i’m so concerned how the lifespan of memes are shortening. Like, someone will make a joke, then people oversaturate the joke across multiple platforms, then corporations try and capitalize it which is the unspoken signal that it’s dead and gone. I don’t see much room for the meme to evolve or live in internet consciousness to be used again, even as a vehicle for other memes/jokes and not as the central meme/joke in and of itself. I get that everyone wants to get in on the meme and trend themselves (who doesn’t wanna go viral?) but idk, we gotta give breathing room for it and maybe even enjoy the funny variations it has instead of sharing it all at once, at the same time.

Like, doge and top text/bottom text and vines are old by internet standards, and while people don’t use them as The joke anymore, they’ve since been used in other media content, even right AFTER they were considered “old” and they live on through that. That’s not what I see for new memes nowadays??? Like, I JUST found out what “Little Miss/Mr. X” was, and yet I see comments of it already being old? but it’s only been a week or so? Right? Am I old? is my sense of humor degrading? oh god, what if I’m complaining abt modern memes instead of laughing w/ it and I don’t even realize it??!!? goddamn i gotta sit down where’s my fucking cane
