Being human

I was at my cousins birthday party just now and my gran pulled me aside and asked about school. I told her i was in automotive and she rolled her eyes. She started to tell me i have to do something different. That a girl should be a nurse or a vet. That the jobs i wanted to do were for boys.

But i am a boy? Just because my body isn't doesn't mean i cant do a mans job. Ive never had someone say the things she said to me. Sure she is in the dark about me being trans, but even then how can you tell someone they cant do a job because of their genitals. The whole time my parents referred to me as my legal name and didn't use my preferred pronouns, all because we were around people. I realize no matter how hard i try to sympathize with people they are going to turn their heads and make the situations they fall into -because of me being trans- better for themselves.

All i want is for the people i love to stop hiding who i am for their own benefits. I want to be able to make an honest living working hard without being criticized on my gender. I want to walk outside and feel okay because to everyone else im just some random guy they passed by. When do we get to be treated as humans. When will the fact that we have feelings too, be noted. I wish we were all treated with respect and that our homes were truly the safest places for us on earth. We have feelings and voices. We can get hurt and feel pain. We can see right from wrong. Can they?

Why Millennials (this one anyways) love wine so much.

I'm a millennial, and I'm obsessed with wine. Good wine! I'm not a snob, I swear, I'm a geek. But the thing about Generation Y is, we expect everything to go our way even when the times are significantly against us. We want what we drink to taste damn good and it to be made in a respectable and responsible way...and to get us our buzz. My generation of wine geeks aren't focused on vintages and what ages well. We're focused on what can we bring to the next social gathering. What's affordable and delicious? What can we buy and drink everyday? We're not focused on what some old, conservative, wine critic has to say because, we generally think old people suck. Progress in wine, as in anything else, is to move forward. Bring on the weird, funky and indigenous grapes of smaller, lesser known regions or countries! Expand our horizons! Old school wine drinkers believe wine should be about price and social status and how much Burgundy and Bordeaux you have in your cellar. Oh you have Petrus? I have Arnot-Roberts Trousseau, suck it! I drink Riesling, I drink rose and I hate Cabernet Sauvignon. I love new world wine, and Beaujolais! I love drinking and tasting wines because it can transport you to another part of the world! I believe in drinking good wine with integrity right now. Wine was a drink meant to be shared and poured for all! Not something only the rich can afford. I mean Jesus turned water into wine to make the wedding he had attended better! He was a young, hip socialite who asked his father for some vino and got it. Carpe Vino.
