"this is completely fine", and I'm 106's dad. Go sleep.
“Haheh, you’re s-so funny,”
His groggy words slurred slightly, and he tried to blink away the urge to faint on his desk- like that would do anything. He halfheartedly glared through exhausted eyes,
“I’m very busy, mind you, and I don’t have enough time on my hands for a nap.”

Rebuilding || Kylo Ren x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: Based on @dirtymagicimagines96 ‘s request: ‘Hey!! Can I send in a request for Kylo Ren? The reader is dating him and she finds out her parents are getting a divorce and is really upset. He was concerned for her health as she has been in bed ever since her dad left. He goes to check on her at her home, and tries to comfort her as he is helping her to return to her daily routines, and she is slowly to moving on and making process of going forward in life.’
I guess it’s a slight trigger warning? I know what it feels like to only see one parent a few times a year, so I tried to draw on my own experience for this. No idea if this request meant something personal to the requester, but I hope I did it justice! Also sorry if it’s short and not that good - I’m still getting back into the swing of writing! Also Kylo might be a bit OOC - simply because I haven't found the right technique to writing a Modern!Kylo.

You stared numbly at the wall to the side of your mother’s head as she spoke to you, her eyes rimmed red. She sounded muffled, like you were underwater, and you weren’t really paying attention to anything she said. You’d come home for the weekend to stay with your parents, to catch up with them and just spend time with them, as you'd been working pretty hard for the last month or so, and hadn't had the spare time to come and see them.
Last night, which was supposed to be your final night at your parents as you were driving home the next day in order to prepare everything for work the following day, turned into one of the worst nights of your life so far. You couldn't even remember what you were all discussing, but suddenly an argument had broken out between your parents, and all you could do was sit there in silence, all your attempts to stop them ignored. It went on for what felt like hours, but was probably only ten minutes or so - but it was enough time for your dad to go upstairs, (continuing the argument as he went) come down with a suitcase and a duffel bag, and to storm out of the house - your pleads and cries lost on him. As the door slammed shut behind him, the house immediately fell silence, you and your mother both staring at the door in slight shock - neither of you had ever expected your dad to do something like that, and you weren't even aware that your parents were having problems. Neither of your parents were bad people - they were some of the nicest people you would ever meet, and this made the split all the more painful.
That night was spent on the sofa, you and your mother hugging each other, mindless entertainment on the TV - neither of you paying it much attention. You held each other, and while you mostly just felt numb to the world, a small part of you was angry. Angry that your parents had to fight in front of you, because the child within you wished that they could have pretended, for you. Angry that you were unable to help in any way, that the deed was done and you knew what was coming.
You spent the rest of your last day to help your mother get back on her feet a bit, and to help clear the house of your dad’s things - many tears were shed during this activity - but eventually you had to go home, and go back to work. Your boss was very understanding of the whole process, but could only give you a limited amount of days off as it was growing to be the busiest time of the year where you worked.
When you finally got home, you were slightly surprised to see your boyfriend’s car in your driveway, and as soon as you pulled in to your driveway, you saw Kylo jump out of his car, an unusually worried look on his face.
“Y/N! Are you alright?” He hurried over to you. “You haven't replied to any of my texts or calls nearly all weekend, and you spend literally every waking moment on your phone so I’ve been, you know, worried-” He cut himself off at the look on your face. “What happened? What’s wrong?”
Your vision grew blurry as your eyes began to fill with tears. “I-” Your voice cracked. “They split up.” You sniffed, your voice wobbling slightly as Kylo wrapped his arms tightly around you. “They had a huge fight and I’ve been trying to help mum get through it and I’m sorry, I didn't have time to reply to your messages and I’ve been trying to be strong for mum but it’s too much -” You choked on your words, unable to keep going.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” You could feel Kylo’s voice rumbling through his chest, and amongst all the sadness and pain, it seemed rather soothing. He rested his head on top of yours, swaying the two of you on the spot as you cried into his chest. There wasn't much else he could say to comfort you - you knew he still found it difficult to deal with emotions.
The two of you just stood there in your driveway for a few minutes, until your sobs had turned into hiccups, and your breathing had begun to go back to normal. Without a word, Kylo placed a hand firmly on your lower back, and guided you towards your front door, gently taking your keys from you and unlocking your front door. He set you down on your sofa, leaving briefly to make you both some tea, which was his way of trying to calm you down.
The next few hours passed quickly, the two of you simply sitting in silence on your sofa, with you clutching your empty mug like it was a lifeline. Eventually, it started to grow dark outside, and it was a relief that you had a few days off work - you didn't think you’d be getting any sleep tonight.
“Y/N?” You turned your head to look at Kylo, moving from where you were resting on his chest. “I have to go home now, sweetheart.” He murmured, leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead. “I have work tomorrow and I need to get everything ready. I’ll come back tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay.” You smiled weakly. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” You sat up so that he could stand up, and walked him to the door, letting him press another kiss to your cheek before he left. When the door had closed behind him, you slumped back against it, and buried your head in your hands. You were too tired to cry. “Get your shit together.” You whispered angrily to yourself. But a small part of your mind was telling you that it was your fault - if you hadn’t moved so far away, maybe they’d still be together. With that nasty thought hovering over your like a dark cloud, you made your way to your bedroom, and you fell asleep within minutes, exhausted from the past few days.
                                              ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
The next few days passed in a blur. You hardly got out of your bed, except to grab snacks and go to the bathroom. While the more rational part of you knew that your parent’s divorce wasn't your fault, there was still the irrational side of you that lingered in the past, reviewing all your memories with your parents and how happy you all were, and you knew that you’d never be able to make new memories as a family.
Kylo dropped by in the evenings when he’d finished work, bringing dinner with him, and the two of you would sit on your bed and eat - something you wouldn't normally do, but you’d been lacking any energy or motivation for days now.
On the third day of you lying aimlessly in your bed - you had to go back to work soon, you knew that - Kylo entered your room as per his routine, and sat on the end of your bed, letting out a sigh.
“I know that this has been really hard for you,” He started, and you looked up at him from your phone screen. “And that you want nothing more than to stay in bed forever, which you’re doing a good job of attempting.” He climbed over the bed so he was sitting next to you. “But soon you’re going to have to go back to work, and I’d rather you were going back with a clear head, instead of...being miserable and not having showered in four days.” He said somewhat apologetically, and you looked away guiltily. “I’m worried about you.”
“I...” You trailed off, sighing heavily yourself. “You’re right, and I know you’re right.” You shuffled around on your bed until the two of your were facing each other. “And I know that Mum and Dad wouldn't want me to be this upset over this but I...I just can’t help but think it’s my fault they split up.” You said miserably.
“You know that isn't true.” Kylo maneuvered the two of you so that your back was pressed up against his chest, and his arms were wrapped around you. You giggled for the first time in days as you glanced down to see his feet just about fitting on your bed, while your feet were a comfortable distance away from the foot of your bed - the height difference between the two of your never failed to make you laugh. “Your parents adore you, and the last thing they’d want is for you to blame yourself.” The two of you lay there for a few moments, before Kylo sat up. “Come on, help me make dinner.” He stood up, and held out his hand. You sighed slightly, and took it, allowing him to pull you up.
You spent the next half an hour or so preparing and cooking your dinner, and for the first time in almost a week, you found yourself smiling and enjoying yourself as you and Kylo moved around your kitchen. You actually managed to convince Kylo to stay over at your house that night, which was a good decision regarding your motivation; he managed to get you up, showered and ready in time for your work, and you both left your house with smiles on your faces.
Another few weeks went by, and with Kylo’s help, you’d started to get back into your daily routines - in fact, you and Kylo had started to think about moving in together as he’d basically been living at yours for the past week or so.
You’d started to live in a world of ignorant bliss regarding your parents divorce - but that changed again when they signed the divorce paper, and you were momentarily plunged back into your guilt and sadness. It was at this point that you also realised you wanted to never let go of Kylo Ren, who had stood by you and supported you throughout the ordeal, no matter how grumpy or bitchy you had been towards him. It made you realise how hard he was trying - before the two of you had started dating, he’d seemed cold and unapproachable, and now he was lying in bed with you, telling you things like how strong you were, and that he was so proud of you. Even if you never got married, (you weren't sure if you could go through the pain that your parents had to go through, not to mention putting your child through the ordeal. the two of you had actually started dating just as his parents were going through a rough patch.) you just had a feeling that if Kylo could begin to help you out of your circle of depression, then you'd be able to get through most things together.
