ok prev post literally threw me back to 5 years ago when i took that sociology course, and im realising just how lucky i was to have been there at the right place and time bc that course seems to have been a once in a lifetime thing and i still think about it to this day. the main thing that stuck with me was the talk about botanical gardens and nature collections, their whole colonialistic origin and sustenance, the dark history of stealing natural resources and knowledge from natives worldwide, etc. a bit of a tangent now but every other day i go back to "what if i just worked in a natural museum / nature collection" and actually make it worthwhile at a biological and social level etcetctetc Yeah.
