Musical Monday
Good evening! Today is Monday, and we're travelling back to 1978 where a bunch of misbehavin' singers and dancers performed their way to a Best Musical Tony win! Three other musicals weren't as jolly, but certainly earned their place in the nominee category. Without further ado, let's hop aboard the blog train and see what one of those losers was all about. Happy Musical Monday!
Musical Monday date: 10/30/2017
Musical: On the 20th Century
Book, Music, and Lyrics: Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Cy Coleman, and Betty Comden and Adolph Green

                          1ST REVIVAL= September 26, 2005
                           2ND REVIVAL= March 15, 2015 - July 19, 2015
Awards Won: ORIGINAL CAST= Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Actor in a Musical (John Cullum), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Kevin Kline), Best Scenic Design (Robin Wagner)/Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Kevin Kline), Outstanding Music, Outstanding Costume Design (Florence Klotz), Outstanding Set Design/Theatre World Award (Judy Kaye)
1ST REVIVAL= None (Special Event Performance)
2ND REVIVAL= Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Kristin Chenoweth)
Other: Based on Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's play, Twentieth Century, which played Broadway in 1932, 1950, and 2004.
Fun Fact: The one-night Special Engagement Revival performance boasted a cast with names such as Robert Cuccioli (Dr. Johnson), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Max), Marin Mazzie (Lily/Mildred), Brad Oscar (Oliver), Christopher Sieber (Bruce), Douglas Sills (Oscar), and Cheyenne Jackson and Andy Karl among the "Life is Like a Train" Porter quartet. Andy Karl would go on to play Bruce in the most recent revival.
Having seen this show when it was last revived, I can assure you that this is musical worth listening to and seeing, when possible. It was an absolute hoot seeing the likes of Kristin Chenoweth, Peter Gallagher, Andy Karl, and Michael McGrath take on the hilarious musical romp. Stay tuned next week as we continue the venture through 1978. Go see a show!

Words have meaning, and those meanings have power, including the power to hurt. If you use a word, even though you may say you're not using it in a negative way, if the word has negative connotations, regardless of the way you use it, it is STILL a negative word, and it DOES hurt. If people keep using words like "faggot" or "slut", ecc, their use continues to be perpetuated, and the negative connotations remain :(
Exactly. I don't understand why this is such a hard concept to grasp.

onthetwentiethcentury replied to your post: Last night I was researching medieval torture...
God, it reminds me of the torture where you’d be naked, and sat on top a sharp pole, and you’d be bound and left there, while gravity pulled you down, pushing the spike further up through you know where, until it came out your mouth… D:
I SAW SOMETHING LIKE THAT LAST NIGHT TOO OMG. It's called the Spanish Horse and it was used as late as the Civil War era in the United States!

WITCHCRAFT!!!
It was a flimsy door to begin with because our house isn't completely leveled (it's a ~fixer upper~) but GOODNESS, she's just a tiny cat, I did not realize that she was capable of such strength.

*scream* MURDER KITTEH!!…or is it DOG!!!
Nah, she is far too lazy to murder anything. One time a lizard got into the house and she and the other kitties played with it before we arrived home and rescued it, but they didn't even kill it.
