#ooc: some worldbuilding

Nera doesn't look back as she now rushes to the hangar, pressing a button in one of her pockets to activate her personal kinetic shielding and placing a hand on her calvary saber. An impolite gesture to begin with, to gesture to draw like this at a formal gathering is on its own tantamount to a duel challenge, and a reckless one at that, but she makes haste regardless to the door.

It takes a minute to sign in, biometrics and a password required to open the door. She catches a glimpse of Strel behind her, half drunk but with his hand on his own sword, and opens the door.

The hangar is a massive structure with variously designed Mourning Cloaks sat in clearly labeled alcoves along the building's walls and in long aisles along the center. The frames themselves are clearly distinct, sharing the silver and marigold yellow livery of their company and house but each design and accent color bespoke. Sound echoes in here, but only the faint clank of metal on metal breaks through the faint hum of the dormant reactors, set to burn only enough for sustainence and not for excess power. The lights are dim but seem to grow brighter as people walk into the room.

The clank sits near the back of the hangar, out of sight from the entry point Nera chose. She takes a deep breath, then draws her sword as she begins to make her way around to the source of the noise.

This is not an omninet post. Instead it is a party, an evening outdoor ball under an impossibly clear sky with wine that flows like water and a banquet table that never flags. It's still early in the night, the last rays of sunlight sitting violet on the horizon, and floating drone-lights sparkle over the high hedge gardens of the Montague estate.

The occasion doesn't matter but is ostensibly a minor feast day to the Celebrant, marked by the appearance of an auspicious comet in her constellation in the sky. The Celebrant sits high above Ispahsalar this time of year, although she is lower in the horizon on this part of the planet, and the shape of the stars is always somewhat skewed outside of Karrakis's system. Regardless, here the people celebrate.

Nera had arrived earlier to a chorus of titles, no amount of late being fashionable for the host family. She stands askew to the rest of the partygoers in her ornate gown, glittering silver jewelry adorning her neck and elaborate updo. At her hip is also a conspicuous cavalry saber, an accessory that may be oddly common for one more used to parties outside of the Concern.

For now she holds three glasses, having heard the herald introduce Ashlyn and Cal'yaa a moment ago, and watching for them through the crowd so she may be the first to introduce them to this pit of piranhas.

How to leave job without upsetting employer?

Quick story time: So! A few years ago my financial situation wasn't the best, and I had been recently traded away to a different atom, so I was really in need of a job! I would have taken practically anything if it paid decently. One very dodgy interview later, and I had landed myself a job- unfortunately, as I should have gathered from the interview, my employer was full of absolute shit.

Not going into any details as to how full of shit they were, but it should be saying enough if I'm asking for advice on how to resign from my job without making my employer go ballistic. Working with my employer's taken a big toll on my mental state and I fear that if I stay a moment longer I'm going to be charged for murder.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

I've been legally "dead" (we technically can't die, but whatever) in my home area for a few years now. A friend of mine was sent to the hospital when his (proton) boss "found" him injured in a dumpster. Lawyers never helped - if we could even afford them.

been having thoughts about my almia worldbuilding again lately which also means I've been having thoughts about how (what I know of) PL:A was handled and about sinnoh's remake predicament

thinking about it, what pokemon SHOULD have done regarding not only legends arceus, but also the diamond and pearl remakes, is that they should have gone the route with the diamond and pearl remakes that oras went with including things like the delta episode information and the existence of the draconids which was "new" (not in the old games). They COULD have done a remake of dppt that included, connected to and built on the new lore from PL:A, and created a more cohesive world that way, but they didn't, so PL:A is in its own little pocket dimension in a way, and we don't know a lot about how the people, events and progression of time from then influenced the present day sinnoh other than a few things hinted at or self-contained in PL:A and the existence of ancestor characters

Shadow & Rouge ???

Best of friends, whether or not they'll admit that openly. Sole confidantes, ride-or-die as hell for each other. Emerl actually replaces Omega in this timeline, and while they're not as close to him as they would've been to Omega, the trio work together well.

Shadow's lore is a bit more complex than Rouge's (and is also some of my favorite from this entire AU), so he may take up the bulk of the post!

SHADOW:

➺ To explain Shadow's lore, we'll have to go back to the very beginning. The ultimate lifeform was developed with the brain of a child to start with— and due to that childlike mind being unable to sustain the psychological stress of existing for the purpose of keeping Maria alive, it split into two different parts initially, eventually three. ➺ Shadow is the core and acts as host. Terios is considered the inner self helper. Ark tends to be a bit hazy, their presence being sporadic, but is the persecutor. They formed last, sometime during the events of SA2. ➺ Generally, when whoever is fronting shifts, it isn't super noticeable, but there do tend to be some physical or vocal cues. ➺ Most are tangentially aware of Shadow's condition, but only Rouge, Emerl, and Sonic have properly met and spoken to each alter. ➺ Effectively genderless. ➺ Shadow and Sonic are exes. They broke up after Sonic was consumed in his research to find Tails. ➺ Terios is the alter who directly witnessed Maria's death. Despite being the one to see it, he struggles to cope with the reality of it, as well as the idea that much time has passed at all. Due to Gerald's plans to siphon Maria into a different living body in order to keep her alive, he formed the belief that Tails is Maria after noting the amount of similarities (which, of course, is what prompted the Doctor to set his sights on Tails as a potential candidate to begin with). The first Tails even learned of Maria's existence was when he was snatched up by Terios (sometime during SA2's events) and insistently referred to by her name. ➺ Shadow and Terios believe Tails is alive, but Ark (who's usually the one that whoops Tails' ass) thinks he's dead. Terios was hysterical for days over his disappearance and will sometimes turn up to try and help Sonic out with research. ➺ Ark is essentially the one responsible for a majority of the bad decisions they make (i.e., involvement with Black Doom and such). ➺ Rouge is Shadow's best friend. Terios adores her. Even Ark is partial to her.

ROUGE:

➺ Lived on the streets for a good chunk of her childhood before being taken in by two very loving mothers. She's been stealing for as long as she can remember. ➺ Developed kleptomania because of her experiences as a child. Though she wants for nothing as an adult, most of her jewel-thieving tendencies come from that primal protective instinct to always have something to hold onto. ➺ Has an amicable friendship / off and on situationship with Knuckles. They're treasure hunting buddies! ➺ She may be the face of bold self-confidence now, but when she was younger, she had a lot of body image issues. ➺ Extremely embarrassed by the scene phase she went through in her teenage years. She had a MySpace page and everything... ➺ A surrogate big sister to Amy, who went through a lot of the same problems she did as a teenager. They're roomies now! Amy says she wants to plan Rouge's wedding when she gets engaged. ➺ Woah, she's bisexual! I didn't know that! ➺ Would kill a hundred men just to make her girlfriend smile. ➺ So totally polyamorous. ➺ Emerl is something like a little brother to her, although they're not as close as she is with Amy. ➺ Cries only when she's alone. A lot of the times, it's about her worry for Shadow.

Given the recent changes that my portrayal of Dain experimented, I thought it'd be a good idea to write a post about what is changing exactly and what concepts I'm leaving behind. These are related to a recent post I wrote (beware of leaks if you don't want to read those, this post won't contain any but it'll make references to that) for a better understanding of where I'm going. Before that, I will preface that there will be hardly any change in the manner I've been writing Dain until now save for a few things here and there that I'll be bolder about, given that I've always kept in the dark how he is by himself instead of what surrounds him and build him based on that. Furthermore, his connection with Irminsul will continue to be one of the main traits that I'm attributing to him, the difference being that he himself as a whole won't be necessarily gravitating towards it any longer. Without further ado, let's begin:

✧ One of the main portrayal points of this blog is that he's the younger sibling from the Gnostic Chorus. From here on, that concept will be scratched. Related to this, I established that Dain would see Aether as if it were himself having failed to protect his older sister (Asmoday in this case). This will cease existing as well. Moreover, I also mentioned that this is one of the reasons I don't ship Dain with any of the twins, but it's worth noting that even if this will stop being a thing to this blog, my stance on shipping him with any of them still stands.

✦ In regards to his origins, he's a human born during the Crimson Moon dynasty alongside his older brother Vedrfolnir. Given that there are being more and more Lovecraft references, I will continue to stick to the premise that those who are pure-blooded Khaenri'ahns aren't necessarily immortal (as they can still pass away due to violence or by exiting the chat of their lives to put it nicely, I will also add the prospect of falling to madness due to a characteristic I'll talk about in a future post —to have an idea, it's loosely connected to what was already mentioned in Sumeru about reaching levels of enlightenment through Irminsul—), but they are long-living in their right.

✧ More details related to this origins, his physical appearance can be described as that of the moon similarly as it is done with all of those who are related to the angels —this in honor to one of his distant ancestors— and his eyes stem from the other counterpart of his ancestors.

✦ Pure-blooded Khaenri'ahns are a special human race unrelated to Phanes' creation, but that of an angel and the being who their eyes take after. The freedom under which they've been both (one more than the other) is what allows them to be untainted by fate, unlike the rest of humans whose origins trace back to Phanes. Furthermore, they're more susceptible of finding truths of the world given their mystical characteristics that trace from the being from who they take their eyes after.

✧ It is due to this, through a consciousness transferral —and later on shared— as well as Irminsul's sentience and acceptance of his mind and soul that Dain comes to hold a connection with the tree. The more time that passes and learns, the closer he is to reach enlightenment and to find the answers behind this world, as well as extending his knowledge to the outside.

✦ Due to his special characteristics in addition to his intimate connection to Irminsul, Dain's blood is akin to Ley Line ichor. Moreover, he continues to withhold his healing and purifying capabilities both due to his link with the Axis Mundi and the reached potential stemming from the angel that contributed to the birth of this human race.

✧ By birth, every pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn has the potential of reaching the heights of their first ancestors. Rhinedottir would count as such example by gazing into the sin that is the origins of creation and being the most exalted figure of Khemia, as well as the creator of several abyss-linked monsters. Those who would be later known as the Five Sinners plus Dain (pillars in their own right of the kingdom) each had reached their manner of enlightenment and tapping into their potential.

✦ Dain's manifestation is that of a seraphim in particularly cruder battles what concern physical-wise (the 36 spectral swords he can summon taking the shape of wings and lunar flames filling in the skeleton-like appearance those swords give to his wings), which is majorly twisted into a more unsightly-looking angel post-curse and corruption. His potential by the side of the being that created the Khaenri'ahn race alongside the angel remains intact given their completely unrelated existence to Teyvat, and the same potential that is worked on over the centuries in terms of acquiring knowledge until he taps into a power from beyond.

✧ Given what was mentioned previously and the strong implications of Dain's deeds being relevant enough to cause a significant change to Teyvat by having access to reweaving all threads of fate, this portrayal will play with the possibility of him becoming the 5th Descender.

i had a hella lengthy talk with kai about j.ayvik on disc yesterday afternoon and not only was it hilarious, it was also hella informative. i’ve been on the fence about a particular headcanon regarding my viktor and the whole conversation finally made the puzzle pieces fit together.

==> On Refusian Drones

Conceived of, co-designed, and (mostly) built by Lohkii, drones from the planet Refuse are almost always completely robotic. The few that aren't, are cybernetic, with all their dangerous parts embedded with precious gemstones, as are the heads and joints of robotic drones as a failsafe in the event of a malfunction, betrayal, or hack.

The standard issue, mass produces variety typically stand at around 7 foot 6 inches, or about 2.3 meters. Despite their rather gaudy appearance, they are made from some very heavy-duty alloys from minerals rich on Refuse and other rocky worlds in its system. Despite their sturdy nature, they are surprisingly lightweight, allowing for sustained flight via the jetpacks on their backs.

Their hands can be "detached" and launched via golden chains attached at the wrists, making them ideal for the capture of high value targets. This can also be used in tandem with melee weapons and shields (shown above) to provide formidable range, but also can serve as a weak point to disarm (heh) them to a point.

Of course, with this very weakness in mind, these drones are also outfitted with eye lasers, machine guns in the arms, and guided micro-missiles that launch from the back, in the event that a target proves particularly resourceful.

Combat-wise, striking at the exposed ball-jointed hips as well as its chains (when exposed) are good ways to absolutely nerf the shit out of its combat capabilities, and hitting the turbines of its jetpack can knock it out of the sky.

the inn — ever wonder what it’d be like to be found and lead to a fantastical nondescript place at just the right time? where the interior of this so called inn is limitless and somehow like every single resting place combined into one? there’s a sauna, a mess hall, a smithy, a salon, and so much more. not to mention the five star service. and, rumor has it that the proprietor’s quite charming. just don’t look too closely or try to make sense of things there. it’s better for your sanity if you simply let those sleeping creatures lie.

the fringe — everyone’s heard of the abyss and the void and the theory of liminal spaces. but what if there’s a place where they’re at a crossroads? what if it’s the resting place, the haunting grounds of something so ancient — it’s long forgotten it’s original purpose. it goes by the guardian and it’s wards have all come and gone from this fringe between worlds and planes. nothing will ever make sense here. temptations will always be around every corner and slope. escape isn’t even a desire to those that should want it most.
