Thoughts on the New York Special!
I never thought I’d see such an episode but here we are. I think I screamed a dozen times or more, I’m not even sure. But I have a sore, scratchy throat to show for it and I’m okay with that. Most of it was at how many times Adrien kept being not-just-a-friend and both secondhand embarrassment and pity for Marinette’s attempt to see him only as a friend kicked in. But I’ll start from the beginning. No, the voice actors aren’t different, the audio’s been manipulated and is pitched down! **Except Nino. Nino’s voice actor resigned and has been replaced**
Ladynoir friendship + a glimpse of their Astro forms? Heck yes!
Ms. Bustier having a baby was something I had a feeling about but can’t actually believe it’s happening and I’m just so happy for her. Best teacher award should go to her and her student’s reactions just prove that.
“Adrien, you’re our Sock Washington!”
this is his version of Marinette’s
“You’re our everyday Ladybug.”
Sad Adrien and trying-too-hard-to-be-just-friends-Marinette interact and she’ll do what she has to do to get him to go along.
Honestly, I think Marinette trying not to reveal her feelings is better than this, this is just painful to watch her try so hard. Dx
Sad Adrien not being able to fence properly so Kagami who he possibly? likely? is dating, considering she kissed him, asks what’s wrong.
You know, instead of what a good girlfriend/love interest/friend would do and try to sympathize and attempt to make him feel better, she pushes aside his feelings and makes it about her... Oh Kagami, this won’t bode well. Poor Adrien deserves better than being told he and his feelings aren’t as important. He gets plenty of that at home.
Absolutely love the attention Gorilla gets in this, it’s so cute.
LUKA IS THE BEST FRIEND EVER UGH. How many girls have a guy in their life that has feelings for them, yes, but still would do anything that would make her happy, even be with someone else? Who would go to lengths to make sure things work out how she wants them?
Okay, the whole plane scene before everyone fell asleep was intense. I can feel Marinette’s anxiety and desperation so hard, I feel so bad.
I also feel bad that Adrien sounded disappointed by her not sitting by him (and probably doesn’t quite understand why she won’t, either) as well as Ms. Mendeleiev knowing her students think less of her than Ms. Bustier and doesn’t like that.
AND also that both Marinette and Adrien for having to feel guilty for making a trip out of the country. :/ Nobody deserves it more than them.
Wow, that’s a lot of things to feel bad about early on.
Marinette’s luck really sucks on this trip, doesn’t it? Turbulence in the bathroom. Yikes. But of all people to notice her walk by, it has to be Adrien while they watch the beautiful sunset together. Of course it does. It’s like he has some sensor that knows when Marinette is sad or something. x3
Adrien, looking sweetly and IN LOVE at her: “You’ve got something, Marinette...”
“So-something?”
“Yeah, there. In your hair.”
....
Alya: I can’t decide if they’re the cutest people I know, or the most embarrassing.
Nino: I love Adrien, but he’s like a baby chick that just started cracking out of his egg.
I- They’re just so done 😂
Then you see more of Alya/Nino and their Operation New York plan and it’s freaking adorable, but you think Adrien’s done talking but OH NO there’s more
“...Well, what I meant to say was...thanks for managing to convince my father. *gives her a hug*”
Okay, first off
OH MY GOSH I CAN’T EVEN WITH THIS. THIS IS JUST SO SWEET AND CUTE AHHH THIS IS THE FIRST ADRIENETTE HUG EVER! I screamed so loud I just... my heart is so happy. ;~;
Second,
slyly grinning
IS THIS NERVOUS ADRIEN, I SEE? He tried to say it the first time but chickened out. 😉
Also, you cannot convince me that when they both went and sat back in their seats, anxious as the plane was getting attacked, that they would not be holding hands if Marinette had actually ended up sitting by him.
Aeon sees them together for ONE MINUTE. Just one. And she knows. To all the people that
still
somehow doubt that they’ll be together...what will it take for you to realize that they are?
Sabrina liking that boy makes me so happy, she actually gets some scenes that aren’t related to Chloe!
Alya: And you might make a friend. *elbows Mari*
Marinette: 😑
Hehehe the teasing’s not gonna stop, you set yourself up for this.
I’ve counted people referring to Marinette and Adrien as “friends” of some degree 21 times so far. Let’s see what it gets to at the end.
Class: We just got here but LET’S SNEAK OUT TO GO TO A PARTY....and almost get busted.
The sound effects in this are everything, I adore them. xDDD
The way Adrien smiled at Marinette when they had their backs to the door, and how his smile faded when he realized they weren’t alone. 😂
Jess: Ugh people in my room
Aeon: HAHA THEY’RE SO ADORABLE THIS IS THE BEST. I TOLD YOU THEY’RE MADE FOR EACH OTHER
Marinette: Is it a bird?
Adrien: Is it a plane?
Sabrina’s crush: No, it’s Hot Dog Dan!
Why do you have to get me with that xDD
Okay, but the girl saying “Go Sabrina!” made me happy too ugh. Just the fact that Sabrina came to America and people like her is just the best.
Highpitched!Nino: FINALLY, MY CHICKS WINGS ARE GROWING
Not that the show didn’t make me laugh before but dang, I keep laughing at this humor. It’s like a crack video mixed with the sweetest romance.
“OH! That’s the song we danced to at Chloe’s birthday party, remember?”
“Oh, yes, hahah”
looks at her sweetly, shyly
“Then...will you?”
ADRIEN, MY LOVE, I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT’S GOING THROUGH THAT PRETTY HEAD OF YOURS. So... you remember. And it makes you happy. And you, again, nervously ask her. To dance with you. Again.
You’ve looked at her with the most soft of expressions more times in under an hour than I’ve seen anyone look at someone
ever
. Uggggh the way he’s falling for her is just so sweet.
And I’ve lost count of how many “friends” there have been due to the overwhelming cuteness. I think 25?
The fact that Adrien and Marinette can’t get through an automated door. I’m wondering what’s causing that? The fact both have a Kwami with them? Is Aeon messing with them? I don’t really think the latter is happening so I’m puzzled but it’s hilarious.
“I don’t mind being stuck somewhere with a friend like you” with the most adorable expression on his face ever.
ADRIEN PLEASE, ARE YOU TRYING TO DESTROY ME WITH THIS?
Jess: And in order to save him...
Aeon: Don’t kidnap him, I LOVE him!
😂 I wanted Jess’s plan to work out so badly though.
Maybe next time.
Miraculous out here teaching American history. 👍 Totally forgot Lafayette was only 19 when he arrived in America and asked to become a general, but he had just turned 20 when he fought his first battle. The white powdered wig always threw me off of everyone’s real ages.
I think this is the closest Marinette and Adrien have transformed out in the open like this.
Ooof @ pissed off and sarcastic Ladybug.
Chat Noir: I was afraid of losing your trust!
Ladybug: Well I can’t trust you anymore, can I?!
Ooohh that hurts. That really hurts. And that distraction like that really went bad. Good thing Aeon’s not human. x.x I really do feel like them finding out their identities would solve more problems than it’d cause at this point.
I get that the situation was bad, but excuse me, they have no right to demand their Miraculouses. Ladybug’s the
Guardian
.
Knight Owl: “Stop right there, that’s an order.”
LB & CN: WE DON’T ANSWER TO YOU
Lol love the way they ran off and got away without being seen.
Sad and in pain Ladynoir. Wow, this whole scene feels so mature.
And Marinette’s reaction to Chat Noir renouncing Plagg and crying as he ran away hurt so much. I was not expecting all the angst!
Poor Adrien’s traumatized now. He knows he’s lucky she wasn’t human and things worked out, but he also knows that he came this close to Cataclysming Ladybug, and he couldn’t deal with that.
Liiri is so cute I want to see more of her! Very grateful she doesn’t end up in the hands of Gabriel for long.
But really Gabriel, it would’ve been smarter to take it to Paris than give it to a villain in New York where it ends up with a superhero. xD
Depressed Plagg is another level of ouch. Depressed Marinette and Adrien looking at each other like they’re about to cry is yet another.
Marinette about Chat Noir: He made his choice. What were we supposed to do?
Adrien: I wouldn’t have minded being stuck here a little longer with a friend like you.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why did you have to go there again?
And then she gasps and really looks like she’s going to burst into tears, and then he gets even
sadder. “My father’s right, I should’ve never come to New York.” Alya: “What is wrong with you, Marinette?! Couldn’t you see that he was just waiting for you to tell him to stay?” “He made his choice. What did you expect me to do?” “It doesn’t matter what I expected you to do! Who’s Adrien to you? A friend or more than a friend? There will never be a better time to be clear with yourself, Marinette! Do you want him to leave or do you want him to stay?”
Within minutes, Marinette said the same thing about both Chat Noir and Adrien. o.o
Also hold up. If what Alya’s saying is true, which very well could be considering how he went from looking sad but still smiling, to looking utterly crushed after saying that line to her and her reaction, and the fact he said it before... Along with every single thing he did the whole trip.... Are we missing something, here? At first I thought it’s just Adrien being Adrien but about to actually acknowledge his feelings, just not yet. Seeing just the trailer I thought it was gratitude maybe, but obviously this is much more than that. But is it possible at all that he already has and, considering how she’s told him she doesn’t have feelings for him more than once before, that he’s been hoping to drive her to say otherwise this entire time and find out if she actually really does have feelings for him? 🤔
Because dang that’d explain everything he’s been doing.
I know he’s hurting over what happened with Uncanny Valley and giving up his Miraculous and leaving Ladybug. But it
still
came down to him with Marinette, looking at her like that was his last bit of hope and happiness he wanted to hold onto and was dashed....
NOT OKAY.
Again, Marinette’s luck on this trip SUCKS so much what the heck, you can’t even let her phone have battery??
Her rushing after him in the pouring rain on a bike screaming for him to stay and then falling hard (oof mustn’t have felt good for Plagg and Tikki) to just lie there in the street whispering “Adrien I...love you,” broke me. It really did. It’s so beautiful and so sad and I just want them to be happy oh gosh. 😭
But please get out of the road sweetie, you’re going to get run over.
By the way, I think I’m at 29 times they referred to each other or others referred to them as friends. Not sure though, I lost count and my heart’s a mess.
So Majestia decided to just blow skyscrapers far through the city and into the water that would no doubt kill everyone inside... in New York City...where skyscrapers were literally destroyed in real life killing thousands? I really hope this isn’t supposed to be a kind of reference.
Also the President of the United States being a superheroine that’s in harms way interacting with supervillains that can do horrific things such as forcing her to spill national secrets or use her power from things such as mind control to control the nation, for example, probably isn’t the smartest thing to do. Cool for plot but dang that’s dangerous.
You know, like right now when he’s making her press the nuke button where a million missiles and bombs are getting ready to go.
“I don’t know if I can do this. I can’t imagine being Ladybug without...
him
.”
“I couldn’t bear to see the disappointment in her eyes.”
I’m not crying. This isn’t twisting my heart all up at all. X.x
But yes the action and Astro Chat! He looks so cool flying through the sky like that omg. He’s BAT CHAT
But the way she just ran and hugged him, saying never to do that to her again.
And how he returned that hug and she hugged him tighter and then wiped her tears away.
This is everything. Absolutely everything. I could watch this a thousand times and not be sick of it.
He also after this better know how much he truly means to her.
Hawk Moth: Ladybug, Chat Noir, if you don’t do as I ask, I will launch a nuclear rocket that will undoubtedly start World War III. If you don’t do as I ask, it will be on you.TICK TOCK TICK TOCK
Geez, you think he can’t get any crazier and he just does. How would another World War help him live happily ever after? Unless he could use two wishes to undo it once he got their Miraculous. Hm.
Majestia is like Captain Marvel because she’s the only other superhero I’m familiar with that could launch a rocket to the sun with her hands.
The animation in this is so beautiful. I haven’t said it yet, but some of the scenes are so breathtaking.
I’m sad that Aeon won’t remember they’re Ladybug and Chat Noir, but surely she’ll remember Adrien, Marinette, Ladybug, and Chat Noir right? x.x
And appreciation to Nadja Chamack for letting Parisans know Ladybug and Chat Noir didn’t abandon them, but just had serious issues to attend to elsewhere.
Wow there’s an ice sculpture/statue of sorts in New York of Ladybug and Chat Noir (along with Uncanny Valley and Eagle) now? Sweet!
Okay, I believe it’s 30 times now that “friend” is used. I may be off, I got really into it the second time watching when I was counting and it’s too late to be serious about it.
Hmm, Marinette can ask herself
the question
on her way back to Paris the following day. I’m assuming about how she feels and if she should still try to let him know her feelings?
Also that Adrien smile, knowing full well Marinette was responsible for that clip for him. Awwww x33
Ohh that ending I’m so looking forward to seeing more of Eagle, Uncanny Valley, and possibly that new superhero team with the new Miraculous.
This special was as if they took the best from S1-S3, then threw in a bunch of amazing new things that I couldn’t have thought would happen, and gave us such an amazing special. Also that it opened up things for the next special and S4! I don’t think I could’ve asked for much better. I’ve missed this show terribly and love that it’s back in a way.
Also terribly sorry for such a long post but I mean the thing was 52 minutes long after all. xD

Ep6, Chapter 9 (Part 2) & 10
Love Trial time! (warning: this is not a very good post, honestly. Ep6 is proving to be a struggle to write posts about, even this late into it...)
Eva and George are... in front of the mansion, I think? Eva’s clearly not happy with George and Shannon getting engaged, unsurprisingly.
Oh wait, no, they’re in front of the guesthouse, actually. CLOSE ENOUGH
“...Did you sleep with her? She told you she was pregnant to force you into a marriage, didn’t she?!” fucking OUCH
George states that he’s “a strong believe that chastity is to be preserved before marriage.” That matches up with their date in Ep2, so...
Eva asks why they got engaged, and George replies, “I asked her. She accepted. What more could be needed?” Eva disagrees, of course.
“What about her parents? Relationships between the two families? Are you some stray alley cat, or are you Ushiromiya George?!” Even putting aside the dramatic irony of this statement, it’s... interesting. I’m guessing Eva’s just talking in terms of general issues, as opposed to issues with Shannon x George.
George states his desire to “build his own country and castle from scratch” like Hideyoshi did, and Eva angrily replies that it wasn’t easy, and he was “often saved by luck and coincidence”. George replies, “And he got through it because he had a wonderful life partner by his side... you. Sayo is the kind of person who’ll support me and make me be reborn as an even stronger man. You’ve praised me for becoming the adult that I am, but that could never have happened without her.” Tohya loves Yasu, writes love letter to her in form of his forgeries, etc.
Eva asks if he plans on “betraying the feelings” of a woman they met with at a marriage meeting. He replies that even though the two of them went out (due to their - or at least his - parents’ insistence), they “never even looked at each other.” Eva objects, and George replies, “You want me to marry her because it will benefit you. You aren’t pushing that engagement for the sake of anyone but yourself.” SHOTS FUCKING FIRED
Eva starts crying and screaming about how she and Hideyoshi have always been thinking about what’s “best for George.” “If I didn’t care for you, we wouldn’t be having this fight! [...] Don’t worry, we won’t do anything bad to Shannon-chan. After all, it’s thanks to her that you’ve grown so much... We won’t forget that. So leave the rest to us... George...”
George turns his back, seemingly torn on what to do, then says, “Alright. I think that’s enough. All my life, you’ve done a great job raising me, and I’m grateful for that. When I have children and become a parent... I’ll become a parent like you. I’ll be the kind of parent most worthy of respect in the entire world, one who can truly fight for his children’s sake.”
“I think it’s about time you learned... to let go of your son, Mother.”
“Let’s forget that you’re my parent and let our true intentions ring clear... The reason you want to choose the person I marry... is for financial reasons, public appearances, and... so that you can posture in that still-continuing quarrel between you and your siblings. You have no other reason.” I’d forgotten just how few fucks George gives in this scene, damn. He declares that she’s “a wall, a trial, standing in the way of the future he’s trying to grasp.” “Now I’ll overcome the final barrier... you!!”
EVATRICE TIMEEEEEEEE
I don’t really have a lot to say about this sequence, other than yay fantasy battles.
Having said that - After getting beaten around a bit (okay, a lot), George stands up, saying, “I cannot count the number of things I’ve learned from Sayo. She taught me... courage and chivalry, how to be ambitious and witty and humorous, and just a little stylish. It’s ironic... Almost all of the things you say are so wonderful about me... didn’t come from you at all.”
A bit more fantasy battle (now with martial arts!), and George kills Evatrice... then straightens his glasses and says, “I know you’re somewhere over there, Gaap.” lol
“I have something to ask of you.” Gaap responds kinda flippantly, and George’s response... well: “The threat in his voice held the solemn presence of a king who could control demons. That presence made Gaap gulp, and she licked her lips before bowing respectfully to his back.” I don’t remember the parallels between George and Kinzo being commented on much outside of Ep4, so this is pretty interesting, to say the least.
“I like hot guys, but I like monarchs even more.” lol gaap
At George’s request, she moves Eva’s body to the VIP room in the mansion, and leaves Evatrice’s staff behind. George steps on it to launch it into the air, and catches it in his hand, whereupon it disperses into gold butterflies. GETTING A LOT OF EP4 VIBES HERE
In the gameboard meta, George declares his “part” to be over, and Jessica is shocked that he decided to go after Eva for the love trial.
He replies, “It’s the person who loves you first in the world... and the last one you have to separate yourself from. ...That’s what it means to leave your home. This is the courage I need to show to take Sayo as my wife.”
Ah, right, the nature of the trial is mentioned here. “So that the love of the pair will stand true, offer up the life of one person by your own hands.”
The narrative compares it to Beato’s test in Ep4, which is... interesting! I hadn’t thought of it that way, but I suppose it kinda is similar, just with “your own life” and “your lover’s life” automatically excluded (well, except in Battler’s case, but).
“For the versions of themselves to whom the game board was the only world, this was a tragic parricide... but to these ones who stood around the game board in this witch’s smoking room, it was nothing more than a movement of the pieces, representing George’s will to overcome his parents.” meta gonna meta
After a moment’s hesitation (during which Zepar and Furfur almost declare George and Shannon the winners), Jessica volunteers to go next. “Alright, I’ll do it... I’ll show you that I’m serious about Kanon-kun!!”
Meanwhile, during a break in the family conference, Kyrie’s wandered off to a hallway on the second floor of the mansion. “I need to regain my spirit and support my husband, even if I’m not allowed to speak. ...That’s the duty I’ve won.”
HI JESSICA
Ooh, that’s interesting. Jessica decided to basically wander around the mansion and kill the first person she runs into, and Furfur describes it as “Jessica’s roulette of fate.” battler u aren’t a very subtle writer are u
...Though she’s still not committed to actually going through with killing anyone, so she ends up asking Kyrie for advice. “Sounds nasty... Love that can only succeed by using the others as a footstool.”
“I think I see where you’re going with this... Something like this, right? ‘How far is a person allowed to take advantage of others to find happiness’?” Ooof. That’s... painfully accurate - not for Jessica, but for Yasu. The question she’s constantly asking herself, wracked with guilt over being torn between George, Shannon, and Battler...
...Though, granted, Yasu’s circumstances are a bit different to Jessica’s here, but.
And then the music cuts out, as Kyrie tells Jessica that, as painful as it might be to have to cut short George and Shannon’s relationship, not fighting for her own love will be even worse.
Ange cuts in, mentioning finding Kyrie’s notebook sometime after the incident. “It was... practically a book of curses... it cleared up several questions I had vaguely felt back when I was six.”
“When I was six, it seemed as though my parents were very close and had no problems. ...And though I thought it odd that Onii-chan lived separately even though he was in our family, I accepted it as the way things were.”
As was shown in Ep5, it’s explained that Kyrie was effectively Rudolf’s “business partner.” “Though she served as Dad’s right-hand person, she slyly got rid of the other women in the shadows... It was only a matter of time before Mom would succeed in her love.”
Kyrie explains to Jessica that Asumu showed up, and was “good at triggering Rudolf’s protective instinct.” “Bit by bit, Rudolf had started to need a woman who could stay quiet and soothe him... without making him think about anything complicated.”
“I am ruthless and intellectual. Rational and economical. ...In a plank of Carneades situation, I would push the other person off without hesitating. ...I thought that was the kind of partner suitable for him.” kyrie gonna kyrie
“Yes, I did get the position of his business partner... But before I knew it, Rudolf-san had grown a need for a mental partner, someone who could heal his heart. Though I foolishly claimed to be the intellectual one, I never noticed.”
And then both Kyrie and Asumu became pregnant, though Kyrie wasn’t even aware of it herself until after Rudolf and Asumu had already gotten married. “Once she got her hands on Rudolf-san, she didn’t let go.”
Kyrie reflects that she at least wanted Rudolf to acknowledge her child - which he was apparently willing to do, going as far as visiting her in the hospital even though Asumu was giving birth on the same day. She calls him an awful man, and... I can’t say I really disagree, to be honest!
Except... she supposedly ended up having a stillbirth instead, while Asumu gave birth to Battler. In hindsight, the answer’s literally right there, isn’t it? We get it stated in red in Ep4 that Asumu isn’t Battler’s blood mother, and both here and in Ep3 it’s stated that Kyrie and Asumu had the same delivery date. Coupled with how strongly Battler and Ange resemble each other... yeah.
“Kyrie had fallen from Rudolf’s partner to his second wife... and then, unable to even give birth to the bond of a child... she tumbled down... to merely being his mistress. I can’t imagine... how much she must’ve hated Asumu and that kid... Battler.” Ange mentions that she was (understandably) shocked to find out just how much Kyrie likely hated Battler.
Back on the board, Kyrie tells Jessica that she only regrets one thing. “It’s my arrogance I regret. ‘Rudolf-san is already mine, so I’m completely safe... I’ll never lose to that Asumu girl.’”
Kyrie warns Jessica against being naive about her love, and that the regrets she’ll have if she doesn’t take it seriously enough “will make her crawl through hell.” Jessica is, understandably, speechless upon hearing of how harsh the “true form of love” is.
“Right now... I would do anything to keep Rudolf-san by my side. [...] If he wished it, I might not even hesitate at murder.” KYRIE GONNA KYRIE
Aaaand Kyrie flat-out says that she would’ve killed Asumu herself, if she hadn’t died on her own. Battler, are you having fun writing your mother like this...?
Kyrie laughs a bit and apologizes, not meaning to scare Jessica like she had. BIT LATE FOR THAT I THINK
“I don’t know what your love has been like, Jessica-chan... but if you have a rival and neither is willing to back down, you can’t let yourself become complacent. If you do, you’ll end up like me.”
“...For the sake of love, a woman should be willing to kill at least once in her life.” KYRIE NO
“Love really is like playing with fire. Anyone can play easily and lightheartedly... but when you mess up and get burned, that scar stays with you your whole life.”
I just want to let that line stand on its own.
Kyrie turns to leave, wishing Jessica good luck... and narrowly avoids getting her face smashed in. She’s quite nonchalant about Jessica trying to kill her, but... y’know, Kyrie. Who’s surprised at this point?
“Come now. If you had come from the guesthouse to get a book from your room, you wouldn’t have come through this hallway in that direction.” kyrie holmes
More fantasy battles, now with math! I do find it interesting, though, that George and Jessica ask for help from Gaap and Ronove, respectively, given Ep4.
At any rate, Jessica kills Kyrie in Krauss’s study, gets angry at Zepar and Furfur, etc. etc... And starts crying as she asks Kanon if she did anything wrong. Jessica...
Elder joins in on complimenting her. “Very impressive, Jessica! That ‘closed room murder’ just now was wonderful enough to fascinate even a witch like myself.”
Zepar and Furfur dance around a bit again. “Come, speak up!! Who is next?! Who will take the next trial?!”

Ok this took me all afternoon. Technical difficulties but I finally finished! I’m really happy about it lol.
Nomad Steve is my favorite Steve look. Always will be.
Still hate Ross.
“Earth’s best defender, huh? You should’ve called him that when he wasn’t out there on a space donut. Would’ve given him more material for his spank bank.”
Ooof. I feel the tension already 😬
God, I love you.
Oh my god oh my god oh my god
“Y/n,” he says instead.
She nods at him, “Captain.”
Oooof ouch ouch ouch. But well deserved. Sorry Steve.
Her eyes flick over to Natasha and a sweet, whimsical smile breaks out her face. “Natalie.”
“Oh for Christ’s sake! It’s been almost a decade, Stark. Will you ever let it go?” Natasha chides with a smile of her own. Her words hold no heat whatsoever. She opens up her arms as Y/n rushes over—passing him by without care—and engulfs her in a hug.
Her calling Natasha, Natalie. And their hug, ugh I’m melting🥺 I missed them together.
Steve’s got it baaaad. Ooofh
“C-3PO”
Oh my god. Now I wanna watch Star Wars
And because clearly his brain has decided to stop working he says, “Uh. Um. Wh—who’s shirt i—is that?”
His stuttered question gets her attention easily but for a while instead of answering she looks at him. Then she looks down at the shirt. And then she looks back up at him, her face impassive. “Someone who didn’t lie to me about how my family was murdered.”
Ooof, the pettiness i love it. He really should have seen it coming.
Steve hates every second of it. She’s so young, she’s lost so much. But with Vision she’d found something he himself had not too long ago; she’d found a home. And unlike him—who had ruined it all by his lonesome—the world was trying to snatch it away from her.
Thanos & his children being after Vision for his stone will always break my heart. Wanda and Vision deserved better.
He remembers how he felt like he was being crushed along with the phone as she broke it because he wanted a picture of the day… It had been a perfect sorta day. He remembers how he’d kissed her cheek as she clicked the second one, the way that made her blush. He remembers how he’d kissed her lips when they’d stepped out of the restaurant. Shit. He remembers it like it was yesterday. But it wasn’t.
Ooh the picture and the date. Painful callback to simpler times.
“You ripped out the star,” she says, as he comes to stand next to her. Her eyes stay fixed on the photograph.
“Didn’t think I deserved it,” he admits, his hands coming up subconsciously to caress the blank space on his suit while he looks at the photo too.
“Ripped out the logo too,” she notes.
“Didn’t think I deserved that either.”
“You don’t.”
Stick and stones may break his bones but Y/n Stark will freakin' annihilate him.
Well. What else is she supposed to say and how else is she supposed to feel? He lied to her and that’s a whole gut wrenching level of heartbreaking.
Tony didn’t change a thing, he realizes.
Would he have been able to? I mean from the sounds of it he lost both people who mean a lot to him.. if I were in his shoes I don’t think I’d be able to walk into a space where said people inhabited together and change or remove anything.
“My life, my secrets never had anything to do with you.”
“How can you say when you knew Bucky was alive all along?”
Woah. Not cool steve. She didn’t remember his face. She didn’t know that The Winter Soldier was Bucky.
“I told you, I didn’t remember him!” She defends, her voice rising. “I repressed it. I repressed his face as hard as I possibly could. I couldn’t see him as anything more than the monster HYDRA created o—or I wouldn’t—” She cuts herself off with a shaky breath.
Steve’s an asshole.
Yes. Yes he is. I love Steve but that was an asshole move.
Shaking his head to get rid of his anger, he takes a step in her direction. “I know, doll,” he tries to soothe her but she takes a step back again, maintaining the distance. Sighing, “I know. I’m sorry. I didn’t—I just needed to look out for him. I’m sorry. He’s the only family I’ve got.”
Damn it ,Steve. I don’t understand that..like I do but I don’t ya know? Bucky is the only family he’s got, which is true in everything we see in the movies but yet he leaves Bucky, he leaves the life he had to go back to the 40s the first real chance he gets..
“Howard and Maria were mine.” Her jaw clenches again. “I never had a family before. Ever. But they let me in, accepted me with open arms—nightmares, shady past, untamed powers and all. They accepted me.” She looks at him, “And I deserved to know what happened to them.”
Yup. Yes she did. So did Tony. I feel like no matter what. No matter how Tony or her reacted they deserved to know.
“You can’t blame me or Tony for the way we reacted. We found out from Zemo, of all people, that our family didn’t just die. No.” She takes a step forward with so much force, he can’t help but move back. “They were assassinated by HYDRA, they were murdered on the side of the fucking road like they were nothing more than yesterday’s trash.” She regards him with so much disgust, it sends a chill down his spine. “How else were we supposed to react?”
Exactly! Like come on Steve. If the information of how Howard and Maria died would’ve came from Steve when he found out, yeah it would’ve hurt it was gonna hurt no matter what but it would’ve been better to hear from Steve rather than someone who was trying to get between them all. I get the hesitation to tell them but they deserved to know.
“….I gave you all the parts of me that I possibly could. I love you, with everything I have. And if you sat me down and told me about it, I would’ve understood. I would have understood and I would’ve made Tony understand too. We wouldn’t have been happy about it… But we would’ve understood… all you had to do was give us a chance,” she looks at him, wiping away her tears. “But you didn’t trust us… you didn’t trust me.”
I feel like Steve should’ve known that about her.. that she would’ve tried to understand. She would’ve done what she could to Tony to understand. It kinda hurts that he didn’t trust her or them enough to give them the benefit of the doubt.
“I thought it was the only way to protect him,” he admits, head hanging low in shame.
“Bullshit,” she contends, making him look up. “You didn’t lie to protect Barnes, Steven.” She takes two steps forward and the wrath radiating off of her makes him take two steps back. “You lied to protect yourself.”
“…. but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a coward. Because that’s what it was—cowardice that had gotten him here, estranged from the woman he loved, from one of his closest friends. All because he didn’t want to rock the boat… All because he was too afraid to be honest and put his faith in them. He didn’t want to risk it and lose them, lose her. Funny how that worked out.”
You ever read something in a story and you’re just speechless at it because it was written so well that the words just kind of escape you? Cause I’m having a moment like that right now.

“I'm not looking for forgiveness. And I'm way past asking permission.” Steve states, staring down intently at the hologram of Ross. “Earth just lost her best defender. So we're here to fight.” He takes a step down the stairs, leveling himself with Ross. “And if you wanna stand in our way... we'll fight you, too.” It’s a warning just as much as it’s a promise.
Ross turns around, looking at Rhodey, “Arrest them.”
“All over it,” Rhodey replies easily before swiping up his hand and getting rid of the hologram altogether. “That's a court-martial,” Rhodey states, looking at them. But Steve knows Rhodey just a little bit better than that. And he’s right. Cause a smile breaks onto his face as he steps forward, “It's great to see you, Cap.” He extends his hand.
Steve smiles too. Walking down the stairs, he shakes it. “You too, Rhodey.”
Natasha behind him follows suit. She and Rhodey share a soft hug with kind smiles.
Steve feels… Well, he feels a lot. The world is in danger and a threat is coming, bigger than any they’ve faced before. But he also finds a sense of comfort in being back here, at the compound. It was his home for a while… It was a good home.
Speaking of home, a voice chimes in from his right, from the corner of the room. It’s almost as if she was waiting for her cue.
“Earth’s best defender, huh? You should’ve called him that when he wasn’t out there on a space donut. Would’ve given him more material for his spank bank.”
God, I love you.
“Y/n,” he says instead.
She nods at him, “Captain.”
Ouch.
She was always good at that; spotting the weak spots. And it’s not like he didn’t have it coming. But ouch regardless.
“Not a Captain anymore,” he clarifies, sheepishly.
“Rogers then,” the tone of her voice and the expression on her face are so painfully calm, one would be forgiven to think she wasn’t drawing a full-out assault on him. But she is. And it’s working. Cause Steve has been shot before. He’s been a bunch of times, and that shit never hurt half as much as this. That seems to be her mission though. She’s succeeding quite spectacularly.
“Never,” Y/n replies with a smirk as she pulls away. She turns to look behind them. “Birdman,” she exclaims happily, walking up the stairs.
Steve’s eyes follow her every move like a man possessed. He hasn’t seen her since—well, since Siberia. From what he knows no one else has either.
Now that he can see her, he cannot bring himself to look away even for a second.
“How’s it going, hotshot?” Sam greets with a smile.
“Same old, same old,” she replies nonchalantly like the world being in danger isn’t new. For them it really isn’t. “Hey Wanda,” she says, her tone much softer. She places a kiss on Wanda’s temple, giving her a hug which Wanda reciprocates heartily. “Missed you, kid.”
“Missed you too,” Wanda confesses quietly as they pull away.
“C-3PO,” she grins at Vision.
“I still detest that name, Miss Stark,” Vision states, but he’s smiling too.
She has that effect on you. Makes you want to smile. She made him smile all the time… before he went and screwed it up.
“I still detest you calling me ‘Miss Stark’,” she says, leaning down and assessing the damage on his torso. “It’s a two way street, my friend.” Her assessment complete, she looks around at the group. “Well, you guys look like, ugh—”
“Crap,” Rhodey completes for her. She clicks her finger at him in agreement as he continues, “Must've been a rough couple of years,” he adds.
“Yeah, well, the hotels weren't exactly five star,” Sam answers from where he stands, holding Vision up.
And since it’s been a day filled with surprises,
“Uh, I—I think you look great.” All their heads turn to the other end of the room, to see Bruce walk in and stand, fidgeting nervously with his hands. “Uh... heh... Yeah. I—I'm back.”
“Hi, Bruce,” Natasha says.
There’s a (very) pregnant pause.
“Nat,” is all Bruce says.
Behind them Sam whispers, “This is awkward.”
And damn. Steve has to agree.
Apparently so does Y/n, cause she snickers a bit before walking down the stairs to stand next to Rhodey, “We’ve got a lot to talk about. Let’s move this inside, shall we?”
But then and only then Steve notices it. He’d seen it already, obviously but with the shock and awe of seeing her overtook the part of his brain that usually does the thinking. Because now he finally sees it. He sees her jeans, her hoodie—that seems like one of the ones that were usually left around the compound—and he sees her shirt… that doesn’t seem like her shirt at all.
With that, she walks out of the room, passing Bruce.
Forget being shot, this hurts worse than that time she dropped a building on him.
He looks at Natasha, “I should’ve seen that coming…?” It’s something between a question and a statement.
Before she can respond though, Sam chimes in from behind them, “Yeah man! From like a mile away!”
Yeah, he should have.
But he couldn’t help himself.
Shit.
They all make their way into the next room, where Y/n and Bruce stand around the table, pulling up holograms and debriefing them. They tell the group about Thanos and the oncoming storm.
“So we gotta assume they're coming back, right?” Rhodey asks from opposite him.
“Oh, they are definitely coming back,” Y/n answers grimly, as she jumps up to seat herself on the table, pulling up one leg to her chest while the other dangles.
“And they can clearly find us,” Wanda surmises from where she stands in front of the kitchen.
“We need all hands on deck. Where's Clint?” Bruce asks, standing in the center of the room, looking around at them.
“After the whole Accords situation, he and Scott took a deal. It was too tough on their families. They're on house arrest,” Natasha explains from behind him.
“Who's Scott?” Bruce asks.
“Ant-Man,” Steve tells him, his hand gripping onto the chair in front of him.
“There's an Ant-Man and a Spider-Man?” Bruce balks. Sam walks past behind him, face stern, fidgeting with a ball in his hands. He takes a seat on a chair next to Wanda. Rhodey, though, just nods in response to Bruce’s question.
“Okay, look…” Bruce continues, “Thanos has the biggest army in the universe. And he is not gonna stop until he—he gets…” He hesitates, his ferocity failing. His eyes flicker around until they look up at Vision who’s leaning against the wall a couple steps away from Steve. “Vision's Stone,” Bruce finishes.
“Well then, we have to protect it,” Natasha states plainly, stepping up.
“No, we have to destroy it,” Vision cuts in. All heads turn to look at him. “I've been giving a good deal of thought to this entity in my head, about its nature. But also, its composition.” He turns to walk towards Wanda. “I think if it were exposed to a sufficiently powerful energy source, something very similar to its own signature, perhaps…” his hands come to rest on Wanda’s shoulders, “its molecular integrity could fail.”
“Like you said,” Bruce chimes in, pointing at Y/n.
“It was a theory,” she defends. She looks at Wanda and Vision, “I was not suggesting we kill Vision.”
Wanda’s jaw clenches. “Destroying the stone means hurting you. We're not having this conversation.” There is a finality in her words.
“Eliminating the stone is the only way to be certain that Thanos can't get it,” Vision urges softly.
“That's too high a price,” Wanda counters.
Shaking his head, he takes her face gently in both hands, “Only you have the power to pay it.” Wanda walks away, from him, distress clear on her face.
Steve hates every second of it. She’s so young, she’s lost so much. But with Vision she’d found something he himself had not too long ago; she’d found a home. And unlike him—who had ruined it all by his lonesome—the world was trying to snatch it away from her.
“It’s the fate of the universe,” Vision reasons.
“Fate of universe, fate of the universe,” Y/n mutters to herself, running a hand through her hair. “Who the fuck cares?” She asks rhetorically, now addressing the group. “The universe can go fuck itself silly at the rodeo.” She jumps off the table, standing up straight. “The universe doesn’t matter. All that matters is this tiny little planet… the people in this tiny little room… the people who used to be my team,” her voice almost breaks. His eyes are affixed to her. How can’t they be? She’s breathtaking. Her mere presence demands attention. And he’s here to give it willingly. Always.
He doesn’t get to see her vulnerable often. She projects a sense of calm. Either that or relentless charm. But she’s vulnerable now. There's a threat knocking at their door and her brother is gone and Steve is… well he’s Steve, and she’s vulnerable. He knows her, though. He knows her well enough to know she hates crying in front of people. She freaking loathes it.
So, she collects herself and looks up at Vision. “And you’re a part of it,” she continues, taking a step towards him. “You’re not a lamb for us to slaughter, not a virgin for us to sacrifice. You’re part of this team. And we protect our own.”
“Thanos threatens countless lives,” Vision argues. “One life cannot stand in the way of defeating him.”
“But it should,” Steve proclaims. He looks up at Vision then. “We don't trade lives, Vision.”
Vision walks towards him, he does the same. “Captain, 70 years ago, you laid down your life to save how many millions of people? Tell me, why is this any different?”
Steve exhales, ready to argue, but before he has a chance, Bruce cuts in, “Because you might have a choice.” Bruce walks towards them, “Your mind is made up of a complex construct of overlays. J.A.R.V.I.S., Ultron, Tony, me, the Stone. All of them mixed together. All of them learning from one another.”
“You're saying Vision isn't just the stone?” Wanda asks from behind them. He can hear the hope in her voice.
Bruce turns to answer her, “I'm saying that if we take out the stone, there's still a whole lot of Vision left. Per—perhaps the best parts.”
“Can we do that?” Natasha cuts in.
“Not me. Not here,” Bruce replies thoughtfully.
“You better find someone, and somewhere fast. Ross isn't exactly just gonna let you guys have your old rooms back,” Rhodey warns them.
Well, Steve might just have a solution.
“I know somewhere,” he tells them.
They all disperse, getting themselves ready to board the jet.
It’s in the small moment of calm, a short delicate calm when he finds himself in the same room as Y/n.
He notices the discarded jeans, hoodie, and the shirt, laid off to the side as he enters the small room... Their room.
She’s in a suit now. One he hasn’t ever seen before. Her eyes are fixed ahead on the photo of them framed on the wall. Steve remembers the photo, it’s from their first date. It was right after her and Natasha’s statement to the Senate about what happened at the Triskelion. It was right after he found out about Bucky.
They were at a Thai place. She’d taken it upon herself to strike off all the things from his list in the little red notebook in the span of 7 hours she had before Tony landed from his vacation and grounded her for not letting him know about the shit show. They had to retake it, cause the first one they took was on her phone which she had crushed by stomping on it mercilessly when Tony had called her to shout like a furious parent.
He remembers it like it was yesterday. He remembers how stunning she looked in her suit. He remembers giggling about the urine packs on display at the National Air and Space Museum. He remembers dancing with her at the disco, bodies grinding, lips crushed together. He remembers her singing the songs long after they’d left and seated themselves at the restaurant. He remembers coughing his lungs out when he took a bite of her tom yum goong.
He remembers her asking him about Bucky, and looking back now, knowing what he knows, it couldn’t have been easy for her to listen. But she did. She listened and smiled and listened some more.
He remembers Tony calling her and screaming.
He can’t help but look at her. “Your suit though…” He begins, trying to change the topic. “It looks good.” He turns to her.
She finally tears her eyes away from the photo to look down at herself. “It’s called Excalibur Ain’t Shit,” she informs, finally turning to look at him. When he cocks his brow in question, she adds, “Tony made it… and named it.”
He nods in understanding. “That makes sense.”
She begins to move around the room, assessing it. As his eyes follow her, he assesses it too. Everything… seems to be exactly how they left it.
Tony didn’t change a thing, he realizes.
It’s a piercing sort of melancholy, to look around and see the vestiges of a life he once had—they once had, together.
He can spot the fragments of them all around the room like they were here yesterday. He can spot the multiple ring marks on the bedside table from where she used to leave her morning milkshakes ignoring all the times Steve asked her to use a coaster. He can spot the half-opened closet that always stayed that way because neither of them remembered to slide it close completely. He can spot the scratches on the floor from the time they were so hungry and needy for each other that neither could wait to get to the bed or remove all the tactical gear. His belt had made those marks on the floor as she rode him off the edge. He can spot the dip on the bed in the middle where they slept together that night, every night—cocooned, protected, slotted together as one. It looks like they were here just yesterday, but they weren’t.
He can spot the fragments and it hurts so much worse because they are both here again now, and she won’t even look at him.
Her back is facing him as she looks out the window.
“Y/n—” He tries.
“Don’t,” she cuts him off.
But he can’t just not.
“You don’t even know what I was going to say,” he argues.
She turns to him then. “You were going to apologize.” She huffs. “I don’t want it. I don’t want any of it.”
“We’re going to war… Take it from someone who’s been there; if we don’t talk about this now, we might never get another chance.” He’s pleading. This is a plea. A desperate last-ditch effort of a man at the brink of a battle he might not return from.
“You wanna talk about it?” She asks, arms flailing. “We can talk about it till the cows come home… or well Thanos does.” She looks up at him. “We can talk about it ad nauseam... I just don’t want your fake apology, is all.”
“It’s not fake, doll. I am sor—”
“Would you do it again?” Her jaw clenches, hard and if looks could kill, Steve would already be 10 feet under.
He wants to say no. But Steve doesn’t lie… Well, usually. He doesn’t lie unless he has to.
But his silence is answer enough, it seems.
“That’s what I thought,” she chides.
He takes a step towards her, she takes a step back.
Damn it.
“Just because I’d do anything to protect Bucky doesn’t mean I don’t regret hurting you—” A hollow chuckle escaping from her lips cuts him off again.
“You didn’t lie to protect Barnes.”
“Why else would I do it?”
With hands on her hips, she shakes her head in disapproval, looking down at her feet. “I don’t fucking know, Steven. But it wasn’t for Barnes.”
Steven.
Steven.
Shit.
He takes another step towards her and she takes another step back.
That small action shouldn’t hurt as much as it does.
“You think I should have told Tony? Do you think he would have reacted any other way than he did back in Siberia?” He rebukes.
“We’re not talking about Tony.” Her eyes are brutal when they look back up at him. “We’re talking about us.” She takes a step towards him finally. But the anger in the action is enough to make Steve flinch and stumble back. She, however, remains relentless. “We shared everything, a room, a bed, a goddamn life. You owed it to me, to be honest about thi—”
And that irks Steve more than it should.
“I owed you honesty?” He asks, confounded. “I owed you honesty? Me? I never knew a damn thing about you that you didn’t feel like sharing until and unless there was a life-threatening crisis around the corner.”
She looks at her, incredulous. “Are you seriously comparing those two things? Seriously?”
He exhales in frustration. “No. I am saying you can’t just expect me to trust you with information like that when you never had the courtesy to do the same.”
“My life, my secrets never had anything to do with you.”
“How can you say when you knew Bucky was alive all along?”
“Howard and Maria were mine.” Her jaw clenches again. “I never had a family before. Ever. But they let me in, accepted me with open arms—nightmares, shady past, untamed powers and all. They accepted me.” She looks at him, “And I deserved to know what happened to them.”
He takes a second, a brief second. And then his jaw clenches too. “You dropped a building on us when you found out.”
She clicks her tongue in disapproval. “On you.”
“What?”
“I dropped a building on you. Not him.”
Oh shit.
“That was—”
She cuts him off. “Don’t get me wrong, he was tag-teaming Tony with you, so yeah, I was pissed at him. But you… If Tony hadn’t stopped me, you would’ve been a distant memory.” His mouth falls open. He doesn’t know whether to be relieved at the knowledge that she doesn’t despise Bucky or to start running in the opposite direction as fast as he can, stumbling in fear. Cause the rage in her voice is evident as she continues, “You can’t blame me or Tony for the way we reacted.
Mustering up his courage he says, “How can you say all that, then turn around and ask me to have told you before?”
She rolls her eyes. “You’re missing the damn point, Steven. The information was going to be fucking painful anyways... But if it came from you, I would have understood… I would have—”
“How was I supposed to know that, Y/n?” He asks. “I barely know you. I’ve been with you for years. We shared a life, right? That’s what you said. We shared a life and I didn’t even know you.”
“But you do know me, Steve!” She argues, taking another step towards him, which only pushes him back further. Her force is unrivaled. She’s always been this way; unrivaled.
“You know that I hate coffee, so you always made me milkshakes in the morning. You know that I have an unhealthy obsession with Cinnamon Toast Crunch so you always bought extra when you ran out for groceries. You know sometimes the only way to calm me down at times is to recite movie dialogues so you memorized the speech from ‘Fight Club’.” She runs a hand over her face, “You also know that I helped you find him. I helped you find Barnes because despite what HYDRA made him do to me, I was sane enough to realize he was just a victim.” Her voice breaks at the end. “He was a victim… just like me.”
Then he hears a sniffle. And that breaks him apart. Because when he looks up at her, there are tears rushing down her face and Steve realizes he’s the one that put them there.
It’s a rare thing, to make her cry. He promised her the last time she did that he’d punch the lights of whoever made her cry again. Funny how that worked out.
“Doll—” He reaches out and she moves away. “I wasn’t—I didn’t—”
He just wants to wipe away her tears. That’s all he wants. He’ll take the punishment, he’ll walk through fire if he has to. But right now, he just wants to hold her. Just once.
“You didn’t know my past, but you knew my present. You knew all the parts about me that actually fucking mattered. I gave you all the parts of me that I possibly could.
She isn’t wrong. So what the hell can Steve say to counter that?
“I thought it was the only way to protect him,” he admits, head hanging low in shame.
“Bullshit,” she contends, making him look up. “You didn’t lie to protect Barnes, Steven.” She takes two steps forward and the wrath radiating off of her makes him take two steps back. “You lied to protect yourself.”
He balks.
His first reaction is to shout back, to deny it. To tell her she could not be more wrong. But then he meets her eyes. He meets her eyes and he sees the tears. Then he grasps it. Then he understands.
They would tell you that Steve Rogers wasn’t a coward, that Steve Rogers never ran away from a fight. And they’d be right about the last half. He never would walk away from a fight, ever. He was brave but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a coward. Because that’s what it was—cowardice that had gotten him here, estranged from the woman he loved, from one of his closest friends. All because he didn’t want to rock the boat… All because he was too afraid to be honest and put his faith in them. He didn’t want to risk it and lose them, lose her. Funny how that worked out.
“Can I fix it?” He asks, his voice almost a whisper.
She laughs, a hollow, broken little thing. “I don’t know, Steven. Can you?”
Before he can answer—
“Um… guys, we’re kinda ready to roll…” Sam chimes in from the door, from behind Steve. “I’d give y’all some more time but, um, Ross is gonna be on our ass any minute now. So—”
“Yeah yeah,” Y/n replies, collecting herself as if she’s collecting the pieces of her broken heart. Shaking her head, she lets out a breath. She looks up then, passes him by, their shoulders brushing as she does. “Let’s go, Birdman,” she calls out to Sam as she leaves down the hall.
“I was wrong,” Sam grumbles to himself. “This is awkward.” He walks away too.
Leaving Steve behind amidst the remnants of what life he’d built.
It’s only after they board the jet and set upon their course to Wakanda that Steve realizes she told him she loves him. Not loved. Loves. Present tense.
"Fuck."

' “Strap in, folks, we’ve got a weird one,” Garcia says cheerily, handing Spencer a paper folder as everybody else opens their tablets. '
I'm totally having a moment here!! I already had the inside scoop that the other BAU members would be involved in this, why is the thought of how incredible a run in with Garcia and Dean would be just now occurring to me?!!! They would be fantastic together!!!
' This feeling (betrayal, his brain supplies helpfully) is becoming a little too familiar, lately. '
Ouch, that's brutal.
' “Quoting me back to me doesn’t seem fair,” Spencer grumbles. '
Lol, it is a very irritating feeling, having someone use your own words against you. Like, hellooo, that advice was for you, not me!
' “Whenever you’ve made a friend on your own, how’s that gone for you, huh? Meg, Ruby, Amy… two demons, a monster, and now a fucking Fed?” '
😬😬😬 There is some validity there…
' He knows it’s cruel, but he lashes out anyway: '
Ooof, this is all bringing back vivid memories of watching this unfold on the show. Also, and this is probably just me waaay stretching because it's so new and fresh in my mind still, but this line and most of Spencer's inner thoughts during this spat is really making a lyric from one of Taylor Swift's new songs pop into my mind: And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad, I have a lot of regrets about that
' “That’s what friends do, right?” '
Oh man, getting the full context of that line now, my heart 😭
' Everybody thinks they have a reason, Sam, whether angels told him the guy was guilty, or… Satan was possessing them, or… a talking dog told them the meaning of life.” '
HA! Still loving this bit. He's so ironically spot on and he doesn't even know. I so can't wait for the moment they actually find out the truth!
' There’s a stunned pause, while everybody tries to digest that news, until Emily breaks the silence with a succinct, “What in the ever-loving fuck is happening.” '
IT'S HERE!!!
' “I’ll trust that you’re not lying if you trust that I won’t run,” '
Oh my feels. I adore these boys together so much. Just like was explored in Quitting, there's just such a perfectly befitting kindred spirit between them.
' “Yeah. Sure, kid. A party trick.” '
Okay Rossi, I see you Sir...
' Garcia is sneakily taking a picture of them. '
She's the best. That is all.
' “What the almighty shitfire,” Emily breathes, '
Lol! I'm completely living for her in this! I can see her face so clearly 😂
' “I guess. I won two thousand dollars today, actually. I… I gave it to a prostitute,” Spencer admits. He adds hastily, “Not for sex.” '
The randomness…..golden.
This was incredible. The two worlds have no right being able to mesh together the way they did so seamlessly, but they really do and it strangely feels just as natural as the beginning of Sam and Reid's friendship did. The entire thing was a major rollercoaster of emotions, no doubt, but I loved the ride and peaks of all those high emotions and feelings, and the way we shift gears from angsty 'i can't trust you' drama, both in friendships and family relations, to batshit crazy Winchester Land. But then to also end with this bittersweet kind of ending, the mixture of dissolution between brothers but healing between friends is once again a great connective thread between the two worlds. And it's most definitely a gift, giving Emily the gift of HBO style cursing that the boys have also been screaming for all these years 😁 Plus, you know I am a total slut for the flashbacks. Having a fic where half of it consists of them?
Now I'm just left thinking about a Sam/Reid road trip!
Oh! And the bookend quotes are perfect 👌
Spitting Venom (Supernatural x Criminal Minds)
Word Count: ~10,300 yikes
Warnings: Non-explicit violence, nothing more than you’d see on either show. More cursing though. Don’t even try to tell me Emily Prentiss doesn’t swear like a sailor.
A/N: This is for @stunudo and her “Lie To Me” Challenge! My prompt was the Modest Mouse song “Spitting Venom.” Thanks to @fookinghelljensensthighs for reading and exclaiming and also just loving Sam and Spencer with me.
This follows the events of Quitting, but you don’t need to read that to understand anything that happens here.
This centers around (and steals dialogue from) the events of “Slash Fiction” (SPN) and “Proof” (CM). In order to smoosh the timelines together right, I had to do some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, so don’t think about it too hard. You should be able to tell from context clues, but for reference, the flashbacks (in order of appearance) correspond to “Shut Up, Dr Phil” (SPN) / “It Takes A Village” (CM), “To Hell… And Back” (CM), “My Bloody Valentine” (SPN), “Amplification” (CM), “With Friends Like These” (CM) / “Unforgiven” (SPN), “Appointment In Samarra” (SPN), and “Memoriam” (CM). Seriously, wibbly-wobbly. So much canon juggling. Just go with it.
“Just for the record, the weather today is partly suspicious with chances of betrayal.”

“Strap in, folks, we’ve got a weird one,” Garcia says cheerily, handing Spencer a paper folder as everybody else opens their tablets.
“I thought the Winchesters were dead,” Hotch says.
“That is part of the aforementioned weird, yes. Okay, for those of you who weren’t paying attention four years ago…”
Spencer opens his file, and Garcia’s words stop making sense, because that’s Sam in the mugshot.
His first instinct is to shout, This is a mistake.
