My feelings about Supernatural are echidna levels prickly but I've always admired Misha Collins' shameless support of queer interpretations of media and his baffling inability to be stopped from saying whatever he wants. Especially because it's mostly him being loud and messy about diversity and acceptance.
#misha collins#supernatural#once upon a decade ago i wrote an essay on queer theory and fandom culture using supernatural as case study#you cannot be wrong about a queer interpretations of a character or text#it's a interpretation of a text#and queer interpretations are only strengthened by fan service#not weakened by it#and saying a character shouldn't be interpreted as bisexual is biphobic#a biphobia that bleeds into how queer fans are treated by fandom and production#supernatural is an amazing show to use as a study of modern fan culture and it's not a terrible show— it has some great moments in 15 years#but it also created a pretty toxic feedback loop of misogyny and queer phobia between both the fandom and the production that i don't like#so it's nice when misha collins continues to be all in on his support of queering the text#regardless of the squeamishness fandom and production have of sincerely reading dean as bi and/or his relationship with castiel as queer
