this is shrimp okoy cookie, fried shrimp's weird grandma. she calls him "shrimpy" and would always tell him, "remember shrimpy! everything's legal as long as there's no crème soldiers around!". shes the real g, the grandma ever, the tax evader, a proud cookie of the sea who calls vanillian descendants "soft dorks" or "sugar weenies".

Do you have any book recommendations about geisha? I’ve already read Mineko Iwasaki’s autobiography and really enjoyed it and was wondering if there are any other good books about geisha and the karyukai that you know of.

Let me focus on books with a lot of text, since you enjoyed Mineko's autobiography. If you want photo book recommendations, feel free to ask about those, too! :) Three Geishas (1956) by Kikou Yamata short biographies of three Meiji era Geisha: Okichi お吉 from Shimoda (lived 1841-1890), Okoi お鯉 from Tokyo-Shinbashi (1880-1948) and Tsumakichi 妻吉 from Osaka-Horie (1888-1968) Autobiography of a Geisha (1957) by Sayo Masuda about a girl that was sold to an Okiya in Kamisuwa Onsen, became a Geisha named Tsuruyo 鶴代, and overall led a miserable life I, a Geisha (1969) by Kikuya brings a basic overview about Tokyo Geisha and their history, the author was an Akasaka Geisha (Kikuya 菊弥) Geisha (1983) by Liza Dalby this book is probably more famous than Mineko's autobiography. Liza Dalby lived with Pontocho Geiko while working on her dissertation, and this is about her experiences during that stay in Japan (I have to admit, I never read it entirely...) Subtle Beauty (2014) by Kazuhiko Matsumura essays with photos on various Kyoto Geiko (Japanese with English translation in the same book)
