This isn’t exactly a Wednesday night wine but I felt like opening it last night. The oldest wine I’ve ever had at 91 years. This 1928 Gran Reserva Rioja from Federico Paternina was my treat for dinner last night. ———————————————— As you can see from the decanter photo, there is some slight browning at the edges as you would expect, and oxidation on the nose. But this old beauty was surprisingly lively with fruit still present and some decent tannins. It got better over the course of the evening and was very smooth by the 4th glass. 😊 ————————————————- An interesting fact about this wine is that it was aged in large oak casks for 40 YEARS before bottling.
