2015. From Beyond
is the fourth album by band Enforcer.
What a Killer piece of good ol speed. 80's speed with todays improved production makes this one to get. Enforcer reminds you why Metal will never die. Early eighties style Heavy Metal with a singer who isn't afraid to hit the high notes. It's fast n heavy if you are week not for you, this is for real metalheads.

THE EVIL NEXT DOOR - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Magnet Releasing
SYNOPSIS: Shirin is dealing with many changes in her life. Her and partner, Fredrik, have relocated and moved into a new duplex. She has taken on the role of stepmom to Fredrik’s son, Lucas. Lucas is still dealing with trauma from the death of his mother. The new home feels like the right place for a new start to become a family. Fredrik is called to a job back in their old town and is away from home during the week. Left alone during the day to finish unpacking and getting their new home in order, Shirin begins to hear strange things coming from the other, uninhabited house their home is attached to on the side. Then there are the whispers between Lucas and a new friend?
REVIEW: Sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to reweave a bunch of overused horror elements in a way that makes for an engaging and creepy horror film like THE EVIL NEXT DOOR.
Instead of a child having to wander into the woods to find the haunted house, as in a Grimm’s Fairy Tale, what if that house was semi-attached to your new home. Added into the mix are all the psychological traumas of the loss of a spouse/mother, moving to a new town, becoming a parent overnight, the lack of trust as to what is happening just piles up and adds to the tension and anxiety. The film opens with a prologue as to what happened to the former owners, which adds to the viewer's stress as we know there is danger lurking in this tranquil, picture perfect, suburban environment. I enjoyed when Shirin tries to take control as she begins to investigate and seeks out the former owners. She encounters some unique reactions, even from the neighbors. We’re not sure what they do or don't know, but they treat the subject like it's taboo and Shirin as if she is a pariah. We aren’t provided with any backstory on Shirin, so we don’t know if she was married prior, what her motherly status might be, or how she met Fredrik. Even though we feel for Lucas, this is still Shirin’s story. It is about finding the strength, the motherly instincts, to face this evil and rescue an innocent. At its core the film can be seen as a modern adaptation of Henry James 1898 horror novella “The Turn of the Screw.” Shirin in many ways is reminiscent of the governess in James’ story.
The question becomes what is this evil presence abducting children? Is it some ancient spirit of the forest that has taken refuge in this abandoned house because we have encroached on its territory? Is it the physical manifestation of some darker energy that resides in the community? Much in the same way nature uses deception to lure in and to trap its prey, this entity uses a child-like appearance to lure in the child. It’s similar to Stephen King’s Pennywise the clown in his novel “It.” This entity preys on Lucas’ isolation and initially befriends him. Ultimately when it's true malevolent nature is revealed it is only through brute force that it can secure its prey.
Directors and screenwriters Tord Danielsson & Oskar Mellander do an outstanding job of creating contrast between light and shadow to bring this nightmare to the screen. The creature is all about movement and sound design as it lurks about. They employ some time tested tricks of their craft to instill tension and suspense into the story. The filmmakers get excellent performances from their cast. You sense the complex emotions of each character as they struggle with the real life and the nightmarish horrors of the story.
Actress Dilan Gwyn And young actor Eddie Eriksson Dominguez are the foundation of the film. Gwyn does an incredible job of allowing you to believe that she is this vulnerable person who is struggling to maintain her sanity as she deals with all that is thrown at her. When she comes to a crossroad she does this brilliant transformation as she brings forth the fortitude and strength to confront this creature. Young Dominguez is splendid as this child who is dealing with this loss and massive changes in his life. He adds so much depth to the character as he phases through a variety of emotional states. The rest of the cast is engaging, but the viewer’s emotional investment lies solely on the performances of Gwyn and Dominguez.
THE EVIL NEXT DOOR is a splendidly crafted tale of old dark houses, bogeymen, the fight to preserve innocence, and what a parental figure will sacrifice for a child. There is so much going on here that it is a cornucopia of horror. This directing/screenwriting duo are master storytellers who are making the leap from TV and episodic entertainment to feature films. Not only will I be on the lookout for their next film and feel I should seek out their other projects in the meantime.
