Inktober Day 4 Taeko Okajima

There is a little hidden gem called Only Yesterday that has to be my favorite film I’ve ever seen. I kin Taeko, I love her so much

This is an underrated Ghibli movie, I feel like nobody ever talks about it! But I am changing that!

Taeko is a woman who is 27 years old, she has never lived outside of Tokyo, she has a decent job at a company, one day she decides that she wants to take some days off to finally go out of the city for once, she goes to a small town where she stays on a farm with a family, throughout the movie she recalls many things she lived back when she was 10 years old, and how the things she experienced back then still have an impact later on her life.

The segments of the movie where she is 10 years old are actually very interesting, especially seeing them on contrast with her 27 year old self. Usually we underestimate the opinion of kids, I don't know why we so quickly disregard their opinions, I don't know why are we so harsh on kids, when we were kids we used to believe that adults have all the answers, but as we grow up we feel as lost as we did back when we were little.

Taeko at times want to silent her 10 year old self, and at times she remembers mistakes she made when he was 10 years old and she still tortures herself for those mistakes. The movie explains us that we should always listen to the kid inside us, and it also teaches us to forgive the little kid we used to be, we should tell ourselves "don't worry, you were just a kid, you didn't know at the time that things would go this way" you should tell your kid self all the reassuring things that you needed.

Only Yesterday

A common "working woman," Taeko Okajima, holds a job at a significant enterprise situated in a bustling metropolis. After embarking on a lengthy hiatus to the countryside of Yamagata Prefecture, her brother-in-law's birthplace, her expedition triggers recollections of her fifth-grade year. Throughout her residence in Yamagata, she diligently and joyfully partakes in agricultural activities with the aid of cordial kinsfolk and inhabitants, inducing additional reminiscences. Her reception graciously provided by the locals prompts Taeko to reconsider her path in life.
