Hi there!
I have been looking in vain for fics with Non-verbal Dean or Castiel. I've read a couple but haven't been able to find anymore and the tagging system only seems to give me junk results not actually related to that.
Thank in advance for your help!
Hey! Here are a few fics we could think of:
All Cats Are Gray After Dark by squirrelofcelestialintent (Explicit, 19k words)
1992, NYC. Dean is a Gulf War veteran working in the grimiest ER in the city, and he’s holding his life together. Kind of? Maybe. But he’s got secrets. No one at work knows that he’s not physically mute due to a war injury, but rather selectively mute from way back in the day, because that is almost impossible to explain. Nobody but Sam knows he’s a rare, male Omega, and the discovery of that secret was why he got kicked out of the army. And nobody, absolutely nobody, knows that he occasionally sneaks out to have anonymous sex with men. Until he meets Castiel freaking Novack - anonymous hook up turned new boss - who in less than a month manages to find out all three.
Casicorn by everandanon (Explicit, 56k words)
When Detective Dean Winchester suddenly finds himself with a new roommate, a mysterious man who doesn’t speak but seems to somehow be connected to the department’s recent vigilante problem, he has no idea what he’s in for. The guy doesn’t know how to work a TV, brush his teeth, or even take a shower, and he stares at Dean all the goddamn time. Not to mention he insists on sleeping in Dean’s bed. While Dean is in it! Weird, right? Except the longer Cas sticks around, the less Dean starts to mind; the more he kind of dreads Cas leaving for good, actually, even though nobody really knows who Cas is or where he came from. And then, one night, Dean happens to witness their vigilante firsthand and realizes he knows Cas even less than he thought . . . (Loosely inspired by The Little Mermaid)
Finding You In Every Sign by casblackfeathers (Explicit, 99k words)
Castiel was content with the constant flow of his life. He had his brother Gabriel, had his coffee shop and the weekly book club meetings as well as a small but solid group of friends. If there was one thing his hateful family had taught him, it was how fast things could go wrong if he let too many variables shape his life. So when he met Dean, a gradual regular at his shop, Castiel knew he was trouble, because Dean was like a comet, beautiful but beyond reach. Ever since his father died, there wasn’t a single constant in Dean’s life. Moving on, never stopping, never getting attached to one thing for too long had made him a drifter for the past seven years. Being the only hearing person in his family hadn’t been easy with a father like John Winchester, so as soon as Dean saw an escape, he took it. Settling down to open his flower shop was anything but easy, especially when he met the elusive deaf owner of the coffee shop next door. The more he discovered about Cas, the louder the voice in the back of his head whispered that maybe Castiel was the person finally worth staying for. And maybe, just maybe, Dean was willing to listen now.
Hear You Me by through_shadows_falling (Explicit, 84k words)
Castiel is a college graduate stuck in two dead-end, part-time jobs. Oh, and he’s Deaf…which to his oldest brother Michael makes him something to constantly fret over. It’s not Castiel’s fault that he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, right? Not like it’s Michael’s business anyways. Enter Dean Winchester. A chance encounter with the man has the power to change Castiel’s life - and in the end, maybe, just maybe, it will help him finally understand and accept who he is and what he’s meant to do.
i saw the light by LoversAntiquities (Mature, 14k words)
“Sam, you gotta hear about this ghost story I found the other day,” Susanne says over the speakerphone, just as loud as she has been for the last half hour. For the most part, Castiel ignores her—or tries—and concentrates on the beads dangling from between his fingers, centerpiece pressed to his forehead. Praying doesn’t work, but some mornings, when the coffee doesn’t get him going and the walls feel more like a prison than a home, he sits at the library table and whispers empty words into the crucifix, like Jesus can ease the festering ache in his chest. He can’t—no one else can either.
late july by thanks_tacos (Explicit, 26k words)
'I would like to take in your most abused one,' Castiel says, looking at the rows of doors in the yellow corridor. 'Give him a good home.' After his accident, Castiel needs someone to help him around the small brick house he lives in and the bookstore he owns. So, he adopts Dean; an omega who barely survived being dumped in a ditch and left for dead. Dean doesn't talk, but that's fine; they learn to live together in the quaint, rainy city surrounded by a green forest. Castiel just wants to give Dean a peaceful life he deserves, and maybe also - become his mate?
Looking for a Sign by emwebb17 (Mature, 70k words)
Dean can't figure out why the hot guy on the train is ignoring him…that is until he realizes that the man is profoundly deaf. After an unpleasant misunderstanding, the two become friends. It isn't long before Dean wants more, but Castiel sticks steadfastly to his rule about not dating hearing people. When Dean starts to date other people to try to get over him, Castiel starts to wonder if maybe Dean is the exception to the rule.
No Words by Ltleflrt (Explicit, 112k words)
On the run from his very powerful family, Castiel does his best to get lost. Because if he doesn’t know where he is, his brothers won’t be able to find him very easily either. He ends up in Silverton, a small mountain town nestled deep within the Rocky Mountains where he meets Dean Winchester, a very beautiful and very grumpy omega.
sunflower by unicornpoe (Teen and up, 4k)
Castiel comes home on a Sunday.
Still Waters Run Deep by thisisapaige (Explicit, 41k words)
In the darkest depths of the ocean, sealed into the ma'lak box with Chuck trapped behind the Mark, Castiel loses the battle against God's rage. When Sam and Dean find Castiel on a dark patch of highway— the Mark missing and his grace weak— he cannot speak. It rains. It rains and it rains and it rains. It is a Great Flood. In order to stop God, save the world, and resolve the issues simmering between them for years, Castiel and Dean need to communicate. Perhaps they should build an ark instead.
The Hanged Man by orphan_account (Mature, 87k words)
After Park Ranger Cas Novak saves a mysterious stranger named Dean from an attempted murder in the woods, he finds himself drawn into the man's secretive life. Someone tried to kill Dean, but he's not telling who. In fact, he's barely speaking at all. If he's going to have any hope of helping Dean, Cas will have to convince the man to trust him — all while trying not to fall in love with him along the way.
We also have a mute tag with more fics like these. Also if you search for 'selectively mute dean' or 'mute dean' (or cas if you prefer cas) on ao3 you might get lucky as well.

Midnight Gaming: Drop Dead Red
So last night I played Paint The Town Red past midnight, checked socials later to find... nintendo has announced an open playtest for an upcoming feature coming to nso + xpansion pack.
So Nintendo Switch Online is the paid online subscription of nintendo similar to xbox gold and playstation plus. It is one of the cheapest of the three though the online on switch has been lauded as spotty, it has gotten better over the years. Theres also the offering of classic titles that can be played on a subscription from NES, SNES and game boy, which is essentially the current iteration of the old Virtual Console service that was on Wii. Theres also the expansion pack which is an upgrade to the base subscription which adds a selection of Game boy Advance, N64 and sega mega drive games along with access to some dlc for certain games though the jump in price and spotty emulation at launch made the NSO expansion pack a very hard sell. Its alteast a bit better now but you dont often hear people recommend getting the full package.
So colour me intrigued when nintendo announced an open playtest for an upcoming feature for the NSO + Expansion Pack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only conditions you need to apply is to have an active NSO + Expansion sub. Now what exactly is this feature they are testing? Im not sure at the moment but i'm hoping its gamecube and wii support, though more likely its something else thats not really that exciting. I've had nintendo let me down before.
Anyways, speaking of things that are related to the colour red....
Tumblr media
Paint The Town Red is a voxel-based first person brawler available on steam where you enter a level and start a no holds barred brawl in the area that doesnt end until your the last one standing. The name is certanly accurate since a lot of the levels by the end do end up painted red with the blood and viscera of every single person who was in the area at the time.
Seriously, the games use of Voxel graphics ends up making it almost as gory as the Mortal Kombat series with how much bodily damage you can inflict on enemies to the point of their own skeletons popping out of the voxel meat just to say happy halloween.
Tumblr media
A lot of objects can be picked up and swung as a means to defend yourself during the hour of violence such as glass mugs and bottles, chairs, plates and weights, to more convential weapons such as blades, bats and firearms. Not too mention you fill up a power meter that sits above your health, with every enemy eliminated, allowing you to use one of three skills when you have enough so you can inflict some more damage. One small issue I have is that health can be troublesome to manage since you dont really get any health recovery unless theres a health pickup placed in the level and if theres isnt one or you already used them up, you'll find yourself needing to be careful when your mopping the last few brawlers and since enemies can do a quick lunge that if unblocked can hit you for a lot, it can lead to a death or two and a restart.
The game does have a nice variety of content available with the scenarios which are your basic levels where you get your ultraviolence on. An arena mode which is essentially your survive as long as you can mode. A freaking roguelike mode called Beneath with character classes and passive unlocks, yeah thats pretty neat. And then theres the user-made levels which are just levels and themes available through the games steam workshop. And yes, I played the Family Guy level.
youtube
So to wrap this, PTTR? Neat lil game, definatly a lot on offer especially for ultraviolence fans. Theres also a vr version available for anyone with a headset.
Im still a bit curious as to what Nintendo is planning with that upcoming feature they're looking to test, but im not sure I really wanna spend roughly £40 so I coukd try to apply for the test.... I dont suppose anyone would be... nice enough to buy it for me?? For the sake of journalism naturally 😏.
So thats Midnight Gaming, sorry for the delay but wanted to take a few days for my health. Feel free to leave feedback and game suggestions. See you all tomorrow.

It's a really fun thing that has happened during covid that my previously present-but-infrequent hypocondria anxiety spirals have been just Amped Up to the point they've evolved beyond worrying about covid to freaking the Fuck Out anytime anything is a (maybe, not even provably) little bit weird or a little bit achy (completely ignoring how weird and inexplicable my body has been for 25 years with no issues) and so I can never just have a nice normal day because I end up Freaking Out and then if I'm not actively Freaking Out about something I Freak Out about being so freaked out so often my heart's gunna give out

Fun fact: demon slayer starts in 1912 and ends in 1927(or at least that's when the Tashio era ends). Using that math Tanjiro (as long as he kept his health good) would very well be alive today at the ripe age of like 78 if my math is correct since he started as 13 in the series. (My math probably wrong asf)
Power imbalance, power bottom reader, knife play,  blood but not blood play...
Tumblr media
He hated you.
Your very being irked him more than anything he'd ever experienced in all his centuries of living. You were clumsy, boisterous, and played that arrogant music all throughout your home while walking around half naked. Well in Muzan's opinion you were half naked, he couldn't even begin to describe his disbelief at the trend of exposing skin.
It didn't help that you had that insignificant filth running through your veins. At first he was unsure, after all this was a completely different country than Japan, not to mention your darker skin and coiled hair. But no, he could smell and recognise the Kamado blood running through your veins just as strongly as it had run through all your ancestors.
Completely undiluted.
At the very beginning when you first moved in, you  came to his home. Knocking aggressively on his front door already getting off to the wrong start. When he opened it, you slipped past him and walked into his living room barely even saying hello as you put poorly decorated sugar cookies on his obsidian coffee table. "This is a nice place you got here Mj."
Muzan's eyes twitched, that joke had long since gotten old since he moved to America.
Now that you were closer he could definitely smell, the century old stench of rivaling bloodlust simmered just below your onyx skin. At any moment he expected you to attack him in some way or form. "Anyways I'm here to say hello neighbor, my name is Y/n and I'm your new best friend!"
Your happy attitude also agitated him to no end. Even though the knowledge of demons had dwindled down to only a few select families, even basic humans were wary of him as their baser instincts made them aware of his dangerous origins. This fact had long since forced Muzan to only prey on the elderly to survive. You had stayed a bit longer babbling about some nonsense that Muzan never acknowledged as he watched you from a good distance.
"You know you really got to add more to your wardrobe than 1963 suits." You walked from the back of his home, an area that he didn't even notice you wandered to. Finally getting bored, you open his door bidding your farewells.
Just before leaving you stop and with a cheeky grin say, "If you ever need anything just come on over. We Kamado's are known for our kindness."
Since then he'd been on edge around you. The point of relocating was for him to keep a low profile but now it seems he'd have to come face to face with an old nemesis reborn.
Muzan snapped out of his thoughts with a flinch as he pierced his hand with his nail. He watches the dark blood well up from the wound and drip down his wrist. In the end this world had long since lost its hostility dwindling the average human incapable of basic combat. Giving you were no doubt a great descendant, Muzan failed to see you as a true threat.
But one can never be too sure
🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢
You heard a knock on your door, soft and hesitant. "I don't think I'm expecting company." You checked your watch and peered out of a nearby window. It was at least 8 at night, you were braless wearing sweats with a red T-Shirt and on your way to bed.  In the back of your mind you visualize your two grand-uncles Inosuke and Zenitsu coming over to make you spectate their fights. For two old dudes they still had enough strength in them to do hip breaking nonsense.
You open the door shocked to see your next door neighbor standing before you. For once he wasn't wearing a suit that cost more than your house. His attire was still expensively dressed but in a more casual sense, that being a black dress shirt and slacks. His sleeves were rolled up displaying his pale skin. "Can I come in?" A dazzling smile you had never seen before practically blinds you as he walks past you into your home.
When Muzan walks in his eyes immediately dart to the clear as day Nichirin Blade sword displayed recklessly on your living room wall above your couch. "You like it?" A hand on his shoulder makes him jump, "Got it from my grandpa, he says it's really special but I feel like he's exaggerating. You know how old people are." Muzan shakes out of his stupor. "I don't quite understand what you mean by that, however I do know that it's much more wise to listen to your elders than ignoring…..It could save your life."
Muzan replicates you and puts a hand on your shoulder gently squeezing. This was it, he'd go in for the kill and it would be over, the amount of blood he'd pump into you would be enough to watch you meet a satisfying end of combustion completely untraceable if the police were to get involved. How he wishes he'd be there when your poor grandfather walks along your remains splattered on every surface in your living room. Unable to do a thing as he's finally in his last stretch of life.
The beauty.
Muzan's finger only twitches in the slightest before pain sparks from his own neck. "The thought of you coming into my own home unprovoked and at night no less, was the most obvious sign one could ask more." You had his hand gripped so tight your veins popped while your other hand held a small pocket knife that burned  brighter than any Nichirin sword he'd ever encountered. He didn't understand, he was quick enough to kill even the best of the ancient Hiroshima. So how did a little foreign girl like you get the upper hand?
It was embarrassing and almost laughable if any of his pillars were alive to tell the tale.
You press the blade harder before bringing your other hand to caress Muzan's cheek,  "Did you think I'd be just an ignorant descendant of an infamous hero?" You clicked your teeth disappointingly. "How naive, you've really become lazy after all these millennia huh?" You walk forward, pushing Muzan back with seductive strength. He allows you to push him into your couch,  I say allow because at any time he could have stopped you.
Muzan is most definitely not holding me at gunpoint right now.
The knife never wavers even as you climb into Muzan's lap, pressing it even closer against his jugular. "You do know getting beheaded will not kill me, and I doubt this petty little kitchen knife will get the job done in the first place." Your lips draw into a smirk and you press the knife closer as you trail it down his chest, "That may be true but it's gonna take one hell of a time for you to grow back." Your hand jerks down, popping his shirt buttons open.
Muzan watches with interest, your eyes light up as more skin becomes exposed. The tones of your dark skin contrast strikingly as you caress his pectoral with the tips of your fingers. "For a 1,000 year old grandpa you look decent." Still threatening his life with your blade, you kiss him. It's deep and carnal. Your lustful desires being made known as you grind in his lap. The flesh of your ass snuggly hotdogs the forming outline of his cock. "I've always wanted to be with a demon. You've had to of become a real freak after living this long!"
When you pull away Muzan's thin lips are pink and a bit swollen. He is out of breath despite needing none, "You have a lot of nerve for a mere human." With your free hand you loosen the belt of his slacks, only standing to pull them off, pleased when Muzan voluntarily raises his hips to aid you.
Don't get him wrong, he was still planning on killing you and ending your wretched bloodline once and for all, he just needed his mind to clear itself. Your scent, your confidence, strung him along like a puppet. His hands grip onto your ass cheeks like a lifeline. Molding them between his fingers, even giving them a shake through your sweats. His nails elongate and puncture the thick fabric as if it was nothing more than a spider web.
Your sweats are tugged off completely leaving your lower half nude. Muzan moves his hands to hold your ass again but your blade politely makes itself known. You are out of breath and clearly flustered. "Watch yourself, demon, I'm the one calling the shots, don't forget that." Muzan bites his tongue with sharp glare. He raises his hands in surrender, "Of course."
Muzan can feel your wetness against his leg and it's driving him insane. "Hey…" red eyes refocus on yours, "You ain't got any diseases do you? And you can't get me pregnant right?" Muzan smirks hands enclosing around your ass despite your protest. "I can, however it will cost a lot more than doing it once." The odds didn't seem in your favor but you were in no position to stand down and grab a condom and Muzan knew it.
You curve the blade towards his chin, "If you are lying and give me some ancient unknown disease or I find out you have superman sperm, I will kill you." Muzan links his lips, "Wasn't that the plan from the beginning or have you had a moment of level headedness?" Your wrist is quick and precise, cutting a thin slash along his jawline., not enough to scar and it barely even bled, but the threat was clear.
You grab Muzan's dick and use your thumb to attack the underside with fast strokes. Said man doesn't react outwardly, the only sign being his eyelids lowering by a fraction. "Were you always this well endowed or did you adjust this part too?" Muzan was not amused by your insinuation. Deciding to once again display the true power imbalance this situation had, he loops his arms underneath your large thighs and lifts you just enough to thrust his cock against your hole.
From there he let's go, making you plop down on his length, making you yelp and allowing him to lean back with a relaxed sigh. You were so warm and tight. Now even though I explained what had happened with great detail,  keep in mind that in reality it all happened within a fraction of a second.
Your large and in charge persona was cracking.  You gripped Muzan's sides tightly as your pussy spasmed around his girth. "F-Fuck it's too….." you trail off not wanting to give Muzan the credit he was truly due.
It takes a few moments for you to get your bearings all the while Muzan and his dangerous jaw swayed in the crevice of your neck. A viper playing with its prey. The blade is back against his neck once again making his cock twitch. If he were human this would be a dangerous feat.  Your grip never slacked nor lessened against his neck, slicing into a growing wound that dropped dark blood down his chest and to his abdomen.
His dick stretched your pussy and made it weap on each downstroke. Muzan's hands grip onto the cheeks of your ass with gritted teeth.  Your insides gripped him ever so slightly.  Sucking him back in as if he belonged there.  He felt used and it felt good.  His black ringlets stuck to his face from sweat and his red eyes grew in intensity.
He couldn't see much of your body, hell he could barely even touch. In the back of his mind humorous thoughts such as how he knew Tanjiro would lose his sanity if he knew his granddaughter was being bedded by the man he despised. But the more you bounced, the more you squeezed, the deeper you cut into his neck proved that you were truly the one in charge.
"Oh God you're so deep!" Your deep almond eyes shut themselves with pleasure. Muzan could feel your legs shaking with exertion at the same rhythm your pussy twitched. His balls felt tight after having no action in over a dozen years. "F-Faster." He has no care for your blade, only wanting to cum and feel the sweet ecstasy he knew your creamed pussy would provide. "Come on human, go faster." Muzan locks lips with you, gaze hardened and intent on proving some sort of point.
Tossing the knife you wrap your arms around his neck pulling his head closer. Red eyes target brown ones as his hands take a stronger grip on your ass. He uses his strength to bounce you. The sound of his balls slapping against the curve of your ass is just as disgusting as it is sexy. Your nipples rub against his through your tank-top making you both moan. The feeling blood stains your shirt making you shiver from the cool wetness
The couch you rest on bangs against the wall behind you the faster you both go. Muzan's feet are planted firmly in the ground, his fangs further elongated. He looks feral and it is in this moment where you get a glimpse of the horror many people felt when he took their lives. "Focus little Kamado, you wouldn't want to disappoint me now would you?"
Muzan's hips meet yours, spreading the tempo. Your juices coat his lap before finally you tense up completely into a cramp inducing stance as Muzan impaled you on his cock one last time. "Ahh.." Muzan empties himself within you with a relieved sigh.
Maybe the Kamado bloodline could go on.

Okay, so I've got the bulk of We'll Always Need Each Other Part 4 in the pipeline, will edit over the next few days and have it out hopefully on Thursday!
Here's a sneak peak:
The drive is not even 7 minutes from Med, yet it’s the most eternal drive Will has ever experienced in the back of an ambulance. With you as stable as you could be in transit, he lets the paramedic in charge do the work as he grasps your cold hand in his warm ones. Eyeing the monitor intermittently between studying your face, you were still so young, your life shouldn’t have ever been so close to ending. Your hand seems more fragile and tiny than it ever has in his, even more than when you were a literal toddler whom he used to carry on his shoulders.
Taking in the stillness of your body he’s reminded of the last time he had seen you similar to this. It makes him smile.
[Flashback]
“Will, hurry up, we’re going to be late!” You hollered from the living room.
“Alright, give me a second, Jay got the wrong size for this thing!” Will huffs from the bathroom, brushing his hair to suit the costume he was now stuffed into.
“This is ridiculous.” He mutters, shaking his head with a small chuckle, knowing how much you’d both hate and love his Halloween outfit.
He picks up his car keys and the two pumpkin buckets he had bought for collecting your candy. You were 15 but you were only growing to love Halloween more and more. This year District 21 was holding a party, and Jay had selected you and Will as a unified plus one. “Okay, alright. Let’s do this thing.”
Coming out to the living room he doesn’t see you, frowning in confusion as he could have sworn that’s where your voice had originated from. He doubles back to check in your room, only to find it empty.
“Y/N? Where are you, you goofball. Don’t you dare make me jump!”
He moves further into the living room, scanning carefully every conceivable nook and cranny before he spots a long object in front of the couch. A coffin.
He laughs now, heading towards the black vinyl box. Giving it a courtesy knock before lifting the lid.
There you were, in stunningly realistic makeup, hollow cheeks, pale skin, fangs protruding from your mouth, a velvet suit and cape squished into the plush lining of the prop coffin you’d managed to find. He hadn’t even seen that thing before now, when the heck had you got it into the apartment?
“You, you’re a creepy kid. And I love you for it. Good freaking job, short stuff!”
You crack an eye open, your luminous red lips turning up into a grin as you hold out a hand, waiting for Will to help you up and out of the coffin.
Springing to your feet you take in the sight of your big brother, snorting and chuckling as you realise what Jay had picked for him.
“Oh my god. Chucky? He got you a Chucky outfit? Dude, those dungarees are giving you a major wedgie. Nice job on the hair, you look SO weird, but awesome.”
“Don’t I know it, but it’ll do. And thanks, glad I could pass quality control.” He grins then falters into a grimace as he wiggles in his dungarees, a fake knife tucked into the front pocket. Bending to help you lift the coffin.
“I assume this is coming with us?”
“Duh!” You exclaim, swishing your cape as you grab one end to take down to Will’s car.
[End of Flashback]
Will gets Connor’s attention the second they’re through the ED doors with you, reeling off the injuries he knew about, had seen, had felt beneath his hands, knowing he couldn’t do anything for you now except wait and hope it would all be okay in the OR.

Do you have any Frozen Superhero AU ideas? I don't think I've seen any on your blog but you seem good at AUs and I was curious what you might have.
I actually started a Superhero AU like, years ago but I hit a dead end with it. Looking back, it’s kinda your typical cliche superhero origin story. I don’t think I’ll ever finish it.
But what I did enjoy about it was that Elsa, the one who becomes a superhero, didn’t start with her powers. She was normal, working as an environmental scientist, who comes in contact with a supernatural comet made completely out of ice that doesn’t melt. She studies it for a few years, and then one day it just kinda...explodes. And very much like what happened to Captain Marvel, Elsa absorbs all that energy and gains her icy powers.
It starts with her feeling progressively colder, like she’s stuck in a freezer she can’t get out of. Then she changes. Appearance-wise. I had her originally with her non-magic look with brown hair, hazel eyes, etc. But then as the powers slowly settle in, they start to change her appearance to the Elsa we all know and love with that near-white blonde hair and blue eyes. And needless to say, she kinda freaks out about it. Anna also doesn’t really help the situation, largely because she’s too much of a nerd freaking out about getting a superhero for a sister.
I’d be happy to share that scene. I still don’t think I’ll ever post the full story but honestly this scene was why I started writing it in the first place. So here it is, under the cut:
When Elsa reached her bedroom, she wasted no time changing into more comfortable clothes before flopping face-first onto her bed. She had suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion, and the bed felt so nice and soft underneath her that she began to drift off right away.
Then she shivered. It was a little cold in her room, seeing as Anna liked to blast the A/C in the summer months. With a small groan, she shifted so that she was partially covered by her sheets and comforter.
Just as she was about to fall asleep again, another much more violent shiver tore through her body. This time she buried herself in her bed, but she still felt uncomfortably cold. She reluctantly got up and staggered over to her closet, where there were a few spare blankets. She chose a thin knitted one, believing it would be enough seeing as it was summer and being cold now of all times was a bit ridiculous.
The blanket was not enough, and with an annoyed grumble she got up again and grabbed another blanket. This ritual continued for about twenty minutes. At one point she paused to throw on a thick wool sweater and socks, along with her warmest sweatpants. She curled up in a tight ball under a mountain of soft, warm fabric but still found herself shivering as if she was trapped outside in a blizzard.
Eventually, she rolled out of bed, temporarily giving up on sleep, and decided to go in search of the thermostat. She selected the softest, biggest and thickest blanket she owned and wrapped it around herself before heading out the door.
Downstairs, Gerda was busy making dinner for the girls while Anna was watching television. She left during commercials and walked into the kitchen to grab a soda from the fridge. “So she really wants to go back to work so soon after that incident?” Gerda wondered.
“Yeah, she’s kind of nuts,” Anna sighed with a shrug, “She has a terrible fear of ice because of one stupid accident that happened years ago, but she nearly gets herself blown up and it doesn’t even faze her. Go figure.”
They then heard someone coming down the stairs, and since Kai was in another room on the main floor, they knew who it was. Anna, still with her head in the fridge, could hear her sister coming, so she greeted, “Hey, Sleeping Beauty! How was your–”
She straightened up and closed the fridge door, revealing a very cold looking Elsa. “…nap? Um, you ok?” she asked uncertainly.
Elsa glared at her. “It’s f…freezing in here,” she stated coolly.
Anna quickly glanced down at what she was wearing herself: shorts and a tank top. She felt perfectly comfortable in it, too. “I think that’s a problem only you seem to be having, Els,” she told her shivering sister.
“Great,” Elsa said sarcastically. She then shuffled into the family room and flicked on the gas fireplace before plunking down in the chair closest to it. Anna and Gerda both watched in confusion as she wrapped herself up even more in her blanket and continued shivering.
“I’ll make her some tea,” Gerda suggested in a whisper. She then quickly went on to her task.
Anna slowly made her way back to her spot on the couch, and sat down. She no longer focused on the T.V., but instead stared at her sister. Elsa did not seem to notice, and if she had, she did not care. She was too busy trying to get warm again.
Anna was in deep thought. Her eyes then flicked down at one of her notebooks resting on the table, and suddenly an idea came to her. She discreetly reached for it and a pencil, and flipped it open to a page where she had drawn a rather complex flowchart.
“Hey, Elsa?” she asked carefully, “I was just wondering if, you know, you ever thought about superheroes?”
“Wh…what kind of qu…question is that?” Elsa shot back through chattering teeth.
“Well, I don’t know…” Anna said slowly, wincing slightly as she put forth the possibility, “Maybe because you’re about to become one?”
At this, Elsa cast her a look. “Anna, s…superheroes and superp…powers, don’t exist,” she stated dryly, “You w…watch too many m…movies.”
“Yeah, I do, and I read a lot of comic books, and here’s the thing: I made a flowchart a while back that is basically the formula, like, every superhero story uses as an origin for their heroes. And I hate to break it to you, but you’ve pretty much struck every nail on the head so far.”
“Oh r…really?” Elsa questioned with an eyebrow raised.
“Yep. Here, I’ll prove it,” Anna said confidently before looking down at her book, “Let’s see… You weren’t born with your power, which means you had to gain it. And so out of the different ways you could have gained it… Ah, here we go: lab accident.”
“Anna, just because I–”
“Ah! No interrupting! Now, in the lab, were you working with any of the following: something from space? Yes. Something radioactive? Yes. Something with strange properties that don’t normally exist in the physical world? Yes. See my point so far?”
“Superpowers aren’t real,” Elsa repeated in annoyance.
Anna continued, choosing to ignore that comment. “And when the accident happened, it did so in a way that left people wondering how you were even able to survive in the first place… Interesting, isn’t it, sis?”
Elsa rolled her eyes. “I’m not getting superpowers, Anna,” she stated firmly, “If anything, I’ve probably got some sort of radiation poisoning…” She paused for a moment before the full weight of that statement struck her. “Oh God, I probably have some sort of radiation poisoning!”
“Relax, Elsa, this is just the stage when your powers begin to manifest. Every superhero goes through this. You’ll be fine,” Anna said nonchalantly.
“Fine?” Elsa demanded, “I’m not going to be fine! Look at me! I’m freezing in the middle of June! This has to have something to do with being exposed to the energy that comet released when it exploded!”
“Well, duh! That’s part of the chart, too! ‘Are the powers related to whatever it was one was working with in the lab?’ You were working with weird space ice, and now you’re suddenly really cold. Coincidence, I think not!”
“Anna, this isn’t a game!”
“Of course it’s not, this is awesome! Now, are you experiencing any physical changes to appearance?” Anna studied her increasingly worried-looking sister. “You’re paler than normal.”
“Wh– Of course I am!” Elsa sputtered, “I’m about to have a panic attack here and you keep going on about superheroes? Besides, my complexion should be the least of my worries!”
Anna’s eyes suddenly widened. “Uh, yeah, you’re right,” she said blankly, “Worry about your hair instead.”
Elsa gave her another confused and annoyed glare. “I don’t really care so much about how I look at this moment, Anna!”
“Oh, I think you should.”
With an eye roll, Elsa reached for her long braid and brought it over her shoulder to see what her sister was going on about. Her eyes suddenly bulged and her jaw dropped open in shock as she stared at what should be pure, dark brown hair, which was now dark brown with white-blonde streaks running through it. She even had the luck of watching another chunk of hair suddenly turn white – from root to tip as if the platinum was a dye flowing out of her head.
“What?” she gasped.
“Um, I hate to alarm you, but your eyes are doing it, too,” Anna said nervously.
“What?” Elsa exclaimed. She leapt out of the chair and raced to the nearest bathroom. She got there just in time to watch the last of the brown be consumed by the off-white colour. Then her hazel eyes, which suddenly seemed more green than amber, changed hues completely and became a striking, sapphire blue.
“Anna!” she called in a strangled voice, “G…get in the car, now! We…we have to go to the hospital.”
“Whoa, Elsa! Look at you!” Anna gasped when she spotted her sister, “You look good as a blonde.”
“Just stop talking,” Elsa commanded as she staggered out of the bathroom and headed for the front foyer.
“Just what are you two going on about?” Gerda sighed as she came into view, “Oh my word… Elsa, what…happened, dear?”
Elsa wrapped her arms around herself. “I…I don’t know, but I think I should go to Emerge…now.”
“Alright, dear, alright,” the maid said as calmly as she could, “I’ll get Kai to take you. Kai!” The butler appeared and gasped when he saw his young charge’s new appearance. “We need to take Elsa to the hospital,” Gerda ordered.
He nodded, but before he could head off, Anna said loudly, “Would everyone calm down! There’s no need to take her to the hospital! Besides, comic book history sort of shows that doctors are normally worse than useless when it comes to superpowers.”
“Enough, Anna…” Elsa muttered as a warning as she made her way to the door.
“What on earth are you talking about?” Gerda demanded Anna.
Anna took a deep breath, and explained as quickly as she could, “Elsa doesn’t believe me, but I’m convinced that she’s getting superpowers because she meets all the requirements to do so. She just had a lab accident with something weird and radioactive from outer space, she survived something that would normally kill a person, she has been developing weird symptoms all relating back to the thing she was studying in the lab–”
Elsa, at this point, was done hearing Anna’s ramblings about nonsense. She was scared, and annoyed, and cold, and feeling something really weird swirling around in her head, heart and gut. “I said enough!” she yelled angrily. She whipped around and swung one arm out in a finalizing action, hoping that it would shut her sister up.
It did much more than that. She barely registered what was happening when something flew out of her hand when she swung it in front of her. There were audible gasps from Gerda, Kai, and Anna, along with a sound that reminded her of ice crackling and glass breaking. And suddenly she was staring at a strange, very sharp-looking formation of glowing ice just feet in front of her.
The silence that followed was broken by Anna: “…And that. She can also do that.”

We’re back everyone! Please help me welcome @profdanglaisstuff to the CSSNS!!!
Tumblr media
I just discovered Saira late last summer or early fall and she’s become a new favorite writer in that time. I am beside myself to welcome her to the event! Everyone go say hi!
Tumblr Name
@profdanglaisstuff
How long have you been in the CS/OUAT fandom?
Oh, gosh, this is actually a big question. I watched OUAT from the beginning but I was a pretty casual viewer for the first few seasons. I started having conversations online with other fans about the middle of S4 but I don’t know if that really qualifies as joining the fandom. The tipping point was when I started reading then writing fanfic and then joined Tumblr, then finally got involved in writing events like this one. That began last spring/summer, so actually not quite a year ago. It’s so weird to think how this has become such a major part of my life in such a short time.
When did you start shipping Captain Swan?
Also a big question! Not from the beginning. When Hook was introduced I was actually super into the idea of the hot pirate avenging his dead girlfriend, and I was honestly a bit annoyed when it became clear that they intended him for Emma. Watching them go up the beanstalk I remember thinking “Hold up, what about his epic lost love?” But their chemistry won me over in the end, certainly by the time they got to Neverland, and after the Kiss I was fully on board.
What drew you to this event?
I loved all the CSSNS stories I read last year and wanted to write one of my own, but I wasn't on Tumblr then and didn't know about these writing events and how they worked. So when Krystal asked me if I'd be interested in participating this year I didn't have to think too hard about my answer!
What inspired your topic?
Loads of things, really. Some of the fics I read last year definitely did, and the fairy tales I read as a child. But I mostly just love the idea of Emma as a witch, properly practicing magic, and I wanted to write more of that. (And Killian is cursed as a dog, you guys. He is SO CUTE. I've only written a tiny bit of this so far but he is freaking adorable and I love him.)
If you would like to share a snippet/sneak peek/summary of your fic or artwork, please use the space below.
“Killian?” she ventured.
At first there was no response, then she heard rustling in the underbrush and he appeared, tail a blur, carrying something in his mouth. He dropped it in front of her and sat, tail still wagging, sending leaves and dirt flying as it brushed along the forest floor. She examined his offering, a small parcel formed of folded leaves. Within she found a carefully selected collection of berries and nuts. He’d brought her breakfast.
“How did you manage this?” she laughed. His tail thumped against the ground and she could swear he grinned. “You’re such a clever boy,” she cooed, scratching behind his ears, just on the spot that he loved, laughing as his back leg began to twitch.
Who/what have you beta'd before, or is this your first time? Feel free to give as much info as you like.
I've done a bit of beta-ing here and there for various people in January Joy and March Madness this year, but this is the first time I'll be an official, dedicated beta.
What are you looking forward to most about participating in this event?
Definitely working closely with an artist to come up with an original piece to go with my story. Some of the art from last year was just stunning. People have very kindly made picsets for me in the past (shout out to @hollyethecurious and @rouhn ) since I am completely hopeless at graphic art myself, and I am always thrilled to see that kind of talent in action.
Oh my word!!!!! Give me Killian puppy any day of the week and twice on Sunday!!!! Soooo cute!!! Can’t wait for Saira’s fic to drop on August 17!!! Everyone go welcome her to the event and give her some love!!!

edc 2018 review
first timer at this event. i've been to smaller festivals for one day (escape twice, countdown nye, beyond wonderland, hard day of the dead) and a handful of shows.
some things to know: i am older, almost 30. i have done my fair share of partying in my 20s, so my body can't handle too much partying anymore. admittedly, i was scared i wouldn't be able to hang that long all 3 days. my bf has a lot more energy than i, so i didnt want to disappoint him by not being able to last! ended up doing a lot of research and planning ahead so i could pace myself.
i ended up really enjoying myself!
stay: i booked a hotel in hendersen thursday night and the next 3 nights booked an airbnb at a woman's house in north las vegas. without traffic was only a 15 min drive, with traffic about half an hour. not much traffic on our route though, so that was a plus. was also near a lot of food and stores, so very convenient. place ended up being gated and safe.
travel: first day we left fairly early around 430p and took uber for around $12. leaving around 330a though uber x wait was suuuuper long, waited a good 20 mins before someone suggested requesting an uber select or xl to get something quicker. ended up getting an uber select within minutes... for $88 😵. i mean it was $20 more than uber x so i thought it was worth it to not wait. the next two days we ended up driving our rental. left a little later like around 7pm and ended up getting in by 830p. i was scared the parking and lines would be ridiculous but getting there at that time ended up being pretty smooth. didnt wait much. (maybe camp edc this year really helped!) but i also read to not leave to go to the festival after 9p because thats when u end up sitting in traffic forever. i think it also helped a ton that we werent staying near the strip and we were fairly close to the speedway. on the second night we left around 3am only to get to our rental and discover wed lost the keys inside!!! freaked out, as anyone would. thankfully my bf calmed me through it and we were so lucky to have found the keys where we last sat at the carnival square 🙏🏻 that trek back and forth killed my body though. but it all worked out and was grateful! leaving around 4am second night and around 330am third night ended up smooth, no traffic. kinda regret not staying until sunrise at least one of the days, maybe night one, but i was pretty scared of the traffic. heard ppl wait hours in it so i really wanted to avoid it. overall, travel and getting in and out did not seem to be much of a hassel at all :)
rides: since we got in early the first day we managed to be on the first gondola wheel ride which was great. didnt ride anything after that because of the lines but if i were more patient and had stronger legs id try and wait to ride more.
food and drinks: so expensive and not worth it. spent $39 on two drinks with one shot each the first day and didnt dare spend more after that. its impossible to get a buzz unless you spend over $100. second day bought a small bottle and drank before entering which gave a good buzz but had to pee so bad in the security and check in line. luckily the wait wasnt long. tried the mac and cheese, cheese pizza, and fries with cheese.... all cost over $10 each. make sure u eat well before entering and if u plan on drinking good luck.
bathrooms: tread carefully lol. over 100k people each night. they do their best but its really hard to keep everything clean. try to use the stalls at the top of the stadium when u first get in. stalls at carnival square were so hot and musty.
the music and stages: wish i checked out more tbh. im reading about how the vibes at wasteland were great and never got to check it out. hung out mostly at circuit grounds and kinetic field.. really wish i walked around way more and checked out art cars and other stages. i spent a lot of time resting bc like i said im old and body needs rest haha. loved kaskade!! best set for me. hardwell threw down so that was fun, energy at circuit grounds was wild. martin garrix was great too. zedd was fun and good vibes as always but ive seen him like 10 times so it was predictable. suffered through dimitri vegas and like mike waiting for kaskade.. that was not fun for me. saw a bit of slander, illenium (cosmic meadows was packed for him), and zeds dead. the stages were so great.
i loved the attention to detail about this whole event. the lights, the stages, the decorations, the art cars, the cast members etc. its such a beautiful sight especially from the bleachers.
we didnt talk to many people unfortunately but the vibe still was great. i will say i read a lot of reports about pick pocketers. we were lucky not to have encountered those, but with any event you'll have your bad apples. also be careful of the undercovers. didnt see any myself but you never know whos watching you. always good to be sensible and safe. for all the bad theres also tons of people looking out for each other, which is great, offering snacks or water or even to fan you. everyones there to have a good time, so always know your limit and pace yourself and if someone looks like they need help dont be afraid to lend a hand!
overall had a great experience and would definitely go again! gotta really get fit so i can hang longer. other little festivals just wont be the same anymore after experiencing such a big event like this one.
will i have money for next year? we'll see.. but i definitely will be going again in the future
