good news is, while Google is backing out, its partners will continue providing the free Wi-Fi facility. In India, Google had partnered with the government’s mini-PSU, RailTel. To recall, the service had been launched back in 2015 as Google RailWire, and in recent years was expanded with local partners to other parts of the world. RailTel the service will continue at 415 railway stations across the country, after the Google contract ends.
Other telecom news this week includes both Airtel and Vodafone Idea making payments against their AGR dues to the government.

Apple bounces back as Huawei retreats – Telecoms.com
The Strategy Analytics numbers for the Q4 2019 global smartphone market are out and a couple vendors fared much better than the rest. The overall market contracted for the second year running, but less so than in 2018, perhaps indicating a 5G-fuelled recovery. For the quarter the big success story was Apple, which reversed its declines in previous quarters and delivered its best shipment numbers for a couple of year. Similarly Xiaomi rescued its year with a massive 27% increase in smartphones out the door. The big loser in Q4 2019 was Huawei, which saw the end of a two-year growth spurt by shipping 7% few phones than it did a year ago. How much of this down to all the hassle it’s getting from the US is unclear, but it can’t have helped. The long tail also contracted by 13% at the global smartphone market continued its consolidation towards the big six. “Worldwide smartphone demand remains mixed for now, with sharp declines in China balanced by strong growth across India and Africa,” said Linda Sui of SA. “Full-year smartphone shipments hit 1.41 billion in 2019, dipping 1 percent from 1.43 billion in 2018, due to mild inventory build in the second half of the year. Looking ahead, US trade wars and the China coronavirus scare will be among barriers to growth for smartphones in 2020. “Xiaomi had a great quarter in Western Europe and held steady in its biggest market India. Xiaomi is pushing hard into the 5G smartphone category and this will be a solid growth area for the vendor in 2020. Oppo is expanding hard into Western Europe, with new models like the Reno 5G, but it remains under persistent pressure from giant Huawei at home in China.” “Apple is recovering, due to cheaper iPhone 11 pricing and healthier demand in Asia and North America,” said Neil Mawston of SA. “Samsung’s global marketshare stayed flat at 18 percent, the same level as a year ago. Samsung continues to perform relatively well across all price-bands, from the entry level to premium models such as Galaxy Note 10+ 5G.” The chances are Apple will carry that momentum into this year and will probably experience a spike when it enters the 5G market in Q4. Demand for 5G phones seems to be exceeding expectations, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the whole market return to growth in 2020.

Oppo’s new flagship has a bit of everything
It shares a name with the biggest little city in the world, and fittingly, the Oppo Reno appears to have a lot going for it. Top level, there’s a nutty pop up camera wedge for selfies, 10x zoom, a 48 megapixel camera, in-display fingerprint reader and an optional 5G version. It’s got a whole lot of everything.
The handset makes its debut in Zurich today, but the company’s offered up just about all of the insight you’ll need earlier this morning There are going to be a few different versions of the handset, including the 6.4 inch standard and the 6.6 inch version, which sports the aforementioned 10x Zoom, along with a Snapdragon 855.
We are excited to announce #OPPOReno will be one of the first commercially available 5G phones to hit the European market, and we are proud to partner with @Swisscom to achieve this milestone through our 5G Landing Project! #FirstTo5 #GetReadyForReno pic.twitter.com/WAglcDGnVF
— OPPO (@oppo) April 10, 2019
More info on the 5G version is still forthcoming, but Oppo says it will be “one of the first commercially available 5G phones to hit the European market,” using Swisscom’s network. On that note, I would be surprised to see the handset available in the States, as Oppo doesn’t have much of a footprint in this part of the world. More info on availability in places like Europe and India is coming later this month.
As for pricing, the base level model starts at around $450, with the zoom starting at around $600. Pricing on the non-5G versions go up to just over $700.

Home
News
The premium segment of smartphones in India is small but slowly growing, as brands try to bring flagship elements to lower prices. One that has seen a lot of great options in recent months is the sub Rs 40,000 segment.
This segment includes flagships from competitive brands as well as last-gen flagships which are now subject to price drops. This compilation has smartphones which have powerful processors, big batteries with fast charging, multiple cameras and premium designs.
We’ve tried to include phones that are specialists at gaming and photography, as well as all-rounders that can be recommended to everyone. Following are the best smartphones in India under Rs 40,000.

Along with the Snapdragon 865, it also has UFS 3.0 storage and LPDDR5 RAM for speedy performance and operations. The Realme X50 Pro has a total of six cameras, bringing versatility to the back as well as front, in terms of focal length.

With OnePlus moving to two product lines, the 7T offers the best bang for your buck from the lot. It brings the smoothness and fast performance from its expensive sibling to the sub Rs 40K segment.
The 90Hz Optic AMOLED display is probably the best one in the segment, and the software skin has been fine-tuned to make the best of the competent hardware inside. The OnePlus 7T is often regarded as one of the best all-rounders and gaming phones around.

Big display
Reliable battery life
Not heavy
Great primary camera
Not a glass body
No telephoto camera
Samsung made a surprise entry to this segment with the S10 Lite, bringing a mix of features from this year’s S20 series over last year’s hardware. The result is a reliable device that gives the flagship Samsung experience at a new price.
The performance was always consistent, and it also had one of the best battery lives seen on a flagship. Thankfully, fast charging also makes the cut this time. Samsung flagship staples such as a big vibrant display, minimal designs, and an Infinity-O notch are also present.
The cameras are a mixed bag. The primary shooter is very reliable, but the ultrawide is a hit and miss. There’s no dedicated telephoto lens, either.
You can also consider the Note10 Lite, which opts for a slower processor but gives a telephoto camera, brings back the headphone jack and the S Pen.

The prominent front-firing speakers are godsent for gamers. The Asus ROG Phone II also has shoulder buttons that can be customized for gaming. It also houses a big 6,000mAh battery for unparalleled longevity.

Let’s end the list with one for the shutterbugs: the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. It was Oppo’s flagship for early 2019, and the start of the new Reno series. It recently got a significant price drop, bringing it to this price segment.
As the name suggests, it has a periscopic telephoto lens with a 5x telephoto lens that can go up to 60x. On the other end, it also has an ultrawide shooter. Even selfie camera is unlike others, with a pop-up “sharkfin” module.
