my mom explained to me the plot of cloud cuckoo land (written by the same author who did all the light we cannot see) and i started listening to the audiobook and it's rly good. i'm honestly a huge fan of this kind of this interwoven plotlines spanning the past and present kinda thing.
i mean one of my fav books as a kid was the last elf which is like 2 seemingly separate plotlines tied from a shared past that come together so beautifully. also both books have this greek mythology or old folk tale kinda voice which is very charming and addictive for ppl who got rly into mythologies as a kid.
but anyway the title "cloud cuckoo land" reminded me of the movie cloud atlas, so we watched most of it today before having to go play vb. and it's shockingly also based on the same concept, multiple plot lines connected across the past, present, and future.
like what is it abt the word "cloud" that makes ppl want to talk abt the past and the future as one? it's like the word is so evocative of simultaneously a nostalgic and simpler past, and a technologically elevated future. or maybe the cloud cuckoo land author just took inspiration from that movie/book. or maybe it's just "daedalus core" like classic melding a futuristic aesthetic with an ancient setting (the first chapter of cloud cuckoo land is extremely reminiscent of daedalus in his tower, again with the greek mythology callback).
anyway the general theme is similar as well, the transcendental nature of [human storytelling] or [the complex relationships between humans] across generations and time periods. and i'm eating this shit right up.
but even tho the movie is conceptually a masterpiece it's honestly so fucking hard to follow like first of all my facial recognition is like extremely poor. i feel like i gotta watch it at least 6 times to fully appreciate it
