Koushi always kept his windows open. Always.
In the winter, this transformed his room into a tiny Antarctica, replete with stray snowflakes, but in the summer, it meant cool tradewinds cutting through the typically stifling heat, creating a little pocket of the ideal climate. You often found yourself there in these warmer months, perched on the corner of his bed, contently listening to him blithely gossip about his teammates or playing a giggly game of Connect Four rife with not so subtle cheating.
Today, a sunny August Saturday, was no different. Koushi sat cross legged on the carpet. Sprawled out across his pale blue comforter, which smelled of fresh linen and that familiar Old Spice he’d been wearing since the eighth grade, you listened to him recite a chapter from your history book, something about post World War II foreign policy. Struggling to remain attentive, however, you found yourself spiraling into those cheerless resignations of hopelessness that had been far too frequent for you lately.
“--which resulted in Europe’s economic recovery chiefly in terms of raw materials, food, and fuel. The Soviet Union soon attempted to replicate a similar plan but ultimately-- hey, (Y/N)?”
You blinked hard and sunk back into reality, turning onto your cheek to look Koushi in his big brown eyes full of rather matronly concern. “Hmm?”
“Do you know what we’re learning about right now?” he asked, sounding both amused and disapproving. A strand of grey fell in front of his face and he quickly blew it away, smiling slightly. “Because it seems like you’ve been zoning out for the last ten or so minutes. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, but Mr. Shishido specifically said this chapter was going to be on the test.”
“Uh… something about muzzer Roosia?” you joked with an exaggerated accent.
Koushi rolled his eyes and flicked your forehead. You yelped and glared at him reproachfully. “We were talking about the Marshall Plan. The United States’ recovery aid program for Western Europe after wartime devastation.”
“Right, right, I knew that,” you protested as Koushi tugged on your forearms and you toppled off the bed, nearly landing right on top of him. With a soft laugh, he extracted his limbs from yours and plopped his head into your lap like he used to when you were kids, resting beneath the boughs of that little oak tree in his backyard, listening to a choir of cicadas croon under a late afternoon sun. The ghost of a grin flitted over your face as you looked back on those halcyon days of your childhood. Usually Koushi’s mom would come out onto the porch with a couple of already-melting lemon popsicles in hand, and the two of you would scramble out of each other’s embrace and tear towards her, breathlessly racing for a priceless reward of sweet smiles and sticky hands.
What you wouldn’t give to go back to that time of gleeful oblivion, before your world became characterized by that all too persistent self-consciousness and excruciating anxiety. What you wouldn’t give to once again feel worthy of Koushi’s innocent adoration…
“--(Y/N)!”
For the second time today, you shook yourself awake. Koushi gazed up at you, brows furrowed. “Sorry, what were you saying?”
“I was asking if you needed to take a little study break. Obviously, you do. I swear, your attention span gets shorter every day.” He pointed somewhere behind you. “Mind grabbing my phone? It’s on the bed.”
You leaned over as far as you could without disturbing Koushi’s position, head still nestled in your lap, and swept your hand over the covers before it bumped into his phone, which you promptly snatched and dropped onto his stomach. He gave a soft “oomph” at the impact before pulling up his Spotify and selecting a playlist, the cover of which was a selfie of the two of you at last year’s spring carnival. A blurred sakura tree provided the perfect backdrop for your smiling faces pressed cheek-to-cheek to fit in the frame. Sugar dusted the corners of Koushi’s mouth, the last trace of the powdered donut you’d shared right before.
“What’s that? I don’t think I’ve listened to that one before.” You reached for the phone, but Koushi held it out just out of reach as music began to play, batting your hand away. “I look awful in that picture; you could’ve chosen something a little more flattering.”
“Oh, shush. You looked pretty that day, wearing that blue sundress with the little flowers on the hem… blue really suits you, you know.” Koushi smiled fondly at his screen, and you blushed despite yourself. “It’s a compilation of all our songs. I listened to this a lot last summer when you were in France with your family for a month. Whenever I missed you. You were off climbing the Eiffel Tower or making croissants and I was lounging around here, bored out of my mind and wishing you were home so we could be bored together.”
“You sappy bastard,” you said, though you really felt quite touched. “I didn’t even realize we had a song.”
“Not just a song,” he corrected. “Songs. Plural. Most of the songs we’ve ever listened to together, I reckon. Anything that reminds me of you, I put on here.”
“Why in the world would you do that?” you asked, aghast at his effort.
Koushi laughed at your surprise. “You’re my best friend, (Y/N). And believe or not, you mean a lot to me. I just like remembering the stuff we’ve done together.”
You nodded slowly, letting your fingers rest on his forehead and gently play with his grey locks. His eyes closed as you settled into a brief, comfortable almost-silence, tainted only by the soft, muffled melody trickling from tiny phone speakers. You cocked your head. “What song is this?”
“You don’t remember?” Koushi asked, sounding almost offended. He turned the volume up a few notches and held the phone closer to your ear.
Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on
You got the healing that I want
Just like they say it in the song
Until the dawn, let's Marvin Gaye and get it on
“I don’t know if--” you cut off as it dawned on you. “Wait… no way. This isn’t…?”
“It is.” Koushi laughed as your face flushed a vivid crimson. “Uchimura’s party.”
Though embarrassed, you grinned, remembering that night. “The song that played at her twelfth birthday while we were in the closet during seven minutes in heaven.”
“We were way too young for that dumb game,” Koushi said with a smile, shaking his head. “God, I was so nervous. That was my first kiss, you know.”
“It was mine too,” you admitted. You remembered sitting on the carpeted floor of Uchimura’s rather cramped closet, knees touching, just barely able to see the outline of Koushi’s face illuminated by the smallest sliver of light shining through a crack in the door. He’d leaned forward, taking your hand in his own small clammy one. “It was really just a peck, though. It might not have counted.”
“It counted,” said Koushi firmly. “Whenever I get asked about my first kiss, I say it was ours. I say it was the best one I’ve ever had, too.”
You shook your head with a soft laugh. “Now, I know that’s a lie. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing.”
“Neither did I,” agreed Koushi. He caught your eye, crinkling his nose cutely. “That’s what made it so sweet. It was innocent. I tasted your bubblegum chapstick on my lips afterwards.”
“Bubblegum chapstick, huh?” You rolled your eyes and poked him softly in the ribs. “I couldn’t look you straight in the eyes for like three weeks after that.”
“I remember. You kept running away whenever I tried to talk to you.”
“Yeah, I know. I’m not sure we would’ve even stayed friends if Ms. Miyato hadn’t partnered us up for the volcano project at the end of that month.” You recalled those afternoons spent in Koushi’s kitchen, newspapers covering every visible surface and a huge, paper-mache volcano resting on the dining table, splattered with orange and yellow paint and smelling strongly of Elmer’s glue and vinegar. Oftentimes, work sessions would dissolve into paint fights, staining your school uniforms with small, colorful hand prints.
“Nah,” said Koushi confidently. “I wouldn’t have let you go that easily.”
“Maybe you should’ve,” you said under your breath.
Koushi stared at you for a second, sighing. Then he reached up to grasp your hand, interlocking his fingers with yours and softly stroking his thumb across your palm. “You know, it was Uchimura’s eighteenth last weekend. You didn’t come.”
“Yeah. I had to study.” That was a lie. You just hadn’t thought anyone really wanted you there. Uchimura had been a friend of yours for years, but she had plenty of other friends to celebrate with. Probably didn’t even notice you weren’t there…
“She asked me where you were,” Koushi continued. “I said I didn’t know because you didn’t answer my texts that night.”
“Sorry,” you said quietly, avoiding eye contact. “Studying.”
“On a Friday night?” You didn’t answer, and Koushi squeezed your hand. “I had to choose Daichi for my charades partner… do you have any idea how shit he is at charades? He flopped on the ground and started convulsing, so I guessed ‘epilepsy.’ Guess what the word really was.”
“What?”
“Orgasm. The word was orgasm. You’d think he could just execute a simple pelvic thrust and make a face, but no, he had to go ahead and act like my great uncle Kaito when he had that heart attack at his ninety-fifth birthday last year.”
You cracked a small smile, imagining Daichi violently wiggling on the floor like a fish out of water. “Sounds like I missed out, then.”
“You really did,” said Koushi, eyes twinkling. He suddenly got solemn. “I missed you. Would’ve been a million times more fun with you there.”
“I doubt it.” You fiddled with the edge of your shirt, smile fading. “I can be a real killjoy sometimes.”
“Not to me,” said Koushi. “Whenever you walk into the room, suddenly that’s the only room I wanna be in.”
Your breath caught in your throat and you swallowed thickly. “Koushi… why are you telling me this?”
“You’ve been avoiding me,” he said simply. He took your hand again, the one that had been playing with his hair, and held it to his chest. You felt his heart beat erratically beneath your palm. “You’ve been avoiding all our friends in general.”
“That’s not true,” you protested, though your heart sank. He had noticed. You wished you didn’t have to drag him into all your problems. “I’ve just been busy.”
“Busy with what, (Y/N)? Homework? Our physics teacher came and talked to me at my locker after school, asking if you’ve been struggling with any personal issues, because apparently you haven’t been turning in your assignments.” Koushi glanced up at you. “It seems like you’ve just been locked away in your room whenever you’re not in class. Not doing work, not going out. Remember a couple weeks ago, when I asked if you wanted to go see that movie with me at the drive-in? You said you had a family dinner in town, but later I passed by on my bike and your bedroom light was on. And today, it took four separate phone calls before you finally picked up and I managed to invite you over… I’ve been worried.”
“Maybe I’m just changing,” you protested weakly. “That’s a thing that happens. People change.”
“I agree, you have been changing. Just not for the better.” Koushi squeezed your hand again, his skin warm on your own. “I haven’t seen you smile, really smile, for ages. You’re always faking these days. What’s going on?”
“I…” you trailed off, trying to think of some excuse. The last thing you wanted was for Koushi to see what was really going on inside your head.
“The truth, (Y/N).”
You relented, shoulders sagging. “Just been tired, I guess.”
“Tired of what?”
“Tired of…” Your eyes grew moist despite your best efforts and you fought to keep from choking on the sob rising up your throat.
“Tired of…?” he pressed on, eyebrow raised.
Your next words tumbled out in a rush. “Just tired of being me, okay? It’s like… it’s just like, whenever I look in the mirror… I don’t like what I see. I don’t like myself, so I don’t want to be me anymore. I’m so tired of it. And I feel like everyone else is, too. Everyone is tired of my shit, so I thought I’d just do you all a favor and disappear.”
Your words stunned Koushi into silence. He remained resting in your lap for a few long seconds before he felt something hot and wet roll down his cheek. A tear. But not his own.
He looked up just in time for another one of your tears to land on his face, right underneath his eye. Quickly, he sat up and tenderly cupped your face in his hands, gently brushing the tears away with his thumbs. “Oh, (Y/N)... c’mere. That’s such bullshit.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” you hiccupped as he pulled you into his lap by your waist-- facing him-- and gingerly tucked your head into the crook of his neck. “I’m sorry you have to see me like this. It’s gross, I know.”
“It’s not gross,” said Koushi, fiercely hugging you to his chest. “It’s much better than watching you try to pretend like you’re fine. I don’t care if your snot gets on my shirt-- that’s a small price to pay. So long as I can be there for you right now.”
You cried harder, immense guilt racking your body at his inexplicable kindness. “I’ve been treating you terribly these past few months, but you’re still so good to me. Goddamnit, Koushi. I don’t deserve you.”
Koushi pulled you back by the shoulders, narrowed eyes searching your face, though tears continued to stream down your cheeks. “(Y/N). You don’t have to earn my love.”
“I-- love?” you asked, eyes wide. You snatched a tissue from Koushi’s bedside table and blew your nose loudly.
“Yeah,” he said firmly, without missing a beat. “I said it. I love you. And don’t ask if I mean in a friend way or a girlfriend way, because the answer is neither. I love you like you’re the person I wanna spend the rest of my life with. I don’t care if that means as, like, your husband or just as your best friend. Whatever I can get, I’m happy with, because I love you like you’re a part of me. Unconditionally. I thought you knew that.”
“Please, don’t say that,” you sobbed, covering your face with your hands. “I’m not good enough for you. I’m really not.”
Koushi pulled your hands away so he could look you in the eye. “What don't you understand about the term ‘unconditional love’? It’s unconditional. There is literally nothing you nor anyone else can say or do to change that. Unconditional love is not a feeling, it’s a choice, and I’ve made that choice. I’ve had nearly two decades to think about it, so now I’m telling you I will love you no matter what. I always have, alright? This isn’t exactly how I wanted to say it, but it’s true.”
You stared at him, disbelieving. You hadn’t known he’d felt this way. Of course, you two had been partners-in-crime your entire lives, and you couldn’t count the number of times he’d materialized at your side as soon as you were in the slightest bit of trouble. Whenever you were a dollar short at the canteen, he’d stuff a five in your hand and push you towards the front of the line. That time you went camping with his family and you forgot your sleeping bag, he’d given you his and spent the night shivering. He always carried an extra pen for you because yours often inexplicably ran out of ink in the middle of a test. He’d been there for every crush, boyfriend, and breakup, cheering you on and drying your tears when the time came. He’d been there when your pet dog died and you planned a funeral in your backyard, complete with a little cardboard headstone, holding an umbrella above your head when it began to rain but you weren’t done mourning. He’d just always been there when you needed him.
You’d tried to be there for him, too, because, as you had begun to realize, his pain was your pain and vice versa. That time when you were six and he’d lost his favorite stuffed animal (a giraffe) it had felt like you’d lost yours too. That day in junior high when he fell out of the oak tree trying to retrieve a stray frisbee and broke his arm, you swore you felt the same pain in yours. Last year when he got dumped outside the gym on Valentine’s Day and you found him sitting in a corner, trying to hide the fact he’d obviously been crying-- you’d stayed late to crack stupid jokes and eat the chocolate he meant to give to his girlfriend, because he deserved a girl who would eat the damn chocolate. Not stomp on his heart and leave it to bleed. I love you like you’re a part of me. You understood.
“It’s okay to not be okay sometimes, but it’s not okay to bundle it all up and bury it deep inside when you have someone right next to you wanting to help you bear that burden.” Koushi’s voice shook just slightly. “It just… it hurts to see you like this, okay? (Y/N), if you love me back, then let me help you. Let me be there for you. Please.”
You were silent for a moment, staring into his pleading eyes. Those beautiful brown eyes.
Then you took a deep breath and started laughing through the tears. You were sure you looked insane, puffy eyes, red nose, and mascara running down your cheeks, but it didn’t matter. “I do. I love you, too. I love you. I didn’t know I loved you before, but now I do, because if you were torn away from me that heartbreak would probably kill me. No, it would definitely kill me. And it would hurt like a motherfucker while it did.”
Koushi let out the breath he’d been holding then, after a brief pause, began to laugh with you as you laced your arms around the back of your neck. “Oh, yeah? Well, losing you would probably hurt like a father-fucker to me.”
“Is that worse than a motherfucker?” you asked, giggling at the ridiculousness of it all. Here you were, bawling on the floor of your best friend’s room while you confessed your love to one another and cussed each other out at the same time.
“For sure. It’s a million times worse than a motherfucker. It’s like, if something hurting like a motherfucker is the equivalent of getting shot by a Nerf gun, something hurting like a fatherfucker probably feels like getting run over by a tank.” Koushi intertwined his fingers with yours yet again and smiled.
“You’re a dumbass,” you said, but you laughed anyways as Koushi looked proud of himself.
“I know,” he said softly, affectionately. “But I’m your dumbass.”
You sighed and shook your head. “I’d love you to be. But you could still do so much better than me--”
“Will you stop saying that, already?” Koushi took your face in his hand, stroking his thumb right beneath your eye. “You’re the most radiant person I’ve ever met. Notice how I didn’t say ‘beautiful’ because the word beautiful doesn’t even begin to cover it. Although you are that, too.”
“Oh, goodness. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again-- you’re so sappy.”
Koushi rolled his eyes with a smile. “Yeah, I am. You like it though.”
“You caught me,” you said as he leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead. You leaned into it, savoring the warmth of his lips on your skin. “I do.”
“But really, (Y/N),” he said seriously. “It astounds me that you don’t realize that.”
“Don’t realize what?”
“That you’re cool! You’re so cool and fun and awesome. And a zillion other adjectives I could sit here and list out for hours. You’re the only person who can make me laugh when I cry, and you make the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted, and you’re a literal god at Mario Kart, and you’ve got the prettiest eyes I’ve ever had the privilege to look into.” You flushed as Koushi thought for a moment, chewing on his lip before his eyes widened. “It’s kinda like a circus mirror, I think.”
“What?” You furrowed your brow.
“The way you see yourself is like someone looking into one of those circus mirrors. It makes you look too tall, or really squished, or just bent out of shape in general. And if that was the only mirror you’d ever looked into, you’d probably think that ugly, distorted reflection is how you actually look in real life. You can’t see yourself for how amazing you really are-- but everyone else can.”
“Well, aren’t you just full of relevant analogies today?” you teased. A circus mirror. Now that was something new. You had to give Koushi credit for the comparison-- it actually did kind of make sense.
“What can I say?” he said, puffing out his chest. “I’m a poet.”
“So I guess that would make you my real mirror then?” you offered shyly. Koushi looked confused for a second. “If the way I see myself is supposedly ‘distorted,’ then you can reflect to me how I supposedly really am.”
“Oh, yes!” he said happily. “I’m the mirror. I like that. Quit talking like you don’t believe me, though. You’re incredible. A little thick-skulled sometimes, yes, but incredible nonetheless.”
“It’s going to be hard for me,” you said quietly, gently running a hand through his hair. “Really hard. I haven’t liked myself for a long time.”
“I know. I know. But someday, you’ll be able to understand what a beautiful human being you are. I’m sure of it. I need you to promise you won’t give up until that happens.”
He held out his pinky for a pinky swear, something you two did frequently as children. You smiled and laced your pinky with his. “Alright. I promise.”
“Good.” Koushi stood up, brushed the wrinkles from his pants, and offered you his hand. You took it and he pulled you up. “Listen. Do you remember this song?”
His little playlist had been playing this entire time. You hadn’t noticed. You strained to catch the lyrics. “Turn it up a little, I can’t quite hear.”
...a stereo
It beats for you, so listen close
Hear my thoughts in every note
“Koushi.” A slow smile spread across your face. “Tell me this isn’t Stereo Hearts.”
“Oh, this is Stereo Hearts alright!” he responded gleefully. He took your hand and spun you around like a ballroom dancer, catching you before you tripped over his bedside table. “You remember when we--”
“When we performed it at the junior high talent show and got booed off the stage?” You giggled, remembering that awful night that was somehow hilarious in retrospect. “I still have nightmares about that.”
Koushi continued to swing you around in some sort of clumsy dance, pulling you this way and that while you laughed wildly. “It’s ‘cause you were such a shit singer.”
You gasped in mock offense. “No way! You’re a much worse singer than I am. At least I can carry a tune.”
Koushi just rolled his eyes and grabbed a hairbrush from his shelf, using it like a microphone. He sat you down on the edge of the bed and began to serenade you in his terrible, tone-deaf manner.
Make me your radio
Turn me up when you feel low
This melody was meant for you
Just sing along to my stereo
“God, you really do suck at this,” you said, but he just smiled and kept singing. You had to admit, it was sweet. As silly as the memory associated with the song was, it remained a nostalgic favorite even now. You had to join in a few times, just for memory’s sake.
I only pray you never leave me behind
Because good music can be so hard to find
Koushi sat down next to you and wound one arm around your waist, leaning close.
I take your hand and pull it closer to mine
Thought love was dead, but now you're changing my mind
You turned and leaned in too, nearly touching noses.
“Hey,” he said in an almost whisper. “(Y/N) (L/N), I love you.”
“Hey,” you whispered back, gaze flitting down to his lips and back up again. “I love you, too, you sappy bastard.”
...so sing along to my stereo
“I know.” He closed the remaining inch of distance. Your hand tangled itself in his hair while his tugged your body a little closer.
The kiss was almost as good as the one in Uchimura’s closet all those years ago. Almost.

Every time Jack walks by, he leaves a kiss on a different part of Alex’s face. It started out cute, but Alex is growing suspicious.
The next time he does it, passing with a can of LaCroix in hand and bending down to kiss Alex’s temple, Alex grabs his arm. “Okay, what are you plotting?”
Jack makes an offended noise. “I’m not plotting anything! Can’t I kiss my boyfriend?”
“Well, can you do it like you mean it? Instead of just being all, like, too-casual about it?”
“I don’t want to distract you from your writing,” Jack says haughtily, and Alex gets it immediately.
“You so do,” he accuses. “You’re trying to distract me.”
“Never!”
“Game’s up, Barakat, I’ve got your number. What do you want?”
Jack pouts and drops down on the couch next to Alex, setting his drink on the coffee table. “What do I want? I just want to hang out with you.”
“We can hang out,” Alex says, and Jack shakes his head.
“You’re writing, I don’t want to pull you from it. I know you get in this, like, headspace.”
“I’d rather spend time with you,” Alex says, and he means it. Between songwriting by himself and spending even a minute with Jack, it’s not a competition. “I can write later.”
“We can hang out later.”
“Why are you arguing against yourself, babe? I already said we can spend some time together.”
Again, Jack shakes his head. “Nope. I don’t want it like this. I’ll just feel guilty. Finish writing what you’re writing, and then we can do something.”
Alex sighs. “Well — stay here, then.” Jack makes a confused face. “I mean, you don’t have to talk to me, if you really want me to finish this, but I like having you around.”
Jack looks dubious, so Alex rolls his eyes. “Jack, what the fuck do you think I’m writing about? Sitting and songwriting alone?”
Jack grabs his songwriting notebook, and Alex lets him. Jack’s the only person who can do shit like that, but he knows that, and capitalizes on it. After a moment of skimming, his face softens. “Aw, this is about yesterday.”
“Yeah,” Alex says. “No, I mean. It’s about you. It’s always about you, all the shitty cheesy sappy stuff, it’s you.” He clears his throat; his voice has grown embarrassingly fond. “And if you don’t stick around I’ll have nothing good to write about. Everything will be awful.”
“Oh, it’s not already?” Jack deadpans. Alex snatches his notebook back and whacks him with it. “Joking! Fuck you, that was a joke! Hey, Alex.” Alex raises his eyebrows. Jack looks him in the eye. “I love you. You know that I love you, right?”
It’s stupid that Alex feels giddy whenever he hears it, each time as if it’s the first, but it gets him no matter how often Jack tells him. “I know,” he confirms. “I love you too.”
“Good,” Jack says, seemingly satisfied with that. He leans back on the couch, and after a moment Alex leans back too, leaning into Jack. He loves that they fit like this. Jack kisses the top of his head. “Now I feel bad. You were on a roll if those lyrics were anything to go by.”
“Nah, they were pretty bad,” Alex says. “I don’t know how to write like I’m not stupidly in love, but it would make a pretty boring album if every song was just ‘Jack, you’re the love of my life, the only one for me.’”
Jack is quiet for a moment. Then he says, “Is — do you really feel that way?”
That’s a dumb question, in Alex’s opinion. Jack has read the lyrics; Jack’s heard most of the romantic shit Alex comes up with. “Of course I do,” Alex says, pulling a perplexed face even though he knows Jack can’t see his expression. “You must know that.”
“I don’t know,” Jack says. Alex can hear the vibrations from his voice, where Jack’s mouth is pressed against Alex’s hair. “I kind of knew, but you’ve never said to me.”
“I haven’t?”
“Not until right now.”
“Oh,” Alex says. He feels sure he must have said it at some point, but racking his brain he can’t come up with when. “Well, it’s true.” He’s tempted to say, don’t you? But he doesn’t want to bait Jack. If that’s how Jack feels, he’ll say it when he’s ready.
“Oh,” Jack says faintly. He breathes a laugh that doesn’t sound humorous so much as hysterical. “Well, Jesus fuck, Alex. You’re the only one for me too.”
It settles something stirring in Alex’s gut. He’s going to love Jack whether or not Jack loves him back, and even if Jack went and found someone else Alex thinks he couldn’t ever not love Jack, doesn’t even know how to at this point; loving Jack is ingrained in him, as natural as breathing, and Alex can’t fathom ever finding anyone else who fills him up the way Jack does, over and over again, every day. Of course Jack’s the only one for him. It’s just nice to know it goes both ways.
“Well, good,” is what he says. It feels like they’ve just decided something bigger than just the words that have been said. Alex wonders if he should ask Jack to marry him. Maybe another day. “The song can wait, Jack. I’m not gonna love you less if I wait on it.”
Jack chuckles. “Okay. If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure.”
“Cut the line about me tripping on my feet, though, please. That’s just embarrassing.”
“That’s the best part!”
“My scraped knee would disagree with you, asshole.”
“Well, your scraped knee isn’t writing the song.”
Alex feels Jack’s rumbling laugh through his back, where it meets Jack’s chest, and he grins. Jack says, “I wish I could write songs. I’d romance the fuck out of you.”
“Ah, it’s not about the song, though, you know?” Alex says. “It’s about the intention. And —” He leans forward so he can turn to look at Jack, and adoration swells in his chest, so much he thinks he could break from the ferocity. “I know you love me. Hearing you say it is music to my ears.”
“God, you’re such a fucking sap,” Jack murmurs, before pulling Alex into a kiss. Alex smiles into it. He is a sap, and a romantic, and he could and would and probably will wax poetic about Jack until the cows come home. But Jack loves him, too, and that’s all that Alex really needs.

It was a normal winter evening in Seoul, cold air violently traveling throughout the city. Chan and Felix went out shopping, they had to go because they were running out of necessary things like bread, milk and all that stuff. The short trip to the grocery store down the street of their condo building was accompanied by the cutting sharp cold wind.
Shivering, Felix felt his hands clutching the grocery bags through the little pink fluffy mittens. He was wrapped up in at least three layers of clothing, mittens, a big scarf that covered his mouth and nose and wool beanie. Chan was walking besides him holding his left hand. He could feel his freezing hand through his mittens, Felix remembers telling Chan to wear some of his mittens but Chan was quick to deny it saying that his hands were going to deform the cute mittens.
'Chan, aren't you cold?' Felix asked, raising his head, Chan could only see his beautiful eyes and he started smiling at his lover's cuteness.
'Yea, it's freezing outside, but we're here.' Pulling out the condo keys, scanning the little keycard that allows access to the condo building they finally step inside. Going to the escalator quickly. Felix presses the buttons so they could get as fast as possible in their apartment. Finally hearing that little ding from the escalator, the door opens and they start running down the hall. The sounds of laughter, rushed footsteps and key jiggling alongside with the rustling of their totter bags that hosted the fairly large capacity of the products that they had bought was heard in the large hallway. Chan was fiddling with the keys trying to unlock the door as fast as he can while Felix stopped running, gasping for air. After 5 seconds the door of their apartment was unlocked, warmth trying to escape through the door but Felix and Chan were fast inside closing the door with the keys behind them.
Both of them slid off their shoes, put the bags full of groceries in the kitchen and started to undress. Chan went to the thermostat, setting the heat up with a few degrees higher.
'Channie, can you put away the groceries while I start the bath?' Felix said, as he began to say place the products from the totter bags on the big kitchen island. Chan peeked his head from the laundry room, nodding as he made his way besides Felix.
'Do you want to take a bath?' Chan asked as he opened the cabinets, arranging the products.
'Yeah, it was so cold outside, I was freezing the entire time. You should've worn warmer clothes, Chan.' Felix said sighing and hugging the older. Chan sneaked his hands under Felix's warm sweater, touching his bare back. Felix shivered when Chan's hands made contact but he melted into the older's touch. Sliding his little hands to rest on Chan's abs, the older only gave him a chuckle.
'Want to bathe together, hmm, sweetheart?' Chan asks as he nozzles his nose into Felix's neck slowly pecking it and sucking on it. Felix let out a soft moan as he nodded slowly looking into Chan's eyes.
'Alright, you can go turn on the bath and I place everything then. Go before I can't stop myself.' Slowly nodding and chuckling Felix made his way to their bedroom bathroom. He started to fill up the big bath with really warm water, adding some bubbles and essential oils. After five minutes of waiting, Felix stopped the water and went into the kitchen. Chan was reading something on his phone as always because he was a huge fan of reading, one of his favourite hobbies actually, and that can be seen throughout the big shelfs full of books that were placed all around the house. Felix slowly made his way around the kitchen sneaking behind Chan as he started kissing his neck.
'The bath is ready, come and join me.' He says with a low voice near Chan's ear.
'Romantic aren't we?' Chan said laughing and turning around and picking Felix up by his butt. The younger wrapping his legs around Chan's torso while putting his hands around the older's neck. Walking to their bathroom, giving his lips a few pecks, Chan put down Felix and started undressing the both of them. Clothes were everywhere but on their body.
'After you.' Chan said as he looked at Felix's bare beautiful body. Felix slowly sinks into the warm water and Chan goes right after him. Putting his hands on Felix's shoulders, slowly massaging them, working on the tight knots, kissing down the honeyed skin and sucking small hickeys on it. Moans echoed through the bathroom, fingers tracing each other's skin, Chan dipped his long digits on Felix's collarbone, creating an incoherent pattern, a hand pinching his nipple turning into a burning pink.
'Can I wash your hair, baby?' Chan asked, slowly kissing and nibbling his earlobe.
'Yes, please.' Felix said in a short breath not being able to contain his moans.
Gentle fingers massaged his scalp, bubbles forming as the scent of the shampoo was getting stronger. Chan rinsed Felix's hair and then he leaned in to kiss his cheek.
'You're cute, you know that?' Felix only giggled, bringing a hand on the others cheek to kiss him on the lips. As they both deepened the kiss. They both washed themselves after a heavy make out session. When Felix stepped out of the bathtub to wrap a towel around himself there was suddenly a sound. Chan was quick to step out the bathtub and wrap a towel around his waist. The light in the bathroom went out, leaving the two boys surprised.
'I think there is a power outage, do you want to light up some candles?'
Felix quickly nodded, wrapping his arms around the older and pressing his face in his chest.
Chan just stood there and admired his lover. Dripping water coming from his wet locks, his collarbone so prominent and the younger's honeyed skin looked so inviting, making Chan feel like it's a blank canvas ready to be painted, in this case with marks.
Chan began playing with Felix's wet locks, combing his way through it.
'Where are we placing the candles?' The younger said looking up with such innocent eyes. His freckles had never ever looked so beautiful then they did in that moment, his eyes never shined so brightly, stars could be clearly seen in them.
His whole face was Chan's universe, from the constellation of freckles to the stars in his eyes.
Chan sure was a lucky man.
'Is there something on my face?' Felix said clearly confused, bringing a hand to wipe his cheek.
'Yea, Chan whispered, my universe' he began snickering.
'Oh my god, you're so embarrassing' Felix said through laughter, slowly hitting Chan's chest.
'I'm this sappy for you only' (such a sappy sappy boy, stan Red Velvet) Chan said while smiling down at Felix.
'Let's go change please, I can listen to your pick up lines in the dressing room too.' The younger stayed turning on his heel and heading towards their bedroom. Chan just followed behind like a big puppy.
'Do you think I'll catch a cold if my hair is wet? I don't want to risk it, you know how I get when I'm sick.' Felix said with a sigh.
'I mean I can dry your hair with a towel so it's not that wet, but I'm worried about the temperature in the house too, the heating system works if it's plugged in and there's no electricity so I think it's going to be a cold night in the apartment too.'
'So much for having a peaceful Friday.' Felix looks down as he puts on one of Chan's sweatshirts.
'It's ok, don't worry, I'll dry your hair and then we'll set up the candles. I got some pastries too this morning so we're all good.'
'Thank you, Chan, you know I love you?' Felix said making his way towards his lover.
'I know that, bub, I love you too' putting their foreheads together, Chan lightly pecked Felix's lips, but the younger seemed to seek for more so he kissed Chan this time slipping his tongue in the older's mouth.
'Slow down, Lix, let's get you all dry and after the power is back we can do whatever you want, how does that sound?' Chan leaned closer to kiss Felix's nose and freckled cheeks.
'Okay, whatever you say.' rolling his eyes, Felix made himself smaller and hugged Chan.
The older felt like he could melt whenever Felix hugged him, so he wrapped his arms around his lover and took a deep breath.
'I love you ,Chan, so much'
'I love you too, Lix, you make me so happy you can't imagine.' Receiving another peck, Chan was caught off guard and started blushing.
'Awww is Channie blushing? Let me kiss it away.' Felix began giggling while kissing the older's face.
'Ok ok Felix let's get you dry now' Chan said, while laughing.
'Ok, but after we cuddle, right?' looking sternly at the older with a finger pointed towards him, Felix pouted.
'Yes, sweetheart, now let's get you dry'
After drying both of their hair, the two made their way to the fairly large living room.
Getting a pack of candles from the cupboard, Felix set them down on the counter and the little coffee table and lighted them up.
The scene was breathtaking. The soft flames of the candles illuminating the beige living room alongside the white kitchen, the sound of their record player playing Hold On by The Internet (I love that song so much), the smell of bergamot traveling through the whole apartment. It was a dream come true.
It was their euphoria.
Taking Felix by surprise, Chan slipped his hands on the younger's waist pulling him towards his chest.
'Shall we dance, angel?' Chan said, stating in Felix's eyes. Taken aback by the sudden movement, the younger blushed, keeping his gaze down and then laying his head on Chan's chest mumbling a small 'yes'.
'Is someone flustered?' Chan said while snickering. Felix just pushed himself more into the older's chest giggling. Chan was hugging Felix while swaying from side to side softly singing along the lyrics.
And as long as you're with me
I'm definitely
Yours for the takin'
Don't be mistakin'
And as long as you're wit' it
I'll be committed to you
Stopping for a moment, Chan cupped Felix's face and stared at him before continuing signing.
You got me on a cloud nine, baby
Feels almost like a dream
Finishing up with a kiss the younger just looked at his lover in awe.

SpeedingBullet but make scout completely oblivious for way too long
“so we both have buckets of fried chicken, you wanna do it?” ass bitch over here can’t even spell subtlety let alone understand it so good fuckin luck with that crush sniper
-
Scout’s pickup lines generally consisted of walking up to someone attractive, looking around to make sure they were alone enough to not be overheard, and asking them if they either wanted to go out or wanted to have sex depending on his mood.
So Sniper was pretty sure that wooing Scout wasn’t exactly necessary, but Sniper also generally tried to hold himself to a standard regardless of “necessity”. So he decided to go about it the right way anyways.
One day when he was hanging out in the base for once, Scout ducked into the common room and asked if anyone wanted to go with him to get something “real” to eat. Sniper volunteered. That started a weekly routine of them going off-base every Saturday to get tacos together at the nearest place that sold them, half an hour away.
For Scout’s birthday, Sniper got him a present—a record player, so he wouldn’t constantly need to argue with Heavy and Demo about whose turn it was to play music in the common room. One week, Scout got the flu, and Medic basically quarantined him off so he wouldn’t spread it to the rest of the team. Sniper spent an afternoon digging up the recipe for soup that he had from back home, making enough that Scout wouldn’t need to cook anything for himself for the next week or so until he was allowed at team dinners again, bringing the first serving of it to him and hanging out with the kid even though he knew he might get sick, and on Saturday he specifically called in a favor with Pyro and had them cook tacos so he could bring them by. The team went out drinking one weekend, and he and Scout sat together practically the whole night. When most of the team decided to finally head out, Sniper waved them off and offered to drive himself and Scout back later, promising not to drink too much. Scout expressed an interest in getting up and dancing when one of his favorite songs came up on the radio, and somehow Sniper roped himself into dancing with Scout for long enough that the next morning his legs were sore.
Scout didn’t seem to think anything of it. He stepped up his game.
He asked Scout if he wanted to go out and get coffee at some point. Scout told him he didn’t like coffee, it messed with his stomach, and that energy drinks were totally where it’s at. He asked if Scout wanted to get dinner. Scout agreed that wow it really had gotten late, it was dinner time already, they better hurry up before the rest of the team inhaled the meal.
He asked if Scout wanted to go on a date.
Scout said, man, like you wouldn’t believe! But lately whenever he hit on people they didn’t seem to ever catch on. He asked Sniper if he knew what that was like.
Sniper said, yes. He knew that feeling intimately.
He got tired of it. It had been nearly five months of subtle hints, gentle pushes, pointed questions. A whole five months of light flirting, compliments, Sniper paying for their food and Sniper carving out all of his free time and Sniper constantly, constantly setting himself up and never finding any payoff for it. It was the worst kind of edging.
And yes, he very much wanted to just hop into bed with Scout. But he also very much wanted to date Scout, it would seem. Yes he wanted to situate his body between Scout‘s heavily muscled thighs and drive him absolutely insane. But also he wanted to kiss Scout hello in the morning.
He’d gotten sappy. God damn it. Now it would hurt a lot worse if Scout rejected him. But he couldn’t find it in himself to even be scared of that, because he’d been on an almost seven month dry spell by then, not wanting to be so much of an asshole to go for several people at once without their knowledge, so he was mostly just concerned with getting a yes or no answer so he could move forward in one direction or another.
It was Valentine’s Day. It was after work. He showered, unpacked his nice suit that he sometimes used when he had to go out on contract, bought a bouquet, and marched himself directly through the base to Scout’s room and hammered his fist on the door.
Scout opened the door.
“Do you, Scout,” Sniper asked, “want to go out on a date, romantically, with me, Sniper, tonight on this Valentine’s Day? Please?”
Silence for two seconds. “Oh, fuck. That was flirting, wasn’t it?” Scout asked, apparently coming to a series of realizations.
“Yes. It was. For about five months for what it’s worth.”
“Since we started Taco Days?” Scout asked, eyes widening.
“Since a bit before, yes.”
“Oh god. Oh fuck. Shit, I’m so sorry.”
Sniper felt his heart sink, some of the determination seeping out of his shoulders. “Is that a no?” he asked, a bit less firmly now.
“No, yes, I—no it’s not a no, yes I wanna date you,” Scout clarified quickly. “Uh. Fuck. Shit. Where?”
“Anywhere,” Sniper shrugged. “But the taco place is open. They have a special for couples tonight.”
“You wanna be couples?” Scout asked, a little surprised.
“Ideally.”
Scout thought about it for a second. “I mean, yeah, sure! Okay! Or, I dunno, first date and then if it goes well—shit, Taco Day has been a date hasn’t it? Uh. First romantic date—not that it’s not romantic—“
“Look, it’s already almost six and they’re closing at ten,” Sniper cut in.
“Yeah, I’ll get changed,” Scout agreed quickly, moving to shut the door before catching himself and taking the flowers first, clearly shocked by the entirety of the proceedings. “Fuck. I’m real fuckin’ stupid, huh Snipes?”
“You’re lucky it’s cute,” Sniper deadpanned. “Meet me outside in twenty?”
“Thirty, I gotta shower,” Scout replied, dragging a hand up through his hair self-consciously. “But yeah. Yeah, I’ll see you there.”
“Yeah,” Sniper nodded.
-
The date went fine. The drive over was weirdly quiet, and Scout fidgeted with the radio a lot more, drummed his fingers against his own leg, the same way he sometimes did before confessing that something was bothering him—nerves about the new niece he had on the way, or annoyance about some bullshit that one of the team had said to him, or guilt about some prank gone awry that he hadn’t confessed to. But he didn’t speak, just fiddling, drumming.
Then tacos were basically business as usual. Scout made a joke about what dummies they were, eating tacos in suits, how they were for sure gonna end up with sauce on their nice white shirts, and Sniper laughed, and they didn’t.
Halfway through, Scout started asking questions.
“So dudes, huh? That why you’d never say anything when I started goin’ off about some girl?”
“And jealously, but yeah, that too,” Sniper admitted. He was glad he’d elected to keep his shades on. They helped hide the fact that he was bad at eye contact at the best of times.
“I kinda thought it was because you had a girlfriend or a wife off somewhere that you never wanted to talk about, like how Spy’s a prick about that stuff. I mean, you don’t, right? Have a girl somewhere?”
“No. And not a bloke either, for what it’s worth,” Sniper replied.
“Okay. Cool. Good.” Scout fidgeted with a napkin, took a drink of water. “I mean, didn’t think you’re the type for that anyways, but… yeah.”
Sniper took a drink of his own water. Silence for a moment.
“And you kinda wanna just—you wanna do boyfriend stuff? With me?” Scout asked, confused, as if some part of the proceedings didn’t make sense to him.
“Feels a bit like I already do,” Sniper pointed out.
“I mean, not all the boyfriend stuff,” Scout mumbled, eyes back on his napkin. “I dunno. Maybe it’ll be nice though.”
“What sorts of “boyfriend stuff” have I missed so far that you’d like to see more of?” Sniper asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Like, talkin’ about yourself more. You’re like, practically my therapist.”
“The complaining to me, you mean?”
“Yeah. And you barely ever complain back. Unless you’re agreeing with me that Spy’s a prick.” Scout looked up, baby blues trying to meet his eyes through his glasses. “I wanna hear more about you.”
Sniper couldn’t help but smile a little at that. “Alright. I can try. Besides that?”
Scout looked away, face going a bit red as the silence progressed. He glanced around their vicinity for a second, barely managing to meet Sniper’s gaze before he had to break it again. “C’mon man, you’re gonna make me say it?” he said quietly.
“Five months.”
“Fine, sheesh, I…” He ducked his head a little. “Maybe… kissing and all that crap.”
Sniper raised an eyebrow at him. Scout scowled when he glanced up and saw it.
“Look, I ain’t ever done this with a guy before, alright?” he said defensively, and he’d sunk pretty far by then down into his seat. “I dunno what the hell I’m doin’.”
“We can take it slow if you want,” Sniper suggested, feeling a little bad.
“I didn’t say that, I’m just tellin’ you I’m gonna be a total idiot,” Scout muttered.
“Oh? What all would you like to jump right into then?”
“I’m not sayin’ it in public, that’s all I’m gonna tell you,” Scout said stubbornly, and Sniper laughed, and allowed him to change the subject to something else.
Scout paid the tab, saying it was his turn anyways, As usual, Sniper drove them to the taco place and Scout was the one to drive them back. Conversation was limited, both of them relaxed and satisfied.
Scout surprised him by pulling off the route they took back to instead park them at one of those roadside tourist-y areas where people could stop and stretch their legs on road trips and take photos and read a plaque. It was empty, of course it was, and the second Scout had the car in park and the keys out of it, dropped onto the dashboard, he promptly jumped the gearshift and landed himself in Sniper’s lap.
“Okay,” Scout opened with. “So here’s the thing.”
“Right?” Sniper replied hesitantly, hands on Scout’s waist, glancing him up and down.
“So like, me about guys, that’s usually secondary to the girls thing. Because girls are great. Usually it’s only really hot guys who I’d go for. And I guess I kinda more thought about you as a coworker mostly for a long time, right? Because you were. But then, I dunno, at some point I guess it clicked a little, right? That you’re hot.”
Sniper grinned. “Yeah? What is it, which part?” he asked.
“Stubble’s a big one,” Scout admitted. “And you know how to handle your gun crazy well, and can totally fuck a guy up with your knife. It’s real hot. And you’ve got these shoulders, and like… a lot of things basically,” Scout concluded, hands finding the shoulders in question. “And just, man. You look fuckin’ good in a suit. And I just wanna… I don’t even know what. I wanna do somethin’ to you.”
“Kissing’ as good start,” Sniper suggested, and Scout needed no further prompting, leaning in and spending exactly five seconds kissing Sniper like a good Christian boy before he promptly got filthy with it, pulling tricks with his tongue that made Sniper groan.
He broke away again, breathless. “Hate to take this off since you like it so much,” he admitted, tugging at his own tie pointedly.
“Well I fuckin’ know I wanna do that to you,” Scout said, and started working Sniper’s suit jacket off of him.
Scout mostly moved to toss the components of Sniper’s suit into the back seat carelessly, stripping him to his undershirt before he helped Sniper get off his own dress shirt. He managed to get his own pants undone before he apparently got impatient, nipping at Sniper’s freshly exposed collarbones with those rabbitish teeth of his, making Sniper’s hands fumble where he was at work on his own belt.
“Have an idea enough about how this works to know how you’d like to do this?” Sniper asked, a rumble into his ear that made Scout shiver.
“I dunno, just touch my dick, fuck,” Scout said impatiently, and got back to work marking up Sniper’s neck like he was getting paid, starting to grind down into him. Sniper was distantly aware of the fact that the windows were starting to fog.
The fact that he suddenly realized he didn’t actually have any lube or condoms on him, having assumed they’d get back at least to base before they started making out like horny teenagers, meant that their options were limited, but Sniper wasn’t that worried about it. He just got to work trying to worm Scout’s pants down his thighs, working with the rhythm of rolls that he’d established. He got a bit impatient, grabbing around the back of Scout’s thighs with both hands to lift him up enough to work his own pants down past his knees before letting him back down again, a moan startled out of him as Scout promptly grinded against him, making a similar noise.
“Hold on,” Sniper grunted, stopping Scout with a hand on his hip, raising the other to his own face to spit in it once, twice, before lowering it to slick both Scout and himself, and then he was wrapping a hand around them both as best he could and starting to jerk.
Scout’s reaction was immediate, starting to roll his hips into the wet, slick grip, eyelashes fluttering and mouth falling open around gasps, the first silent and every one after that satisfied.
“C’mon,” Sniper prompted, nosing in just below his chin and kissing his throat briefly. “Help me out with this. Get your hand wet—yeah, there you go—now c’mon, right here. Good. God, yeah, like that. There’s a beauty.”
Scout used his free hand to wrap around Sniper’s shoulder to pull him close, mashing their lips together gracelessly but enthusiastically. Sniper’s free hand moved at first to grip at Scout’s ass, satisfied at the fact that he could now do so, then eventually to toy with Scout’s chest, pinching at one nipple and then the other, wringing all sorts of noises from Scout’s mouth and into his own and enjoying every second of it.
He felt Scout getting close quicker than he did, and tried to make up for the distance by starting to also roll his hips up into his fist, a steady roll that made him groan and pinch harder, grip just slightly tighter. He was distantly aware of the fog that clung to the windows, of the sweat on his own forehead and Scout’s chest beneath his hand, of the squeak of the car’s suspension as they rocked it, but mostly he just focused on the mounting pleasure.
Scout keened against his mouth, gasping damply against him as he stalled out, hips jerking and struggling. He opened his eyes, and the flush on his face, the redness of his lips wound wide around further noises of pleasure, the final gasp of “Fuck, Snipes,” that Scout managed to whimper, the feeling of Scout’s hand shifting to simply hold on to him instead of both of them, it had him finishing within a few strokes, his own noise much quieter.
In a few minutes, they’d start laughing at the cliche of fucking in a car, start struggling to clean up and get to their own clothes, start talking about how next time Sniper would show him how real fucking worked, about how they’d flip a coin to pick who’d be on top the first time.
Until then, they kissed, and at least in the afterglow, Sniper figured the five months were worth it. Just barely.

Band of Toziers - 4/?- ao3
Pairings: Reddie, Storis, Byler
Words: 14.5k
Preview:
- The Losers come over as soon as Eddie send them a text, with a 'Code WTF?!' - The Party drive up to Derry to meet Richie after Mike sends them all a text Just a sappy chapter on Mike, Boris and Richie meeting the Party and Losers Club.
We're now getting some Reddie, Storis and Byler stuff now ❤
Notes:
Because there are two Mikes, I'm calling Mike Wheeler 'Mike' and Mike Hanlon 'Michael', when the two are in the same place. If I get lazy or lose track, I may refer to both by their surnames just to lessen the confusion.
This does jump from boy to boy, so I'm sorry but it should get better. I've never done this sort of thing before.
An hour after Eddie had sent a 'Code WTF' (Unique situation - changes per person), Bev rushes over. She doesn't bother with the front door and jumps in through Richie's bedroom window.
"Uhhh, did you make a clone machine?" Bev asks as soon as she picks herself off the floor. She eyeballs the three Richie's in the room, noting the subtle differences between the 3 and picks out her Richie, the only one with the bad eyesight. The other two look like weird variations of Richie's personalities.
Happy Richie:
Okay, now she's reaching, but that's just the vibe he gives her.
Emo Richie:
Fall Out Boy,
My Chemical Romance, and
Panic! at the Disco.
maybe industrial
maybe a plug
double lobe
Bev's reaching, but she wants to have fun before they come by and trash her judgement.
"Hi I'm Michael, but you can call me Mike," the one dressed in bright colours says, holding out his hand towards the young redhead.
"Hi, Mike," Bev replies.
"I'm Boris," the emo looking Richie says.
"Hi, I'm Beverly, but please call me Bev," she replies. Her strong demeanour falters into shyness. Nothing about this is okay. Why hadn’t Richie told any of them about his family?
”So, uh, I’ll explain when the others get here,” Richie says.
As they all wait for the rest of the Losers to arrive, the 5 of them sit in absolute silence. Bev is confused, watching as the three Toziers interacted with each other just by eye glances. She noted a heap of similarities in their demeanours. "Weird right?" Eddie asks.
"Yeah, and here I thought one Richie was enough," Bev replies.
Richie's bedroom door swings open and in walks the rest of the Losers Club. "SUP FUCKERS?!" Bill screams as he enters, then he sees the 3 Toziers sitting around Richie's desk. "Oh shit!" Stan, Ben and Mike spot the 3 Toziers in the room. Completely disregarding Eddie and Bev who are chilling by the window.
"Richard, did you finally make that cloning machine? The one you've been talking about?" Stan asks.
"Nope," Richie replies. "This is my twin brother, Mike." He gestures to the identical twin in the bright clothing, "and this is our cousin, Boris."
As Boris looks at the rest of the Losers, he locks eyes with a blonde-haired boy. He smiles slightly, at him, and the boy smiles back.
Now was Richie's introduction of the Losers, all groaning in dread
"Guys, this is Big Bill, our ring leader. If he jumped off a cliff, he'd expect us all to follow," Richie says as he hugs the leader.
"This is Haystack, he's a gifted poet. It got him a girl that's way outta his league," Richie points to Bev and tussles Ben's hair.
"This is Mike Meyers, you know, that dude from Austin Powers. Mike's our nerd, he lives in the library."
"Finally, we have Staniel or Stanley Urine, either one works. He likes watching birds, at first I thought he liked watching girls but I found out he meant the actual animals. So I promise, he's not a creepoid."
Mike and Boris laugh simultaneously.
"Ignore him," Stan says. "I'm Stanley Uris, that's Mike Hanlon, Ben Hanscom and Bill Denbrough." Stan throws a quick smile to Boris before looking away, blushing.
Beverly catches it in her peripheral vision. Stan's demeanour changed as soon as he saw Boris. "Eddie, do you know if Stan had a crush on Richie at some point?" Bev asks the hypochondriac. Eddie feels a pinch of jealousy running through his veins but still thinks upon it. He wasn't subtle with his feelings, but if Stan did have a crush on Richie, it would've been subtle. The hypochondriac tries to get into Stan's mind but comes up blank.
"I don't think so, why?" Eddie responds.
"I swear I just saw Stan blush."
Eddie sits upright and looks directly at Stan. He tries to hide his jealousy, and takes his time before saying, "Richie?"
Bev shakes her head, "Boris."
Eddie wants to laugh, that can't be right. Stan is emotionless and often talks about dying or birds. So, it can't be true, that Stan blushed, Bev must've been seeing things. But then he sees it for himself, Stan is laughing with Boris, his cheeks are bright red but he doesn't even care. He elbows Bev and gestures to Stan, she smirks, then turns back to Eddie. "So, what about you and the Trashmouth? Told him yet?"
"No," Eddie lies through gritted teeth. He has to talk to Richie about it first before they tell the Losers.
*
"So, Mike, you seeing anyone?" Ben asks Richie's twin.
"Yeah, my best friend, Will Byers," Mike replies.
"Gee Rich, step up your game and ask out Eddie," Bill says.
"I thought that - " Mike sees Richie shaking his head; he doesn't continue.
Much like Eddie, Richie wants to wait until he has spoken to his hypochondriac boyfriend.
Richie listens in on Mike, learning about his group of friends. Like Richie's group, they have a name for themselves. Instead of the 'Losers Club', Mike's group calls themselves the Party.
There's a shit ton of similarities between the two groups that Richie realises as Mike explains. The Party sit in Mike's basement playing Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and the Losers Club sit in an underground bunker (clubhouse) doing god knows what, mostly drinking and playing 'truth or dare' or 'never have I ever'.
Then as Mike starts explaining his friends, Richie quickly learns that Mike's their ring leader like Bill's the Losers Club's leader.
Will sounds a bit like Eddie;
Dustin = Richie;
Lucas = Stan;
Jane = Ben;
Maxine 'Max' = Bev; and
Steve = Mike.
Richie got all of that just by Mike's descriptions of his friends. It amazes Richie, sometimes, how fast his mind works. Maybe it also has something to do with his undiagnosed ADHD.
"Anyone want anything to drink?" Richie asks, they all said 'yes'. "Eds, can you help me?"
"How many times, Richard? Don't call me 'Eds'!" Eddie responds and gets up, following his tall boyfriend down the stairs.
*
"Hey, Boris, can I talk to you for a second?" Beverly asks the 'emo-looking' Richie.
"Yeah, okay," Boris replies, he gets up from his seat on the desk and sits on the window sill, beside Bev.
"Do you like Stan?" It catches Boris off guard, it stammers a little. "It's just, he's been blushing like mad and he never really does that." Boris looks towards the blonde-haired boy for the umpteenth time today.
There are several things that Boris notices about the bird expert. The way he stands when talking to people; perfect posture. His hand gestures as he speaks. Boris is not one to believe in 'love at first sight' but he thinks that he can let this one slide. There's just something different about Stanley compared to Theo. He started to like Theo a few months after they started to hang out, maybe it was the drugs or the alcohol but he's been sober for 48 hours now. He hasn't had a craving for weed, coke or alcohol since he laid his eyes on the blonde-haired boy.
Beverly nudges Boris, "you're staring," she states. "I can hook you two up if you want?"
"No thank you, Beverly. I need to get to know Kolibri first," Boris says.
"'Kolibri'?"
"It means Hummingbird in Russian." Boris removes himself and goes back to join Mike and the others.
Bev just lets it sink in, 'Hummingbird'. Why did he call Stan a Hummingbird?
He did make Stan laugh before; it makes sense. Maybe.
Stan looks over to Bev, she quickly signals over. He mutters a quick 'sorry' to Mike, and pads over to Bev. "You called?" Stan says.
"Do you like Boris?" Bev asks, cutting to the chase, she's not in the mood for that airy-fairy bullshit.
"No, maybe, yes? I don't know," Stan sighs.
He too isn't one to believe in 'love at first sight', he finds it bullshit. But he couldn't explain his feelings about Boris any other way.
"He called you a hummingbird, in Russian."
"It's the way I laugh, it sounds like I'm humming." Stan smiles and blushes. Beverly had only ever seen one person do that, and that was Eddie whenever he spoke about Richie. With Eddie, it was a sign of embarrassment and shame because of the bullshit lies Sonia fed him. But Stan? Stan's is because he's shy, he's opening up to Beverly about something that he would normally go to Richie for. Richie would make a joke, to break the tension, but would 100% support him.
"Is it weird? He looks so much like Richie, I need to talk to him." Stan gets up and goes downstairs to where Richie and Eddie are pouring everyone a drink.
*
"Richie, Eddie, can I talk to you both ab - " Stan cuts himself off as he walks in on Richie and Eddie kissing. "Never mind." He does a 180 and heads back to the stairs.
"Wait!" Richie calls, "We'll explain just tell us what you wanted, please."
"Okay, I'll go first," Stan says, he sighs, "I may have developed some sort of crush on your cousin." Eddie's jaw drops; he didn't misread Stan. Richie smiles, which freaks Stanley out. "Why are you smiling?"
"Because it's cute!" Richie exclaims.
"But he looks like you! I just don't think - "
"You worried you'd get feelings for me or something?"
Stan pauses for a bit and looks at the ground. "I don't know, maybe. You both look alike, he's basically like you. So's Mike."
"Stan, look at me." Stan moves his head up and meets Richie's eyes. "Look me dead in the eyes and tell me that you only see me as a friend."
Stan looks to Eddie, who's still got his lips parted. The blonde boy smiles momentarily at Eddie, then looks back to Richie. He searches Richie's face, looking at the similarities between Boris and him; physically. Okay, so Richie's kinda hot, Stan thinks, but as he gets to the personality, Boris is more chill and conventional. He isn't spontaneous like Richie is.
Richie is bothersome, his jokes are appalling and not to mention his flirting with Eddie. Considering what Stan just saw in the kitchen, he's hoping that Richie will be less vexatious. But then again, even before Eddie, Richie was annoying. Who knew a 5-year-old could be that irritating? Also, he's astonishingly intelligent, barely has to study for anything and will still pass with flying colours (it'll be interesting to see what he'll be like at college). Stan's spent too much time with the trashmouth that he's not fully attracted to him, besides his looks. But that's because Boris, who looks a lot like Richie, opened a floodgate.
"I like you as a friend," Stan says, staring at Richie.
"Also, Stan, please don't say anything to the others about Rich and me, please," Eddie says.
"Wouldn't dream of it, Kaspbrak," Stan replies and grabs a tray off the bench.
*
The three boys carry up a tray each of the drinks, for the Losers, Mike and Boris. Richie gives Stan a wink and shoves him lightly into Boris, causing him to fall directly into Boris' lap. Stan gives a tight embarrassed smile at Boris before giving Richie the middle finger, to which, Richie responds with his own.
Mike watches from the sidelines, looking between both Richie, Stan & Boris. He nudges Michael, "Does that normally happen?" Mike asks.
"Hmm, no, Stan and Richie say one or two words to each other. Then just stare," Michael replies. "Richie smiling at Stan? That's not normal."
"When Richie tried to set Stan up with Greg, he smiled exactly ... " Bill trails off and looks directly to Stan, who, by the way. hasn't bothered to remove himself from Boris' lap. "Oh."
Even Ben and Bev notice the smile that Richie is giving Stan, whenever their eyes lock. Everyone in that damn room can see that Richie and Stan are best friends. Mike Wheeler thought that maybe Richie and Stan hated each other but that smile; that god damn smile ... It's living proof that Stan likes Richie's opinion. Because Richie and Stan are best friends.
Bev walks over to the three boys, leaving her boyfriend with Richie and Eddie. "You know, Stan told me that he needed to speak to Richie," Bev says.
"That makes no sense," Michael says. "Stan has never once asked for Richie's advice."
"Whenever Richie and I have our smoke sessions on Fridays, he tells me if Stan had spoken to him," Bev explains. "Not to mention, Richie goes to him before he comes to me."
"Wait, wait. Does that mean that Stan found out that Richie was gay before you did?" Bill asks. Bev nodded. "If you knew for a whole 5 months, Stan knew for what? 5, 6? Months?"
"8, actually." The boys' jaws drop; Stan had kept a secret for 8 months and said nothing?
It puzzles the Losers as to why the two-act like they hate each other when, in reality, they're the best of friends.
Mike is just listening in by this point when he starts to get a little bored - he's not going to lie. He decides to talk with the others on the opposite side of the room.
"How's it going, Mike?" Eddie asks.
"Good, good. This is the chaos that I miss," The Party's leader says. "It was before we met Jane and Maxine, it was just us boys."
"Chaotic as fuck?" Richie chimes in, Mike laughs and nods his head. "Say, Mikey, invite your friends up. We've got the room and I'm sure mom won't care. If not, we can chill at Mike's farm."
Mike shrugs and pulls his phone out from his pocket. He opens the Party's group chat inviting the Party up to Derry.
**** **** ****
A few hours later, the Losers, Boris and Mike all head down to the clubhouse. Showing the two newcomers the ropes. As per usual, Eddie and Richie sit in the hammock, just not head to toe like normal. More like sitting side-by-side, cuddling. "Say, Koromyslo, you and Edward? Yeah?" Boris pipes up. Richie ignores the question, only focusing on the unknown word that sounds a Russian translation of sorts.
"What's a 'koromyslo'?" Richie asks.
"Rocker," Boris says monotonously. "So you and Edward? Yes?" Stan giggles.
"You fucking snitch, Stan!" Richie yelps.
"I said nothing, you two are so obvious!" Stan laughs. "You always sit head to toe. Now you're cuddling?"
"You're insufferable," Richie mutters.
"He isn't denying it," Beverly says. "Did you two finally admit your feelings?"
Richie rolls his eyes and looks at Eddie, the boy beside him nods head slowly with caution. The Trashmouth cups Eddie's face in his hands and kisses him. He goes to lean down a little more, trying his best to get in a comfortable position but accidentally leans too much into Eddie. The hammock rocks dangerously and tips the two boys out.
Richie's glasses are just millimetres from falling off his face and are held up by Eddie's shoulder. Quickly fixing them, he looks up to see Eddie straddling him. "Well, I like this view," Richie says. Eddie groans in disgust.
Why? Goddammit, Richie! Eddie thinks to himself
"Come on guys! Leave this place for our innocent childhoods!" Ben groans.
Eddie pushes himself off Richie, dusting himself down before holding out his hand for Richie. "Damn, then I can't tell you ... eh, who am I kidding? I've jerked off to the thought of Eddie's mom down here," Richie says.
"BEEP BEEP RICHIE!" All 6 Losers groan and Eddie punches him in the arm.
"Why do I like you?" Eddie mutters.
Richie looks somewhat offended but knows that Eddie is 100% joking. The two reposition on the hammock and Richie leans over to grab a comic book. His backpack sits by the wooden post that's barely within arms reach. Bev watches on, silently hoping that the hammock tips over again; that would be priceless.
*
Mike and Boris watch the Losers Club sit around minding their own business. Richie and Eddie are reading a comic together, while Stan is bird watching, from a hole in the ceiling. Bev, Ben, Mike (Hanlon) and Bill are playing cards quietly by the swing.
The only sounds that can be heard are the rustling of pages turning; rope squeaking, as the hammock rocks gently; leaves rustling above them, and birds chirping.
Suddenly a buzzing noise interrupts the silence, every head in the underground bunker turns to Mike. He pulls his phone from his pocket.
"Hey, babe?" Mike answers.
"We'll be there in like a day. We're catching a flight now," Will says on the other side of the call.
"Okay, see you tomorrow, Will. Love you."
"Love you too."
Mike hangs up the phone. "What?" Everyone goes back to what they were doing, leaving Mike to his thoughts.
"It's 6 pm, guys," Bill says.
"Crap! Mom's not going to be happy! I'll be grounded for sure!" Eddie says.
"You're staying at mine, remember?" Richie says as he helps Eddie out of the hammock.
"Shoot, sorry, Rich."
"All good, Eds."
Mike follows but looks back to Boris, who's waiting patiently for Stan. The Wheeler boy sees something in his cousin's eye; a look that he's seen today and every day, for the past year. It's the look of love, no doubt about it. He climbs up the corroded aluminium ladder where Richie and Eddie are waiting. Mike feels a slight wind change and sees Eddie shiver. As if on intuition, his brother wraps his arms, tightly, around the hypochondriac. "Hurry, you two. Eddie will get hypothermia!" Mike calls.
"It's not that - " Stan emerges from the bunker and immediately gets hit with the wind change. "Never mind, it's a wee bit chilly."
Boris quickly hoists himself up and shrugs off his leather jacket, enveloping it around Stan's shoulders. The boy blushes ferociously, as he tugs the jacket's opening together, he leans into Boris for extra warmth.
As the 5 of them walk up to the streets of Derry, Mike feels like he's 5th wheeling, slowing down his pace to walk behind the couples - one couple; Richie breaks his awkwardness.
"I was thinking since your friends and boyfriend are coming tomorrow, what if we go on a camping trip? The 6 of us? The week before we're set to go to college?" Richie says.
"Hang on Rich, 6 of us?" Stan asks.
"Well, wouldn't want Boris to be 5th wheeling now, would we?" Richie replies, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"Yeah, but why me?" Stan states.
Richie simply points to the leather jacket that's enveloped around the blonde's shoulders. Stan reddens again, leaning into Boris to conceal his embarrassment, but that only makes it worse.
**** **** ****
The following day, Mike awaits the arrival of his friends. All but Dustin and Lucas were coming, due to last-minute college plans and family vacations, the two couldn't make it; but Max, Will and El are coming. The three of them are catching a taxi into town. "When were you friends supposed to get here?" Maggie asks Mike.
"9 am," Mike replies, still pacing impatiently. The clock on the wall reads '11 am', the Party is 2 hours late and Mike's starting to worry. "Maybe their flight's delayed."
Maggie nods, hugging her second son briefly before heading off to work, leaving Mike and Richie alone, in the kitchen. The Wheeler boy checks his phone again for the 10th time within the past 20 minutes, still no messages from his friends. Richie makes another cup of coffee for himself, putting himself in the way of Mike's pacing line.
"Check the Snapmap," Richie says, getting annoyed with his brother's pacing.
"I don't have snap chat, and neither do my friends," Mike replies.
Abruptly, a boy comes down the stairs in nothing but boxers, huffing out in annoyance. Boris could hear the two of them, all the way upstairs. He's usually a heavy sleeper so how the fuck is Eddie still asleep?
"What even is social media?" Boris replies groggily.
"Did you seriously just get up?" Mike ripostes.
"Yes, now quiet. I need my normal 4 cups of coffee before anyone talks to me," Boris says and grabs the pot of coffee, pouring it into a mug that he pulls from the cabinet above. Richie and Boris leave the kitchen to wake up elsewhere, allowing Mike to deal with his chaotic crisis.
*
Finally, 3 hours later, the Party shows up, "What the hell?" Mike says as he stands on the bottom-most stair. "Where have you guys been?!"
"Our taxi broke down, we had to walk all the way here. No reception." Will puffs out.
"Mike, who's at the - oh, hello," Richie says as he goes down the stairs. "I take it, you're Will." Will just about faints when he sees Richie and it doesn't help that Boris exits from the kitchen, causing poor Will to faint.
Richie yells for Eddie with his 2 fanny packs (that he no longer uses) but still has first aid supplies.
The feisty young lad comes bounding down the stairs with a cold and wet cloth. "Well, lay him down," Eddie says. "And Boris, Richie, mind if you leave the room? I don't want him to faint again." The trashmouth and the emo leave the room, while Eddie tends to Will.
"Richie wasn't kidding," Mike says.
"Yeah well, you pick up a few things when your mom makes you think you're sick when you not," Eddie retorts; he turns his head to look at the girls. "Hey, I'm Eddie, Mike's told us all about you."
"I'm El, and this is Max," the brunette says. "Who were those boys?"
"The one with the glasses is Richie, my boyfriend and Mike's brother. They had no idea that the other existed until yesterday." Eddie explains. "The other, dressed in black, is Boris, their cousin. He was adopted by a Russian family when his parents died. His story is super morbid."
Will stirs on the couch and Mike rushes to take Eddie's place beside Will, keeping the cool cloth on his head. "What happened?" Will asks.
"You fainted, guess my brother and cousin are a bit too much," Mike says. "You okay?"
Will nods and Mike leans down to peck his lips.
"Don't worry, I'll bring them out, just don't faint on me again," Mike says.
"Wouldn't dream of it," Will replies, the boy spots Eddie in his peripheral vision. "I'm Will Byers."
"Eddie Kaspbrak," Eddie replies and takes the cloth off Will's forehead.
Mike walks back out with Richie and Boris; the two boys behind him, scratch the backs of their heads nervously as they are introduced to each of the Party members. So as it turned out, Mike and El dated before Mike got with Will. It had taken El moving away with the Byers for Mike to realise that he wasn't in love with El, he was in love with Will. "I had spoken to El, about it," Mike says, "thankfully she was understanding."
"We were better off as friends anyway," El states.
It's awkward for a moment, and Richie thinks of a good icebreaker. "Shall we head down to the quarry?" Richie asks.
"Where Koromyslo?" Boris asks.
"You know where we were yesterday?" Boris and Mike nod, "It's a few yards further, it's where we like to go swimming."
"Ahem!" Eddie fake coughs.
"Sorry, most of us, like to go swimming. Eddie hates it because there are germs," Richie fixes. "But, babe, let me just say that there are germs everywhere you go, including a hospital."
Eddie rolls his eyes. "If we're going, we need swimwear," Eddie says. El and Max look at each other, "Shit, Richie maybe we should go and get Bev."
Richie whips his phone out and immediately starts texting the redhead and not even 2 minutes later, she's bursting into the Tozier residence.
"I heard two gals needed swimmers," Bev says. "Hello, I'm Beverly Marsh, the only girl in the group of 7 dirty annoying, chaotic boys."
"Piss off Marsh, I just wanted the swimmers. You're not coming," Richie spits, then starts laughing and as does Bev. "Sorry, she can be a bit of a handful sometimes. Ignore her, she's just happy that she has other females to talk to."
The redhead sticks her tongue out at the trashmouth, only to get a middle finger in return. "Well Bev, I'm Maxine, Max for short. And this is El," the other redhead says. "I think we're going to get along just fine." Bev leads them up the stairs, letting the 4 boys wonder what the fuck just happened.
"Girls." They all said simultaneously.
**** **** ****
As the lot of them finally made it to the quarry, they are aced with the massive cliff. "Is it safe to jump?" Max asks.
"We do it all the time," Richie says.
"Yeah, after Bev constantly shows us up," Eddie replies and on cue the redhead pushes past everyone, jumping straight into the murky green water below. Boris goes next, somersaulting into the water.
"Oh come on!" Richie cries and goes to do a run up.
"No! Don't you dare, that's dangerous"' Eddie says sternly, Richie gestures to Boris. "You're clumsy and idiotic; he's probably done a heap of practice. Do. Not. Do. It."
Taking his boyfriend's advice he just does a basic run and jump, landing feet first in the disgusting water below.
Since Eddie is left with the newcomers he links them up, standing in between El and Will, taking both their hands in his and guiding them forward. Mike spits out the shitty water that got into his mouth and as does Eddie.
Boris, Bev and Mike immediately start to splash each other and wrestle, in the water; while Richie sits on the sandbank to get to know the others a bit.
Max starts off, talking about how she beat Mike's highest score on an arcade game. It was the initial reason as to why she thought Mike hated her. ' 'MadMax' beat my high score '. Richie and her, got talking about skateboarding, he had always wanted to try it but never got around to it. "I'll show you, I taught El not too long ago and now she's a pro," Max says.
"Well, in that case, sign me up," Richie replies.
El's next. She had fled the orphanage when she was 12/13, she met Mike, Dustin and Lucas in the woods one rainy night while they were looking for Will. Richie starts to laugh as El said that Mike hid her in his basement for a solid few months without no one knowing besides Dustin and Lucas.
Before Will can say a word, Richie feels cold water on his now partially dry hair. "You're dead Marsh!" Richie bellows.
"It wasn't Marsh this time," Eddie teases.
"I don't care that I love you, you're going down Kaspbrak!"
Will, Max and El watch on as Richie and Eddie tackle each other, laughing.

relationship klance
we always talk about pre-relationship klance like what about the actual relationship ya feel
to start off they absolutely get together in the dorkiest way possible like its either 100% sappy or 100% embarrassing and by accident there is no in between
they did that fanfic corny scene where lance was about to confess and keith realized before he even finished his sentence and just goes for the smooch
except its terrible theres too much teeth and their noses crash into each other its just a mess
its also both their first kiss
even after they both confess its takes them like a week to get up the courage to ask each other out bc theyre both nerds
lance plans on trying to keep it small bc he thinks keith doesnt really want anything big and cheesy
keith plans on absolutely making it as cheesy as possible bc he thinks lance would prefer big and cheesy to small and ordinary
they literally plan to ask each other out on the same damn day
keith asks hunk to make lances favorite food for lunch and asks pidge to hook up the projector so they can watch an altean romcom they wont understand anyway but catch keith trying to take notes during the fluffy scenes
hunk and pidge tease them to hell and back but theyre really happy for them so they go through with his requests
lance and keith both keep looking at each other during the movie wondering if they’ll be like that at some point and blush throughout the whole damn thing
everyone else thinks its so so so fucking cheesy but oh my god hunk and shiro are so happy for them bc its been a long time coming
at dinner they sit extra close to each other and casually brush fingers. theyre obviously blushing throughout the whole thing
its just a week of blushing okay
lance gets so happy and smiles so wide when he realizes its his favorite food that keith just stares with a soft expression and when lance meets his eye they both blush but keith doesnt look away as fast as he used to bc he can have this
after dinner they walk to the map room to look at the stars bc its become their thing and lance has had Enough with the brushing hands so he offers keith his palm and keith fucking swoons when they interlock fingers
they both planned to ask each other out at the star deck so obviously both of their plans crash bc after a weird silence where theyre BOTH thinking hard and turning into blushing, fidgeting, and sweating messes they turn to each other with the same glint in their eye
they say it at the same time
lance and keith.jpg
and then they turn into giggling messes with fond looks bc if this isnt foreshadowing how amazing theyre relationship is gonna be than idk what is
ROMANCE ENSUETH
in the beginning theyre just really really really nervous still bc theyve both been pining for a long time and dont wanna mess this up
when they start out, lance initiates most of the physical contact first like hand holding, putting his arm around keiths shoulders, that sorta thing bc keith is so fucking nervous and was never good at expressing himself but he eventually initiates it to he loves seeing how happy lance looks when he does
theyre both flustered messes but keith is really bad
they dont kiss yet bc theyre practically walking nervous systems
they hold hands a lot tho lance has soft hands bc of his skin care routines so a lot of times keith will just idly play with lances fingers because it calms him
keith rubs his thumb on the back of lances hand and lance fucking dies every time
lance still makes fun of keiths hair but it dies down little by little bc hes always wanted to play in that dang mullet tbh
one day keith catches lance just intensely staring at his hair and before he can even ask whats up lance asks if he can do his hair
theyre both messes when lance gets behind and starts playing in keiths hair but eventually lance just gets distracted with it and keith finds it really soothing. moreso than he thought it’d be
it becomes a reoccurring thing. lance will run his hands through keiths hair and keith just loves it so much it feels so nice
it started on the couch in that lounge room they have but one time hunk walked in and keith was practically passed out with his head on lances lap and he felt so embarrassed bc it feels really intimate and they both would rather keep stuff like that in their rooms so they do
whenever they go to a planet keith tries to look for things he thinks lance would like. hes not good with words so he tries to express himself through other means
the first time keith gave lance a gift from a planet it was a cat plushie bc its pretty fucking obvious lance likes cats
its red
when keith gives it to him he stares at the ground and just like thrusts it out to him bc hes so nervous and lance takes it slowly, cautiously, and when hes stopped astral projecting into another plane of existence he kisses keith on the cheek bc he love love loooovvveess it
he names it keef and cuddles it all the time. keith always just stares like >:0 bc its really cute and he loves his boyfriend so much but also bc oh my god are we gonna cuddle like that someday omg lance is my boyfriend ohmy go d holl y s hi
he falls down the rabbit hole often
lance on the other hand loves bears and loves anything that he thinks could represent them like he’ll just point out two rocks side by side or some shit to hunk and be like “thats gonna be me and keith one day :) <3″ and hunk juts pats him on the back
DONT EVEN GET STARTED ON SEEING OTHER COUPLES IN PUBLIC
whenever theyre planet side and lance sees a romantic couple he squeezes keiths hand (bc theyre already holding hands they never stop) and gets this fond and hopeful look on his face
lance wants every planet they meet to know keith is his boyfriend (he never gets tired of saying it) so whenever theyre at diplomatic functions and they have to talk to the aliens, he’ll always bring it up somehow
it ranges from “so it must be difficult fighting this war” “yeah but having keith by my side helps” to “our planet welcomes you young paladin” “thanks and also heres my boyfriend keith the red paladin you know the right arm of voltron? that guy? yeah thats my boyfriend. my boyfriend is the red paladin his name is keith. we’re in a relationship. did you know that? its great im so happy omg this food is so good btw did i mention im dating keith and that keith is my boyfriend?”
lance still flirts sometimes but he never actually wants it to go anywhere. at first this makes keith a little disoriented and he mopes but then they talk and Communicate and lance says that he just likes to flatter people bc it makes them feel good and stuff and so they work it out. so lance still flirts but only a little and not as strongly as he used to
speaking of communication, in the beginning theyre talking fucking s u ck ed they’d misunderstand each other and it would result in sadness and venting to their respective besties but the third time they get shoved in a room and told to just “talk it out” they realized that they really need to be more open/clear about stuff
eventually they get really good at talking about things to each other. their problem wasnt that they wouldnt talk to each other it was that they just couldnt understand the other so they work on getting to know each other better and it really helps and works out so so great
they both have issues, lance with his self esteem and keith with his abandonment issues and they know that the other cant fix it bc thats not what its about but they definitely help.
unlike lance, keith knows who he is and is confident in his abilities so he tries to help him in that aspect
unlike keith lance has always been a people person and is family oriented so he tries to help keith slowly get overcome it
theyre both really good for each other. they cant “fix” each other obviously but they help one another out so much and it means a lot
they have their first kiss like two months after they got together
it was after a battle and no not a deadly one you heathens a really really awesome one the teams all smiles and lance pulled a cool move at the end when they formed voltron and they saved a planet and everyones soooo happy and when they get back to the castle lance bolts to keith and just spins him around in a hug smiling and laughing and they smooch
its the best thing theyve ever experienced
they dont stop kissing after that. catch them giving each other little pecks all the time
at this point they arent as nervous as when they first started
after long battles theyll just kinda fall into each other
they dont do it in public/in front of the team but they cuddle a l o t
keiths two favorite places are in the crooks of lances neck and on his chest to hear his heartbeat
lance likes to kiss keiths forehead bangs in the way or not if he thinks his man needs some smooches he’ll give him some fucking smooches
the first time they fall asleep together (i mean literally fall asleep not anything nasty pls dont sexualize these boys) locks in for both of them that This Is It ya know
theyre cuddling in lances room keith wearing his jacket and has his face smooshed against his chest lance is playing in keiths hair and his lips are lightly touching his forehead
its after a diplomatic meeting
theyre both really tired and keith thinks he should probably go back to his room but they both feel too comfortable and everything feels so nice so he doesnt
lance likes listening to keiths voice and vice versa so theyre literally just saying nonsense
theyre voices drift off into a comfortable silence and eventually they both fall asleep
keith wakes up first and hes confused but then he looks up at lance and how peaceful he looks when hes sleeping and just stares
lance wakes up a little while later and meets eyes with keith but then he notices keiths unruly bed hair and the small spot of drool by keiths mouth and almost cries
its the best sight either of them have ever seen and at the same time they both think to themselves that they wouldnt mind waking up like this for the rest of their lives
#this is so fucking long god im so sorry but i have FEELINGS OKAY#voltron#vld klance#Voltron legendary defender#lance#keith#babbles
