SGAO | Unrequited Destiny 1
Aoi was an amazing girl with an astounding caliber.
Everyone knew who she was. From the day she stepped foot inside Naranja Academy, she made her name through countless victories and charming personality. Her academic status was pretty good. Though she didn’t rank first in subjects, her grades were more than enough to impress teachers and lecturers. If she chose to further her studies, any university was more than happy to endorse her. Her battle prowess rivalled Nemona’s, and Aoi had attracted many sponsors at the early age of 14 when she was known to be the first ever person to actually defeat the school president.
Those sponsorship offers only multiplied when she became the second trainer to reach champion status in Paldea.
Her battle talent wasn’t the only thing that caught people’s attention. From the gleaming shine of her upturned black eyes to the dazzling shade of her deep maroon hair, almost everyone would be entranced by her. Her smile was pleasant to many, and Aoi made sure to show it often. Sometimes it’s accompanied with a low laugh. Sometimes it’s accompanied with husky voice. The combination alone sent boys and girls aflutter. From the valiant shouts in the commands of her battles to the lovely laugh in whatever conversation she was in, people could watch and listen for days.
And her eyes.
Though eyes were usually shielded by sunglasses, none could deny the breathtaking sparkle that shined under the bright sunlight. That sparkle only intensified whenever she was in a battle, and everyone in school would flock and gather just to see such a handsome sight. It became a habit for Aoi to wink cheekily at the audience. And this action once caused an exciting uproar that teachers and prefects had to sometimes pacify before it got more chaotic.
Aoi did get a lecture from the teachers after the battle when she first did that.
As guilty and embarrassed as she was, she promised not to do it again—much.
Given her talent and personality, it wasn’t a wonder that Aoi would get confessions every now and then. She remembered the first confession she had ever gotten; it was from a girl in the next class. In truth, Aoi remembered being stumped and stunned to be receiving a confession in the first 4 months she had been enrolled in the school. The girl was absolutely adorable, and the way her cheeks flushed really did made her chest ache just for a bit.
But Aoi knew she didn’t have any real feelings for the fellow schoolmate.
As flattered as she was, she knew she wouldn’t make the right girlfriend for her. She barely knew the girl. She knew it wouldn’t be fair to treat her like a guinea pig to see whether or not her own feelings were romantic or not. So, with a deep breath, Aoi politely turned her down and requested if it was okay for them to become friends instead.
It was nerve-wrecking for Aoi, especially when the girl’s eyes started to water.
Thankfully, after a few weeks of awkward glances in the school corridor, the girl was comfortable enough to stay as friends. That day, Aoi felt extremely relieved as she never liked the idea of people hating or despising her.
However, that relief was short-lived when she got another confession the week after.
This time, it was a boy, one who was a year older than her. Aoi was just as surprised, but she remained composed from the previous confession and turned him down as well. The actions left the boy heartbroken. But once again, after a few weeks of the same awkward encounters, the boy got over it and treated Aoi like any other schoolmate.
And then Aoi received another.
And another.
And another.
Once she reached 15, it had already become a routine of her usual life.
But no matter how it went or who it was, her heart remained closed, tucked and hidden like a flower who longed for sunshine.
Even in her treasure hunt, Aoi still bumped into her classmates and schoolmates. They still declared how amazing and lovely she was, and that they cheered for her whenever she was battling a gym leader. Aoi was flattered and frankly, a bit shy when she knew people still admired her despite the fact that she technically wasn’t on school grounds anymore.
Penny said that ‘people admiring her’ was an understatement; Aoi had a fan club, after all.
But hey, if it didn’t bother people and it in fact made others happy and occupied, who was she to complain?
Aoi was an amazing girl who was loved and respected by many people.
Unfortunately, she would soon realize not everyone held same respect and admiration for her.
Especially when it was someone whom her heart was ready to bloom for.
