@bulleobulleo #it kills me how traumatized and empty jihun looks in the first one #like he's one of the few people who have close to nothing to do with the whole case to begin with #he's dragged into this by simply being jihwa's little brother and a good man who cares about his friends #and then in the span of like a couple of months he loses his crush gets suspected of her murder and then watches other people die around hi #while others are (not so) quietly going insane or revealed to be scumbags #it can't be good for the guy #and he didn't even ask for it by being an obnoxious nosy brat like juwon #the depth which even the supporting characters get in this fucking drama is insane

Other Jihun and Seungjae (and more) related stuff:
They're the ONLY ones with different looking t-shirts (green and black)
On the bus, Seungjae sits next to him and Yunsang, who is like... his closest friend.
The first thing Seungjae said to Jihun was to ask him if he wanted the last cigarette left in the box.
And the first thing Jihun did when he left the bully group was to quit smoking.
Jihun is the only one who tells Seungjae to Cut that shit Out when he threatens to shoot Myeongjun.
And Seungjae does listen to him.
Se-yeon, Seungjae and Jihun are the only three characters drawn with the exact same close-up shot, the one that appears right before they do something that will change the story or affect their enviroment in a big way. (For Seungjae was killing Chae-eun; for Jihun was it leaving the group, and for Se-yeon it was when she told the group of bullies to Fuck off Forever in the middle of the night)
When Myeongjun confronts Seungjae (when he was trying to manipulate Yura), Seungjae looks a bit intimidated by him: tense shoulders and a nervous look on his face. The art also seems to support this interpretation by giving Myeongjun a low-perspective pov.
But... when Jihun confronts him? Seungjae doesn't look nervous at all-- in fact, he glares at him. In that scene Jihun is drawn with damaged clothes and bags under his eyes from poor sleep; he looks like he's been going through some shit, to put it simply. The contrast is noticeable.
(class 1-9 spoilers)
why are there so many parallels and mirrors and stuff between Seungjae and Jihun what does it Mean. Why. i don't understand.... what's the objective of this....
There's the easy stuff like the earrings. We can theorize why Jihun put those on (he wanted to fit in?).
And then there's the interesting stuff: Jihun and Seungjae's make similar expressions, have some panels that mirror each other, and other stuff (more on that later).
And then there's the shit that makes you insane:
Their deaths are very similar:
They both have a panel where they're screaming-- with the exact same POV AND the exact SAME expression-- both right before dying.
They both get shot ON SAME SHOULDER
and then right after that HAVE PANELS THAT ARE OPPOSITE OF EACH OTHER-- IN COLOR.
INVERTED COLORS!!!
Their semi-final words are almost like they're talking to each other "I'm the only one getting outta here alive!"- "Nobody else is leaving this island"
Their death panels are extremely similar (multiple bullet wounds appearing on their bodies + white background + standing up)
Jihun's final panel is dark, while Seungjae's is white. Jihun looks almost peaceful, he dies quietly, and … the other one does not.
Okay this one is a reach but... Jihun is an air sign and Seungjae is a water sign. Jihun dies on water and Seungjae on land LIKE!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!
#seungjae kang#jihun an#class 1-9#se-yeon han#mannnnn oh man#DOES HE EVEN SEE HIM AS A FRIEND OR IS IT JUST LIKE. IS SEUNGJAE JUST USING HIM TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT HIMSELF.#UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH#btw 'fuck off forever' is a simplification. she fucking shoots at them lol

The theme of observer in Beyond Evil
One of the most important themes that runs through the whole drama, refracting from different angles, is the theme of the observer. Dongsik speaks about this explicitly already in the first episode. "Be careful. Someone is always watching."
There is always an observer. But who is it? This question seems to be blurry. Let's try to figure out who the observer is, and why such an emphasis is placed on this.
The observer theme implicitly arises even earlier, from the first frames. The whole drama begins with a scene in a reed field. We are shown Dongsik and Oh Jihun, but that Juwon is also involved in this scene, we only find out at the end of the episode. Why such mystery?
On the one hand, it highlights Juwon's role as an "unknown variable" that will become clearer at the end. On the other hand, this technique kind of puts us in Juwon's shoes, from the very beginning. We, the spectators, together with Juwon are strangers in this world. And Juwon tries very hard to be such an objective dispassionate witness, not bound by personal relationships and prejudices. But his personal bias towards Dongsik turns out to be stronger than Dongsik's prejudice towards people he has known for twenty years.
So, through bitter experience, he learns that objectivity is possible only when you are fully aware of your subjectivity. You can't take emotion out of the equation when trying to find justice.
In the drama, much attention is paid to the theme of the responsibility of the witness. I like the phrase from the drama "Kill me, heal me": "For something truly monstrous to happen, three are needed: the aggressor, the victim and the witness."
The silent witness usually does not recognize themself as an accomplice to evil, but without them it would be impossible. And the little silence of everyone adds up to a very big tragedy for the entire city.
My friend noticed one point. In the scene between Juwon and his father, Juwon says, "Someone might think I killed her," even though they are alone in the room. So who else would think so - besides the viewer?
And in the drama there are many such moments that delicately and unobtrusively, make the viewer a participant in the events - as a witness. Every real drama becomes a story one day. And the audience - judges.
There is another observer who is always with you - this is your own conscience.
“Even if no one knows - I know, and I remember,” says Juwon.
Even if a person tries to oust his mistakes from consciousness and memory, there is some part of him, his inner basement (or temple?) which keeps the chronicle of all his deeds. And the pain inevitably returns - with ghostly images of deer or panic attacks.
Is there a higher observer than conscience?
The feeling of the presence of some higher observer appears in the drama from time to time - already from the first episode. When Juwon first finds himself in the reed field, the whole scene is filmed in such a way that it seems as if an unknown invisible force is watching him from above.
This story begins with a church. But then things happen that are incompatible with the idea of the highest justice. Justice for Dongsik is like a marble angel next to severed fingers.
Cold indifferent silent witness to inhuman evil.
Why does Dongsik leave these statues in his garden, which hold such terrible memories? This is the question that Juwon asks at one point. As a reminder? Or as a challenge - either to society, or to heaven itself?
Dongsik looks up many times throughout the drama. Not with a plea, but rather with a reproachful question.
But then a stone-faced young man appears in Dongsik's life. And tears appear on this face - for him, for Dongsik.
In the turning scene, the image of a fallen angel in the rain and the image of Juwon are intertwined. As if the universe itself cast off its indifferent mask.
Whether there is the highest justice or not, everyone who suffers can find deep sympathy, and this is probably the main justification for the world.
The whole detective story begins with the theme of the missing women. And the theme of disappearance runs like a red thread throughout the drama. People, evidence, memories and feelings disappear here. But nothing can disappear without a trace as long as there is an observer.
An interested, sympathetic, loving look is able to pull the whole human soul out of non-existence.
Juwon and Dongsik's mutual gazes always have this intensity and power - to bring out the essential, not to let each other disappear.
And no matter how different love could be, it is always based on the ability (and desire) to witness each other's life.

Road to 4☆TOWN
part 21 | part 22
Warning: strong language
Aaron Z opened the door to a frowning Taeyoung in confusion. “Uhhh, babe?”
“Hmmm?” T approached the door. He noticed Taeyoung. “Oh, right. I forgot to mention that Taeyoung always sleeps over on his birthday. Sorry, I’m used to that being common knowledge.” He shrugged awkwardly.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t rather be home with your parents, Tae?” Z looked back at him. “I mean, it’s Valentine’s Day. We were gonna—”
T covered his mouth. “His parents have a date night every year. If he goes home, he’ll be there alone.”
Z was quiet. “Oh. Well. That’s kinda messed up.”
“Tell me about it.” Taeyoung rolled his eyes. “Not like they could ever take one second to pretend like they give a shit about me…” He grumbled as he plopped onto the couch.
T and Z stared at him with wide eyes.
“You know what? I just remembered I have a…a thing I had to go do real quick.” Z backed out of the doorway. “I’ll be back later when the beast has been tamed.”
“Yeah, that would be best.” T nodded and shut the door behind him. He joined Taeyoung on the couch. “You wanna tell me what’s on your mind, Tae-Tae?”
“I’m fine, Aaron.” Taeyoung refused to look at him. “Quit trying to baby me.”
“I’m not babying you, I just wanna know what’s wrong.” Aaron scooted closer. “This isn’t the first time you’ve been like this lately. Ever since the tour you’ve been acting strange. I just want to help.”
“It’s nothing you can help with.” Taeyoung crossed his arms. “It’s not like you’ve had this problem before, what with your perfect, devoted mom and all.”
“What’s going on with your parents?” Aaron furrowed his brow. “This all revolves around them, I wanna know what’s up. Is it your mom? Is she pushing you to find a girlfriend again?”
“Please just stop.” Taeyoung sighed. “I don’t want to talk about this right now.”
“Then when?” Aaron narrowed his eyes. “This has been going on for a few months, you can’t keep putting it off. Just tell me what’s bothering you.”
Taeyoung kept his mouth shut.
“So it’s about Jihun. That’s the same face you made when he missed your eighth grade graduation.” Aaron deduced. “I should’ve known. All the years we’ve been friends and I hardly see you guys interact.” He shook his head. “This is exactly why we wanted to get you into therapy. I mean, I know how your parents feel about it, but at this point—”
“Oh my god, shut up!” Taeyoung yelled as he stood up. “Stop trying to fix me because for once you can’t. You can’t save me from every bad feeling I have so just leave it alone!”
“I’m not trying to fix or save you. I just want to help.” Aaron tried to calm him down. “I know it might seem—”
“How could you possibly know?” Taeyoung tried to walk away. “You have no idea what’s going on or what this feels like.”
“Well I would if you just told me.” Aaron followed him. “I get it if you don’t wanna talk to me, but I’m sure if you sat down with your parents—”
“Fuck off, Aaron!” Taeyoung yelled. “I don’t need family advice from someone whose dad never bothered to show up after his mom got knocked up at eighteen.”
“T-Taeyoung…?” Aaron looked him up and down.
Taeyoung’s eyes widened as he realized what he just said. “Wait, no, I didn’t mean that. Please don’t—” Aaron stepped back when Taeyoung reached out to him. “No, no, no. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that. I’m sorry, I’m really sorry.” He fell to his knees in tears.
Aaron stared at him for a moment before sighing. “This is exactly why you’re not supposed to bottle up all your feelings, Tae.” He knelt beside Taeyoung. “You need to tell me when something’s wrong.”
“Please tell me you forgive me.” Taeyoung shook his head. “I didn’t mean what I said. I’m just so frustrated with my parents, I wasn’t supposed to take it out on you. I’m sorry, please don’t hate me. I don’t wanna be alone again.”
“Oh, Taeyoung, I could never hate you.” Aaron wrapped an arm around him. “You’re my brother and I love you. Even when you’re clingy, even when you’re crying, and even when you say hurtful things I know you don’t mean.”
Taeyoung was quiet for a moment before wrapping his arms around Aaron and leaning his head on his chest. “I didn’t want it to come to this.” He said between cries. “I haven’t cried in front of you since we were little, I didn’t want to be that burden again.”
“You’re never a burden.” Aaron said firmly. “But you have to talk to me when you start to feel bad or else you just might shatter beyond repair.” He paused. “It’s not too late, is it? To put the pieces back together?”
Taeyoung shook his head. “It’s never too late for you. You’re the only one that can.” He hesitated. “Why do my mom’s hugs never compare to yours?”
“Well, I do have longer arms.” Aaron chuckled a bit. “And my body heat makes it like hugging a warm but firm marshmallow.”
“It’s not just that. I never feel this safe with anyone.” Taeyoung said quietly. “I feel more at home with the band and with your family than I do with my own parents. And my dad…” He sniffled. “Why doesn’t he ever pay attention to me? It’s like he doesn’t even care. When we got back from the tour, he looked so disappointed that I was home I just…I—” he started to cry again.
“Awww, Taeyoung. That sounds…really messed up, wow.” Aaron consoled him. “How did you carry that around all this time?”
“I couldn’t take it if my stupid clinginess drove you away.” Taeyoung let a few more sobs out. “I go to you for everything, I figured I must be weighing you down at this point. ”
“Taeyoung, listen to me.” Aaron looked at him. “You can lean on me for anything you need, I’ll always be there.”
Taeyoung fell silent. “Thank you, Aaron.” He hugged him tighter. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Don’t worry, you’ll never need to know.” Aaron answered softly. “I’m gonna be right by your side no matter what.”
