Have you seen the picture of Patrice hugging Brad? His eyes are closed and every single time I look at it I just think "absolution" and I have no idea why!! It's like...idk, a picture of Judas hugging Jesus right after the betrayal. Brad is hugging Patrice after a terrible thing happened, but Patrice still loves him dearly.
Oh your posts make me crazy!! (affectionate)
I Have Not and imma be honest with you, i don't think i can handle googling "marchand bergeron hug" at this present moment.
(im still fragile. i WILL cry)
what i will do instead is offer you a few Glück poems that make me think of judas/marchy jesus/bergy:
"A world in process / of shifting, of being made or dissolved, / and yet we didn't live that way; / all of us lived our lives / as the simultaneous ritualized enactment / of a great principle, / something felt but not understood. / And the remarks we made were like lines in a play, / spoken with conviction but not from choice."
― Louise Glück, The Seven Ages
"Then // the world drew back; the mutant / fell from love / as from the cherry branch, / it fell stained with the bloody / fruit of the tree. // So it is true after all, not merely / a rule of art: / change your form and you change your nature. / And time does this to us."
― Louise Glück, Parable of the Dove
"I regret bitterly / The years of loving you in both / Your presence and absence, regret / The law, the vocation / That forbid me to keep you."
― Louise Glück, Circes torment
also a few lines from The Play That Started It All:
CUNNINGHAM: What did Jesus say to Judas at the last supper?
SIMON THE ZEALOT: He said, “Do what you gotta do.”
CUNNINGHAM: Sounds like Jesus approved.
SIMON THE ZEALOT: Maybe.
CUNNINGHAM: But if you were Judas, Simon, and “doing what you had to do” ended up getting you thrown into despair and hanging from a tree and then sent to Hell to live in misery and infamy in perpetuity—if you were Judas—wouldn’t you have kinda wished that Jesus had maybe said something else instead?
