2: If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be? @pantherdaemon It’s about time bro
3: Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 23, give me line 17. “WWE maintained little interest in scouting, much less signing, Japanese or Mexican talent, widely considered the second and third points of the wrestling world’s triangle.”

89: What would be a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on? What’s the one kink you hate liking?
90: One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren’t really doing anything, they’re just standing around your bed. What do you do? Ask if they can talk. If they can’t and are just looming, try to get back to sleep.
91: You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what’s even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What is that power? Control time
92: You can re-live any point of time in your life. The time-span can only be a half-hour, though. What half-hour of your past would you like to experience again? Oh this is a good question. That last 30 minutes of the Jan. 2012 BronyCon where I modded the stream and heard “You Only Got One Life to Live”
93: You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be? Goodbye that sexual assault in the common room
94: You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be? Always music huh? I’m gonna say Cher
95: You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go? Los Angeles
96: Do you have any relatives in jail? Probably
97: Have you ever thrown up in the car? Nah
98: Ever been on a plane? Yep
99: If the whole world were listening to you right now, what would you say? It’s...it’s not easy anymore. And I know I make a lot of mistakes and whine a lot and am in no position to hate who I am or what I’ve done and I know that I don’t deserve everything I’ve gotten, but...it’s hard to want to live life and enjoy little things when you’ve been told that you’re great at a lot of things and end up never getting there because you didn’t put enough work in or you weren’t lucky enough to get it. And then you’ve got this great big old dream looming over you that you can escape in because it’s so much to imagine what it would be like. But you know that deep down you’ll end up back home working at Menards and ending up just like your father. Well guess what? If I’ll never be shit, duck? Than I’d least like to fucking know if I ever had a chance in the first place.

Library Triage
Not sure if I mentioned it before, but as of May 20th they’re finally letting us return items, though all checkouts’ due dates are still currently extended to at least July 5th (w/ a 3-day grace period before fines so the books can be allowed to sit untouched upon return before being checked in). My hoard topped out at 44, but I still have 32 items out, for various reasons. Let us discuss! (strap in, it gets long. and also, once again, is not really triaged so much as listed in random order, arranged only by format)
Books returned, pending check-in: 2
Books currently reading: 1
Val McDermid books I have read but am hanging onto until I finish the last one, in case I want to refer back to shippy bits: 5
Books I am hanging onto for reference/because they are fun to look at: 2 (Annotated Little Women, Little Women cookbook)
***ACTUAL TBR BOOKS BELOW (the only section that’s actually triaged)***
1. How The Dead Speak - Val McDermid: Last one of hers! Really need to decide if I’m not ready for it to be over until the next book (which is not even on the horizon yet) is out, or if I want the whole series firmly in my head before it becomes inaccessible to me for at least 4 weeks from date of return.
2. Roses Round the Door - Doreen Tovey: the pre-publishing-life memoir of a prolific British author of cat memoirs.
3. Semiprecious - D. Anne Love: Middle grade novel set in the 60s. Looks simple but sweet, about two middle-school-age sisters being dumped at their aunt's house while their mother chases her stardom dreams.
4. The Visitors - Simon Sylvester Because I'm currently in the middle of a K.A. Tucker novel, and the library doesn't have any more but this cover looks similar, even if the style isn’t at all. This is an adult novel, I think, but features a 17-year-old, set on a “remote Scottish island,” and the title people are a girl her own age who arrives with her father. Selkies might be involved or hinted at.
5. The Map of Lost Memories - Kim Fay 1920s. Woman who works at a museum decides to go treasure-hunting after being passed over for curator due to her sex. Kinda feels like a 20th century Blood & Treasure crossed with Evy from The Mummy, if her area of expertise was the Orient rather than Egypt. I am excited!
6. Happiness for Beginners - Katherine Center "Wilderness survival course" in Wyoming in the summer? HELL YEAH. Sounds like a fantastic summer read, and maybe also good motivation to get outside in nature more.
DISCS
[CD] Taylor Swift - Lover: I still have only heard 2 songs on this. I keep thinking that I will finally listen to it when I have a long car trip, as driving is my favorite way to get acquainted w/ new CDs, but I keep forgetting it’s in the car because I rarely drive more than 10 minutes at a time or a half hour a week now. Still, on the chance I drive 20 minutes to a pretty trail or regional park, I’d like the option.
[DVD] 12 Strong: When a military movie goes right, it usually goes really right, and even though I’ve been putting off watching this since January, I still feel like Chris Hemsworth + horses cannot go wrong. I just need to pick a night where I want popcorn. I feel like popcorn would enhance this.
[DVD] Ladybird: I’m finally ready, thanks to Little Women drastically improving my tolerance to Timmy Ski Chalet, but somehow I’m still hesitating?? I think now it’s because I’ve built it up so much in my head I’m afraid of being let down. But I need to watch it, because even though it’s finally on Netflix, I’ll definitely want the special features afterward, and I can’t renew this.
[DVD] Adult Life Skills: Jodie Whittaker playing a reclusive and socially awkward nearly-30-year-old woman who still lives at home was like, MY UNEXPECTED DREAM SCENARIO, but once again I’m too intimidated by how much I think I will love it. Like the 2 above, I’ve had it since Jan. and can’t renew once it is due.
[DVD] Good Omens: There are only 2 people currently on the request list for this, and I haven’t even opened it since I picked it up, but I...just like having the option. This is my 2nd time checking it out so I did see some of the special features already.
[DVD] Little Women (2019): WHY HAS MY DUMB ASS JUST BEEN GLOATING ABOUT HAVING IT AND NOT ACTUALLY REWATCHING IT OR ITS SPECIAL FEATURES YET. I’m running out of time!! There are like 225 people on the request list after me!
[DVD] Criminal Minds season 2, 3, 7, and 10-15: CM may be drifting back toward the background, but you will pry these away from me on the day they are due and not a second before. I need them always. 13-15 aren’t streaming and they’re my shiny new favorites, and the others have awesome commentary tracks and/or other great special features.
[DVD] Grey’s Anatomy season 8: IDK, I got a craving to rewatch the plane crash episode and its glorious madhouse of pain and tragedy. I never checked out the DVD before so I would like to know if there are any deleted scenes or special features about it. I just picked this up today.

Meet The Artists – Mary Woodin
Tumblr media
Suffolk based Illustrator Mary Woodin has been with The Artworks for over 30 years. Joining the agency just after she graduated the RCA, Mary’s distinctive and traditional style has seen her work with clients such as Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Wedgwood and The National Trust (just to name a few!).
Mary’s Favourite Project, since joining The Artworks, has been her Illustrated book ‘The Painted Garden’. “The first book I wrote and illustrated, ‘The Painted Garden’, was very special because it was a) my first book b) I had complete free reign over its content and c) I painted and hand lettered every single page. More importantly it gave me a love for recording and diarising my surroundings and led to The Painted Garden Cookbook, in which I wrote recipes using the ingredients I was growing in my country garden.”
We spoke to Mary to hear more about her life as an Artist…
Where do you live?
I live in Suffolk, in a crooked old farmhouse surrounded by fields and orchards, near the quaint and ancient market town of Eye… (heads up, early closing on Tuesdays, and a fish van on Fridays, if you should be visiting!)
Where is your studio located?
I share a light and airy studio in the garden with my artist husband.
The commute is 62 paces down the garden path, and usually involves a catch up with the chickens and a detour into the greenhouse.
Can you describe your creative process?
I work with good old tubes of watercolour paint, brushes, coloured pencils, pen and ink etc. I simply love the tactile quality of moving colour around on paper. There’s no doubt though, a bit of additional jiggery pokery in photoshop has saved many a piece of artwork. Increasingly I’ll paint separate elements and put them together in photoshop to give me more flexibility with composition and scale.
What does a typical working day look like?
My working day starts with ten minutes of stretches, a freshly laid egg and strong black coffee.
I’ll glance at my ‘to do’ list, and push it aside, again. If I’m starting a new project I might well mooch round the garden for reference material but then I’m basically sat at my desk all day! Great view though… over the pond fringed by Dawn Redwoods, an Indian bean tree and American Oak and visited by an itinerant gang of gossiping ducks.
Lunch in the summer months will be a handful of salad leaves from the garden, eaten outside under my personal palm tree. In winter I’ll be hunched over a bowl of homemade soup.
Do you listen to music or the radio whilst you work? If so, what’s on your playlist?
I listen to Radio 3 while I’m working, it’s become a comfort blanket, but if they dare to play Philip Glass or Steve Reich I’ll switch to some Jan Garbarek jazz in protest. If I need to crank up the pace I might sing along to Mika full blast.
How long have you been with the Artworks for?
I’ve been with the Artworks since I left the RCA in, ahem 1988. Work that one out.
What drew you to Artworks?
Serendipity brought us together. An illustrator friend of mine came to see my final show and mentioned that his agent was looking for someone who could paint flowers! My background was in textiles and ceramics but I was young and fearless and up for a challenge, so I took my floral folio round to The Artworks the following week! The rest is history.
What books or programs did you love as a child? Have they influenced your work in any way?
I grew up in a television-less household, so spent a lot of time turning the pages of my absolute favourite book ‘The Butterfly Ball’ 1973! I can still remember every detail in the exquisite illustrations by Alan Aldridge. I guess a fascination with detail is innate within me and definitely comes through in my own work. A generation later I have loved reconnecting with picture books through my own children… John Burningham won my heart.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you be instead?
Ohhh definitely a chef… or a garden designer, I’m as passionate about food and plants, as I am paint and paper.
What was the most important lesson your learned at Art School, if you went!
At art school we were brow beaten into drawing plants one day a week. That discipline of observing and drawing, not just plants, has stuck with me.
What inspires you the most to create?
I am surrounded by the wonderful light, and colour of the countryside, which seeps under your skin through osmosis. A lot of what I create aims to capture the essence of that beauty. However, I get very excited by hugely contrasting trips to the city and enjoy scribbling that buzz down on paper too.
Name three artists that you admire
Off the top of my head, David Hockney big time, John Nash, Glynn Boyd Harte… but there are soooo many more.
What kind of commissions do you enjoy the most?
I love something that chimes with my passions, so all things ‘nature’ is a safe bet. I relish designing packaging across a range of products or getting thoroughly involved in a book project.
What would your dream commission be?
Right now I’m enjoying drawing urban architecture and country house interiors; I would love to turn that into a book project somehow.
Do you have any pets? If so, what and what are they called?
Two cats, Lily and Frostie, seven chickens, Ziggy, Marley, Beth (Chatto), Gertrude (Jekyll), Brownie 1, 2, and 3. I’m on the lookout for more Muscovy ducks to replace Ted, Maud and Toby who got eaten by a pesky fox. But then again… we ate our pig Joan!
What 5 things could you not live without?
My sourdough starter, my vegetable plot, sunshine, my running shoes, lemons.
What is your very favourite meal?
Impossible question for a foodie, can only narrow it down by saying definitely savoury…vegetables, fish, cheese.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
You’ll find me charging round our three acre garden with a wheel barrow, baking bread, cooking for friends, making curtains, covering sofas, practising ungainly moves at HIIT classes, beach-combing, and checking the local weekly auction for things I don’t really need. Or for a real break, I’ll visit my grown up kids in London and hit the galleries.
What is your current dream travel destination?
Considering the nip in the air today Arizona has shot to the top of my list.
See more of Mary’s work here.

TGIWednesday News
In case you guys missed the Full Blood Super Wolf Moon with lunar eclipse spectacular event, just take in the beauty of this picture. And in case you are feeling extra crispy - and a lot of folks were and still are - let’s unwind and take the angst off of you immediately Email me for an appointment at  [email protected]  As you know, the theme of this month is about money, abundance and deserving and worthiness of receiving it... and the Gold Coin Audio MP3 with our newly added special bonus Dealing with IRS and Tax Time (for our friends outside the USA it includes YOUR taxing authorities too!) On this audio MP3 (as with ALL the others) We'll be clearing the energy so that you can legally pay less and keep more of what you’ve earned. Everyone always asks me, Who's we?... It’s always YOUR guardian angel and often other “vanilla angels” and/or guides looking out for you and then relatives from mom or dad’s side of the family.  It’s kind of like going to the beach and throwing popcorn in the air.... the seagulls that are there today, may not be there tomorrow, and it could be a new batch all together. We always invite them all to help and contribute to “us” collectively and often privately I might say to my brother and father in spirit, “Alright Kevin, ok Dad, I need your help with this one.”  I believe having been there and back , that they can see us and hear us.  And more often than not, you are not alone and there are a slew of folks in the room watching over you in a good way.  They want the best for you, for you to be healthy and enjoy life and to be prosperous!!! So never think you’re alone in this.  And I believe WE had a lot of help downloading and channeling our latest Audio MP3 The Gold Coin and Taxes and the IRS & I believe you’re going to LOVE them.

Day 17, Arlon
(Tried posting this from my phone at least 3 times between last night and tonight and I finally gave up. Hoping it works this time.)
A decent night's sleep was just what I needed. I wake the girls around 7:15 per their request - this will help them readjust once day camp starts on Tuesday at 8:45 am. As I'm putting on makeup, I hear them arguing downstairs, then I hear Suzanne crying. I don't rush down, but instead wait to hear for heavy wailing, thuds on the floor, yelling. Nothing. Once I get downstairs, they are both sitting in the family room quietly reading. The vibe seems tense but I don't say anything, just watch as Charlotte pushes the drawer on the coffee table with her foot and Su pushes it back. I may not have siblings or kids, but I know thinly veiled hostility when I see it, so I convince Char that now is a perfect time to practice flute for 30 minutes before we leave for art. She leaves the room and Su keeps reading, then gets restless and I convince her to finish up her April Fools joke stand (or whatever she is calling it).
On the way to art they try to walk on either side of me, but the sidewalks are narrow and it's slowing us down. I make them pick a number and Su gets it, so she has to walk in front and Charlotte will be at the back. Cue the complaining. They snipe at each other a bit more en route, and I'm thinking this could be some misplaced stress on Char's part, considering what she told me last night. Or it's just the usual sibling BS. As we walk we are damn near constantly dodging dog poop. It's on the sidewalk, in the gutter, everywhere. Here's where Europeans could learn something from Americans because by and large our dog owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs...except in Baltimore. Do not ask me how I know this.
We get to art and the projects begin. I've brought the pen case, which just needs some hand stitching before it's complete, so I finish that up while the girls work on making pendants, brooches, keychains with this foamy clay type product...the clay is very soft and I decide to make a little pin, too. Sarah preps a few plaster eggs for painting at tomorrow's session. The girls move on to another project involving metal charms with baked-on metallic powder. Sarah's son, who has shown up unexpectedly due to a little mishap while out with his dad, is working on projects and making a mess, which irritates Sarah. She repeatedly says "tu me fatigues" (you wear me out). Comment dit-on [how do you say] "Sister, you ain't never lied"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We head home with several completed projects in hand and get lunch together. I tell them the story of locking my grandmother in the basement when I was little because she was paying more attention to my sick cousin Lara than to me, and how I got spanked for it later. We talk about what hackers are, why the word "Luxembourgeois" [for the language that's spoken in Luxembourg] makes me laugh (which involves me explaining what it means in the US when we call someone "bougie"), and then they play a quick round of news story, which involves Su asking Char the 5 Ws - they learned this from reading Anastasia Krupnik books. I tell them my journalist friends including Jan Haag, Krista Minard and Rachel Leibrock will love this.
After lunch they go outside for a bit and work on some sort of dance routine, but when it gets cloudy and starts raining, they head inside and upstairs for what turns out to be a binge watch of "Ocean Girl." This gives me an opportunity to work on Easter basket items that Carolyn set aside. There are quite a few empty plastic eggs, so I decide to write down some inside jokes from our past week plus some positive things like "you are special" and "be brave and strong" and put them in the eggs, then stick them in their baskets. They can hunt for the toy ones and the ones with the fancy chocolate eggs in them. When in Belgium, eat the chocolate - and the waffles, too.
Jean-Philippe emails me some information for Charlotte regarding a group project she organized in honor of her teacher, who went on maternity leave at the break. Char doesn't know how to access her school email from home, which she needs to do in order to get the project finalized, but through some detective work on both our parts and a link from her dad, we figure it out. Once that's done, she heads back upstairs to continue the binge watch with her sister.
I take the time to poke around and do random stuff, like visit the pond and check on the frogs. Dinah the cat supervises my visit. She loves to sit by the pond and lap at the water...and snack on les grenouilles. I really hope I don't witness that while I'm here. We head back inside and after a bit, I spy the black neighborhood cat up close. He cuts through the garden to go...wherever he goes. I go out on the veranda and he's sitting in the gutter, staring at me. I talk to him for a minute and he just stares, but when I finally say "Qu'est-ce que tu fais? [what are you doing]" he looks startled and leaves. Ahh, bien sûr, le chat ne parle pas anglais.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After three calls to the girls for dinner, they finally come downstairs. They have 2 meal options: try the chili their mom got at the store and have that with rice and tortilla chips, or have baked chicken and rice. "And tortilla chips?" Char asks. "No chips if you don't have the chili," I say. They both try tasting spoons of the chili, and as I expected both turn it down. But the rule still applies re: make your own food & clean up after yourself if you don't like what's being served, so Char opts for grilled cheese.
The pre-bedtime activity is Easter projects: dyeing eggs, decorating little wax egg candles, and painting egg cups. The girls set up stations for each activity and we rotate around. It's quite fun, even if our dye options ended up being red, orangey-red, deep red, light orange and yellow, because it turned out most of the dye from the previous year had been used up and I could only find red food coloring in the kitchen. They were still happy with the results, and when Su ended up cracking an egg in the process of coloring it, she simply peeled and ate it. An egg fitted with a decorative sleeve looked like deodorant, so more laughing and goofing around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At bedtime, Char gives the day a 9. "I'm still stressed about Mommy," she says, "and I didn't have as good of a flute practice as I should have, but we got to watch that show and do other fun stuff." Indeed we did.

TO BE KILLED 2/6/2018 ONLY 5 months old – GENTLE WITH CHILDREN <3 RESPECTFUL OF CATS <3 and PLAYFUL WITH DOGS <3 A volunteer writes: Spot was very happy to see me approach his kennel today! His tail was wagging all over, and he started licking my hand through the bars as soon as I got close– a joyful, energetic boy with nothing but love for everyone. Spot seems to be housetrained– waiting until we’re outside to do his business– and never stops wagging his tail throughout our walk. When we stop to practice the “sit” command, Spot gets so excited about treats that he wiggles all around, forgetting how to sit for a minute– but he eventually remembers, and does a great job of taking the treat he’s earned very nicely! As soon as I sit down on a bench to take a break, Spot comes over to jump into my lap, cuddle up against me, and lick my face (or at least try!). Spot loves to play and run around, and would love to be in an active home. Could it be yours? Please come and meet him today! Animals, Beautiful, and Cats: FAMILY DOG IN NEED Handsome friendly, affectionate, enjoys cuddling silly, fun-loving, very housetrained, enjoys the company of other dogs Neutered & Ready To Go UN TOBY 18470 3 years old 59 lbs manhattan ace waiting for love **** TO BE KILLED - 1/26/2018 **** SO CUTE AND SO MUCH FUN, LOADED WITH POTENTIAL <3 A volunteer writes: Put on your sunglasses because beautiful Toby is set to dazzle! An affectionate, silly, fun-loving family dog disguised as a regal Prince in a pristine white coat, he loves to socialize with friends of all species and even jumps up to kiss complete strangers hello! Toby's other talent is the 'gift of the gab' and he'll chat to anyone, anywhere, anytime in his special 'borking' tone which means everything from 'let's go outside' to 'toss the toy NOW'. A good walker once he's got his zoomies out, Toby waited patiently through our backyard games until he hit the pavement to do his business, then took care of both numbers within minutes. He's affectionate, kissy and makes a great over-sized lapdog and his former family tells us he enjoyed cuddling on the sofa in front of the TV--the perfect companion for a Netflix binge! Playful and super social, Toby enjoys the company of other dogs and exuberant games of fetch and though he previously lived in harmony with a younger child, his size and energy make him better suited to a home with big, bouncy kids like himself. And of course, as you'd expect from such a metropolitan guy, he enjoys being bathed and groomed to gorgeous perfection too. He is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Toby remains calm when in his kennel in the shelter environment and social with handlers outside of his kennel. He may display some anxious behavior, but will engage with his care takers, taking treats and soliciting attention. Toby has shown himself to be highly tolerant of handling, including invasive procedures and restraint. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: : Anxiety Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety: Toby appears anxious in the care center, whining and barking. His owner did not described this behavior in his previous home, so we do not know if it will occur in a future home. If it does occur, we recommend giving her puzzle toys, long walks, and things to do to relieve his anxiety. Positive reinforcement, reward based training only should be used. * TO FOSTER OR ADOPT * If you would like to adopt a dog on our “To Be Killed” list, and you CAN get to the shelter in person to complete the adoption process *within 48 hours of reserve*, you can reserve the dog online until noon on the day they are scheduled to die.
