Meta-Interview 2: The Blue Blur
This time, the interview is taking place in the room it’s meant to be. Sophia fiddles with the tripod camera, before heading back to her seat. A canvas chair with INTERVIEWER on the back that she shifts uncomfortably in. Sonic is sitting across from her in another canvas chair, his right leg in a cast. His crutches lean against the chair, but despite his injury, he seems to be doing okay.
Sophia: “Again, I am really, truly, sorry about-”
Sonic raises his hand.
Sonic: “Hey, don’t worry about it. It’s not your fault!” Sophia: “No, but I could have kept you in the actual competition.” Sonic: “I don’t mind sitting on the sidelines this time around. Hard to show off my sonic speed with a busted leg, anyway.”
Sophia: “I suppose.”
Sophia pulls out a clipboard from behind her, flipping through the papers on it.
Sophia: “Right, you should give better answers than Random. What makes you think you are fit for the role of interviewer, over the competition?”
Sonic scratches his nose and smirks.
Sonic: “Well, the others are cool, besides that Char dude, but they just aren’t way past cool like this guy.”
He points at himself.
Sonic: “Of course, I can’t go fast right now, but I don’t need my legs to talk! And it wasn’t just blast processing that got all my games selling, y’know.” Sophia: “It was your stand-out personality, yes?”
Sonic: “Yeah!”
Sophia: “I s-suppose that’s a good thing for an interviewer to have.”
Sophia clears her throat, and flips through the papers in her lap again.
Sophia: “Speaking of the other bonuses, what are your thoughts on them? You’ve all had plenty of time to get to know each other…”
Sonic: “Random just says, well, random stuff, right? I don’t get it.”
Sophia: “It was, well, the first invitation I sent out. I had to make sure the others would receive theirs properly.”
Sonic: “Don’t trust the postal service?”
Sophia’s gaze drifts back to the clipboard.
Sophia: “You could say that. A-Anyway, the others?”
Sonic: “The Char guy’s robot may be three times faster than the others, but there’s no way he can outspeed me. He’s also just kind of a jerk!”
Sophia: “I would have to agree.”
Sonic: “Why’d you invite him, then?”
Sophia: “To be frank, I had considered him to help with security. His sources are a good enough reason to not send him home.”
Sonic: “Whatever you say.”
Sophia: “And how about the others?”
Sonic: “Oh, Scratch is a cool dude. I like his style! Me and him have similar vibes, y’know?” Sophia: “I… do.” Sonic: “The Furby reminds me of Omochao. She’s alright! Can get kind of freaky though.
And that Wayne dude? I mean, he’s funny, but man, he needs to chill out a bit. He knows Miku, though, so he’s cool in my book.”
Sophia looks surprised.
Sophia: “You… know Hatsune Miku, then?”
Sonic: “Yeah! Me, her, and the other Sega mascots have a monthly get-together. Haven’t been for a while cuz of, well, the tournament.”
Sophia flips to the next page, which has a list of Sonic’s sources.
Sophia: “Speaking of the tournament, I’m sure the audience is wondering; why Ska?”
Sonic: “Why Ska? What d’you mean?”
Sophia: “Why you added it to your sources.” Sonic: “Oh, well! Been getting really into it since you invited me here, actually. Something about the peppy, upbeat rhythm leaves me feeling like I’ve just been going for a run, and since…”
Sonic waves his cast around.
Sonic: “Well, that, I’ve sort of been needing something to give me that same feeling.”
Sophia: “I suppose. Didn’t you break your leg in-” Sonic: “A skanking accident, yeah.”
Sophia: “Do you mind explaining?” Sonic: “It’s a bit embarrassing.”
Sophia: “Alright then. I won’t push you any further.”
Sonic sighs dramatically, and waves a finger at her.
Sonic: “See, you’re doing a pretty good job with these interviews, but you aren’t gonna get anything juicy out of anyone if you don’t push on stuff like that.” Sophia: “Are you sure? I’d rather no one harbor a grudge over something like an interview.” Sonic: “Well, obviously don’t go for personal stuff, but embarrassing stories are what make an interview fun!” Sophia: “Would you mind telling the skanking story, then?”
Sonic shrugs, smirking.
Sonic: “Some other time! You were too slow!”
Sophia chuckles, covering her mouth with her hand.
Sophia: “Last question for now. Do you have any thoughts on any of the actual contestants?”
Sonic: “Well, I’ve met the Spy before, wish there was a track around here so we could race again. In cars, obviously. His teammates are wacky, they remind me of Eggman’s goons. Orbot and Cubot.
Those two animal chicks, Pix and Bit, they’re cool. I think Pix could almost keep up with me if she tried!”
Sophia: “They’re similar to a lot of derivatives you had, aren’t they?” Sonic: “Yeah, but as long as they aren’t straight up rip-offs, there’s nothing wrong with inspiring someone else, y’know?
Hey, speaking of copies, where does that weird Pikachu keep getting his drinks? I’m worried about him.”
Sophia: “I don’t know. Truthfully, I don’t think I could keep him away from alcohol even if I tried.”
Sonic: “That’s pirates for you, I guess.”
Sophia: “Do you have any final comments for the audience?”
Sonic turns to the camera directly, giving a wave and a cheeky grin.
Sonic: “These interviews have been coming out pretty slow, right? Y’know who’ll do ‘em faster? The fastest hedgehog alive! So vote for Sonic the Hedgehog!”
Sophia laughs again, a little awkwardly.
Sophia: “Well, I hope I can catch up with you eventually.”
