I’ve been doing a properly obsessive deep dive into The Libertines lately, watching loads of footage and docus and reading articles and all that shit because my Manics obsession has cooled quite a bit over the years and I need a new band to love. Anyway I fucking adore Peter and my god his writing is incredible, even his barely legible shit in Books Of Albion. But I was also thinking about his relationship with Carl and just like....Peter is so intense. Like, so intense. Drugs aside, he’s someone who seems to just feel and express everything no matter what and doesn’t try to hide it and doesn’t try to dampen the intensity of it. I read a post the other day talking about him getting upset in the airport about something or other and the person described his life as “upsetting whimsy” and just. He’s so intense because he’s got this separate reality for himself overlaid on top of our own reality and the rules are skewed and dramatic and strange and whimsy happens but so does upset. And it’s all intense. But again, about Carl (and again, drugs aside), he seems like someone who is equally intense on the inside but has the ability and desire to keep that intensity locked away. But like....it makes sense that even as “proper” adults, even after increasingly amicable reunions and increasingly supportive friendships, he’d want to keep a little distance from Peter. Because Peter seems to love him so much and so intensely. Like, every piece of footage at gigs but especially in interviews or Roger’s documentaries, Peter just looks at him with so much adoration and love and disbelief in his eyes. And I can imagine a love as intense as Peter’s, feelings as intense as Peter seems to feel them (or express them I suppose) would get so overwhelming. Especially if Carl is equally as intense but tries his best to keep it in and maybe tamp it down. It’s just funny to watch the two of them together because you can see the moments where Peter gets a little too intense and Carl starts getting...not uncomfortable, but maybe more emotional than he’d like, and ducks away or schools his features rather harshly or whatever. All the recent videos of them together have been so lovely and both seem to have chilled out considerably. But watching the Anthems docu and tanib and other gig/interview footage just...I can imagine that being on the receiving end of Peter’s intense love gaze for long periods of time can get really intense and emotional. And it’s like he always wants to be in Carl’s space (what’s that quote from the “rather toss off a frog” interview about him wanting to go over to Carl’s mic so early because he smells good etc). It’s like he just desperately wants Carl’s love and attention and support, but he doesn’t know how to express it like a normal person. Sometimes it really seems that he really is like a lonely child in an adult man’s body. If Carl knows Waterloo is a love song about him, which I’m sure he does, I bet those moments where Peter sings it basically in his face are pretty emotional. Like, there’s that footage from 2013 at a solo show where Peter starts to play Waterloo and then gets too upset and nearly cries and has to stop and play Dilly Boys instead, and that footage from a Puta Madres gig (idk when) where he lays down halfway through and Miki pets his head. Like, imagine that amount of emotion being thrown at you all at once, when it’s about you. It’s probably a lot. Idk where I’m going with this, it’s just a thought that was in my head. Like, I agree with Peter, I think they should do more things together and hang out more and be Friends (minus the pandemic) but I also can understand why Carl is more hesitant. Because Peter just like seems to love him So Much and to want and need so much from him and to be so intense with his own world overlaid on reality and so stubborn and emotionally intense, I imagine for a much-mellowed Carl it can be a lot. Anyway. This band is just a lot. Like, I thought the Manics were close and intense in terms of their relationships with each other. They don’t even get close to Peter and Carl. Who needs fiction when you’ve got a real life band that is the most intense crazy gay emotional relationship on the damn planet and with their own imaginary utopia world to boot.

Anyway that was just an absolutely pointless ramble of thoughts that have been in my brain but sometimes I just need to type shit out and post it so it stops circling in my head and I can focus on other dumb obsessive brain thoughts.

I can't believe that PiS won again. A lot of young people didn't go vote(shame on them!)and the grandmas and grandmas decided. Well, they all watch propaganda TV witch says that EU is our enemy, calls Macron a ''Poleseater''/''Polisheater''(really, one guy said that in the TV, lol).TV had showed the yellow vests protest every Saturday(sometimes almost everyday),until they saw a lot of communist flags on 1st May haha.The election in Poland was faked,or Poles are stupid.I pray for fake elections.

Cześć! Do not despair, my sweet dumpling! I know how dispiriting it can get (I got numb drunk with my Polish friends at Open'er as the 2015 results were announced) and my ex’s parents are diehard catho-taliban Duck voters… I feel like I absorb some of the TVP dystopia through osmosis.

Every tinpot despot thinks himself eternal and invincible, but time waits for no bitch (just ask Romanian friends on here). Also, there are many, many wonderful young people in your country who do care and are engaged and will keep fighting. The key is to find them and work with them, even if in small ways, before the next elections this fall. And remember: if you told an Irish person your age where their country was headed just 15 or 20 years ago, what would their reaction have been?

The King(s) They Want To See: A Short History of Kings of Leon Headlining on Tour

Only By the Night Tour

The first headlining tour by Kings of Leon effectively began in 2008, which served as a kind of coming out party for the group in a mainstream sense. They headlined several festivals that year including Reading & Leeds, Rock Werchter, Oxegen, T in the Park, Gurtenfestival and Open'er Festival, as well as Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits. A year earlier, the group also headlined the Pyramid Stage in Glastonbury, England. Their performance at O2 Arena in London led to the release of the dvd, Live at the O2 London, England in November 2009. Nathan would have this to say about the decision to release a live show from their appearance there. “England is really the first place we broke (...) We figured what better place to make a live DVD than where the fans have been the craziest for the longest. We just put the cameras in the back of our minds and acted like they weren't even there." Opening bands included We Are Scientists, The Stills, and The Whigs.

Come Around Sundown Tour

The second ever major headlining tour from the band took place between June 2010 and November 2011 including shows in North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and South America. In North America, the tour grossed over fourteen million dollars becoming the 49th highest selling tour that year. That summer of 2010, the band went on to headline the Bonnaroo Music Festival near their home base of Nashville, Tennessee. Come Around Sundown would not be released until October 2010, but the band ultimately decided to play some of the new music. Caleb Followill would say in an interview, "I think if we were to go out there, play a concert right now and not play some new music, it would feel like we had our hands tied and I think we would be bored with the show. We didn't want to go back out there and give them 'Only By the Night Tour' Part 2. It's inspiring to us to be able to go out there and play a new song. ... If we were going out there and not playing these songs, I don't think that we would have the spark and the smile on our face that we do at this point." The entire tour overall represented a success, but the tour did have a few mishaps along the way. A show in Maryland Heights, Missouri needed to be canceled due to a tremendous amount of falling “fecal matter” from pigeons above or in simpler terms bird shit. The Australian portion of the tour needed to be rescheduled due to Nathan Followill undergoing surgery for a torn biceps and labrum. A number of opening acts stepped in throughout the tour including Band of Horses,, The Whigs, The Black Keys, Built to Spill, Zac Brown Band, The Walkmen, and more.

Mechanical Bull Tour

The third major headlining tour for KOL took place from February 2014 to March 2015. Another injury to Nathan Followill forced the band to cancel eleven dates in August 2014 in Manchester, England. An incident with their tour bus caused a sudden stop leading to Nathan breaking some ribs. “A pedestrian jumped in front of their bus, causing the bus to stop short." Opening acts included Kongos, Haim, Gary Clark Jr., Local Natives, White Lies, Young the Giant, and more. The tour overall would amass over four million dollars with shows in North America, Europe, Asia, and South America.

WALLS Tour

The fourth major headlining tour for the group began in 2017 with the release of their new album in October of the previous year. Upon announcement of the tour on the Today Show, the dates almost sold out immediately illustrating the drawing power of the band. Billboard would write this about their performance at Madison Square Garden in 2017. “Every element of the show felt as thought-out as the next… and while the show was certainly a spectacle, there was still something so genuine about its presentation.” The Toronto Sun gave high marks to the visual aesthetics of their concert. “Sleek moving video screens, dramatic lights, [and] eye-catching imagery.” The Boston Globe commented that Kings of Leon gave a “royal rousing performance,” while the Patriot Ledger noted that they gave a “bracing shot of vitality” and offered a “terrific rock n roll party.” Opening acts for the tour included Dawes, Nathaniel Ratlief and the Night Sweats, Deerhunter, The Sherlocks, and more. The group headlined several festivals in the summer of 2017 including Rock Werchter, Pinkpop, INmusic, Tinderbox Festival, Mad Cool Festival, and British Summer Time.

Open’er Festival History

The first edition of the festival took place in 2002, lasted one day in Warsaw, where The Chemical Brothers played their first concert in Poland.

In 2003, the festival moved to Gdynia but not yet to the airport. It was on Kosciuszko Square, where fans could hear the concerts of Cassius, Kosheen, Layo & Bushwack.

In 2004, music lovers were able to party two days with artists such as Massive Attack, Cypress Hill, Pink and Goldfrapp.

In 2005, for 25 thousand festival participants played artists incl. Snoop Dogg, Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Lauryn Hill, The White Stripes and Underworld. On the first day, all daily tickets were sold.

In 2006, the festival was moved to Babie Doly - Kosakowo Airport because Kosciuszko Square started to get too cramped. The organizers also extended the festival to three days. To Gdynia came, a.o. Placebo, Pharrell Williams, Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Rós, Scissor Sisters, The Streets, Kanye West, Basement Jaxx.

In 2007, for the first time in the festival, there was a fashion zone: Fashion'er / Fashion Stage. And the concert program became even more impressive; Sonic Youth, Groove Armada, Beastie Boys, Muse and Björk.

In 2008, seven scenes were created: Main Stage, Tent Stage, World Stage, Young Talent Stage, Alter Space and two electronic spaces. For the audience of 50 thousand people performed a.o. The Chemical Brothers, Jay-Z, Risin Murphy and Editors.

In 2009, the festival was extended to four days. On the Open'er stages shown up artists like Arctic Monkeys, Basement Jaxx, Gossip, Sex Pistols and Faith No More.

2010 brought concerts incl. Pearl Jam, Kasabian, The Dead Weather and Pavement and also festival news such as ecological action and Kids Zone.

During the tenth edition of the festival in 2011, more than 85,000 festival participants were having fun on the grounds of Babie Doly, and the event was being covered by about five hundred journalists. There were more opportunities for spending time apart from concerts, like the Ferris Wheel and Silent Disco, the disco in the headphones. Thousands of fans spent great time at Prince's concert, ended with a birthday firework show. Fans could also enjoy the performances of Coldplay, The Strokes, Pulp, M.I.A. or Primus.

In 2012, on the Main Stage played probably the most electric line-up in Open’er's history: penderecki//greenwood, The Kills, Björk, New Order, Bon Iver, Justice. At the festival for the first time in such a large dimension emerged art and exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art.

Year 2013 is the year of ‘Kings and Queens’. The public has made the leader of Queens Of The Stone Age, Josh Homme, after the "best concert on the tour", to give up the protection and play with the audience, his fans. The Kings of Leon played for 60,000 fans. Rihanna danced the whole show under the stage. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Arctic Monkeys, The National and Tame Impala also appeared on Open'er scenes. In addition, Open'er participants was able to enjoy all the activities of the festival: Fashion Stage, Silent Disco, Kids Zone, Signing Tent, Ferris Wheel and others. From legendary Pearl Jam and freshly reactivated Faith No More, by great artists like The Black Keys and Jack White, to those who have just written their musical history: Haim, Bastille and Banks - that sounds Open'er Festival 2014, providing once again a full musical cross-section and sustaining the position of one of the most important festivals in Europe.

In 2015 Open'er brought an unforgettable musical experience and a four-day adventure. Headliners of the festival from 1 to 4 July were: Drake, The Libertines, Mumford & Sons and Kasabian. For the first two artists, these were also the first concerts in Poland. Their Polish debut in Gdynia also played Modest Mouse, D'Angelo and Alabama Shakes. Traditionally, a strong representation has provided also the national music scene to mention only the sensational live concerts of Natalia Przybysz, Fisz Emade Material or the true eyeopener of the festival - rapper Taco Hemingway, whose show at the Open'er watched several thousand people, although it was one of his first career appearances.

It was in 2016, the absolute mega-star of rock music, Red Hot Chili Peppers together with thousands of audience was chanting the football short song. Foo Fighters Announce ‘Concrete and Gold' Tour:

Foo Direct to you! The Foo Fighters are back! Did you miss them? The Dave Grohl-fronted group has just revealed dates for a three-month tour in support of their new album. The upcoming record, Concrete and Gold, marks the bands' ninth studio release and first since 2015 EP Saint Cecilia. In addition to previously announced festival dates this summer, the official Concrete and Gold tour will kick off on October 7 in San Bernardino, CA, at the band's own CAL Jam 17 festival. After that they're off through the South, Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Basically everywhere but the Northeast, leading many to believe that an additional leg will be announced at a later time. Tickets for the bulk of the shows go on sale June 29. No word on who will provide tour support.
