I'm finally watching the anime adaptation of Sasaki to Miyano and I'm so happy they got an anime! I'm just annoyed somewhat with some of the fans? They're praising it cause it's not toxic unlike other BL and while I don't like toxic fictional ships as much either, I feel uncomfortable seeing those comparison comments since many anti-fujo/anti-BL posts like using those type of stories as reason to harass others. Reading "this one isn't toxic!" feels like a jab at other BL series/fans.

Yeah no, I hate when those kinds of people get their hooks into a particular BL series because it's like

1. Liking this one doesnt make you better just its "uwu pure"

2. This is not the only pure uwu BL out there and maligning the category as being full of toxicity just to praise this one is real shitty and shows you haven't even attempted to consume anything else in the category - I've got a whole list of uwu pure recs if that's your particular cup of tea (because it's also mine), Sasaki to Miyano isn't special in this regard

and you know, it's (internalized) homophobia striking again (with yknow a touch of Not Like Other Gays Girls, as usual) - it's a category of fiction, it's allowed to have varying dynamics and a BL showcasing a toxic couple doesn't make it lesser than one showcasing the most cavity inducing romance you've ever seen. It doesn't have to be my cup of tea to be okay.

Queer media is allowed to be complex, it's allowed to be dark and sick and disturbing, just as much as it's allowed to be sweet and calming and beautiful. Queer media is allowed to be varied, just like every other media is.

(It's also really funny how every time a new BL gets animated it always feels like people immediately go "FINALLY, a PURE and WHOLESOME bl to watch, this has NEVER been done its so REFRESHING", completely forgetting the last three BL they had the same reaction to dhxjxjx people already did this with Given they did it with Umibe no Etranger they did it with Doukyuusei - on and on)
