Oh believe me I know your pain. Y’know the famous “lesbian fiction” panel:

Yeah it turns out this is actually from a crossdressing manga. The girl in the panel is having her lesbian awakening over the crossdressing boy that she thinks is a girl. Then after it’s revealed that he’s a boy she still has a bit of a crush on him. And in the end the crossdressing dude, who had previously expressed that being a girl let him actually be happy and feel emotions, decides to give up crossdressing forever and date the girl from the panel’s best friend. Such a good panel from a manga that had the chance to do something good and instead took literally the worst ending option available

as a trans person, im a little bit confused on this and i was wondering what your opinion would be, so what do you think about genderbend art?

I think its a fun way to draw fanart/ interpretations of the character i guess? A fav manga of mine is genderbender(?) "Ookami shounen wa kyou mo uso o kasaneru" (read this before i realized im trans) and its fun to explore things even if the characters/we don't turn out trans i guess? in case of irl people with consent of course lol

I finished Train to the End of the World last week and I loved it! This show was a powerhouse of talent and while it had some production difficulties and a somewhat rushed final few episodes, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to every new episode.

It's Mizushima's latest work, a director that I know and love from Girls und Panzer, Shirobako, and several others. As with his other shows, there's an awesome level of detail and research on display, with the mechanics and workings of the train on full display. It's great looking, super creative, and has character designs by namo(!!!) who I know and love from Ookami Shounen.

It kinda goes without saying, but I have to mention it anyway. I love the thought and detail that goes into Mizushima's shows. It's not just the technical stuff either, there's so many little things that I noticed as foreshadowing or hinted throughout the series. So many things that when I went back to watch an old episode I would notice a bunch of references to events which haven't happened, or haven't been fully explained yet, but you just didn't know what you were looking at.

Something else this show does that feels really refreshing is the way the dialogue is written. It's so dense, but also super snappy. Everybody always has something to say. The pacing in general is so fast, and I mean that in a really good way. Aside from the really well done (and memorable) "quiet moments" to give you room to breathe and soak in the atmosphere, the characters are almost always doing things when talking. It's so rare you get a scene where the show just stops for a cheap scene of characters talking. Everything and everybody are always moving.

It's really imaginative, and an easy recommend. I wish I talked about it more while it was airing, because it was so fun to come up with theories about what's going on and just discuss but oh well it happens.

Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso o Kasaneru, AKA The boy who cried wolf tells another lie today, by Namo.

Personally I liked it - and @flipflap-flipflap above says pretty much why, and what some of the caveats are.

[Alright take-two on this damn post.  First one got eaten by post editor right as I was ready to post.  You see how long this is?  Save to drafts, kids.]

I’m here to shove a manga on you: Ookami Shounen Wa Kyou Mo Uso O Kasaneru (The Boy Who Cried Wolf Also Told a Lie Today).  It’s a gender bending romance.  Despite how awful that probably sounds, it’s actually really fucking good and I do not say that lightly. 

(No spoilers, this is all in the first chapter)  A high school boy insecure about his intimidating face, Itsuki, has fallen for a shy loner girl, Tokujira, who does not seem specifically phased by his naturally scary face.  So he takes a risk and confesses, but she turns him down brutally.  Itsuki goes to his sister to lament his insecurities about his face, which he (more or less correctly) attributes as why he can’t make connections.  To give him a new perspective on his appearance, his sister (trans btw) gives him a makeover while he’s sleeping and then kicks him to the curb of her salon - fully crossdressed.  On his way home, Itsuki (♀) ends up bumping into Tokujira, and she mistakes him for a boyish girl.  Under this misunderstanding, she asks “her” for a favor…

She has androphobia, and she has it bad.  So much so she can’t even look at men without snapping violently or becoming physically ill.  And Itsuki (♀) is just boyish enough to trigger her, but not enough to lock her down.  So she asks for “her” help, to see if she can desensitize herself to her phobia. Itsuki’s in a bind for a couple obvious reasons, not the least being the guilt of deceiving Tokujira. But nonetheless, he genuinely wants to help her.  So, he decides to continue crossdressing, diving into a lie that he soon finds he has no easy exit from.

I really recommend this manga.  I cannot say that enough times.  It is phenomenal, shattering tropes left and right in fun and interesting ways.  Do yourself a favor and give this manga a try.

(Also, no, I did not go into this planning to compare a manga about crossdressing to the abolitionist writings of Frederick Douglass, but reality deserves to be a bit absurd sometimes.)

Lo que resta del año

Como bien comentamos por redes sociales, la primera mitad del año la centraríamos en acabar tanto el proyecto de Vampeerz, como el de Madame Petit, dejando así, tan solo 7 proyectos activos en el fansub.

Ahora que hemos llegado a nuestros propósitos (con un mes de atraso pero bueno, estuvo bastante bien calculado) surge la siguiente pregunta:

¿En qué nos centraremos lo que resta del año?

Si os interesa mínimamente el estado de algunos de nuestros proyectos activos, os recomiendo que sigáis leyendo ya que iré poniendo de mayor a menor prioridad lo que estaremos haciendo.

1º) Watashi no Shounen

Esta vez no es un simulacro, todo el staff activo del fansub, está centrado principalmente en trabajar y traer lo que resta del manga de Watashi no Shounen. Así que muy pronto volverá para acabar con el proyecto. Nos quedan 9 capítulos para acabar la obra así que si para finales de año no les estamos dando fin, para el primer tercio de 2024 tengan seguro que sí.

2º) Joou no Hana

El segundo proyecto en el que estaremos trabajando (aunque no tanto de "cara a los lectores") será Joou no Hana, el joint con Last Heaven. Actualmente nos quedan 3 capítulos para estar al día con la versión inglesa y 8 para acabar el manga. La idea es que este año terminemos nuestra parte del joint (limpiar los capítulos) para poder centrarnos en otras cosas pero al menos 3 capítulos esperamos publicarlos este año.

3º) Kakushigoto ~Secrets~

Un poco la línea de Joou, actualmente estamos al día con la versión inglesa (aunque ya nos han comunicado que están trabajando en los caps restantes y estarán pronto) en caso de que así sea, se irán trabajando nada más que salgan. Pero la idea principal es terminar nuestra parte del joint (limpieza de nuevo) nos quedan 7 capítulos para acabar el proyecto y 4 de ellos ya están limpios.

4º) Kenrantaru

Nuestro propósito es seguir publicando un capítulo del manga cada 2 meses, para seguir dando señales de que esté activo pero actualmente no es nuestra mayor prioridad (los 3 de arriba son más prioridad, porque estamos a nada de acabarlos)

De todas formas, los fans del manga esperen noticias el año que viene porque... Si cumplimos los propósitos, a partir de este manga hacia abajo pasarán a ser "prioridad alta". ;)

5º) Idolish7 Re:Member

Prometí un capítulo al mes aprox, no se va a dar el caso, actualmente estamos intentando hacer un joint para los capítulos que necesitan ser traducidos directamente del japonés. En caso de que no funcione, los traduciría yo lentamente. Mi propósito este año con este manga es acabar el tomo 01, (me quedarían 2 capítulos y los extras).

6º) Ookami Heika

El otro joint con Last Heaven y anuncio que actualmente su prioridad no será muy alta, ya que como dije antes, estamos más centramos en acabar con Joou no Hana (o al menos de ponernos al día con el grupo inglés). Una vez que acabemos, os aseguramos que el ritmo de publicación de Ookami aumentará.

7º) Fukumenkei Noise

Por allá en 2018 empezamos Fukumenkei de 0 con muuucho amor y cariño. Lamentablemente, otros grupos empezaron a trabajarlo y hacer una versión de fast scan pero el público siguió su versión y dejó de apoyarnos así que le dimos parón y prioridad a otros mangas.

Ahora tras varios años, anunciamos que Fukumenkei se retomará desde donde lo dejamos e iremos a nuestro ritmo trabajándolo. Nadie lo leerá, pero nos da igual. Estamos acabando todos los proyectos activos para poder centrarnos en Kenrantaru, Idolish, Ookami y Fuku el año que viene. Por ahora NO vamos a trabajar ningún manga nuevo a excepción de...

8º) ¿?¿?¿?

El último proyecto que tenemos y que es un Bonus es uno que lleva muuuchos años en el baúl del fansub. Tenemos planeado publicarlo en Navidades, todo el tomo único junto, de golpe por eso digo que será "proyecto nuevo" (pero no)

Lo mismo, hay por ahí una versión del manga pero nosotros queríamos sacar nuestra propio versión del manga. Espero que no tengamos ningún imprevisto y podamos publicarlo antes de que acabe el año o como tarde en Enero. :)

Quitando esto, por ahora no estamos aceptando proyectos nuevos ni joints. Somos un grupo de 4 personas que no da para mucho más y no queremos tener de nuevo parones en mangas que llevan meses o incluso años parados.
