Elite (2018-2020)
no ensemble of actors has ever had me in a chokehold the way they did. the original cast of elite will always remain the best and superior era. they were simply more natural, more connected, more passionate, and brought everything they had to the table. all of them had perfect outstanding chemistry together that escaped the cameras and flourished off screen in real life. this talented group of people will forever hold a special place in my heart. they did not need the show, the show needed them. so here’s to remembering the real elite, and the times when a once great series could live up to its name ❤️

Well what a shit life if I have to betray my brother to get it. That’s not life, it’s nothing.

Disclaimer: This post is gonna have a lot of tags, it's not spam! I just want to reach a lot of people for research reasons!
Ok hello! I am conducting a non-official, personel research project on the Netflix Spain series Élite. It's actually pretty serious, as my field of study is related to the show! I am looking for people who have seen the show (in part or in full) talk to me about it. So if that describes you and you are willing to talk to me about:
Your experience with fandom surrounding Élite,
Your opinion on the representation of queer sexuality in Élite,
Your opinion on the representation of Islam and Muslim characters in Élite,
Or just generally want to talk to someone about the show Élite,
Please message me! If you do, please add:
What seasons/how much of the show you watched
IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE, a sort of identification which would serve to place you within the context of Élite watchers. For example: "I am a spanish teen!", "I am a 50 year old gay frenchman!", "I am actively learning spanish!", etc.
Any info obtained through here will remain as anonymous as you want it. My plan for now is to present my reaserch in a video essay, but I might also end up writing my masters about a related subject, which will then be hosted under my university's publishing house, but nothing more official.
Thank you so much to people who participate and to the others, have a nice day!

Sister: That’s why they gotta stop announcing everything they do in this show, like...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: I feel like [Norma’s] just dead at this point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: I feel like they’re leading up to him being like a mass shooter or something. Me: You think he’s gonna snap? Sister: He seems like the type...
Tumblr media
Sister: …I think being free would making him happy. I mean, [Toby] had that whole vision about being free that did not include [Chris], so I think he’ll be fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: You can just tell them anything and they’ll let you through…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: What’s wrong with this guy? What’s he in for? Me: Hate crimes… Murder, officially, I think. Sister: Hate crime? What’s he sniffing people for? Me: He's just a perv...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: …That’s so gross… In my sickened state*, I can’t even summon a bleugh. Me: [Retching noise] Sister: Thanks. (*We got some booster shots yesterday and Sister always gets sick afterward lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: When are they going to address that guy whose wife also died? Me: Never. Sister: So why did they introduce her?! To spout off some facts and get shushed by the priest?? Me: Maybe there was originally supposed to be more of a story to it and it go cut. Sister: No, they just wanted to do their little after school special moment and then not deal with it. You know, if any of the Muslims should be having the issues in these episodes, it should be the other guy (Arif), not Mr. Said... Me: They could have issues together. Sister: Yeah. Kill the Nazi helper dude. The one who's egging everything on. Schillinger doesn't even really do stuff on his own anymore. Before, he didn't want to fight and wanted to become a Jesus freak and it was always that guy whispering in his ear. And now look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sister: How we know he’s not gonna build a bomb in there? … Oh, I guess they took away all the cleaning supplies…
Stray Thoughts
Sister says Jia Kenmin and Li Chen’s plan to provoke Ryan so they could kill him in self defense was really not thought-out
Sister is convinced that someone is going to die for one of the dogs
Sister believes that killing Robson would get rid of most of the Aryans’ bite since she views him as being the worst out of all the Aryans
Final thoughts
The scene where Robson and what’s his face torture Lalar is the toughest scene to watch in the entire show, imo. And it pisses me off (like, I’m actually getting mad thinking about it right now, lol) that Robson gets more expansion in terms of character as the show progresses, too, because whooooooooo gives a shit about a Nazi?! They still haven’t followed up on Arif’s wife LMAO. Also Urbano gets introduced this episode and they don’t end up doing shit with him, really, either. But let’s learn about this asshole!!
Sister: I feel like they’ve run out of storylines with the Muslims and are just repeating past ones. Wasn’t it [Arif] who was the one complaining about Said’s leadership the last time? And then he couldn’t handle it which caused the whole thing… and now he’s doing it again? Me: I think they just don’t like when Said helps other people. They complained when Said was spending time on Beecher, too… Sister: Yeah, [Arif] is so needy… He’s like “you’re spending too much time with your roommate who you have to stay in a cell with” and also every time he is around, [Said] just wants [Omar] to be quiet anyway…

hi dev!!! (hope omar apollo's concert was amazing) for the fanfic asks: 13, 14, 17
hi jaime!! it was such a good show, i had a blast! he's such a good performer and had a great stage presence, would see him again 100/10. thank you so much for the asks, bb:
13. what's a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
definitely stepping away when something isn't flowing, or the words aren't working. time and space away from something is for the best, not trying to force something
14. how do you write emotional scenes? do you ever feel what the characters feel? do you draw from personal expereince?
oh hell yeah i draw from personal experience. i'm an extremely emotional person despite trying not to be so outwardly so. emotional scenes are so charged and i try and jot down dialogue or descriptors when i'm feeling a lot in response to something and then return to it and flesh it out
17. what do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration of writer's block)
i often just sit back and take a deep breath. read through the document and see if maybe the problem is a few paragraphs back or even read through the chapters already done to get the flow back. as far as writing in general getting difficult, i try to see if it's because i'm trying to do too much with the story and then adjust my plan from there
get to know your fic writer!

I'm at [Oakland] City Hall where several hundred protesters are here early to advocate for the scheduled Gaza ceasefire resolution. There's hundreds here, and a dozen or so supporters of the attack on Gaza counter-protesting.
Tumblr media
Some advocates and counter-protesters having a polite convo. I spoke to another counter-protester who told me he doesn't support any ceasefire, even temp. They don't appear organized, despite the fact that the director of [Jewish Community Relations Council] was here giving an interview earlier. Haven't seen him since.
Tumblr media
Two OGs here for the resolution. I honestly did not think it should be an issue for a Palestinian reporter to wear a kufiyeh, but I was harassed by a cam crew security guard for being too close to their camera and I can't help but feel that was the reason.
Tumblr media
Melvin Mckay, life-long [International Longshore and Warehouse Union] Local 10 member and leader told me he is here to support the Gaza Ceasefire resolution, wearing ILWU vest.
Tumblr media
Another ILWU member here in support. ILWU has been an ally of Palestinian struggle now for decades as a matter of principle, though constrained at how much support they can give at Block the Boat protests where they must follow rules of contract. I spoke to three anti-resolution counter-protesters today, it was interesting, they actually don't oppose a ceasefire, they just don't like the wording and want a specific denunciation of Hamas in the language. Otherwise, they seem to support the current ceasefire.
I think the crowd may be 55% Palestinian, 39% [Jewish Voice for Peace] and Jewish supporters, and 5% opponents of the resolution. Despite the leader of the JCRC being here, Tyler Gregory here, he did not roll deep.

SD characters + Hispanic first names
Made this a while ago for fun, so I'm just saving it here!
Disclaimer: The names I chose are purposely very common/generic names-in real life of course there's a ton of variation and nuance for Spanish-language names based on the various cultures/traditions. This is just based from my experiences (as a Mexican-American), plus I even peaked through Mexican telenovela character lists for inspiration for common/generic names that people give characters lol, so that'll give you an idea of what the names on the list will be like.
Shohoku
Sakuragi-Antonio ("Toño")

Omg thank you for replying to my ask about LFMB. I didn’t know Tiziano Ferro’s appearance was added to do damage control, it had nothing on Bésame but it wasn’t that bad either controversy aside 😅. Also the whole Aurora/Jessica Rabbit plot is one of the worst things they could have come up with. Also, making Carolina fall for Omar out of nowhere (maybe it didn’t look so bad because the mexican actors looked well together and even got married in real life, but I just can’t picture doña Catalina and Mario as a couple). Alicia becomes even worse over time and even more of a caricature of herself, Tomas basically has not dignity or self respect until the very end when she easily steals millions from Conceptos (and she would have gotten away with it had she not gotten any issues with her passport) and even then he was ready to take the blame to protect her 🤦‍♀️
Moreover, having Fernando and Marcia become friends and basically take on a siblings dynamic. I mean, I understand their intentions were good and it was heartwarming to see them mend their relationship and get to that place were they could treat each other as brother and sister, but it’s just not realistic it happened so soon. They were in a toxic relationship for years, she was obsessed with him and treated him as some sort of trophy, he constantly cheated on her, put her family’s patrimony at risk, admitted he was in love with someone else, they hurt each other time after time. It’s a novela so these kind of too good to be true situations are fair game I guess. It’s just that the essence of the characters is just so different from YSBLF from the moment she goes to Acapulco up until the ending as you correctly stated it. Speaking of, what was that thing about Aldo being an angel of some sort? Lol and the fact that they dragged this love triangle until the very last minute where she was supposed to marry Aldo, but he suddenly backs off and allows her to be happy with Fernando. It made no sense. Still, Angelica and Jaime had great chemistry and you are so right when you say they were dorks in love, and Betty and Armando were much more sensual even if their love scenes were way more limited and they showed much less skin, but there’s something about Armando’s desperation to be with Betty during the gaslighting arc that neither of his counterparts has been able to replicate.
I don’t want to bore you anymore with more things. LFMB holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of my childhood. Sometimes I put it on because it makes me laugh. It’s dumb humor but it works. It will never come close to the quality and acting of YSBLF though especially after they ran out of the source material and started adding nonsense, but it was genuinely decent up until some point like you said.
If you made it all the way to this part, I cannot thank you enough. Have a lovely rest of your day, I love your blog 💜
'te tomare una foto' is PERFECT for letty and fernando (the fanvids are good too) and it's also perfect for betty and armando but nobody's made a vid for that and it kills me. (but 'besame' is so sexy and its so them, so again, i cant complain).
i forgot they made omar\carolina a thing. (quick complaint--i hate how they aged up the cuartel and then aged catalina down that was annoying). if u squint it make sense bc in YSBLF mario is shown various times in the first half to be very attracted to catalina, while catalina is always shooting him down. no way she would ever reciprocate in YSBLF, but i guess its fine in LFMB is omar is on some kind of redemption arc. (i dont remember omar being as sinister in LFMB, correct me if im wrong).
the fernando\marcia thing is so?? im laughing. the reason why LFMB makes these kind of choices (everybody being friends in the end) is literally bc of rosy ocampo, who specializes in children's television. all her work before LFMB is kid's telenovelas. that's why aura maria and sofia's kids have huge scenes in LFMB (were as in YSBLF u barely ever see them and only hear of them). its why aldo isn't evil incarnate but instead 'an angel that was meant to bring letty and fernando together'.
they did not know how to end LFMB bc they got all tangled up. i think marcia even ends up as president, which doesnt bother me. but i felt like that was done to make up for the fact she lost fernando.
but there’s something about Armando’s desperation to be with Betty during the gaslighting arc that neither of his counterparts has been able to replicate.
ocampo would not let jaime do that bc its not suitable for children. (but also i dont think he can. he's not JEA. he's just not.) but oh my god yes. not one adaptation can do this. they dont get it. when u see the scene comparisons of the fight they have outside of el meson de san diego....there's something missing. and its called sexual tension. fernando is more sad while armando is juggling 25 different emotions and one of them is fear that he's losing betty and no knowing why.
im not ready to revisit LFMB yet, but there WERE good times (all the fun filler before she reads the letter). like it was so good until it got bad. but even at its worst, it wasn't betty in ny. so.

velvet pumpkin :)
velvet pumpkin: what do you like describing the most when it comes to scene dressing? share an excerpt
ah. hm. well here's the thing. and if you read most of what i write you will also notice it. i don't really do scene dressing. i do this:
character a and character b (others optional), sitting/standing/laying down, in [specific area], expressing [specific emotion], go.
this is bc i'm not writing anything super long-form rn! it's also because i'm writing halfway between prose and screenwriting. all i've got rn are moments that i'm brainrotting with until i write it down and these are mostly character interactions, specific scenes of action or dialogue, or bullet-pointed backstory. im gonna root thru my notes app and find something for you tho. i like finding unique ways to describe people a lot if that counts!!
OKAY i found something. i had to look in my google drive. this one is a little old and doesn't describe a set but i do think it sets a tone lol. dresses a scene if you will. under the readmore!
writer asks
____________
They walked into the classroom single-file, and they looked ridiculous. Melody, dressed in heavy winter garb with only a slit for her eyes, fumbling to find a seat. Lupa, sauntering in like she already knew what assignment was due, her human ears and almost clean-shaven appearance smoothing her features uncomfortably. Omar didn’t even bother to change. Al was, well. Invisible. So she got a pass.
Jaime, the only passably normal one, had Cyrus tucked away in his book bag, and of course, Cyrus would not shut up. The faint echo of clicky chatter was thankfully muffled behind the Jansport’s front pocket. “You know, they’ve never noticed me in the past! All it took was a little hypnosis. Sure, they might repeat the lesson several times, forget their names, but all the better for the exams, am I right?”
Nearly two steps in, Lupa bumped into a stair railing and yelped “Shit!” with a distinctively doglike whine, and the auditorium turned all eyes to the group of Very Normal Humans (and One Bat). “Really, it would be fine--”. Omar elbowed the book bag.
“What, they not teach you how to curse here?” Lupa yelled, unnecessarily loud, and flopped into a chair. The class turned around murmuring, like a flock of birds, or like dominoes. All at once, shuffling.
“Fucking creepy.” Melody mumbled. “Also, I’m pretty sure I’m getting heat stroke. I don’t think I’ve ever sweat before, but this might make me.”
Before Al could grab the water bottle, Lupa reached out to stop her reach. “They’ll just see it floating, Jenkins, let me handle it.”
She tossed it to Mel, who caught it between oven mitts. The siren didn’t even hesitate to douse her face with it. Mel blinked the rest of the water away. Lupa gave her an enthusiastic thumbs up; Omar buried his head in his hands and groaned.
