Finally finished my Marley backstory thing!

To answer the question of "why is Scrooge 2022's Marley Like That," I wrote a profile of Jacob Marley's life from birth to death. Each chapter represents a time period indicated by the chapter title.

I read the Jacob Marley timeline by Oldandnewfirm, and considering how his brother died from scarlet fever, does Jacob get PTSD whenever Scrooge and Isabel are sick? I can kinda imagine him thinking Ebenezer continuing working even through illness is "a sign he isn't dying" and brings him comfort as a result.

Ooooh, yes I can definitely see him being paranoid about illness! He'd be a germaphobe, too, had people known about germs back in those days. But since it was still believed that diseases were caused by foul smells at that point in time, he probably just douses himself in perfume every morning. Ebenezer might get a dose too, for good measure.

Re: the Kraglin and Yondu vs Martinex and Stakar thread, I do wonder how much of Yondu's past Kraglin actually knew prior to GotG2. He looked pretty uncomfortable during the conversation between Rocket and Yondu on the Quadrant, which could have been a natural reaction to being a bystander during a charged moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was reacting to learning some details of Yondu's past too, having joined the Ravagers/befriended him too late to be privy to Yondu's full backstory.

I do think some of Yondu’s past was general knowledge among the crew. The rift with Stakar and Yondu’s exile from the Ravagers definitely was. Since there’s no canon one way or the other, it’s pretty much a matter of personal headcanon whether everyone knew about Yondu having been a slave, and how much they knew about that ...

Personally I think Kraglin already knew that Yondu had been a slave. Obviously different interpretations are equally plausible, but it’s such a huge thing about his past that I really don’t see Yondu actively trying to keep it secret -- for that matter, I think the way he’d deal with it in public is in a “fuck, I don’t care about that, it was 20 years ago” kind of way. It’s part of his macho image that he Just Don’t Give a Crap, and everyone on the crew has a sob story anyway, so I don’t think he’d want anyone to know that he’s still affected by it -- including by trying to keep it secret.

But Yondu is so controlled and so private that Kraglin probably had never seen him be openly emotional about it like that before. And he probably didn’t know most of the details.

I kind of wish they'd found a better actor to be young! Pete because that kid looks NOTHING like Chris Pratt. Though it wouldn't make sense to have a casting call for such a minor role. I'm guessing he's a family member or friend of someone on the crew.

The boy who plays the younger Peter in the flashback is Wyatt Oleff and he actually is an actor and not some family member or something. And they had a casting call, he played him in GotG, too. And personally, I think if you compare him in GotG to pictures of younger Chris Pratt he doesn’t look that off. He just grew up to look different and they didn’t recast him.

Thanks for the good thoughts. We are missing Cleo a lot, particularly in the evening when she would climb up my chest and flop on my shoulder, but puppy has been a good distraction. Now we just have to teach him not to jump on the cats. He knocked Indy over the other day, and Indy is nearly three times his weight!

Hisoka and Illumi will be back in the arc after the current one! And yeah, the ant arc drags a bit– but as payment for your patience, it offers incredible conclusions to multiple character arcs. Even though I thought it went on a bit long at first, I now think it’s one of the best story arcs I’ve ever seen, period.

It doesn’t help that I missed an ep or two in there, but it’s definitely starting to get ~creepy in a great way. AND YAY, I’ll be looking forward to it.

What are your speculations on how the Guardians will evolve as a team and as individuals in the four year span between GOTG 2 and Infinity War?

I expect they will have bonded closely by that time! I don’t actually think they’re going to appear TOO different from how we see them at the end of GotG2 except that they will have gotten better at working smoothly as a team. (Well, smoothly for them, anyway.) 

For Peter and Gamora’s sake, I hope their unspoken thing is now more of a spoken thing, because as much as I love the slow pace their relationship has been taking in their own movies, four years is a LONG DAMN TIME to live together on a small ship without anything ever happening between them if it’s going to. (That is ... it makes a lot of sense to me that they’re still taking it slow a few months after meeting. I like that. If they’re STILL taking it that slow four years later, I might be starting to wonder if they actually have a future as a couple or if they’re better off as friends.)

But yeah, I expect they’ll be working together easily as a team, finishing each other’s sentences, bickering a lot in a friendly kind of way, and just generally being an adorable space mercenary family.

Yeah, she loves sleeping and schedules. She’s the small, dark, fuzzy one; the other one is twice as big and lighter and sleeker. They’re both amazing and adorable, though, so they can be hard to tell apart when they aren’t next to each other

I'm still holding my breath on the Hisoillu thing. Fan translations have been known to be wrong (or at least awkwardly interpreted) before, and Illumi declaring a previously unknown romantic relationship with Hisoka in front of a bunch of mostly-strangers would be odd. If the Viz translation backs up Mangastreams, then I'll be on board. We'll know in a few days at any rate.
