Hope it's okay to add on with more union action! Philadelphia has a long history of being a strong union town, and in the last few years our museums and universities have been unionizing, striking, and winning. Currently, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, who just won their first contract after a 19 day strike and over two years of negotiations in October of last year, is dealing with the executive board going back on the contract. There was a clearly outlined agreement for loyalty bonuses on 5, 10, 15, and 20th anniversaries, and on July 1st, 2023 this plan should have gone into place. Now management is saying that only employees who reach a 5 year anniversary (specifically between 5 and 20 years) within the life of the contract will receive a bonus. This means that someone who reached five years on June 29th, 2023 would not receive a bonus. Additionally, the bonuses are intended stack, but according to management someone reaching their 15 year anniversary during the life of the contract would receive the same as someone reaching their 5 year.

The Philadelphia Zoo is coming close to the end of their contract and action is very likely to follow. Earlier this year Temple University' grad students and research assistants were on strike for 9 weeks. Basically check out your local unions, there is probably something going on. Talk about unions! Tell your friends or your parents or your coworkers (especially your coworkers) all about union actions near you.
