Random post 6/12/2020

I already had ECT this morning. It was done so quickly. I got there at 6:45am. They took me back as soon as I got there and I was done by a little after 7:30. We got home by 8:15am. Most of the time ECT takes all morning. This time we got home before the time I wake up on most mornings. However, I’m a little sad it went by so fast because because I didn’t get much time to talk to the staff and I love them. They are so nice and supportive. We had stepped up my ECT from once every 3 weeks to once every 2 weeks. This time we’re going to play it by ear. We’ll either do 2 weeks from now or 3 weeks from now depending on how I’m feeling.

Another thing. I just e-mailed my PCP about the nausea. After an initial really bad nausea on Wednesday night it has come in less severe waves since then. I know they’ll probably make me come in for an appointment but all I really want is a prescription for anti-nausea medication like zofran or something. I’m going to have to see my GI doctor later on anyway for other reasons although I’m kind of avoiding them at the moment because they want me to do a follow-up colonoscopy and that sounds like torture.

Okay, the random thing that was the original reason why I made this post. I’ve mentioned this here and there before but I am so incredibly grateful I have the capability to drive. I know that sounds weird. Let me explain. I was terrified to drive growing up. I did the written exam maybe 5-6 times because my learner’s permit kept expiring. Eventually, when I was about 24/25 I finally got the courage up to take the behind the wheel lessons and test. Even after that, I still didn’t own a car and didn’t have access to one either. Finally, when I moved back home in 2010, (age 28) I HAD to start driving. It’s really hard to function without a car here. At first I drove my Mom’s mini-van until I saved enough money to buy my first car. I was terrified to start driving when I moved home even though I got my license 3/4 years earlier. But I faced my fear and did it anyway. Now driving feels like just another thing. I can do it without really thinking. It comes natural.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because after each ECT treatment I’m not allowed to drive for 48 hrs. I need to get something taken care of at the pharmacy today (long story) and so my Mom is going to have to drive me. I would love to just drive myself but that probably wouldn’t be a good idea. But it just makes me feel so grateful that most of the time I can drive myself.

7. Check your airline ahead of time to see extra charges for checked bags. Some airlines even started charging for carry-on bags too!

8. Duty free does not count as carry-on ( but space will be limited in overhead). You will need a ticket for duty free.

9. Bring stuff to do, chargers, etc. A book. No point bring bored and not everyone can sleep on flight.

10. When choosing seats consider your height. There's never enough space, that's a given, but if you are very tall aim for an aisle seat if possible.

11. Use bathroom before boarding - good advice from above!

12. See if you can print tickets ahead of time. You can usually check in online within 24 hrs of your flight.

13. Check Id requirements in your state. Currently some states are being stupid and not accepting driver's licenses for in country travel. If going abroad check passport expiration, visa for other country, etc.

14. For that matter - if going abroad, have embassy address/number written safely somewhere, make sure to warn your credit card you are abroad and charges are legit.

15. Candy or gum can help w ear popping thing. Or just swallow a lot to help it pass quicker.

16. There are meds if you get motion sick. Take some w you.

17. Watch the layover time when you buy your ticket, if you need to transfer. Too short and you'll be rushing to not miss your second flight. Too long and you'll wander around the airport bored.

18. Double check your gate/flight arrival on the screens at airport.

19. Put a ribbon or something on your luggage handle so you can recognize it easier at baggage claim. There be a million black/brown suitcases to check on otherwise.

I know lots of people are scared of flying but keep in mind just how special it is. How exciting and magical - I have flown countless times since I was 8 and I don't think I ever lost the 'this is so cool/exciting' feeling I had then. I feel like a kid looking out the window each and every time. First time flying doesn't mean it has to be scary.

Airport can be stressful - lots of people in a hurry, all crowded and busy - so do what you need to to shield yourself from that energy. No point catching their stress.

See if you can treat the whole thing as part of the adventure, vacation/etc strats as soon as you reach the airport.

The plaintiff is claiming herniated discs and loss of bowel control. We have a 2006 no money down mortgage, so total equity is very much in the red since our home value plummeted. Hello, I am trying to arrange vehicle insurance. I have contacted A&L with regards to their car insurance. Basically I have just changed jobs, where I had company cars for the last 6 years with no claims. My car was hit while it was parked in my own driveway 4 days ago (in NY state). The police came and filed a report. I asked them for the other drivers insurance info, but they said I would have to wait for the police report and it would include that information. They advised it would be available after 5 business days at a cost of $5.00. I think the information should have been made available immediately so I could have filed a claim with the other person's insurance company. I don't suspect they will get rich by charging $5.00, so I don't know why I have to wait for the info. I am concerned that the other person's insurance will question the delay in filing the claim. Is this normal? I would really like to get my car fixed as soon as possible and am frustrated that I have to wait to get information that I think should have been immediately available. The driver that hit my car admitted to being on heavy duty prescription drugs at the time of the accident, but said that wasn't the cause of the accident. Me and my parents are having an argument about what i should get. There is a motorcycle that i can buy for 750 dollars and it is a 93 Honda Shadow or i can get a new moped. The only thing that i need for the motorcycle is a new batter and i know this is true b/c i took it to a trusted shop and have them inspect and clean everything out (the owner payed for that) and it came back clean.
