For Marian— if you could have any kind of pet, what would you want?

"Pets are more trouble than they're worth. You buy their food, you shovel their s___, and for what? A lick of affection once in a blue moon? Who needs it, I say."

There is a pillow in the corner of the cabin, covered in shed fur. Marian notices you looking.

"Alright, fine," she relents. "I do have a cat, as much as a cat can be had. He's not demanding, and he pays his own board. It's all mutually beneficial-like; the old mog gets regular food, and we get pest control."

You have a feeling that if you could see Marian's eyes, they'd betray a little more affection than her words. But that's all she's willing to give you, for now.
