So, i saw that post going round about VtM vampires at Cons. The one that references Canon Vampire Jan DutchName. And i was all "@mourningafterdark who the hell's that?" They gave me the brief deets, and it got me thinking about how few canon VtM characters i actually could name.

Thus, i give you:

Canon VtM characters i can name (for a given value of name).

(Excluding Antedeluvians and earlier.) (Also excluding Bloodlines characters.)

Mithras. Ventrue.

The Man, The Myth, The Absolute Legend. Prince of London, King of English vampdom, Archbishop of Banterbury. In my head he's played by a more Iranian-looking Matt Berry. Took a bomb to the face, then fought a Werewolf Pack (or vise-versa?). Hates the Tremere cos they did his boy Rodge dirty. Literally a Golden God, so boss his whole bloodline takes less sun damage. Every other Ventrue canon chara can go home.

Roger "Rodge" de Camden. Hecata/Cappadocian.

Mithras' butler and boyfriend. Came back from the even more dead. Probably eternally looking into the camera like he's on the Office. Wears a skull, maybe? Matthew Dawkins' sort of self-insert.

Sasha Vykos. Tzimisce.

A Bad Bitch. A nonbinary icon. Sabbat big name. Once threw their balls at The Man. Got significantly less cool after that though. The Eldest got them pregnant this one time.

Like, head of the Camarilla or something. Probably a dick.

Theo Bell. Brujah, i think?

Seems like a dude? Swapped sides? Probably cool.

Yorak. Tzimisce.

A trans icon. Started the Cathedral of Flesh. Then annoyed the Cathedral of Flesh by trying to turn Dracula. So the Cathedral of Flesh ate him. Fair.

Kind of a wet. Saw the Eldest not die, then gets brutally trolled by them. Surprised the Eldest didn't make him pregnant too.

Helena & Maeneleus. Toreador & maybe also Toreador? Or Brujah.

Eternally big mad at each other. Is it about Carthage, i think it's about Carthage. Helena kept her ghoul boyfriend alive for, like, two thousand years. So mad props for that. He kept her under a nightclub for a bit?

That One Lady Malk who's Prince of Wales. Malkavian.

Doing her best. Probably needs a Spa Night. All the respect.

Monty Coven. Banu Haqim.

A London gent. Calls you "bruv." Ate Mithras this one time, and wishes he hadn't. i imagine he has the same sort of energy as Tom Hardy in the Venom 2 ad. Only instead of an alien, it's a Golden God with Big Dick Energy.

The Science Malk, Dr Something. Malkavian.

Nerd. Discovered the Blood Point in universe. Doing Science for the people who are not still alive.

Cuthbert "Daddy" Beckett. Gangrel.

Another nerd. Wrote a tell-all book about every vampire he fucked. Fandom is big horny for him? i don't quite see it, but i respect his vibe. Probably has cat ears.

Tremere Big Boys Who Aren't Mr Tremere. Tremere.

Ugh. The worst wizards. At least two of them are dating. Named after Asterix characters, maybe?

Tremere Girl, Carna? Tremere.

Made gargoyles. Maybe a "girlboss" stereotype. But she did go rogue, and seems to care about her gargoyle babies, so i'll allow it.

The Capuchin. Hecata... probably.

Probably not five undead monkeys in a robe. Stepped in to make all the Hecata play nicely together. Refuses to accept title of <strike>Daddy Hecata</strike> Clan Leader. Probably a time traveller. i imagine them played by Patrick Troughton (the second Doctor Who).

The Dracon, Michael, and the Boring One. Tzimisce, Toreador, Ventrue.

Epic doomed threesome that Made Constantinople Great. The Eldest was against the relationship, ordered the Dracon to come home, and sent the Dracon's three-headed brother to go get him when he refused. Dracon ripped all three heads off in what i'm assuming was an Absolutely Epic Fight. They all eventually broke up when Micheal tried to get the other two <strike>puppies</strike> Childes (in an obvious attempt to keep together a flagging relationship).

BABA FUCKING YAGA. Nos.

i nearly didn't count her 'cos she's practically an antedeluvian. Rules Siberia with big iron claws. Everyone is scared of her. Fair.

Miraculous Ladybugs and Names

Dupain-Cheng Marinette, 

“Du pain” in French means “some bread” in French so fitting for a family of bakers (I don’t know what Cheng means as I have absolutely no knowledge of Chinese)

Marinette is a name on it’s own but it’s also the diminutive of “Marie” (Mary in English) and the Virgin Mary is associated with the ladybug in many languages.

Agreste, Adrien and Gabriel

So Hawkdaddy has been fucking with us with this one and I’ll tell you why, we know now that Gabriel Agreste is Hawkwoth (le Papillon  in French : the butterfly) and you know what one of the meaning of “Agreste” is ? IT’S THE NAME OF A FUCKING BUTTERFLY. This one to be precise : Agreste (Grayling in English) 

Adrien is the name of a saint and his spouse was named Nathalie (she was also his carer at some point while he was in prison as Christian under Romans’s rule) rings any bells ? Adrien is always cooped up and his main caretaker is Nathalie Sancoeur (btw Sancoeur means “without a heart” in French)

Césaire Alya

Césaire was the surname of a Great French writer Aimé Césaire  who was from the French territory of La Martinique, he was also black. And fought for Black rights and against colonialism. 

Alya's name is a reference to the R&B singer Aaliyah, just as the rest of her family's names are references to jazz singers.(source) (all members of her family are named after jazz singers, her sisters are named after Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald , her dad after Otis Redding and her mum after Marlena Shaw  

Bourgeois Chloé 

Bourgeois in French use to mean people who were neither serfs or a part of the aristocracy, but now it has the meaning in French of someone who is rich or has means of living very comfortably. Fitting for the Maire of Paris’s daughter . Since not only does she come from a rich family the Bourgeois were the first people to  develop as a class of their own freed from the aristocracy’s rules, being Maire and elected by the people is a good representation of that. 

Chloé is the name of a French luxury brand of clothes from the etymology, Chloé comes from Greek and means either green grass or growing plants ... maybe it means she’ll grow as a character ? One can hope .

Haprèle Mylène

Mylène Farmer is a very well known French/Canadian singer and Mylène is in love with Ivan Bruel whose last name comes from Patrick Bruel a very well known French singer

If you remove the “ha” and just take “prèle” you’ve got the name of a plant “prèle” also “prèle” kinda sounds like “frêle” to a French ear and that means frail/fragile and Mylène is very sensitive. (but maybe I am extrapolating too much on that one) 

Bruel Ivan 

Like I said above Patrick Bruel is a very well know French singer and Ivan is one too also, Ivan Rebroff was a very well know German singer and very big (1m96) kinda scary looking (in a bear kind of way not an ugly kind of way, I’ll let you be the judge of that) so just like Ivan a gentle giant. 

Juleka Couffaine (in that order this time because of what I’ve written bellow)

so this one is kinda funny to French ears ‘cause it sounds like the French word for tinnitus:  “acouphène “a couffaine” is pronouced exactly like “acouphène” I don’t know if it was wanted or not but *shrugs*

Raincomprix Sabrina and Roger

Raincomprix sounds like “rien compris” in French witch means “not understood” like in the sentence“J’ai rien compris” (I have understood nothing/I don’t understand) the “X” at the end is most probably a reference to the comic book series “Asterix” who often have names with play on words and an X at the end 

It’s even funnier with her dad’s name since “roger” is used as “understood” while answering radio communication (well it implies understood, it really means “all informations received correctly” so basically he is named Understood not Understood lol ( but maybe I am going too far ) Also you can get the sentence “Roh! J’ai rien compris”) so a play on words again “Roh J’ai=Roger (same pronunciation in French)

Kanté Max

well first the obvious so maybe a reference to Immanuel Kant but to a French ear , “Kanté” sounds a lot like “compté” which means “counted” or “to count” (if it’s written “compter” (it’s pronounced the same way) and Max loves maths and is the “geek” of the class. Though it could also be a reference to quantic physics since Max Plank is the first to have put that theory forward . (Quant and Kant sounds the same in French)

(but again maybe I’m going too far)

Lavillant Rose

this one is pure play on words “lavillant” sounds like “la vie en” then you add Rose at the end and you've got “la vie en rose”  (life in pink) which is from the French expression “voir la vie en rose” (seeing life in pink) an English equivalent would be “seeing life trough pink tinted glasses” which suits Rose perfectly. 

PS : I know I did not do all of them  but I’ve only done the ones that jumped at me and that I know of, I’ll probably go back and do the others at some point but for now ENJOY !)
