I must begin with a confession that I am not a member of the OLSCHK, not even an active user on this sub, but I have been a supporter of the club for almost 20 years. Not only do I support the football side of our club, but also the values our club represents.

Despite the fantastic start of the season, I have not been able to fully enjoy the football due to what's happening in Hong Kong. To briefly explain the situation, the HK government had proposed an extradition law which if passed would enable the government to extradite essentially anyone they wish back to China. Since June there has been protests and demonstration against the passing of such law almost every weekend, 3 of them with millions of participants. Still the government refused to fully retract the proposed law, and worse the police force has continuously used excessive force (e.g. a first-aider was shot blind by the police's bean bag shot; police using baton to force a large crowd onto an escalator, leading to stampede; firing tear gases indoor, sexually abusing female protesters, torturing arrested protesters leading to multiple bone fractures on over 40 protesters in one single occasion, etc.). In the midst of such circumstances, OLSCHK has issued this statement on 1st September, 2019

Here is a rough translation of the statement:-

"On 15th April, 1989, the Hillsborough Disaster had lead to the lost of 96 souls in the Liverpool family. After the Disaster the police, with the help of the S\n, has tried to frame the LFC family by altering witnesses statements. We have all been fighting for the Justice for the 96 ever since and not until the 2012 Independent Panel report and the subsequent 2016 verdict, 27 years after the disaster, has justice been served.*

To Liverpool, livelihood and politics has always been closely connected with our football. As a LFC supporter, it is impossible to ignore the blatant policy brutality happening in front of our eyes.

The Liverpool family had paid a huge price in 1987, but after 27 long years justice has been served. We believe that for what is happening in Hong Kong right now, justice will eventually arrive.

On a personal level, we are in the opinion that every LFC supporters with righteousness should clear themselves from any association with the HK police, and to any LFC supporters from the HK police, you should be leaving an organization that uses brutal and excessive forces against the people, not the LFC family.

Justice may arrive late, but it will always be manifested.

I am not trying to equate what happened in Hillsborough 1987 to what is happening in Hong Kong, nor do I think the issuers of the statement are, but I believe that the desire for justice and freedom is what make us, as LFC supporters, bond so strongly. While I understand the club's position, I have to say I am truly disappointed with the request to retract this statement.
