“Bunnyyyyy, do you want to go shopping together?” Opal grinned, bouncing into Bunny’s eyesight. “There’s a cute little boutique here, and I was thinking we could look and see if there are any baby clothes!”

"Okay, but you gotta make sure I don't hit my head!" Opal said with a grin, moving to stand on the edge of the dock. "How did you do it? Just jump and try and do a summersault in the air?"

❝thanks!❞ rocky exclaimed happily. had to indulge in the little wins of life and that one felt good. ❝i bet you could do it. it's not that hard, i think the biggest thing you have to worry about is fear.❞ though he was sure he'd flopped on his face more than once when he'd first tried it. ❝i could try to teach you?❞ he swam over and pulled himself up to sit next to her on the dock. rocky whipped his wet hair back to get it out of his face.

"okay." she doesn't react to the other person breaking up with her. "you wanna get your stuff now or do you wanna come back later?" she sticks her pizza rolls into the microwave. "just let me know cause i'll change the locks once all your stuff is out."

Opal lay in bed beside Ruby, gently running her fingers up and down the other’s arm absently. “It’s been a while since we’ve done this. I needed it,” she admitted with a small smile. “Have you been acclimating to the city well? Does anyone suspect who you really are?”

"Oh my gosh, Poppy? Is that really you?" Opal asked in surprise, almost not recognizing her former coworker. She hurried over and gave Poppy a tight hug. "I've been looking all over for you! When you didn't reach the workshop, I got so worried. I came down with my sister to look for you since we were all heading to the same place, but what are the odds it would be the place?! Oh gosh, I've missed you so much!"

"Yep! It's a lot of fun," Opal said with a grin, bouncing some on the balls of her feet. "Is Arlo here? He came with you, right? You gotta make sure he wears sunscreen."

bunny tries to remind herself to ease off and calm down a little, recognizing that it was the pretty constant and imminent danger of just being in the town that was making her hover so much. "okay. good, i'm glad you had something to eat -- and yes, arlo and i got a few things from the refreshment stand earlier." she nods towards her sister. "have you been having fun?"

"Rocky!" Opal exclaimed, hurrying to catch up with him. She panted some as she arrived, before straightening and looking at him with a grin. "I haven't seen you since the lake! Are you okay? You didn't get hurt by that monster thingy, did you?"

School was out for the summer, but that didn’t mean the faculty of the university stopped working the whole time. Especially her husband, who didn’t seem to ever enjoy not taking things super seriously. It was a cover job. He didn’t need to perform it perfectly.

Then again, Dain’s work ethic was one of the reasons why Opal had grown to love him, and why her kingdom ran as smoothly as it did despite her thirst for chaos.

“Don’t tell me you’re going to spend the entire summer locked up in this stuffy old office,” she said as she pushed open his door and stepped inside, still in her student glamour, just in case other faculty were around.

“Tell me, husband, how have you found the city so far? It’s been frightfully dull except for a few . . . choice moments, in my opinion. I’ll be honest, I’m surprised you followed me up here. Do you not trust me?” Opal smirked faintly, knowing neither of them 100% trusted each other. That’s how most things worked in the underground.

The door of the flower shop opened with a bang, apparently pushed by an unseen force. Opal stepped into the shop, hands on her hips as she looked around for the owner.

“Excuse me, who is the owner of this place?” she asked the small person arranging flowers in the display window. She took another glance around the store. “It’s . . . cute. But if they think putting a little greenery in people’s homes is going to make up for the way they paved over all the beautiful native greenery of the Feywild, they’d be wrong.”

“Ruby, come here,” Opal said, snagging her guard by the wrist, pulling her closer to her. “I know you’ve been busy, but I’d like some time with you if you don’t mind. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to talk, one on one. Clear your schedule, your Queen demands it.” She smiled, kissing the side of the faerie’s neck lightly.

“My love, you’ve been in this stuffy office for hours,” Opal said, languishing in the doorway dramatically. “Our bedroom holds so much more air and there are floor to ceiling windows we can open onto the balcony . . . you could use some fresh air. After all, why did we come up from the underground if not to bask in the warm sun and breathe in the clean air?”

“Zo! Zo, come here,” Opal called out, grabbing her daughter’s arm before she could completely pass her. “You’ve got a smudge on your cheek, dear, I can’t have you going out like that.” She licked her thumb before rubbing at the spot near Zoela’s temple, a spot of something that must’ve come off her hand or fingers while she pushed her hair back. “There. Now you’re presentable. Where are you off to in such a hurry anyway?”

“Ah, there you are Ruby,” Opal said as she approached her guard. “I’ve secured our entourage rooms at the local bed and breakfast. It’s rather small and quaint, but it will do for now. I don’t want to draw too much attention to ourselves by buying an ostentatious house, though I would prefer to not be surrounded by such commoners.” She glanced toward a passers-by with some disgust.

Opal hummed softly. “Power is subjective. A bird probably feels power over a mouse, even if a cat could eat it. So the cat had power over the bird, but then the dog kills the cat . . . whether it’s pathetic or not, to the person who perceives it, it’s power to them.” She shrugged.

“But I took that power away from the security man, so I will take that free drink, thank you,” she said with a winsome smile.

"I got one of the mushroom burgers!" Opal said, waving her own plate and nearly losing her burger to the ground. She fumbled for a moment before catching everything with a sheepish grin. "Caught it! It's fine. We're fine. We should definitely nab some food for later, though. Have you had this corn on the cob? It's so good."

the first bite was way more delicious than she could've ever expected to be. honestly, she didn't know what she was expecting but it wasn't what she tasted and that was a good thing. ❝ oh my gosh, opal, have you tried these? they're actually really good. ❞ raine looked around to see if there was anyone close listening in. ❝ if there's any leftover we should see if we can nab a couple to bring home for later. ❞
