give me an excuse to yap about yuugi .

ultimately this is dependent on the verse, but in general, i have a very clear vision of yuugi getting married and becoming a father, on top of eventually achieving his dream of making his own successful game. the gender of his spouse isn’t so important, but i think a lot about what his kid(s) would be like, lol. sometimes i imagine they’d follow in his footsteps and become duelists and other times i wonder if they’d feel like they’re duel monsters nepo babies or something and feel huge amounts of pressure to live up to their father’s legacy.

speaking of legacy, yuugi eventually does retire from competing as a pro duelist, probably somewhere around his late 40s / early 50s. i imagine by then his kiddos would be grown ups and he’d want to make way for a new generation of duelists to shine and have the spotlight. he does retire with his title intact though. i only think that’s right for his narrative. and he never stops playing the game!! he just doesn’t compete anymore.

yuugi is determined to make a beautiful and happy life for himself and to accomplish all of his dreams, not only because he realizes how precious life is and how short his time on earth actually is in the grand scheme of things, but because he looks forward to reuniting with atem in the afterlife when the time comes and telling him about everything he was able to do. maybe atem knows already because he’s been watching over him, but i imagine he’d like to hear about it anyway. to me, that’s the completion of yuugi’s arc: being reunited with the part of him that’s transcended to the next realm.
