#a study in sex drugs and french#~it is better to persuade by examplẽ#and the example is 'well getting drunk was very bad for mark anthony in all of the following ways'#okay i am willing to accept that alcohol is bad for mark anthony#but since i am not mark anthony that doesn't really affect me?#without introducing the premise of 'you are in no relevant way better than mark anthony'#this doesn't persuade anyone of anything?#it's just a list of shit some guy did#and the conclusion can be anything from#'don't be famous' over 'don't drink in public' to 'mark anthony couldn't hold his liquor'#people are very good at going 'rip to [whoever] but i'm different'#just because i preface a syllogism with half a novel's worth of examples#doesn't somehow make it not a syllogism?
