“YOU ALMOST GOT YOURSELF KILLED.”

She shakes her head,  looking down at the floor below instead of to him  ----  because the thought of no longer being her with him isn’t something she can think about.  And for the first time,  it’s not a selfish thought  ---  it’s not about what she’s losing.  Her own life used to come before everything else  ---  it had to,  because it was the only way to survive.  But then she found a family;  she learned that life was more than just surviving day to day.  The survivor move used to be all she knew  ---  until she come to understand morality,  until the question of what was right versus what was wrong started to mean something to her.  This time,  it wasn’t about saving herself  ---  it was about saving everyone.  She learned that from her family.  

❝  I couldn’t just leave,  John.  ❞  Her voice is tired;  she still feels weak from the sickness  ----  but it doesn’t bother her;  there’s power in that, in knowing that for once in her life,  there was something that only she was capable of doing,  that people needed to rely on her because of that.  Does he know how much she needed that?

❝  Still alive.  ❞   Nonchalant,  like it’s no big deal,  because it doesn’t feel like one,  not when she’s been hurt worse before only fighting for her own life.  ❝  And so is everyone else.   Because of us,  John.  ❞
