FORMULE 1 Magazine, 2017, number 6
former go-kart opponents about Max
Dave Blom karted against Verstappen in 2011 and 2012
"I used to defeat Max sometimes: on the Playstation. I wasn't in school, he wasn't in school so we'd be racing against each other four, five hours in a day. We were both incredibly competitive. Still are actually. When Max has time we play a game of FIFA against each other online. And he'll be laughing again when he wins and when I win it's the same. Because we're two years apart in age, I used to kart in a higher class than him but we did hang out together.
"In 2011 we truly met on track for the first time. At a high level: the European and World Championships. During practice I was sometimes faster but in the races Max always finished ahead of me. He was so immediately focused and fast after the start. After the first corner we already couldn't overtake him any more. Max and Jos also did everything to be able to win. Their engines and chassis were always very good. If, after practices before a race, they felt it didn't go quite well, they'd go to a different track in the evening to keep testing. There was so much passion behind it.
"I remember a race in Japan. I was fifth, Max third. Suddenly I see him overtaking those two before him in one turn just like that. Incredible move, is what you think then. That's what you see in F1 now as well. He plans his moves where you don't expect them, puts the car alongside, you lose your concentration for a second and he's gone already. Unfortunately for me it was financially impossible to make the move to racecars. Sometimes I still visit the track, as a driver's coach. I now work as a salesman at a BMW-dealership. Max and I have always kept in touch; he's a good friend of mine. I talk to him regularly and celebrated New Year's at his place in Monaco. In May I'll see him again at the Monaco GP."

The Importance of Healthy Relationships: Addressing Inappropriate Dynamics
1. Understanding the Risks of Inappropriate Relationships
In recent years, there have been numerous cases highlighting the dangers of inappropriate relationships between adults and minors. For instance, high-profile cases such as those involving individuals like Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State football coach convicted of child molestation, illustrate how predatory behavior can manifest in seemingly innocuous relationships. Such cases remind us of the importance of safeguarding children from exploitative dynamics.
2. Media Influence on Perceptions of Relationships
Children’s media plays a significant role in shaping perceptions about relationships. When shows depict romantic relationships between characters with significant age differences or power imbalances, it can normalize unhealthy dynamics. In Sofia the First, while Cedric is an adult and Sofia is a child, their relationship is portrayed as one of mentorship and friendship rather than romance. This distinction is crucial in teaching young viewers about appropriate boundaries.
3. Real-World Examples of Predatory Behavior
There are numerous documented cases where adults have exploited their positions of trust to engage in inappropriate relationships with minors. For example:
-R. Kelly: The R&B singer was convicted for sexual exploitation of minors, highlighting how fame and power can lead to predatory behavior.
-Larry Nassar: The former USA Gymnastics doctor was sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing young athletes under his care, demonstrating how authority figures can manipulate vulnerable individuals. These examples underscore the importance of educating children about boundaries and recognizing when a relationship is inappropriate.
Jerry Sandusky: As a former assistant coach at Penn State University, Sandusky was convicted of sexually abusing young boys over a period of years. His position of power allowed him to manipulate and exploit vulnerable children who looked up to him as a mentor.
The Case of YouTuber Austin Jones: In 2017, Austin Jones was arrested for allegedly soliciting explicit videos from underage girls. He used his platform as a popular musician to groom young fans by establishing trust through personal interactions and then manipulating them into sharing inappropriate content.
The TikTok Grooming Incident: In 2020, several reports surfaced about TikTok users who were minors being groomed by older users posing as friends or mentors. These predators would create fake accounts and engage with minors through direct messages, gradually desensitizing them to inappropriate conversations before attempting to exploit them.
The Case of Katelyn Nicole Davis: Katelyn was a young girl who tragically took her own life after being subjected to online bullying and harassment. Before her death, she had been groomed by an adult male who manipulated her into sharing personal information and engaging in inappropriate conversations. Her story underscores the devastating impact that online grooming can have on vulnerable youth.
The "Sextortion" Cases: Numerous cases have emerged involving predators who groom children online before coercing them into sending explicit images. Once they have these images, they threaten to share them with friends or family unless the child complies with further demands. This form of exploitation has become increasingly common with the rise of social media
4. The Role of Platonic Relationships in Media
By focusing on platonic relationships like that between Sofia and Cedric, Sofia the First provides a model for healthy interactions that emphasize respect and support without romantic implications. This is vital in helping children understand that friendships can be deeply meaningful without crossing into inappropriate territory.
Conclusion: Advocating for Healthy Boundaries
As we celebrate Magical Friendship Week, it's essential to recognize the importance of promoting healthy friendships over romantic relationships in children's media. By emphasizing platonic connections, we can help foster an understanding of appropriate boundaries and empower young viewers to recognize and reject unhealthy dynamics in their lives.

Werewolf Books & Movie Recs
I commented on this post with werewolf book and movie recs, and I wanted to cross-post it here because it was so fun to make!
The original post mentions Teen Wolf, American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, Dog Soldiers, Van Helsing movies, Disney's Werewolf-By-Night special, Wolfwalkers, Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in the Dungeon, After Dark Webtoon, Night Class comic, Bisclavret, Trick R Treat, Werewolf Fever, Strippers VS Werewolves, and Bad Moon.
Books (links to Storygraph)
Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaugh - tries to have a more realistic take on werewolves and pack dynamics. A kickass radio DJ heroine, the fall of the Masquerade, and various horror show adventures
Her Wolf in the Wild by Rien Gray - butch biker werewolf romance in the American Southwest by an author with a golden touch. I love everything they write!
Queer Werewolves Destroy Capitalism by MJ Lyons - smutty m/m erotica collection with two stories featuring a werewolf and his trans mage boyfriend destroying capitalism
The Alchemy of Moonlight by David Ferraro - A YA gay gothic romance wherein a marquis disguises himself as a servant and discovers his new employers have a very furry secret
Wolfsong by TJ Klune - this one has been recommended to the moon and back, but for good reason! Ox is reunited with a mysterious boy and it's time to solve a murder.
Mead Mishaps series, Book 2: That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf by Kimberly Lemming - I ADORE this series. Bloody and cozy with delicious world-building, great humor, and hot smut. You can read it out of order, but after one you'll likely want to read them all.
Bored Gay Werewolf by Tony Santorella - New Adult coming of age where a gay slacker werewolf gets a life coach who is a little too helpful
Squad graphic novel by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Sterle - a YA coming-of-age about a girl who joins a werewolf pack that dedicates itself to eating one rapist every month.
Find even more on Book Riot's 8 Werewolf Books From Around the World, 50 Must Read Werewolf Romance Books, Leaders of the Pack
Movies (links to IMDB)
As Boas Maneiras (2017) - Brazilian lesbian film about a nanny who falls for her employer while also growing increasingly worried about the child growing inside
The Wolfman (1941) - Lon Chaney Jr's many appearances as Larry Talbot are really great to help understand the popularization of the werewolf as uncontrolled id. His films are the ancestor of American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, and Van Helsing movies. Also, yanno, they're easy to find online or at libraries. As a product of its time, there are anti-Romani slurs and racist language, so take care while watching
My Animal (2023) - sapphic werewolf horror/romance where young love brings out the animal within
Bloodthirsty (2020) - an indie singer joins colleagues on a remote retreat to create new music, but starts having dreams of hunger and the hunt.
Jack and Diane (2012) - Two young sapphic women meet in New York and sparks fly. Except when Jack informs Diane that she plans to move soon, Diane's possessive nature turns hairy.

illicit affairs au
character introductions + moodboards
concept: loosely based on illicit affairs by taylor swift
couple: sadie mercer x jack hughes
warnings: mention of covid-19
summary: sadie's life growing up with her 3 siblings and how she ended up at rutgers university :)
lowercase intended
background
hockey flowed through the entire mercer family as sadie's dad, craig mercer, coached hockey. dawson, the eldest child, of course loves hockey and would play in the qmjhl and then the nhl. sadie's younger brother riley, also loves hockey and plays in the qmjhl. jessica, the youngest mercer child, followed in her brothers footsteps of playing hockey, but she also enjoyed playing volleyball at school. so it was a shocker to everyone that the second mercer kid wouldn't play hockey.
sadie mercer liked to skate and play around with her siblings growing up on frozen ponds throughout their small town of carbonear, newfoundland. but she never felt the same connection as they did to the sport of hockey. all throughout elementary school, sadie went around trying to find the sport she would love as much as her siblings loved hockey. she tried soccer, softball, volleyball, and all of the other sports canada had to offer, but nothing clicked for her. sadie would try out for a team, make it, play about 3 weeks and then have the same conversation with her mom,
"it's just boring, i don't want to play anymore"
her family was supportive of her decisions to find the sport she loved, but she eventually was reaching the end of her possible sports list. somehow, sadie was able to drag her dawson with her to a swim team tryout over the summer.
"i don't see why i have to go with you, you're only going to swim for 2 weeks and then you'll be on your way to tryout for some other sport"
"i swear this is the last one, i feel it in my bones"
dawson only swam for a season with her, but ever since that tryout in the summer of 2011, sadie mercer was hooked on the pool.
when dawson was drafted in the 2020 draft first round by the new jersey devils, the whole family had never been so excited. honestly, the whole town of carbonear, newfoundland had never been so excited, and sadie was over the moon that her brother would be going to new jersey. dawson had already left newfoundland back in 2017 to play in the qmjhl, while sadie stayed in newfoundland throughout highschool with her other two siblings, riley and jessica. after sadie graduated, riley went to play in the q as well for the 2020-21 season. and as much as sadie loved her little sister and her parents, she wanted to branch out from newfoundland like her brothers and go somewhere else for university.
when sadie had the opportunity to talk to universities in the united states to be recruited to swim in college, she took it straight away. sadie was so excited that she was noticed by a university for swimming and her dreams were coming true. as much as she loved canada and newfoundland, the united states was the dream and swimming division 1 was it for her. when rutgers university reached out to sadie during fall of her senior year, she was on cloud 9. until covid-19 hit the world. of course, the whole world was affected but as an athlete, the pandemic hit hard. with all the new rules in place, if sadie went to rutgers, it would be almost impossible for her to come home periodically and constantly quarentine. so, sadie decided she would take the 2020-21 fall and spring semesters online from the safety of her family home in canada, but in doing this, she wouldn't be able to swim until her sophomore year at rutgers.
this leads to sadie and dawson taking on new jersey together in 2021, and where sadie mercer and jack hughes' story begins..

I peeped his uncles coaching history literally right after he retired he went off to buffalo sabres to assist coach from 2006-2013 - then to dallas till he got dropped in 2017, but continued to coach in the whl till now @ other anon he never coached OHL
If anon states she said her dad coached OHL it’s then already debunked they’ve never coached together what so ever, let alone even know each other.
I doubt her dad was up coaching in the NHL either… very unlikely, nothing with her life story lines up with that possibility either… you can also look at all the coaching staff/trainers who were on the team during all these periods of time all online. Let’s face it if you even snooped you’d find out real quick he’s definitely not coached one season of any of these teams 🤷🏻‍♀️
It’s pretty simple to say shes made stuff up and grabbed small details of their lives you can easily get online n stated she knows them.

The All Blacks compete in the Lipovitan-D Rugby Championship Test Match Series and face a formidable 2023 with the Rugby World Cup in France in September and October. However, before that, they must deal with home test matches against a formidable South Africa team and the eagerly anticipated Bledisloe Cup match against Eddie Jones’ Australia.
On August 5, the All Blacks will play a rare afternoon home Test match at Forsyth Barr Stadium (2.35 PM start time), bringing the Bledisloe Cup back to Dunedin for the first time since 2017. All Blacks Hospitality anticipates that the Bledisloe Cup test match will be in high demand because there will only be one test match played on the South Island in 2023. To avoid disappointment, we advise you to confirm your hospitality requirements as early as feasible.
2023 Second Bledisloe Cup All Blacks will play home Test match at Forsyth Barr Stadium
In the All Blacks final home Test of the year against Australia on Saturday afternoon in Dunedin, assistant coach Jason Ryan says there is still more to work for. The breakdown will be one area of focus following the 38-7 Lipovitan-D Rugby Championship and Bledisloe Cup victory in Melbourne on Saturday.
Ryan claimed that the match had been intensely physical, as one could anticipate from a Bledisloe Cup match.
The Australians had displayed some excellent play at the breakdown.
“They put pressure on us there, and we occasionally lost our rhythm. I believe that our carry contributed to the breakdown in some way, so we’ll seek to adjust a few things there with our height. However, as we regained some momentum and began to play quickly, we felt fairly confident.

Howdy! Saw your hyperspecific poll, you mentioned OM in it. Do you also think that it's scandalous that it's so... poorly known? For me, personally, it's super weird - it's a HUGE international competition that draws tens of thousands of contestants every year, but when you ask online, NOBODY even as much as HEARD about it. I decided to quit in 2017, but still horribly miss it - I wear my 6-year-old Odyssey tee all the time and considered joining again on multiple occasions.
What are your best OM-related memories? Did you ever make it to World (my team never managed to, my coach, however, had one that did)? Did you also learned all of those rather difficult mechanical skills at a ridiculously young age? Do you ever miss it? I'm sorry for the dump, but it's literally the first time I meet another person that did Odyssey outside of the competition itself.
yo ok so i only did om for a year so i can’t really tell you shit lmao
bout your main question: no, it never really affected me? i don’t live in the states, so i had no metric as to how popular it is until i found out from a discord server with Real Americans about destination imagination (hiss hiss /j).
the second half of your ask can basically be answered with: our coaches had a very “go big or go home” kinda mindset (i.e. if you don’t look like you can win worlds we won’t send you at all), so my team didn’t go to worlds (but two of my schools’ did that year, and both won their respective categories). i don’t really miss om because of how hard it was (+ how hard the coaches rode us) but i think additional factors include that worlds is in april (so americans have the whole school year to prepare) but our school year starts in january (so we had about 2-3 months) and we were all stressed All The Time lol
so yeah that basically sums up my om experienceđź‘Ť thanks for the ask lol

Physics Wallah: The Tale of Alakh Pandey's Passion
Once upon a time in a bustling city in India, there lived a young man named Alakh Pandey. Alakh was known for his extraordinary love for physics. From a very young age, he was captivated by the mysteries of the universe and the laws that governed them. His curiosity knew no bounds, and he spent countless nights under the stars, pondering questions about the cosmos.
Alakh's passion for teaching was equally strong. He believed that education was the key to unlocking the potential of the human mind. However, he noticed that many students struggled with physics because they found it difficult and intimidating. Determined to change this, Alakh decided to pursue a career in teaching, with a dream of making physics fun and accessible for all.
After completing his education, Alakh began teaching at local coaching centers. His unique teaching style, which combined humor, real-life examples, and clear explanations, quickly gained popularity among students. They fondly started calling him "Physics Wallah," a name that perfectly captured his essence.
Despite his success, Alakh realized that his reach was limited to the students who could attend his classes in person. He wanted to reach out to students across the country, especially those in remote areas who didn't have access to quality education. Inspired by the power of the internet, Alakh decided to take his classes online.
In 2017, he launched his YouTube channel, "Physics Wallah," where he began uploading free physics lessons. His videos were an instant hit. Students from all over India started following his channel, and his subscriber count grew rapidly. Alakh's dedication and passion shone through his lessons, making complex concepts easy to understand and enjoyable to learn.
As the channel grew, Alakh realized the need for a more structured approach to help students prepare for competitive exams like JEE and NEET. He decided to create an online platform offering comprehensive courses, live classes, and study materials. With the help of a small but dedicated team, "Physics Wallah" evolved into a full-fledged ed-tech company.
The journey wasn't without its challenges. Alakh faced numerous obstacles, from technical glitches to financial constraints. However, his unwavering commitment to his mission kept him going. He often reminded his team and students of a famous quote by Albert Einstein: "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
Over time, "Physics Wallah" became a household name in India. The platform's success was not just measured by the number of subscribers or revenue, but by the countless success stories of students who overcame their fear of physics and achieved their dreams.
Alakh Pandey's journey from a passionate teacher to the founder of a revolutionary education platform is a testament to the power of dedication, innovation, and the desire to make a difference. His story continues to inspire millions, proving that with the right blend of passion and perseverance, even the biggest challenges can be transformed into stepping stones to success.
