Here's my offering for day one of Hellbrand and Ghouladriel Week aka Hellghoul Week!

I chose the day one prompt, 'Leaves'.

I hope you enjoy the following 900 words of domestic Halloween/Autumn/Fall fluff! With a tiny sprinkling of angst of course!

They were the colours she always loved, autumn leaves covering the earth, a neverending sunset. She watched content from the second story window as the life she made worked and played happily beneath her. Two pairs of feet, of man and child, disturbing the leaves as they walked over them.

Halbrand in his flannel, sleeves rolled up, raking up the brittle streams of gold, red, and brown. Celebrían doing everything in her power to make sure her father’s work lasted all afternoon. Galadriel sipped her hot chocolate, soothed by its warmth as well as the warmth from below.

Her daughter loved playing hide and seek. She wasn’t sure why. Celebrían wasn’t old enough yet to understand what it meant to be lost and found. But there was something that twinkled in her eye, her smile and how it lit up her face, every time Halbrand discovered her. It brought Galadriel back to that same feeling of wonder that encompassed her when Halbrand came into her life. Rescuing her as if she was drowning in a sea of sorrow, pulling her onto a raft, his raft, the safety of his embrace.

Celebrían wasn’t old enough yet to know Halbrand wasn’t her real father.

She would, in time, and Galadriel suspected it wouldn’t change much. It wouldn’t change the way her little girl looked at him, as if he hung the moon and stars. However, It would change the way she looked at her mother.

Casting aside thoughts of the past and of a future that had not yet come to pass, Galadriel laughed as she saw Celebrían jump into Halbrand’s very large pile of fallen leaves. He went along with it of course, playing his role to perfection, pretending like he hadn’t heard the very loud whoosh and crunch sounds of a little girl covering herself with autumn. That neverending sunset. Celebrían playing a game to ensure this afternoon with her father would go on and on.

Halbrand caught Galadriel watching them from above, that smile of his flying straight into her heart. Along with the kiss he sent into the air, before her husband went back to trying to find the ‘missing’ girl. Galadriel opened the window wanting to hear the whole thing fully.

“That’s odd… I swear I saw Celebrían not a minute ago…” Halbrand was so good at this, acting confused, feigning a distraught state. She knew he was good, because she could see the leaves of the pile moving, like shoulders shaking from laughter. Halbrand was good at this but Celebrían… not so much.

“Where could she have gone? Not behind the bushes? Not behind the shed? In the shed?” He checked. He didn’t have to check, but he checked. “Hey Mummy? You see a tiny silver haired girl? About–” Halbrand gestured her size, “This big?” Galadriel couldn’t help but laugh as she saw her five year old daughter pop her head out of the pile, a tiny digit pressed to her lips asking Mummy to be quiet. “No Daddy, sorry! My eyes see all! And they do not see her.” Galadriel bellowed down, before taking another sip from her mug, nearly spitting it everywhere as she watched Celebrían desperately try to hide beneath the leaves again.

“Oh no…” Halbrand began, sounding ‘scared’, “If Daddy can’t find her… and Mummy can’t see her… I guess that means we’ll be going trick or treating all alone…” “No!” The little girl cried out, bursting out of the pile, sending flashes of orange and brown everywhere. “Got you!” Halbrand yelled, making Celebrían squeal in delight. Then she couldn’t help but to toss some leaves in his direction. Her throw wasn’t strong enough, but the wind helped her out.

Halbrand copped a face full of nature.

Galadriel burst into laughter, the wind helping her out, carrying it right to his ears. “Oi!” He chuckled. “That’s not very nice! Let’s see how you like this then!” He picked up some leaves of his own and poured them over Celebrían’s head. “No, Daddy!” She protested, poorly, her giggles telling him how much she was enjoying this.

Then Galadriel watched from her window, as her husband threw himself into the pile and tackled their daughter, rolling them around in a fit of laughter and screams, spreading the leaves back across the lawn. All of Halbrand’s work undone in less than ten seconds. But she knew he wouldn’t mind.

He would also happily see this afternoon go on and on.

When finally they got to their feet, Galadriel had her phone out, snapping pictures of her two favourite people, wanting to remember this day she knew would eventually end. Like the sunset. Like autumn. Like all things.

Halbrand picked Celebrían off the ground and pointed up to where Galadriel was perched. The tiny silver haired child couldn’t help but wave. The two of them were covered in leaves, twigs, and dirt. “How about we go pay Mummy a visit, hmm?” “No!” Came Galadriel’s cry, genuinely protesting. “You know she likes autumn leaves as much as you do, Celly.” “No, you clean up first!” “You don’t want her to miss out, do you now?”

Celebrían shook her head with a cheeky grin. A grin that matched Halbrand’s. Blood didn’t matter. She really was his daughter. And they both howled up at her as they ran indoors, Galadriel hearing their thumping footfalls and their giggles coming up the stairs.

She resigned herself to her messy fate. It was a good thing she loved leaves.

Gwen is great at meeting deadlines. In her line of work, things are often literally life and death, so that's a pretty good motivator.

🌹 [ROSE] Does your OC believe in true love? Why?

She definitely does. Why else would she go to the ends of the earth and be willing to lose everything for a boy shed only meet two days earlier?

🍄 [MUSHROOM] How likely is your OC to eat random berries/mushrooms they find?

Not at all.

Gwen loves fall. She loves to drive through the countryside looking at the changing leaves.

She thinks they're so fun!

Dairy is her favorite (especially peanut butter ice cream)

A sunflower. She's bright and fun and always looking for the light, but she's also study and tough enough to weather a storm. It stands for strength, happiness, confidence, self-esteem, ambition, devotion, healing, inspiration, loyalty, nourishment, opportunity, pride, vitality, warmth, and wealth

🌻 [SUNFLOWER] Where would your OC get lost in the moment/beauty of the place?

On one of their first dates, Tequila took her hiking in the mountains. They went up this trail for a few miles and at the end there was a ridge with a huge waterfall cascading down into a crystal clear river. The sun was shining on it and they're were rainbows glinting in the spray. It was breathtaking.

Yellow roses and sunflowers because I admire her and would want to be her friend.

🌾 [RICE SHEAF] How picky is your OC with food? What will and won't they eat?

She's mildly picky. She'll try anything once but she knows what she likes. She will NOT eat haggis!

🌿 [HERB] Is your OC religious? What do they believe in?

Gwen's not actively religious. She likes to go to church sometimes on holidays just for tradition's sake and she pays when things are especially dire but mostly she just believes in being nice and trying to do as much good as she can.

Gwen would go to themes of the earth for the people/things she cares about. She would also go to war to fight something she hates.

D. Fall cleaning at Ramshackle

🍂 It was the weekend, a perfect time to get some fall cleaning done at Ramshackle. You, Grim, and the Ramshackle ghosts procrastinated on fall cleaning for so long that the fallen autumn leaves began to pile up in the yard.

🍂 The Ramshackle ghosts spent the afternoon raking the fallen leaves into neat piles, while Grim scurried around the dorm’s halls to mop the floors. You were in charge of taking out the thicker blankets and clothing for you and Grim.

🍂 The soft wool of one of your sweaters tickled your hands as you folded the sweater and tucked it into your drawer in your and Grim’s upstairs bedroom. Your random and cheerful humming halted as a wave of nostalgia and sadness washed over you.

🍂 Fall cleaning suddenly made you remember that you weren’t from Twisted Wonderland; that your chaotic yet somehow-now-beautiful life at Night Raven College could change someday or fade away if Crowley ever found you a way back to your world.

🍂 You then thought about how you had taken on so many tasks and basically worked your butt off everyday just to be able to live on campus. Running around doing Crowley’s tasks, dealing with students’ Overblots, making sure more students weren’t Overblotting…the list went on and on.

🍂 Your thoughts led you to wonder what your world was up to right now; if people in your world were also doing fall cleaning. What were your family or friends doing without you right now? How were they doing without you?

🍂 Even though you found family in your friends from the various NRC dorms, in Grim and the Ramshackle ghosts, and your partner Leona, your heart ached for the world you once knew that was changing seasons without you.

🍂 Tears pricked the corners of your eyes and before you knew it, you ran out of your room and down the rickety wooden staircase. You almost stumbled at the bottom, causing two of the Ramshackle ghosts (I named them Ramsey and Allen -🍓) to pause their chores.

🍂 “Where are you going, Y/N?” Ramsey hummed as he wiped away the dust on the glass lanterns that hung on the hallway’s walls.

🍂 “Yes, what’s wrong, dear?” Allen gazed at you in concern with his translucent, robin-egg-blue eyes. The two ghosts then noticed your tears, but before they could approach you, you ran past them and out the door without a word.

🍂 Your footsteps thudded on the cobblestone pavement as you ran away from Ramshackle and out onto the main path of campus. You continued running, passing the almost-barren trees with orange and yellow leaves and the students bundled up in coats and sweaters, which were all but a blur.

🍂 Soon, your feet halted inside the unoccupied Mirror Chamber, and you stared at the Dark Mirror before you. The mirror that brought you to Twisted Wonderland.

🍂 “Why?” you sobbed, breaking down in front of the ancient mirror gilded with carved motifs of a golden crown and two serpents facing opposite of each other on either side of the crown. “Why did you bring me here? Why me? You could’ve chosen anyone else to bring to Twisted Wonderland besides me. Why am I here?”

🍂 The mirror’s ebony glass only answered you with its painfully silent reflection of you in tears. Below the mirror, a four-tiered royal-purple fountain filled the silence of the chamber with gurgles from its poison-apple-green liquid.

🍂 “Will I ever find a way back h—,” you cried, but before you could say “home,” someone’s familiar footsteps at the door greeted you.

🍂 “I knew you would be here.” You turned around to find Leona leaning against the door frame, his hands tucked in his school uniform pants pockets. “When I arrived at Ramshackle to help ya clean, Ramsey and Allen told me ya ran off somewhere in tears.”

🍂 Without another word, Leona approached you. He wrapped one arm around your back to pull you gently into a hug. As you buried your face into Leona’s marigold school uniform vest, your tears flowed freely down your cheeks.

🍂 “I still don’t understand why the mirror brought me to Twisted Wonderland!” you sobbed as you clung to Leona.

🍂 Leona didn’t interrupt you; he only nuzzled the top of your head and rubbed circles onto your back. He wanted you to let everything out: your frustrations, your sadness, your pain…all of it.

🍂 After a few minutes of letting your cries echo throughout the Mirror Chamber, Leona spoke up. “I don’t know why you were brought here, either,” Leona replied in a soft tone, flicking his summer-green eyes up to the still Dark Mirror. “This isn’t gonna sound so reassuring, but the Dark Mirror probably brought you here for a reason. It doesn’t make mistakes on who it brings to Night Raven College. I’m not sure what the reason to why you’re here is, but the only thing I’m sure of is that I’m thankful the Dark Mirror gave me the chance to meet you.”

🍂 You brought your head up from Leona’s chest and gazed up at him with tears that fell from your chin and onto his vest. Instead of wiping away the tears on your face with his leather-gloved-fingers or a handkerchief, Leona leaned down to kiss your tears away. It wasn’t very effective, but his light kisses tickled your cheeks and made you giggle despite yourself.

🍂 A tiny grin grew on Leona’s face as he heard your giggles, and he continued to kiss your tears away. You pulled away from Leona to cup his face with your hands. As you stared into the warm summer-green eyes of the person before you, the person who became one of your best friends and one of the most important people of your life, you broke into tears once more.

🍂 You thought of the moments you shared with Leona, with your friends like Ace and Deuce, and with Grim and the Ramshackle ghosts. They all weren’t your family by blood, but they sure as heck were your family by heart.

🍂 Even if you might never find a way back to your world, or even if you did, remembering that you had an army of people who would always love and support you in Twisted Wonderland made you feel less worried about your unpredictable future.

🍂 “Leona,” you whispered, a smile of hope and thankfulness cracking on your face. “Thank you.”

🍂 Leona brought his hands up to yours to hold them. “I’m here for you. Don’t forget that,” Leona nuzzled his cheek into your right palm. “Now let’s go home to get that fall cleanin’ done. Ramsey said he’d teach me how to make your favorite soup for dinner.”

🍂 The Ramshackle ghosts loved you like their own, and they also loved Leona (who was practically like their child-in-law at this point). Leona had to admit that he enjoyed the ghosts’ company as well (you and Leona liked to learn more about Twisted Wonderland history from hearing the Ramshackle ghosts’ life experiences).

🍂 “Home?” you wiped your remaining tears away with one hand as Leona took your other hand to guide you out of the Mirror Chamber.

🍂 “Whether it’s Ramshackle, Savanaclaw, or Great Seven knows where, to me…home’s where you are,” Leona turned around at the door to gaze at you with all the love and adoration in his eyes, those summer-green eyes that never failed to make you feel warm, safe, and loved no matter how many seasons would pass by.

🍂 “I feel that way, too.” You gave Leona’s fingers a squeeze, to which he reciprocated. “Let’s go home, Leona.”

🍂 And with that, hand-in-hand, you and Leona returned home.

🍓 This fic became wayyyy more self-indulgent than I meant it to be 🤧

🍓 I named one of the Ramshackle Ghosts “Ramsey” after “Ramshackle,” but I also wrote in this fic implying that Ramsey is the cook of Ramshackle. And then I suddenly thought of Gordon Ramsay, so I thought that was a nice coincidence-of-sorts lol.

Cozy - describe your ideal fall day.

One of those crisp October days when the sun is shining but the air is cold, and the trees are fully red-orange-yellow so you can wade through piles of fallen leaves while there's still enough left on the branches too. If it's early enough in the morning there's still some ice on the puddles that you can break, and you can see flocks of birds migrating high up in the sky.

Pinecone - are you crafty?

Kind of? I want to be more than I am. I know how to crochet, knit, cross stitch, and I have several ideas for projects, but to actually sit down and work on them is much harder for me. I just recently found a really nice pattern for a crocheted dress that I want to try my hand at, but I haven't been able to make myself sit down and order the required yarn yet.

Aw, Anaya, you are far too kind to us💛 thank you for asking, darling, I'm always happy to answer questions about my dear Jakob.

🍁 - What is your and your F/O(s) favorite thing about Fall(Autumn) in general?

What Jakob and I love most about fall are quite similar, but the strongest is the nostalgia that comes with the end of the year and the changing of seasons. The days are growing shorter and the air is getting colder, forcing us inside where we relax on the hearth before a warm fire, a warm mug of our drink of choice in our hands and a blanket wrapped around our shoulders. Jakob loves to write in this environment and finds it the easiest to get into the creative process at this time of year. He is inspired by the magic within the fallen leaves and swirling grey clouds that will one day bring snow. The cold also forces Will and I to seek each other's warmth (and Jake's) so we all feel much more comfortable cuddled up together, unlike summer when it gets too hot sometimes for us to be too near each other.

🍂 - Will they play in the leaves with you or scold you because they "just made the pile"?

Jakob and I rake the leaves for the sole purpose of jumping into the pile once we are done. The bigger pile, the better. Jakob likes to conceal himself in the leaf pile and jump out and scare Will (bonus points if we can get Will screaming as we drag him in there with us.)

🍯 - What are your and your F/O(s) comfort fall items?

Jakob is not materialistic; there is not any more that he needs other than a warm blanket, his journal, a quill, and those closest to him (Will and I.) I suppose all of this counts as his fall comfort items, even though these would apply to most times of the year. Despite the brothers' scams to earn money and have their needs met, Jakob does not do much with his money and instead uses his hefty salary frugally on new journals, higher quality parchment, quills and filling meals. Liquor is one of his weaknesses, especially when he wants to kick back and relax and he will occasionally buy himself a nice drink, but there is not much he needs. Jakob is much happier with love surrounding him than any item.

🌾 - Do y'all do any special holiday things together? (Pumpkin patches, hayrides, Apple picking, Bonfires, Feasts, etc.)

The brothers love a good bonfire. Jakob uses these as a ritual wherein he purges all of the works he has created that he does not wish to keep or deems subpar. He picks through his writing and burns what he does not want left lingering. (it is also incredibly entertaining watching them both almost set each other on fire because one or the other is not paying attention.)

Jakob and Will adore feasts of all sorts (they love to eat, big surprise, right?) We only have a few of them closer to the holidays and they gorge themselves on all sorts of meats, vegetables, breads and potatoes. It's adorable watching Jakob eat; he has always had a high metabolism and it leaves him a little thinner than perhaps he should be. Making certain he is getting enough nutrition is very important to me.

I like taking them to get pumpkins with me. They have a contest between the two of them over who can find the largest pumpkin; Will won't let Jakob carry it because "he'll drop it and I'll be sick because pumpkin entrails make me want to gag."

suki is pretty good, she can only rest after all her goals and duties for the day are done. her main core motivation is to spend time with her family and friends and although she enjoys taking time to focus in order to do what she has to, she also tends to invest a lot in others and thrives when she manages to spend time with the people she cares about.

she is a romantic at heart and enjoys romance novels, the ones where the couple stays together till the end.

🍄 [MUSHROOM] How likely is your OC to eat random berries/mushrooms they find? 

not very likely - she’s pragmatic by nature and responsible, if she eats them she probably knows they are edible.

🍁 [MAPLE LEAF] What is your OC's favourite season? Why and what do they do during it? 

she loves the summer, it reminds her of her childhood playing in the water by the docks near her childhood home

🍂 [AUTUMN LEAVES] Does your OC view piles of dead leaves as a mess or as fun? 

she sees it as both - she’ll have fun and play with it but after she’s done she will fix it back to what it was.

she eats mostly fish and regular seafood as she was born and raised by the beach. she loves noodles, though.

she loves begonias. they represent individuality, peace, gratitude, or caution

yes, if she’s by herself. she likes pretty things.

begonias, of course - the message would say something like...”you got this kiddo” or another motivating message.

she is not a picky eater, but she doesn’t like water tribe food as it is too much alike the food she has always eaten. she dearly wants to eat fire nation food.

she believes in the spirits, even before the harmonic convergence - and her connection only got stronger after the convergence

she feels deeply and strongly about what she believes and what she loves, although she means well however her sense of what is or isn’t right might blind her and lead her to some less than ideal choices.

yes.

it’s built inside a huge oak tree and not above it - looks more like a tiny hut than an actual tree house. it’s simple, comfy.

birdfeeding and playing around with nature spirits

when her mother fell ill and later got hospitalised, which led her to be taken to her father. it was rocky at first, to say the least, and she’s not entirely over her mother’s illness.

she’s not too resilient - her strength lies on her wits and her talent towards spirit bending.

🌱 [SEEDLING] What new passions/hates is your OC discovering? 

she’s growing to love hearing about the old tales of monks and other important people. she’s slowly learning geography and cannot wait to see the world.

she would love to go to ember island, with a regular civillian cruise ship

🍂- what fall beverage is your go-to to share with s/i?

Hot apple cider. They enjoy it thoroughly, and we can actually make it at our castle. It's the perfect drink to have while on an autumnal walk, or to curl up with a good book, non?

🍁- do you and s/i enjoy making piles of fallen leaves and jumping in them? would you ever do that?

I can't say that's particularly up my alley - however, I have seen ma minette indulge in such activities with our grandchildren. Well, mostly with Noe. Louis was quite skeptical of such an activity as he was wont to be, and Domi clearly only joined in because Noe was so excited...ah, it was quite interesting to watch. Ma minette seemed to enjoy themself as well, but they always do when the grandchildren are involved.

🌽- have you ever been to a corn maze with s/i? would you like to?

Oh yes! This is a most fascinating mortal invention. Our grandchildren accompanied us to one of these. I had ma chatounette and myself sneak off to see how they'd react to being lost in the corn maze. Hahaha! It was quite intriguing. The three of them made it out just fine, even if there were a few tears here or there. Ma cherie treated them all to some sweets to make up for it, of course. In the end, they had a wonderful time, as time the two of us.

🍂- "What fall beverage is your go-to to share with s/i?"

"So, normally Juni doesn't much care for tea, but when she realized that I liked to have some on the colder days, we began experimenting around with different flavors and added sweets until we found a tea we could both enjoy! It turns out, a cinnamon black tea and a-uh... generous drop of cream was a good fit!

🦃- "Do you and s/i cook for Thanksgiving? Who makes what?"

"Seeing that Juni and I are both royalty, the cooks and chefs pretty well cover Thanksgiving meals! But that doesn't stop her from sneaking into the kitchen and baking pies for the staff just for fun. It's her own little way of thanking them for their hard work, and I couldn't find it sweeter.💕

(Scarf)- "Do you enjoy getting all bundled up when the weather starts to cool? Do you steal s/i's scarves or coats to wear?"

"I assure you I don't steal her clothes. Haha, she's offered to loan me her coat a time or two when I, for some reason, didn't have one- buuuut I really don't FIT in Juni's clothes... Nor do I think pink and green florals suit me."

"But yes, I do enjoy bundling up."☺

🍁- "Do you and s/i enjoy making piles of fallen leaves and jumping in them? Would you ever do that?"

"Oh, I haven't done that since I was a kid! I bet Juni hasn't in a while either! We'll have to make some time to go do that; I know she'd love it."

"Oh, absolutely! Juni's good friends with the old farmer, so he's always more than willing to give us a ride. We always stop in the orchard and pick apples to take home for Sitron, and the farmer's wife brings us cider. It's always such a nice time.☺"

"OH OH I KNOW JUST THE ONE! So, Juni and I were visiting with my family, right? She was downstairs showing my mother and a few of the cooks how to make her aunt's pumpkin pie. Everything was going well until one of my big brothers decided it would be a good idea to try and scare the poor, jumpy thing. Well, he goes and jumps out from behind her, only for her to scream and throw that raw pie right in his face! She felt horrible, but I just couldn't STOP laughing!"

(Insert pie here)- "Do you and s/i enjoy the pumpkin flavored treats? (Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice, ect)?"

"I personally only like the pumkim pie she and her family makes. That's why she was teaching it to the cooks back home to begin with.😅 Apart from that, I'm not a fan. Juni really likes pumpkin cookies though!"

"I just love reading by the fire. She rests her little head on my shoulder and I use my finger to help her follow along with me. We just sit like that in complete silence until she starts talking about the book we're reading. You should have seen the look on her face when we got to the end of the mystery novel! I saw it coming a mile away, but she was so shocked!"
