Hi!! I just wanted to tell you that I ripped through all of oleander yolling last night and it was absolutely amazing?? Your writing style is incredible, your dialogue is so snappy, and your characterizations are absolutely perfect. I loved the relationship between Zelda and Marie, and I was wondering for a long time about how it would go when/if Zelda disclosed some of her more unsavoury habits to her. Hilda was also just phenomenal (I loved the little bits with Salem too!) The Spellman family backstory is one we so needed - what an interesting direction that the show could have taken - but I'm really glad it was left in your capable hands and that they didn't mess with it. There were certain passages where I had to pause and just smile to myself because of how well written they were. And the end!!! The softest and most perfect ending imaginable. Did you write the rhyme?I looked it up and couldn't find it anywhere, but it sounds exactly like a traditional nursery rhyme. Also loved the historical tidbits with Wu Zetian (and parallels with Zelda) and of course, the beginnings of Marie's backstory. You've done an amazing job of fleshing out her character and I would absolutely love to read more about your Marie if you decided to write a continuation. Thank you so much for your amazing work, I can't wait to read other stuff by you!

Oleander Yolling has been my favourite fic to write by far and sort of become my baby when really it started as just a cute bit of Zarie from Hilda’s point of view. 

The Spellmans could have such a gorgeous backstory and, given how many Spellman names we’ve been given I’m kind of surprised they didn’t give us any in all honesty! But it gave me more to run with so I can’t really complain.

I came across the rhyme after a fair bit of research as I love the idea that Zelda has different pieces of music that represent periods of her life and wanted something reminiscent of her childhood so started searching 17th century murder ballads (which are the most Zelda thing possible in my opinion!) There’s never really a full consensus on the title/lyrics, but this is the version I used for this fic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CljGmmd3Zrc

I’m so happy to hear that you’d want to hear more about Marie because I’m already part way through my first draft for the follow up fic and Marie’s backstory is a doozy if I do say so myself! I’ve got a couple of other projects I want to get live before that one, but I’m hoping the first chapter will go up next month.

This fic is my baby and is pure self indulgence on my part. It’s the first time I’d written from Hilda’s POV and if I had more stories that could be told through her eyes I would never write from another perspective again. (That’s a barefaced lie, I adore writing Zelda’s unspoken hope being crushed in the most angst-filled manner to ever give up writing her POV.) It let me research for days, which is my true weakness, and carries on my endless Zarie love. I’m currently working on the final chapter and I’m so excited for people to finally be able to read the scene that made me write this in the first place!

Water in a Whiskey Glass

Honestly everything about this one made me nervous. While I’m a-okay with writing dark and twisty this felt more delicate and far more in need of care and respect. Add to that that this isn’t my ship, I didn’t want to write it from a ship perspective, I wasn’t sure how it would be received, and the fact that I’m so much more comfortable writing women and pressing ‘post’ had me terrified. 

80 years before canon, a Spellman/Blackwood alliance would solidify their place at the head of two of the coven's most powerful families. Tomorrow would bring it about, tomorrow she would have Hilda confirm it, and tomorrow she would start the journey to most powerful witch the Church of Night had seen in centuries. 

How do you choose titles?:

I hate choosing titles! I got around it for a while by writing a series that featured what I saw as key musical movements of Zelda’s life (if you’re telling me dramatic polyglot, Miss Zelda Spellman, wouldn’t have listened to a bit of Pucchini or 18th century murder ballads then we’ll have to agree to disagree) but if there’s no music in it then I’ll pick a line that seems vaguely apt seconds before posting.

Do you outline?:

Gods no! I’ll write a two/three line summary, tops and then I’m completely relying on Zelda to take the reigns and do whatever the fuck she wants.

I wish you would write a fic that explores Hilda and Zelda’s relationships with Edward! You’ve touched on it a bit in Oleander Yolling and I’m intoxicated by the idea of you exploring that further!!! 😍😍😍 you know I love a Spellman Siblings fic!!! 😈😈😈

You know my soft spot for the Spellman sisters! I haven’t actually put too much thought into how I’d write Edward so I’ll need to do some thinking! I love a good challenge so I’ve got a couple of little ideas brewing already! Are you thinking young Spellmans like in Oleander Yolling, or closer to canon time period?
