#to explain some of it#the reveal usually feels like it's going through a checklist of points instead of being more organic#like it's just wants to get to the actual plot already so the tallests and/or zim act out of character#what comes after is usually good though#zim wins is usually pretty boring to me#i mean it can be done well the comics did it and it was hilarious (both the future zim issue and the spacebunny comic) but the way#it's executed in the fandom is not that memorable to me#however with dib wins i've seen more than once both of them having interesting developments#like dib realizing he's still not happy and zim being humbled or dib loosing his humanity and zim being pushed deeper into denial#clone dib is perfectly fine but it's usually the same conflict#zim is defective is literally a core part of his character just like his height he wouldn't be zim without it#my problem with horrible father membrane that he often becomes a completely different person (or have all of his positive traits vanished)#instead of building on his flaws from canon#thankfully homophobic membrane is not common anymore#sharp teeth irkens is kinda meh i mean i don't mind aesthetically but their zipper teeth makes them stand out and less common for#antagonistic forces than sharp teeth#i love zim in earth clothes because it often includes him bonding either dib or gaz or both of them and i especially love when he ends#up combining his style with the empire's and the new things he found and liked#i just like good father membrane we gotta see him trying and dib and gaz having a better family life it's adorable#i'm sucker for dib and zim getting along and love a lot of fics about it but there are times when it downplays their bad actions towards#the other and only puts the blame on the tallests/control brains/classmates/human society#etc.#i prefer the fics when they both improove as people and realize how much they hurted each other#zim getting called out for what he did and him actually listening and/or not forgiven by others and have to live with the responsibility is#so satisfying too#him ignoring it in canon is really funny though#this got out of hand#this is kinda long and not organized but whatever i have more opinions than i thought i did#oh yeah and dib n zim still being assholes to each other as friends is fun too
