I’ve been away...

I’ve been away and I’m so sorry, it’s just that I’ve had one of the most miserable past couple of weeks. On December 16th my oldest brother, who was 26, passed away.

I wasn’t as close with him as I wish I had been, I had repeatedly thought about getting together with him, but through everything he was my big brother. Not even a week before he passed, we had made plans to watch all of the Harry Potter movies before going and seeing Fantastic Beasts together, along with his girlfriend of nine years.

There are so many pieces to a life and when it is lost there is no amount of time spent trying to piece it all together that will give you the whole ever again.

I have heard so many stories of how my brother was throughout his life. I’ve heard about how he said he was ‘a whole handful’ at the age of five, and then ‘two handfuls’ when he was ten. How he would use a wooden decorative cross in sword fights against my other older brother. I heard about his addiction issues, how he got clean and helped other close friends and his ‘family’ get clean. I’ve heard about his obsessive needs of PS4′s in every room so he could play video games anywhere at home. I’ve heard about his bike ride’s and the bar he would stop at after rides every single time he rode.

I saw so many photos of him, although he had hated taking photos if anyone asked, yet he really loved being in them. Miah had such innocent faces from his childhood, and then silly ones as he hit around the age of ten. There were hardly any photos aruond his teenage years, and then of course his senior photos. Brooke had many photos of him around today, but there were so many memories that we just wished we had photos of. There were so many things that we could see and reminice and yet so many things we wished there were photos of. Watching the family grow in so many photos and each and every one of them would remind me of the emptiness that is left.

Emptiness is exactly how I have felt for these past couple of weeks. How can somebody fill that void? They can’t, and I would never let someone try to fill it either. Being able to turn to my oldest brother with questions about so many things and he was ready to answer them is something I will never fully have again. The protectiviness of Miah was unparalleled to anything and anyone, there was nothing he wouldn’t do to keep us younger siblings safe and protected.

He cared so much and acted so tough. He was a giant marshmellow inside and I am going to miss the secret love he had for all of us siblings and our family.

I can’t accept all of the memories I am going to miss out on. Having him there to turn to at funerals, having him get over-protective of me to my boyfriend, having him there at my wedding, him beeping my kids nose, him being an Uncle to my kids, being an Aunt to his kids, him seeing me graduate college, him seeing me become a teacher, him seeing me possibly become a writer with published works, there are so many more things that I am going to want to turn to him for in the future and won’t be able to. The missed memories are the ones I am going to find the most crushing.
